Caught on Tape: Security Guards Stand By as Girl Brutally Attacked

AP: Three security guards watched a group of teens punch, kick and rob a 15-year-old girl in the downtown Seattle Metro bus tunnel without intervening. Security video shows the guards call for help on their radios, but they don't go to the aid of the girl even as she is being kicked in the head. A dispute involving a group of 10 teens apparently started inside a department store the evening of Jan. 28 and moved to the bus tunnel at Westlake Station, where the girl was attacked.

KING-TV reports: The guards are not trained police officers or Metro Transit employees. They're contract workers from Olympic Security Services out of Tukwila. According to their contract, the guards are to "observe and report" problems, not to get involved. Metro Transit General Manager Kevin Desmond says that policy is now out of date.

They probably have seen too many others wind up on the other end of a lawsuit, or worse, being charged with a crime themselves.

Our systems is backwards and upside down, and we act shocked when this happens.

Kevin   February 10th, 2010 - 3:08 pm

Observe and Report?

How about MANNING up you sissy’s. What kind of man would sit there and watch a young teenaged girl get her face kicked in while laying on the ground?

How would that man feel if it were HIS young daughter? Karma will bite every last one of these pathetic “guards”.

Chukkal   February 10th, 2010 - 3:09 pm

May as well get used to it. These folks are paid to do NOTHING!!! Just more of the “pork-barrel politics” that thrive in Seattle.

Carolyn   February 10th, 2010 - 3:09 pm

Should be fired. NO QUESTION. ALL THREE.

Larry   February 10th, 2010 - 3:09 pm

Wow. I live in Seattle.

Think it’s time to pick up a handgun and a CCW. It’s obvious that the only person I can trust to defend me is myself.

Concerned Citizen   February 10th, 2010 - 3:10 pm

Disgusting and deplorable. These “guards” should be charged as accomplices and accessories to the crime. They aided, and abetted the crime. These “guards” work for:

Olympic Serurity Services Inc
631 Strander Boulevard, Suite A
Tukwila, WA 98188
info@olympiksecurity.com
Phone: 206-575-8531

Just in case you wanted to know.

Steve   February 10th, 2010 - 3:10 pm

PROSECUTE THE ATTACKER to the full extent of the law! She obviously deserves to be behind bars.

matt in austin   February 10th, 2010 - 3:11 pm

What’s all the complaining about? You get what you pay for….they didn’t want to hire cops so they cheaped out and hired “observers” to call the cops. When these security personnel were hired, it was under the express understanding to NOT intervene. I say fire whoever came up with this brainiac idea and renegotiate the contract to have true security personnel. Also, reward ANYONE who attempts to help their neighbor out in this situation. I would have been happy to give these punks a little something to take home and think about.

yourplastic   February 10th, 2010 - 3:11 pm

Welcome to anarchy.

TroyTiger   February 10th, 2010 - 3:11 pm

Those guards should be fired right away.

charles   February 10th, 2010 - 3:11 pm

Fire the security contracting company immediately. Publicly post the faces and names of the 3 security cowards who did nothing. Let the community know what a bunch of useless cowards they are. Find the muggers and put them in jail. Lastly, call the lawyers and start filing the lawsuits against the city, the muggers and the security company.

Michael   February 10th, 2010 - 3:12 pm

The security must be FIRED! These 3 on tape Must be Fired.

Seattle toilet of Liberalism.

james pricer   February 10th, 2010 - 3:12 pm

This is a good example of how our boys today are being raised to be the cowards of the future. Also, I hope the Seattle taxpayers like this view of where their taxes are going.

Westfsu   February 10th, 2010 - 3:13 pm

This is Sick, and the Guards should be fired!!

I hope she and her parents sue for all the Money! I also hope the others involved all end up in Jail!!

End Them   February 10th, 2010 - 3:13 pm

These security guards should be tried and executed. They are entrusted for one reason, to secure the area and provide safety for the public. Not only did they fail at it, they willfully failed at it and watched the entire episode. They should pay with their lives and begin a process of sending messages to all public employees who are derelict in their duties.

Saxon_Thor   February 10th, 2010 - 3:13 pm

Nice. Security guards that do nothing, and are there for nothing, other than to “observe and report.” I think this is a wake-up call for all of us to take our own defense in our own hands, by whatever measure that may be. We have a right to ably defend ourselves.

Chris   February 10th, 2010 - 3:13 pm

Now I wonder if Obama will come out and say the security guards acted stupidly. He will
probably say they acted heroically. Nobody helped because they probably figured it was a
gang fight. Just goes to show you how Americans have no balls and how they have been
de-balled from liberal lawyers. Im sure if that security guard helped the poor girl
he would have been sued by someone for abuse of power since hes not a police officer.
What just happened here is a microcosm of America.

KriPpLer   February 10th, 2010 - 3:13 pm

This post was mentioned on Twitter by CO2HOG: via @Drudge_Report VIDEO: 3 Seattle bus tunnel security guards watch brutal beating of 15-year-old girl… http://bit.ly/aOXRhB #tcot…

Webster   February 10th, 2010 - 3:16 pm

So what does this vignette tell us. 1) Lawyers wrote clauses and the employees were strictly told to stay away due to lawsuit fear. 2) Certain people in this country have become very apathetic 3) Carry a gun, use it when threatened because only YOU can protect yourself.

