Carter’s ineptitude created the situation we have in Iran. A little support of the Shah back in the 70’s could have averted the downward evolution of what could be a great country and ally. For those that had issues with the Shah, how are things in Iran now for g@.ys, women, Christians, and anyone who has a slightly contrary voice to the government?
Actually, H2K, it was our meddling in Iran that started this whole mess in the first place (I know…blame America first…blah, blah, blah). WE were instrumental in overthrowing a DEMOCRATICALLY elected government that allowed this autocratic dictator and thug (the Shah) to take power. We then propped him up and kept him in power while he brutally suppressed his people. He never should have been there in the first place and the fact that the Mullahs took over in a coup falls directly on our failed foreign policy. If he wasn’t there then there was no reason for a coup and this all would have been avoided.
