But I do know one thing – If my son wanted to join the army and fight the enemy of the state, I’ll say one thing – son, don’t be a sucker in life. American reporter steeped I’m sure in military training and strategic thought, declares the war is lost.Where have we heard that before. By the way this reporter sounds like a limey or worse a relocated Aussie looking for a cause. Americans don’t like defeatist and I certainly do not like journalists that give aid and comfort to our enemies,and demoralize our armed forces.

We can’t win using the strategy we are being forced to use at the current time. But if we were to employ the strategy that won WWII for us we most certainly could and would win, and it would limit the loss of American and coalition lives drastically.
In other words, we should carpet bomb Afghanistan until those mountains this communist report mentions are no longer a factor, make the country flatter than Kansas, and make it know that the same lies in store for any other rag head brownie that dares attack us again.
Until then we are wasting our time fighting a war where the goal is not to win.

Once again, the US mass media has missed the point. In a way, he is correct, as long as we continue to attempt a military victory with political leadership, we will not complete the mission. Bob the military historian conveniently leaves out the fact that the Taliban was quickly dispatched to the hills by a handful of special forces and Afghan warlords. They are now little more than a gang whose best weapon is planting roadside bombs. They are unsafe even while cowering in their mountain hidouts. I haven’t heard the whole interview but based on what he said above, there is ’some’ truth in it. I firmly believe that you cannot with the war if you do not first shore up the borders. As long as you’ve got safe havens in Pakistan (and Iran), then you could put 1-million troops in country and it’s not going to solve it. To win, we’ve got to convince the Pakistanis to forget about Kashmir (a big if) where they’re butted up against Indian troops, so they can redirect them to the Pashtun regions. I know we’re not going to get any help from Iran but that’s why we need to push out to the peripheries. Then, once we have a stable environment, we can win this damned war. We failed in Vietnam for many reasons (media included). The main reason in my opinion was because we failed to turn Vietnam into an island. So long as you have VC riding bikes along the Ho Chi Minh trail or ships parked in the Haiphong Harbor, it doens’t matter how many factories you bomb, it’s not going to win the war. You can carpet bomb Afghanistan and “bomb them back to the stone ages” but that won’t work either. You’ve got to seal up the borders FIRST. Next step is to use more SOF to train up the locals to assist. Kinda tough to do when they keep getting the outside influence from across the Paki border. We can win this war, but not with the current restraints. If we can’t get Pakistan to do their part, then we’re going to need another surge to bolster those borders. My two cents.

Sarge, Steve, & Bill have it right. The only thing these camel-donkey humpin’ fanatics understand in overwhelming firepower…includes those that give them shelter & media propaganda support (CNN, NBC, CBS, BBC, MSNBC, etc.). The Japs learned this the hard way also.