Jose   February 10th, 2010 - 3:17 pm

Only word that comes to mind is “Cowards”. How could they watch this happen & not get involved? I know I couldn’t…Can they be charged with Failure to Stop & Render Aid?? They should get their butts kicked… How could I face my family if I’d failed to act??…Stinky Bastardly Cowards…

L Kinsella   February 10th, 2010 - 3:17 pm

Well, i hope those 3 guards have lost their jobs! Can you give us an update on this story?

HippyLover   February 10th, 2010 - 3:18 pm

How is it that the “guards” provide any service above that which any citizen can provide with a cell phone?
Is this just liberal intellectualism gone too far? Why wouldn’t anyone on the deck there
not have jumped in? For fear of a lawsuit? Do criminals really have more rights than victims in Seattle?
The “guards” should be fired or their contract dissolved!

Marshall Carroll   February 10th, 2010 - 3:19 pm

These are definitely not security guards in any sense, and should all be fired. It is a farce that they are allowed to dress in official looking uniforms. It is very likely that someone at the city level is getting a kick back for this contract. Who would pay millions of dollars for a supposed security service that does nothing. The citizens that take the bus will report anything suspicious for free.

Webster   February 10th, 2010 - 3:19 pm

charles, the security company told these “men” they would be fired if they intervened in anything. The city knew this when they hired the security agency also. This is LAWSUIT FEAR causing people to abandon morality. You should blame the city because they knew this policy.

R. Mac   February 10th, 2010 - 3:21 pm

Wow, true sign of the times. Just let people get beaten in front of you and act like nothing is happening. Sick. There was more than the three guards around. NOBODY helped out. Its the degrated US society and morals. Not just a “contract” issue.

ArmedDefense   February 10th, 2010 - 3:23 pm

And of course the Seattle Government doesn’t want any law abiding citizen to be able to protect themselves with a weapon. When security, and law enforcement do nothing to protect you when you are right in front of them, you need to protect yourself. I would have shot that guy in the face if he tried robbing me like that in Atlanta. Seattle for goodness sake protect yourself. Government will do nothing to protect you.

jacgar   February 10th, 2010 - 3:23 pm

Look and Listen Folks! This is your future generation coming to fore..The outrage in the reporting is a farce..If any of the Guards had intervened, they would have been attacked..The results would have been the PC Crowd claiming these poor little kids were brutalized..Mommy and Daddy would have SUED backed, by the ACLU..

john   February 10th, 2010 - 3:24 pm

Obviously they’re only the PC police, they’re only trained to do something if a white person is stomping on a black person.

.

plebian   February 10th, 2010 - 3:24 pm

Their needs to be an “in” inserted on their vests prior to the word “security”.
These guys are utterly worthless.

The government will take care of us.

brinda   February 10th, 2010 - 3:25 pm

I just saw this on the news.. there excuse was they were not trained to do anything about violence they are just supposed to “observe” I don’t care what kind of training they say they had.. human morality says “Stop that”

Webster   February 10th, 2010 - 3:25 pm

charles don’t you see that the LAWYERS are the problem here. the security company and the “men” wearing a useless yellow shirt are 100% clear of any LEGAL wrongdoing. Had they intervened they would then be LEGALLY at fault. Twisted isn’t it. The only people legally at fault are the city folks who approved this and if they get sued then everyones taxes pay for the payout.

Jeremy   February 10th, 2010 - 3:25 pm

this what you get when the liberals make policy, those security guards should be flogged as people sit and watch.

I don’t think you would have seen this get so out of hand here in Arizona.
There would have been at least a couple of guns pointed at these thugs as
citizens waited for law enforcement to show up and take over.

Jehu   February 10th, 2010 - 3:30 pm

Typical liberal outcome in a liberal ruled city. All shocked and surprised that having security guards on contract to “observe and report,” is worthless. Not to mention how worthless is a human being that would watch this without intervening, security person or not. Enjoy your liberal culture Seattle.

Dennis   February 10th, 2010 - 3:30 pm

Not trained officers,,,,hmmm, just natural born cowards.

Shame on the people of Seattle.

James Saunders   February 10th, 2010 - 3:30 pm

This is shameful. These ‘guards’ should be fired and charged if possible. What heartless individuals. My heart and prayers go out for this girl.

jemimah   February 10th, 2010 - 3:30 pm

pathetic! their presence gave the girl a false sense of security. she might have kept moving on if she had not seen the 3 ’security officers’ standing there. i hope they throw the book at those kids.

Webster   February 10th, 2010 - 3:31 pm

These acts do not occur frequently in areas where the second amendment is practiced.

ArmedDefense   February 10th, 2010 - 3:32 pm

Now it is time to sue the security guards for not stepping in and helping. They provided a false sense of security to this poor girl. She was standing with them because she knew she would probably be attacked. Three big security guards would protect her…. If she would have known that security guards wouldn’t help her she would have sprinted/ran out of their before the attackers came out. She would have risked out running the attackers rather than be pummeled by the attackers while the “Security” guards just watched. The only solution to this is to sue them into actually doing the right thing. Does anyone have morals anymore? Even if I would have risked losing my job, I would still “Do the right thing”.

Lee   February 10th, 2010 - 3:33 pm

These security guards are not men. Seriously, 9 out of 10 women would have done a whole lot more than these sissies.

marianne   February 10th, 2010 - 3:34 pm

From what I have heard in the news the security company instructs the guards NOT to get involved in altercations. They are directed to stand by until the police arrive, and provide their account of the activities to the police. Apparently the negative publicity from this incident is causing them to “rethink” their policy…..

D2D   February 10th, 2010 - 3:34 pm

Observe and report is all they were allowed to do! Had they done any more they would have been fired! This is a product of liberalism and unrestricted frivolous lawsuits. The law is what must be changed and the politicians who created this situation voted out of office!

