Church of Scientology Releases Five Videos of Volunteers Heading to Haiti

AFP: Clad in yellow T-shirts emblazoned with the logo of the controversial US-based group, smiling volunteers fan out among the injured lying under makeshift shelters in the courtyard of Port-au-Prince's General Hospital.

Oppertunistic Scumbags.

Why are you giving free advertising to this cult?

Anyone reading this story or watching the vids, do some internet searches on what Volunteer Ministers do in tragic situations. They never make a move without making sure it is filmed and photographed in an attempt to improve their image. The people going may have good intentions, but the cult is only seeing PR help.

They make sure they provide some help to not look totally callous and useless, but they also provide their propaganda to people who need anything but the words of L Ron Hubbard.

But they also hurt. After 9/11, they tried to convince ground zero workers that their purification program would heal them form their exposure to toxins. They also tried to prevent people seeking mental health care from getting to speak to counselors at the scene as scientology thinks psychiatry and psychology are evil.
And after Katrina, they were trying to prevent Dr’s from providing medications that they disagreed with. The Dr’s eventually had to have security forces move scientology and their tents away from the physicians.

IDIOTS! ALL OF THEM!   January 24th, 2010 - 4:02 pm

WHY ARE THEY GOING? THEY ‘DON’T WANT ANYBODY TO GET ‘MEDICAL ATTENTION’ – THEY JUST WAIVE THEIR MAGIC WAND, AND VWAALLAA!!! HEALED! MAGIC! OH, WAIT A MINUTE, THAT’S VOODOO, RIGHT??

Yes, it’s just a PR scheme. Scientology
is a world wide money collecting cult
that should be banned from the face of the earth.
Google “Lisa McPherson” and see how they killed
her. http://www.lisamcpherson.org/
Scientology…Bad Bad Bad.
Devon and Pam Ellis are both correct.

I am not a Scientologist, lets be clear about that.

These SCIENTOLOGY groups are bringing 167 medical doctors to Haiti and will support the effort long after others have left the scene. That is very significant.

I am offended by those who degrade the effort.

Scientology and its members should be thanked for this effort regardless of how you view their belief system.

Thank You Scientology, even if you are quirky and seen as a cult, your efforts will save lives. Good for you.

For you idiots who suppress this effort, go pound sand.

Yeah, I was a scientologist for 29 years and the organization never, not once donated any money of it’s own for any charity. They get their deluded members to pay for everything. PR is the most important thing to scientology, second is money. Why do you think the shirts are a bright yellow, so they stand out for photo ops.

These guys rock! You should see what they are actually doing.

Thank you helldigger, I honestly cannot believe the cynicism of some people, creating negative controversy even over something as trivial as the color of the volunteer ministers’ shirts. I have read articles about their active involvement in Haiti, so as with many other faith-based organizations. I give anything but kudos and praises for their hardwork, same with other nonprofit groups who are sacrificing both time and money to extend a hand to Haiti. I think instead of digging up dirt where there is none, and sparking controversy over something inherently positive, we can find out what we can do to help. All the naysayers, what have you done to help with the crisis? I am not a scientologist either, but gladly support Haiti efforts of all people, regardless of religious affiliation.

DiamondStar, Helldigger, I’m afraid a little scepticism is in order in this case. Mind you, the VM people on the ground in Haiti have the best intentions at heart. But you should also know that internal promotional e-mails are routinely sent to ex-members who post them anonymously on the internet. I read those, so perhaps I am better aware of why Scientology is sending these people over than you do. And what these e-mails contain is an utterly cynical call to buy Scientology books (at full price, which means a whopping mark-up which goes into the cult’s coffers) and donate them to the poor Haitians.

Like I said, the folks who go to Haiti (bless them) do honestly think they help. Just like crazy Cruise said, they are the only ones that can help in the case of a car accident. But handing out Scientology books, I’m afraid currently isn’t what the Haitians need. In fact, it is eating up a valuable timeslot at the airport and further stressing the capacity to properly organize the relief effort.

Haiti really would be better off without the Scientologists doing their PR stunt.
