A few years ago I was on a subway train pulling into Harvard Square. The only other passenger was a nicely dressed, professional looking black man. As the train pulled in, I noticed that he was visibly upset, grumbling cussing under his breath.

Being friendly, I asked, "What's wrong?"

The fact is this, both sides approach this subject with a very different set of expectations that have so far proved to be permanently skewed. For starters, Conservative (predominantly White) America sees the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution as magnificent documents as written. If you're Black, how can you accept both documents when one was written "all men are created equal" while slavery existed and then the Constitution declares Black Slaves as 3/5 of a White citizen for purposes of the Census and Congressional districting. I myself see a Constitution capable of change through the amendment and legislative process where others use the Courts to effect immediate change. These are just the opening salvos in this debate and in the current state of affaire, there's no common ground any one wishes to give.

There is great danger here. For them. Once they notice that we are not holding them back their message becomes "We can't keep up" instead of "You are holding us back"

I don't think most white people generally think about race, and it wouldn't be as big a problem if the black community didn't shout "Racist!" every time someone says the slightest negative thing about them.

Think about what has happened to the Black Culture and Community as the Government has done more and more to "Help."
The once bright and creative culture that gave us jazz, Gospel, Soul, and R&B has devolved into a celebration of "thugs and Hos"
The "Great Society" that was going to give black people "Temporary Housing" to "start a life'' back in the 1960s, well their still there and we call those areas the "ghetto" and "projects"
The schools are no longer segregated, but with the diffrence in the drop out rate they might as well be.
Before government "help,'' Black leaders such as MLK spoke of equality, they knew that if given an equal chance, black people could do anything white people could.
Now people like Jessee Jackson tell the black community that they are "Victims" and that they will never make it out of victimhood without the Government's help.

I haven't read your other postings. I don't think the above posting was about "black culture," not really. It's about a stereotype. Not all black people live in abject poverty and are dependent on public funds, and certainly not all people who are dependent on public funds are black! The last 50 years has seen a lot progress for all people. Certainly there are still problems and issues to overcome: a bad educational system, the rise in single parenthood, and drug use and criminality are problems of the poor, not exclusively of black people.

Thanks for the invite. I have to tell you, the tea party does not seem like a very welcoming place for black people, and many of the proponents and spokespeople do not seem to be interested in having black people join the tea party. You know what's most curious to me is that the topic of Race hasn't "exploded" in some time. Rodney King may have been the last time. If my memory is correct, that was like 20 years ago. Children have grown up during those 20 years without race being such a big issue. Was it on the news sometimes, yes. But not like it is now. I wonder if this is happening to "educate" those who have never dealt with a race issue, that there is a "problem" with racism.

HATE CRIME STORY WE SHOULD TALK ABOUT:
A young black couple were robbed and kidnapped by three white men with bad criminal records. Spewing racial epithets, over the course of the next 3 days they were both gang raped, tortured, and sexually mutilated and many other manners of unspeakable things were done to them. The young black man was killed and his body torched with gasoline. The young black woman was made to drink bleach before she was killed and her body was chopped up and put in a garbage bag. At the trial it was an outrage there were no hate crimes invoked at all.

REST OF THE STORY:
As you probably guessed by now, the young victims weren't black at all. They were white and the perpetrators were black. It happened in KY in 2007 (?) and it never made the MSM because crimes against white people don't count and the black perpetrators are still made out to be the victims. I think I know how feels to be treated like a second class race in society.

DOJ statistics: Black on white violent crimes are 400% higher than the other way around, but there are virtually no hate crimes prosecuted in those cases.

There are 30,000+ black on white rapes every single year. Which is about 90-100 per day (out of total 120,000+ total rapes/yr).

Your'e exactly right! The Arab/African slave trade is thousands of years old — and the didn't give it up until the last few years. Still goes on.

Weren't some of those on JournoList saying, call Karl Rove or Fred Barnes or anyone else they could think of "Racists." It didn't matter who they were calling "Racists" just so conservatives were tarred with the label. Yeah! It was the "pure white as driven snow" JournoList who want to brand everyone "Racist." I'm about as white as they come, except for a few freckles. I wonder if it would be alright to call myself Scandanavian-American even though I was born right here in the good old USof A ? Besides, I'm not salty enough to be a "Cracker."

Yeah, I knew a couple of black people personally. I spent some time in the hospital not too long ago and I can tell you the best treatment I got was from a couple of black male nurses. And they spent a lot of their spare time in my room laughing and talking.

You see, not all white people are racist. And not all black people look at us as though we are.