One might also ask why the city is hiring contract guards (usually unsworn and generally prohibited from doing anything other than ‘observe and report’) instead of sworn police officers.

But that would lead to the fact that cities are squandering their money on social programs (ironically, like bus service) to the exclusion of providing truly critical public services (like police.)

Bus services should be private companies, profit driven & unsubsidized.

Government-paid security should be sworn police officers, service driven & fully funded.

Truly, upside-down and backwards.

The three security guards should be fired immediately. To hell with what their contract says….where is the compassion? They had none….and should be doing hard time for their lack of action. As for the attackers, same with them. Kill them all and help save the gene pool. The person above is right…if it had been a white teenaged girl attacking the black girl, they would have jumped in and stomped her. The guards are uselelss POS’s and should not be allowed to hold any job, anywhere, anytime…remove them from society immediately, along with the attackers. Sick scumbags, all of them.

djh   February 10th, 2010 - 3:41 pm

Try all the filthy little animals as adults and put them in the big boys and girls prisons, let’s see how tough they are then!

I hope this girl finds a loophole and sues the security company into non-existence! And these three ‘men’… cowardly, dishonorable, disgusting, poor excuses for little boys and they deserve public scourn, shame and to be unemployed for this! There is absolutely no excuse for this – none at all. Falling back on ‘the contract’ is a cowardly diversion and nothing more than an excuse to disregard your obligations as a man.

Tony   February 10th, 2010 - 3:41 pm

I will never allow my daughter to use Metro Transit. I am disgusted with Seattle. Riding public transportation always makes you into prey. Sorry, enviromentalist but even sheep need security.

Peter   February 10th, 2010 - 3:41 pm

When the USA puts Navy SEALS on trial for supposedly splitting a lip while capturing the terrorist who murdered, hung and burned those contractors in Iraq, do you honestly think these security guards who were told NEVER to intervene would step in? They were turning their backs because they were disgusted at what they saw. In today’s world, taking a stand and using force to stop bullies is looked upon like you are stomping puppies to death. Progressives view turning us all into victims as progress.

blaine   February 10th, 2010 - 3:41 pm

@myleftbrain:

I think you are absolutely right. With trial lawyers and over-zealous (often feminist) prosecutors out there, these guards probably feared that they, and not the assailants, would be the ones on trial if they intervened. Seriously, our culture is dangerously over-regulated and far too legalistic – which means that “common-sense,” basic decency and rushing to the aid of someone you see in distress are all things that are now under fire.

Argel Cedro Wooley   February 10th, 2010 - 3:42 pm

the attackers necessarily.

Thomas Boyette   February 10th, 2010 - 3:44 pm

“Amazingly she is going to be okay” – No details about her injuries? Broken jaw? Concussion? Also, why not state the names of the guards and attackers (plural because the other “teens” were a part of it)? Why report the story at all if you’re going to gloss over the facts? And yes, I beleive the Metro guards are criminally liable and should be charged.

Culture_Skeptic   February 10th, 2010 - 3:44 pm

The reporter said it all in the first statement, “A pack of teens….” The “yutes” these days are basically animals. I won’t make any racial comments here and nobody else should either because this condition crosses all ethnic boundaries!

If the city can’t protect it’s citizens, they should be settling for a boat load of money for the injured party.

AntiLibturd   February 10th, 2010 - 3:44 pm

Sweep the Libturds out of office and the RINOS as well and rebuiild the system based upon the Constitution and Bill of Rights! No more lawyer speak garbage! The assailants need caned or put to hard labor for several years!

ctpicman   February 10th, 2010 - 3:45 pm

You get what you pay for. I worked as a mall security guard the summer between college and seminary. I was paid minimum wage. The mall manager wanted me to detain shop lifters and the like (and use force if need be). Not for minimum wage! The people of Seattle should press for actual police presence in these areas. In all probability, the security firm got the contract because they were the LOW bid. Like I said at the outset: You get what you pay for and this poor girl is the one who paid the price.

Brad Green   February 10th, 2010 - 3:47 pm

kevin   February 10th, 2010 - 3:47 pm

The blame here is with Seattle Metro. The guards are put in the position where if they help someone being attacked they will be fired due to their terms of hire. If Seattle Metro wants to protect people they need to hire police to be the security. Otherwise you might as well just set up cameras because thats all these “security” are through no fault of their own.

Unfortunately, lots of contract security companies specifically prohibit their employees from interfering or involving themselves in any situation that may be dangerous (especially for legal reasons). Just because they are security guards doesn’t mean they are similar to police officers and must risk their own physical well-being for others. They are contracted to usually “Observe and Report” not to “stop all bad things from happening”. It really depends on what the scope of work is between the metro and the contracted security company.

And so we don’t all get so wrapped up in what the guards SHOULD have done, the individual(s) who were physically attacking the woman must be prosecuted.

I don’t blame them for being politically correct.

The Seattle Times is reporting that the “security” guards are not allowed to get into any physical altercation. Why the hell are they called SECURITY GUARDS then??? Webster, good points. I was a teacher in public schools and our contract stated that we were not obliged to jump-in and break up fights… but we did anyways and we let the lawyers and school administrators fight it out afterwards. The message from the teachers to our students was this- you’re safe in our school. Those three grown men (to be referred to as “cowards” from henceforth) should’ve stepped-up and stopped the brutal beating and possible killing of a teenage girl even if it meant losing their lousy, corrupt jobs. For those three men to shrug their shoulders and say that they were under contract obligation to allow such a beating is nothing but pure cowardice on their parts. How they can look themselves in the mirror without feeling shame is beyond me. Your implied suggestion for law abiding citizens to arm themselves is a good one, especially when the law enforcement and justice system of that city no longer serve the working people. In the meantime, fight fire with fire, and lawyers with lawyers. Let the lawsuits begin.

