"Bell's city manager, police chief and assistant city manager all resigned last week after it was revealed they were making salaries totaling $1.6 million a year," it was quoted in the story. That's unfathomable when you stop and think about it. Many of the council members had approved salaries for themselves of over $100,000 per year for part-time work.

This is a town of 40,000 people who are…finally….awake and paying attention.

Oh how I hope you are correct but will not hold my breath.

I would love to see a better future for our county and when that future comes (big if) I would love to know it was because of what we are seeing in the city of Bell. I would also love to see voters more engaged so this doesn't happen again. I have my doubts but will hope.

I truly hope the City of Bell is the breaking point when it comes to anger against politicians. Disgusting.

Also disgusting is our choice for governor in CA. Brown, who was way ahead of the City of Bell creating a similar government pay structure in Oakland and Meg, who is leader of the RINO's. Yikes.

I remember reading something last week, that this town had a surplus of maybe $2 million. If this is such a poor town, I have to wonder how come this town has this much money. Is this our taxpayer dollars? Stimulus or tarp money? As a hard-working taxpayer, I would really like to know.

I know that they cities with high poverty rates used to get money/rewards for not educating the population. Is this still the case?

I thought liberals had the opinion that "enough" was "never enough". The union auto workers were paid $90 to install windshields and will have a pension and lifetime healthcare. That's not enough.
The educational budget per student in New jersey, California, and New York is $25,000 per year – much more than the most expensive private schools. That's not enough.
Teachers get tenure after a couple of years, can retire early,and have a lifetime of benefits. That's not enough.
Federal employees can retire at 50 and have ever increasing pensions and low cost healthcare. That's not enough.
So a city manager gets $800,000 working 28 weeks a year. I suppose "that's bad".

I hear a lot of people criticizing CA for their out-of-control government spending. I'm with you on that because its one of the reasons I left CA, but we allowed all this mess to grow throughout our government for decades. We allowed the liberal media to tell us what we should believe (global warming) and how we should think and feel about someone running for president (Obama) and people went along without question because of guilt, adoration, admiration, love, etc. Why?

Because people are lazy, too busy or don't care enough to keep up with the news or to keep up with what their politicians are voting on. So people gave in and left it up to Hollywood and the East Coast Media Elite (ECME) to tell them how to think and feel. What people need to realize is — Hollywood and the ECME know how to manipulate their audience to feel or think. It's what they're good at.

A word to all progressives, this is what is going to be coming your way times 100 in city halls all over America. And you all have Obama to thank!

Next time your community will show up at these meetings and see what is going on and Vote….your town is a good example of what has gone on in America with the democrats.

You are going to have to clean the school unions out of the districts first in order to teach proper government to the kids. School unions are a HUGE problem for taxpayers and parents.

They let him out on his promise he'd continue taking his prozac in a timely manner. Obviously he isn't living up to his end of the bargain.
