Changing His Tune: Super Majority-Less Obama Wants to Televise Health Talks

Watch CBS News Videos Online

Politico: President Barack Obama is planning to host a televised meeting with Republican and Democratic congressional leaders on health care reform. The Feb. 25 meeting is an attempt to reach across the aisle but not a signal that the president plans to start over, as Republicans have demanded, a White House official said. “I want to come back [after the Presidents Day congressional recess] and have a large meeting — Republicans and Democrats — to go through, systematically, all the best ideas that are out there and move it forward,” Obama said in an interview with Katie Couric during CBS’s Super Bowl pre-game show Sunday.

One thing comes to my mind is the old adage, “If you find yourself deep in a hole, the first thing you do is stop digging”. Keep digging, “O”.

brian   February 7th, 2010 - 10:06 pm

I think this is the only way to get the health care bill to pass. Health care is needed but not the closed doors and schemes that have been happening. The talks need to be open.

AMSEN   February 7th, 2010 - 10:58 pm

Who watched this dude. As soon as it was announced that he was going to horn in on the Super Bowl…I made sure I turned on the TV at 6:35 pm not a minute before!

Maybe Palin can show up with talking points written on her hands…BWAHAHAHA!!!

Dave, Tn   February 8th, 2010 - 12:03 am

They should tell him “They WON” the battle last year and they don’t want the people who created the mess (him and the democraps) to do a lot of talking. Just shut up. If someone can find a day last year this doublespeak doublethink liar wasn’t on TV it should be declared a new national holiday and called No President’s Day.

Snailmailtrucker   February 8th, 2010 - 12:04 am

That sounds like a great idea “truth”

Then we will be guaranteed that someone will be making sense.

Nearly 3,000 pages of e-mails that Todd Palin exchanged with state officials, which were released to msnbc.com and NBC News by the state of Alaska under its public records law, draw a picture of a Palin administration where the governor’s husband got involved in a judicial appointment, monitored contract negotiations with public employee unions, received background checks on a corporate CEO, added his approval or disapproval to state board appointments and passed financial information marked “confidential” from his oil company employer to a state attorney.

So will Todd be her VP?

It is all smoke and mirrors and I hold little hope that the Repubs are bright enough to figure it out. I’d tell them all to go pound sand. No health care bill this year.

Couric, Stalin's useful idiot   February 8th, 2010 - 12:28 am

Any interview of a Democrat by Couric can be written off as a waste of your time and airtime. She’ll NEVER ask tough questions of Progressive Marxists because she IS one. And if she interviews a Republican, her questions are so stupid, she makes herself look stupid. She is just a loser of a journalist & boring as he!!.

And what is up with that goofy look on his face in the beginning?

ChuckyCheese1   February 8th, 2010 - 12:37 am

If you’re n the mood for a laugh, read the comments by “gmh6419″‘ on a story at the beginning of last week, including this gem:

“The Senate version of the Health Care Bill will be on OUR president’s desk for his signature tomorrow /.. This should be a reason to declare a national holiday. YES”… It doesn’t matter what your opinion is or isn’t. The bill will pass this coming week and you WILL contribute to it. Many will be added to the health insurance roles. This president willl be recognized by future historians as one of THE strongest and best this nation has had. YES”

Army of Davids   February 8th, 2010 - 12:45 am

This garbage legislation needs to die.

The good thing is that it does a little everyday.

In the end the people will win this one. Not the politicians.

Snailmailtrucker   February 8th, 2010 - 1:00 am

The main difference in the 2 parties is, that the Democrat Party is filled with liberals, and they will all lie if given the slightest reason, and their civilian supporters will do exactly the same…they will lie in a second to further their cause even if they don’t know what they are lying about.

The Republican Party only has a few Conservatives… but a lot of the Republicans politicians will lie if they need to, but the conservatives are more reluctant to lie, and will usually try to do what is right before reverting to lies.
Now the Republican supporters will resist lying if they can, and the conservative supporters will not agree to lying to get their own way in almost every circumstance.

Big difference in the class of people and the politicians that they support.

Democrats and their supporters are prone to lying in a second, if the need arises, so that they can get their agenda pushed off on the country whether the people want it or not.