Godot   February 10th, 2010 - 3:52 pm

I agree with Charles and plebian. Webster are you blind? The Insecurity guards (thanks plebian!) could have surrounded the girl or said something to the attackers. It’s called proper training and authoritative posturing versus just a bunch of punk teens. If the punks were armed, (this is what the Insecurity guards will claim now that this has hit the fan) the punks would have shot the girl in the head and run and it would have been a different story. Had the adults acted, at all, to disuade their actions these kids wouldn’t have been so bold. You can tell by the bullies body language and the adults how this was going to go down. The victim did everything right to protect herself.

With these guards, it has less to do with what is in their contract, and more to do with what is in their moral fiber. Trust me, none of them were thinking about their contracts or their jobs, they were just thinking about not becoming involved. They’d have acted the same way if it were written in their contract. Bottom line is the punks and the adults have no respect for others just themselves.

Please put it on the record that the wing-nuts posting here are in the minority of Wing-nut Nation, by asserting that it is okay for black teenagers to pack heat for protection.

Chaz   February 10th, 2010 - 3:53 pm

It’s Seattle. Everyone involved (or uninvolved) is simply misunderstood. Rage against Bush. Or, maybe just global warming.

NWO   February 10th, 2010 - 3:56 pm

This report states that the victims purse is stolen by the attackers. Note in the video, that one of the “security guards” has the victims white purse in his hand and walks to his left out of view of the camera. Apparently, he handed over the purse to the attackers, Of course they “stole” it from him…

at ease to see her expire right there? MY GOD!!   February 10th, 2010 - 3:57 pm

common decency, EXACTLY!
if you see a dog drowning and you can help,a “NO TRESAPASSING” sign is not gonna
stop you from helping. how much more so for a young human life, a girl at that
against a GANG of teenagers? any life should have been protected regardless of
rules…

David E. Reynolds   February 10th, 2010 - 3:57 pm

Another liberal City that hires people to do nothing. It is very sad that you would ecen put the name security on these POS people. These Security personal????? are just a example of things to come if we don’t come back to our senses. I know they won’t be fired as they are just doing their job drwing a wage. I don’t how anybody can live with themselves?

JD Mix   February 10th, 2010 - 3:58 pm

Wow! Those guards might as well be wearing UN-Blue helmets for all the good they do..! But then again, Seattle is an overwhelmingly ‘blue’ city (i.e. Democrat), just like all the other crime-ridden urban areas across this great country.

Vote Conservative and lets get real, get smart, and get tough about crime.

Robert   February 10th, 2010 - 3:58 pm

The million dollar question now becomes, why are we paying for security guards who are told not to get involved? (If that is the case) It would probable be much more cost effective to install security cameras and allow the police department a live feed.
I wonder if this is an example of the unintended consequences of liberal lawmakers, liberal politicians and liberal voters? When the criminals have more rights than the victims. We made our beds and now are forced to sleep in them.

my child; your child...   February 10th, 2010 - 3:59 pm

will these guards standby when this girls family stomps the living daylights out of the goonss
who did this?

How come that woman that was there and is now being so critical of the security guards didn’t spring into action if she were so concerned?

sean patriot   February 10th, 2010 - 3:59 pm

All 3 of those cowards need to lose their job.

INsecurity, rightly said!   February 10th, 2010 - 4:00 pm

…there but for the Grace of God…

Jon   February 10th, 2010 - 4:01 pm

The security guards are probably under instructions not to physically touch anyone, even if an incident like this occurs. (e.g. observe and call the cops) Welcome to the world of corporate liability folks!

Marv   February 10th, 2010 - 4:01 pm

The older I get, the more I experience, the more I learn, the less I like black people in general. “Racism” is a learned behavior, stop giving us white folk daily lessons. 12% of the population 90% of the problems.

Powers Boothe   February 10th, 2010 - 4:02 pm

That’s what you get a Liberal Seattle……. If i was there, the attacking teens would be recovering from gunshot wounds.

subasio   February 10th, 2010 - 4:02 pm

This crap has got to stop.

ddddff   February 10th, 2010 - 4:02 pm

I volunteer to be on thr jury for the case when the victim sues the security company and the city!

david   February 10th, 2010 - 4:02 pm

I used to catch the bus at that exact location every day for a year when I was riding that route. The ’security’ is a joke there.

This incident shows exactly what happens when we become complacent and let the criminals do as they please. As far as I’m concerned that girls life was in danger and thanks to Washington state law, that means that use of deadly force on the attacker was justified. Too bad no one took that worthless pile of crap off this planet. Her friends might have got a nice lesson why you shouldn’t attack someone.

ZIegler   February 10th, 2010 - 4:04 pm

Charles: It’s not a matter of losing thier lousy jobs. It’s a matter of losing their life. Seattle isnt exactly the gun ownership capitol of the world. That means that mostly criminals and police own guns. 3 overweight, out of shape, probably in their 50’s, security guards are going to take on…8 teenage male youths. They were probably just as scared as anybody else on that platform. They know, as well as the teenagers, that anything they may do to intervene will only subsequently ruin their lives if not end them. There was no good thing that could ome out of it for them. It’s a shame and what this country deserves for sacrificing liberty for security. Benji taught me that.

Beowulfe   February 10th, 2010 - 4:05 pm

Were that my daughter, by the time I got done suing the living spit out of those “security guards”, their employers, the city, and the state, I’d they’d WISH it was them that got their heads kicked in. Those worthless dirtbags deserve AT LEAST as much as the one who committed the crime. For all intents and purposes, those sorry SOBs aided and abetted the perpetrators, and should be treated as if they were the ones who threw the punches.

yo14   February 10th, 2010 - 4:05 pm

No wonder why Obama and Holder are trying to allow fellons to vote. The only way we save our republic is to allow federal tax payers to vote. Otherwise it is only a matter of time before the inmates are running the joint. Sorry kids we blew the greatest country in the world becuase of political correctness. No Mas.

Daisy   February 10th, 2010 - 4:06 pm

This kind of thing doesn’t happen in Seattle?! Wow. Just wow. My son had his head repeatedly kicked by a homeless panhandler in Seattle (for refusing to donate $$$ to his cause). So, the paid so called ’security guards’ behave like spineless wimps. What’s everyone else’s excuse?

L.A.Man   February 10th, 2010 - 4:06 pm

Forget the contract – any man who would stand by and let a girl get beaten like that is a spineless coward.

You telling me those three guards couldn’t have held that girl away from the fallen girl???

Give me a break. Those three guards are bucking for a TSA job for sure.

Wanda   February 10th, 2010 - 4:06 pm

Just hard to belive that some one could stand by and do nothing at all very very sad I dont care if you arent trained to do anything ARE YOU HUMMAN????

phlogiston   February 10th, 2010 - 4:06 pm

Gosh, were those black folks involved in the melee? I’m shocked. Shocked.

Of course, efforts to induce people to ride public transportation with such thuggery extant, seem destined to be fruitless.

The “restraint” imposed by a government that seems more duty bound by its ideology to coddle “the bad guys,” illustrated by the case in which as a poster noted, culminated in the terrorist’s “split lip” prosecution of the Navy Seals, certainly cannot realistically expect intervention by folks who expose themselves to both retribution and prosecution. Maybe a State such as Texas, which permits carrying and dispatching the thugs would have been helpful in California.

Susan   February 10th, 2010 - 4:07 pm

Why is there no transit police in the Tunnel? It just goes to show how f’up King County Metro is…My question is what kind of human being stands by and watches this happen? Get rid of the worthless security Co. and have transit police in the Tunnel.

frakkin blacks always attacking helpless in groups. they need to be taken out by armed citizens. only bullets will stop this despicable trash. May God grant me the opportunity to exterminate and protect my fellow citizens.

TiminPhx   February 10th, 2010 - 4:08 pm

What a joke some of you brave folks are behind your computer screens. These men are forbidden from doing anything. As another poster said, they would most likely get arrested by the police themselves.

Are they allowed any weapons? Most likely not. Have they seen police response to prior situations take forever.
Did any of you see the part where there were 3 of them and 10 of the others. And by the way, you can bet there were some firearms among those 10.

But no, you want to whine about the guards. It’s not their job to go defenseless into a mob of people, to extract someone, who most likely is part of that slimy mob a few mintues before, when they turn on themselves.

You explain to their families why they, working for ten bucks an hour should end up going to the hospital, being fired by their employer, denied any worker’s comp or ending up with a toe tag.

Blame the scum, all the laws that prevent the public, including making the guards defenseless, from getting involved. Don’t blame three working joes, who did precisely what you would have done, if forced into the same situation.

t   February 10th, 2010 - 4:08 pm

you gotta love the yuppie who is outraged…… but did nothing, like oh my god that girl is getting beat (I wonder if lost is on tonight)

Steve   February 10th, 2010 - 4:09 pm

Ah yes…looks like the training of our future concentration/re-education camp guards is coming along nicely.

JMacinSJ   February 10th, 2010 - 4:10 pm

Hopefully these cowards no longer have jobs! What the he!! is their point for being there to begin with???

SeeMore   February 10th, 2010 - 4:10 pm

Companies that use fake security cameras are required by law to tell their employees the cameras are fake so they don’t have a false sense of security in the parking lot.
This story is not much different then that. The security guards produce a false sense of security where as the public that goes down in that tunnel think there are guards to help when in fact they are told not to.
If there are no signs saying the guards are not there to help then the person that was attacked will be a very rich person very soon if they get a good lawyer. hint hint

Zombie   February 10th, 2010 - 4:10 pm

Damn. I hope those three guards have their faces plastered all over town as cowards. I don’t care what your contract says you can’t do. You don’t stand there and let someone be beat like that right in front of you.

ChuckyCheese1   February 10th, 2010 - 4:10 pm

On a similar note, I wonder if Obama will listen to the GOP on tort reform. Watch the video again with this in mind…

Victim = The American Taxpayer
Perpetrator = Frivolous lawsuits and people who take advantage of the system
Kid who takes purse = Lawyers
Security Guards who do nothing = Democrat Legislators
Spectators that turns their backs, and friends that encourage it = Libs
Disgusted witness = Conservatives

… if you’re contract forbids you from protecting a little girl from getting brutalized, then it’s time to break your contract, put your job on the line, and suffer the consequences for doing the right thing as a descent HUMAN BEING! Our first contract is with God, to be moral and defend our fellow man. No one has the authority to nullify this contract and no one has the right to ignore for the sake of a wage (money). They bought your souls, cowards, and probably didn’t even give you Christmas off. Pathetic!

jay12   February 10th, 2010 - 4:10 pm

Just look at that CLOWN “Sgt. John Urquhart” in the news video, giving the typical hand-wringing performance of a typical do-nothing chair-warmer. When they use him as an example of local law enforcement, you know the reason for what you see going on in the streets.