Republicans and their supporters are more likely not to lie, and to try to do what is right for the country.

Their are always exceptions to these examples, but this is usually they way it works.

Gandhi's Fist   February 8th, 2010 - 1:12 am

Let the backpedaling begin! Too late Obama, you’ve revealed yourself as a quasi-Marxist/socialist and are attempting to pull the nation so hard left the country got whip-lash. Nothing you can do now will prevent you from being a one term wound on American history. It is up to the Republicans to lose this race–which they’ll do if they run another McCain. If they run an actual conservative, the dems will be down and out for another decade.

Thor   February 8th, 2010 - 1:18 am

Hey President Obama, got your answer right here. Go to hell.

ERICR   February 8th, 2010 - 1:24 am

“Wants”? NO, what he [wanted] was to impose his political will on the American people. Now, by suggesting that the talks be put on CSPAN, he is, again, trying to BS the American people into thinking he’s interested in what they think, or that he isn’t trying to take the health care system over in a coup. It’s another one of his lies, and I hope the American people don’t fall for it again. Once, in 2008, was enough.

Oh good. Obama’s on TV again. Lovely blouse. My guess is that a condition of televising the healthcare scheming is that he’ll have to be front and center, teleprompters and all.

Going to have to go with the count-of, Zero days Maobummercorn hasn’t been on the TV since being sworn-in(twice) to office.

Heard somewhere last week, The White House has his picture plastered all over the place.

Seems like I see this in countries run by dictators, if-not mistaken?

Anyone still in support of this guy is either an enemy of this nation too, or too stupid to know any better.

Two people with very low ratings this week go on the air to tell people they need to support something with very low ratings on an interview with very low ratings. The viewers for the Super Bowl were irrate that they would put this ‘campaign’ on during the Super Bowl. He can’t be serious to put an interview on during the Super Bowl. Can’t we go through a day without him giving another interview.

Interesting that he wants to televise this meeting with the Republicans but not the backdoor deals with the Dems. Mr. President make up your mind.

We have a President that no one knows anything about. His birth certificate? He’s spent a ton of moneyn on lawyers to keep from showing it. His high school grades? a mystery. His SAT scores? Who knows. His college transcripts? Um, no. His LSATs? His Law School grades? His writings in law school? His records as a State Senator? All mysteries as well as his ending up in that nice big house in chicago thanks to exactly how much help from Tonty Rezko? All a pack of mysteries but Mr. Degan thinks Palin is the problem. Figures.

IT”S A TRAP!!!!
All Obama has to do is get a few Republicans to give in to the pressure of “cooperation” by suckering them in by pretending to adopt some fake free-market ideas, then include a stealth public option, and then, with a quick vote and media pressure, he will be able to capture 3 or 4 stupid Republicans.
Then the government socialist dream of govt healthcare will be announced by the media as a victory for Republicans’ cooperation, even though it will be essentially the the same socialist healthcare that Obama has been working toward.
THIS COOPERATION WILL BE THE END FOR ALL REPUBLICANS!
STICK TOGETHER AND INSIST ON A TOTAL FREE-MARKET< NON-GOVT PLAN!!!!!

Well that should go over really well, since Scott Brown is pro-choice.

He told Barbara Walters she’s never contacted us and vice-versa.
Sarah Palin placed a phone call to Sen.-elect Scott Brown on that Tuesday night to congratulate the Republican on his upset victory in Massachusetts’s special Senate election.

When confronted about the phone call,Brown’s spokesman said“Scott had forgotten about the congratulatory call from Sarah Palin on election night. It was nice of her to make the call, and it had completely slipped his mind.”YEAH RIGHT!!
Bottom line, he used the tea baggers and right wingers to raise money and get elected, now you can forget his phone number.

Any Republican representative that thinks the healthcare bill can be fixed without starting over is asking for trouble from his electorate. Transparency and bipartisanship must be employed from the start to provide this particular bill’s integrity. Anything else would wind up being the sham bill/giveaway we are faced with now. Republicans better beware of Democrats wanting to cram their nontransparent nonbipartisan healthcare bill down their Republican throats-televised! This whole thing really stinks from start to finish.