Tim   February 10th, 2010 - 4:11 pm

If those guards interfered Obama might have accused them of acting stupidly.

Jim   February 10th, 2010 - 4:12 pm

Well George Bush strikes again. First he caused Katrina, now he makes these black kids act like animals.

Your brother   February 10th, 2010 - 4:12 pm

kolbee123   February 10th, 2010 - 4:13 pm

In the 70’s, Archie Bunker told a reporter a way to put a halt to all of the airline hijackings…arm the passengers. (from ‘All in the Family’ for you young ‘uns)

John P.   February 10th, 2010 - 4:14 pm

The contract doesn’t prevent the guards from standing between two people and yelling “STOP!” Or holding out their arms to do SOMETHING to indicate that they don’t condone what’s going on. In the video they don’t even appear to care. I hope they now feel deep shame and are soon fired. What a pack of cowards.

Also, this paranoid right-wing crap is a laugh. What does this case have to do with Obama or the Second Amendment or political correctness or welfare or any of that? Is it because black people are involved? Something about the Obama era has riled up all the cooks and bigots who had managed to suppress their prejudice before. Oh, and to that guy who said this doesn’t happen where the Second Amendment is “practiced.” That is the DUMBEST thing I have EVER heard.

Bob   February 10th, 2010 - 4:15 pm

We will probably find out that the group were all “family”. The “Queen Bee (QB)” decided she had an issue with the victim and text messaged her “family”. They formed a gang for her support, because she is the QB and surrounded the scene to protect the QB while she took out her revenge. The QB is a coward and can not handle her own issues. No one has put a handle on her anger management issues. Maybe the victim had done something to offend the QB, but she did not deserve a beating. This happens in schools. The “family” text each other to confront a victim and that is why students should not be allowed out of the class room during a lecture to attend to “family” business.

"What a world, what a world"   February 10th, 2010 - 4:15 pm

Absolutely pathetic. The emasculated American male in action (non-action). Because of our legal system, things like this can occur. Doesn’t that make you attorneys proud? America is so corrupt that this kind of thing can happen, while (3) “security” guards look on yawning.

The girl getting her head stomped could easily have been killed because of the trauma that is inflicted in “head stomping.” How these men could stand there and do nothing is beyond my understanding. They literally have no soul.

As shocking as this video is, I’m not surprised. It is a product of our legal system that made human decency go out the window.

Not long ago my family was leaving the parking lot of a grocery store. We saw an older woman laying on the ground on her side and at least three people standing around in the vicinity. I ran over to her, as no one seemed to be interested to get too close. She apparently got hit by a car she did not see pulling out of a parking space and the driver apparently thought she stopped to let him go first. I was stunned that no one even bend over to ask if she was ok. She asked me to call her husband. Here is where my outrage at the idle bystanders started to fade away. The woman’s husband did not ask me how she was doing or if he could talk to her. The most important thing to him was to get information on the car, driver and any one else that was there. I told him the police were taking care of that and hung up in disgust.

kcs   February 10th, 2010 - 4:16 pm

The “security guards” appear to be prime TSA material.

As astounding as their lack of interest is the temerity of the attacker, committing her crime within feet of them.

Shades of Clockwork Orange, except Alex and his Droogies at least departed the crime scene when the coppers were about to arrive.

Python   February 10th, 2010 - 4:16 pm

It looked just like a typical day in lower east London …..

Montucky Joe   February 10th, 2010 - 4:16 pm

Obviously, prosecute the attacker and her accomplices to the fullest extent of the law (and cut off her hands while we’re at it). Attempted murder, 10 years minimum. Since the “security” guards did not provide any security, fire them all, sue them individually, along with their company, and the city. Should be good for at least one million. Disgusting black trash.

John P.   February 10th, 2010 - 4:16 pm

No, no wait. This here below is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. A truly record-setting comment thread.

In the 70’s, Archie Bunker told a reporter a way to put a halt to all of the airline hijackings…arm the passengers. (from ‘All in the Family’ for you young ‘uns)

Government In Action   February 10th, 2010 - 4:17 pm

Fire the Guards. WHY are we paying taxes to have them stand around doing nothing. Charge every one of the attackers with Felony Assult, Robbery and every other three strike charge that fits. I hope the girl or her parents sue the hell out of the security company. Also for good measure FIRE the Metro supervisor responsible for signing the non-intervention contract with the security company. He/She is INCOMPETENT!

phlogiston   February 10th, 2010 - 4:17 pm

You’ve got to wonder if there is pervasive “hard-wiring” for such behavior. Is the brutal warfare as practiced in such places as The Congo, spilling over into American communities? Murder, rape, hacking off of limbs … . Are more severe restraints required for some groups than for others? Are there “different strokes for different folks” required so as to keep a society operative?

It seems that the “gun control” laws, for example, were motivated as a response to “urban” crime and that the society as a whole is being convoluted to address problems that are largely concentrated in particular communities.

Should the reality of such circumstances continue to be ignored, or should they be addressed? Why?

chad   February 10th, 2010 - 4:18 pm

Marv@4:01 i grew up with blacks. i played football and basketball with them. while in high school i got along and had friends that were black. on the weekend i would drop by the black bar in the country where i lived and drink some beer with some of them. while i recognized they had problems i did not hate them and i was not a racist. now however as an educated adult who has seen so much of their lack of humanity i absolute abhor and HATE them so thoroughly it is no hope of me every changing back. they are not human. they are sub-human animals. the worst mistake of President Lincoln was not repatriating blacks after the war to their home countries. now we are being destroyed by them slowly. absolutely sickening.

I don’t care if it was lawyers, the city, or whatever. This girl sought out help and was denied of it. I am like the lady who witnessed this, stunned to no end.

The comments about the ACLU coming down on them if they had intervened may actually be true, but I wouldn’t care if I were going to be sued or not. I would have done anything to protect her and let a jury decide later if I was a wrong. What a bunch of absolute MORONS. I hope if the girl reads this, she has a speedy recovery and realizes not everyone on this stupid planet is as pathetic as these 3 idiots. I can’t even believe I’m writing the number 3.

fedup   February 10th, 2010 - 4:29 pm

Why is there a “security contractor” who must only “watch and report” if they have a doggone camera that does the same thing? The Seattle gov’t actually thought it was a GOOD idea to waste money on security guards who do the same thing as a camera — which already exists. Multiply this thousands of times and you get the Federal Govt (and Trillions of dollars of debt).

People should not be afraid to use the 2nd amendment. Contrary to what the liberal elite will tell you, guns will save your life. Get a gun and take a safety course and then learn how to use your new gun. Too many people have been robbed, raped or killed because they were unarmed.

The girl in the video was on her own. It is sad that the security guards turned their backs on this girl and should be a criminal offense for giving the public a false sense of security. Truth be known the supreme court has ruled the cops that the coward guards called do not have to help her either.

The Way It Is   February 10th, 2010 - 4:31 pm

This is simply the way it is in America these days. Gutless idiots have allowed protecting teens from being beaten become something that has to be litigated out and agreed upon in meetings and paperwork.

Of course, so many people would be against simply throwing the thugs into jail for 5 years with no chance of parole, because they would be up in arms about how cruel that is.

It’s way past time that people realize that scum behaves like this, because we tolerate it. Build a jail the size of a state, fill it up, lose the keys, and enjoy being able to walk down the street at night.

It’s pathetic how many people are outraged by even locking someone up after they’ve committed multiple acts of violence. These cries of “we need to reform” and “we need to educate” these youths are major parts of the problem!!!

They know they shouldn’t be beating people half to death. They know it’s wrong top steal. Look at them running away… that’s what you do when you know you’ve done something that is illegal.

Growing up poor has nothing to do with this. It’s just plain savage behavior from the worst elements of society. These “kids” should be made to prove they are ready to be back in society… that is after breaking rocks and earning degrees in prison for the next 5 to 10 years.

Period!

Buy a gun and carry it for protection   February 10th, 2010 - 4:31 pm

At the 2:40 time in the video, had I been at the top of the escalator with a 9mm, I would have pulled it and laid waste to all those thieves. Yep, welcome to the so called “Conservative” black communities. The girl that got attacked would do well to carry a .25 or .32 caliber with her.

jeff   February 10th, 2010 - 4:31 pm

that was for sure a racist camera someone should have had a concealed weapon that would of ended it real fast whopps wait a minute Washington state will not allow that

I think Webster up there had it right — Got Gun?

“More Guns Less Crime” — book written by Economist/Lawyer.. John Lott?

In “right to carry” jurisdictions there is less crime because thugs don’t know who is carrying a gun for self defense. It works.

The union contract limits the guards in that they can only have their thumbs up their butts and their heads in Texas. As a result of this deplorable incident, new language will be incorporated to allow for the momentary removal of their thumbs to assist pedestrians.

Anyone care to guess what the above two percentages represent?

Local Youths   February 10th, 2010 - 4:33 pm

“This kind of thing doesn’t happen in Seattle…” Man, it happens all the time. And it’s always the same people, “local youths.” And it’s always witnessed by cops or security who don’t get involved because these “local youths” get to do whatver they want downtown.

Google “beaten,” beaten to death” and “Seattle” or “Pioneer Square” That town is in total denial.

Steve In phoenix   February 10th, 2010 - 4:34 pm

This video made me sick. They are human scum, and the guards are all cowards. I would rather lose my job than witness that and not try to stop it. F the rules the girl was brutalized. That gang needs a dose of old style Southie Justice. Because the courts will not help.

Off Duty   February 10th, 2010 - 4:35 pm

Poster Webster nailed it. We have allowed ourselves to become subjects of the radical lawyers, activist lawyers and trial lawyers…..and judges. They have essentially turned our laws into a joke and our Constitution into a suicide pact. On top of all that we have a complicit media who love the anarchy because of the interest it generates and the copy it sells. They are killing us. Not with guns, but they are killing us.

The Pilgrim   February 10th, 2010 - 4:36 pm

Blame the lawyers. Had one of the Security Guards even touched one of those “minor” children they’d have been sued at the least, and Jesse Jackson/Al Sharpton et al would have jetted in from New York screaming racism…

This is why NO ONE should ever depend on government to protect them. EVER. People should be armed and trained to protect themselves. This is what you get when people decide to let authority protect themselves instead of using their own constitutional right to bear arms and protect themselves. If any legally armed citizen had been standing there when this assault and attempted murder occurred, it would have been within their rights to use the same amount of force to defend that girl as they would have used in defending themselves. Wake up, people. Don’t let liberal America take away your rights!

TxnByBrth   February 10th, 2010 - 4:41 pm

Letting this trash attack a girl, and then doing nothing to intercede or help, clearly defines the guards as cowards and indecent. Common decency, of which no one on that platform seemed to have, is not a characteristic of the three guards. The cowardly little pieces of trash that attacked the girl should all be punished…and the little skank that stole her purse will end up in one of our prisons, and we’ll end up feeding him. His mother should have kept the placenta and flushed the little punk…

Guess what? Seattle is a liberal bastion. They don’t know how to react to this. They think they’re immune to this because they are educated.

The Chil-ren and security guards should be invited to the White House for a “can’tweallgetalong” snowball fight with the great community organizer OblameO.

Uncle Tom   February 10th, 2010 - 4:47 pm

Thank goodness we have a leader in the White House who is sensitive to the perils of everyday folks; and he will probably discuss this incident in between bites of Kobe beef at the next White House Dinner. As a result of the discussion, I suspect Rodney King will be tapped as the new “Can we get along” Czar.

Dennis   February 10th, 2010 - 4:48 pm

Security guards are not police. They have no more power of arrest than your grandmother does. They are usually unarmed. Their instructions are to not get involved in crimes they may observe, but to call them in and let the police handle it. Their job is to Deter, Detect, Observe, and Report. They would most likely have been fired if they had gotten involved.

If you want cops for security, hire cops and pay for cops.

One Citizen with a pistol could have saved the girl.

ChuckyCheese1   February 10th, 2010 - 4:56 pm

The problem is not race or skin color, the problem is a culture that makes fun of folks like Frederick Douglas, Condoleezza Rice, Michael Steele, Booker T. Washington, Clarence Thomas, Stanley Crouch, Bill Cosby, Alan Keyes, Walter Williams etc. as “Uncle Toms” and associates success, proper diction, and conservative morals as “selling out to the man.” Well, “the man” didn’t get to be “the man” by embracing thug-culture, or depending on “the State” to care for them. Nor did “the man” let people like Jesse Jackson keep them in victim mode. I understand the frustration people have, but morality and intelligence is found in the mind and soul, not the skin pigment. As long as skin color is blamed for this type of thing we fail to address (and therefore correct) the real problem which is 1) black-racism (a learned hatred of “white culture” – i.e. things typically associated with successful, conservative white people) and 2) liberalism (the State as our father).

Tom   February 10th, 2010 - 4:59 pm

I’m not sure about WA state, but in CA if you have a guard card, your function is limited to observe and report only. There is an obvious problem with the law in this respect. If however the guards are not carded and are acting as agents of the owner (as are private company bouncers), they have a duty to step in and protect the customer as soon as possible.

R from ID   February 10th, 2010 - 4:59 pm

First security guard says, “Not in my job description to help this girl.”
“Nope, not my job,” says the second security guard.
Third one says, “No way, that’s not my job!”
Mr. Metro General Manager says, “…this is just not acceptable…” and “observe and report” needs to be changed in their contract.
I ask, “Why do they call Security Guards, “Security Guards”?

The city is more afraid of being sued than being concerned about the safety of their citizens.

Ziegler   February 10th, 2010 - 5:00 pm

Charles: save your bravado for the women folk. I’m not saying I agree with them, I carry a gun with me everywhere I go, and I dont nor will I ever have a permit or registered weapon. Those men were specifically not allowed to, and if you look at them, they are not exactly Stone Cold Steve Austin, 3 of them vs 8 male youths and 2 female youths that looked to be in decent physical condition. They were probably scared. What about the dozens of people on the platform, none of them cared either. We’ve taught society that it is in your best interest to look the other way. This all started with Bernard Goetz and has only gotten worse since then. It will continue to get worse as well. “from apathy to dependance to bondage” …only a couple of steps left.

Inter   February 10th, 2010 - 5:00 pm

This seems to be happening all to often – young people these days seem to have no respect for human life. To be honest i don’t know if i would have stepped in either because no doubt everybody else would have just stood by and watched. You cannot really call the “security guards” human because in my eyes they are just as bad, they should be fired, sued and if they have kids they should be taken from them as they clearly have no idea of the value of human life and would no doubt just stand by as their own kids were beaten. I am not scared of lawyers and would gladly have faced court proceedings if it meant that this poor girl did not receive a beating for a purse. Also if it takes a large group to watch and make sure the beating takes place then them as well as the guards are just cowards with no spine or “balls” to speak of. I fully agree that responsible citizens should carry guns and blow these idiots of the face of this planet.

big Tuna   February 10th, 2010 - 5:00 pm

Why are we surprised that this happened in Seattle? Because it’s full of chicken hearted libs. Try doing this in a fly over state and not only would the girl doing the stumping get stumped but so would the rest of her posse. Why are we surprised????

BeninBama   February 10th, 2010 - 5:01 pm

What this really indicates is a crisis of manhood. A real man would’ve stepped in to protect the weaker among us, regardless of whether it was in the “company policy” or not.

Rod   February 10th, 2010 - 5:02 pm

For all who claim the guards would be fired, what’s the point of them being there in the first place? Complete waste of money for their salaries. The woman commentator said it best, “You call that security?”

If I were a guard in that situation, I’d have done my best to stop the beatings, job or lawsuits notwithstanding. It’s the right thing to do and should have been kinda intuitive, especially to “security guards.”

It’s a good bet that the attacker knew the security guards. First, not only did the attacker not stop when the guard put his hand out (-2:52), she became more aggressive. Secondly, when the attacker approaches the victim, one of the guards walks away from the scene (-3:16). I think the prosecuting attorney would do well to look into the relationship of the guards and the attacking mob. And even if there is no friendship between the groups, hold the guards as equally responsible for not intervening.

Nate   February 10th, 2010 - 5:03 pm

Just a bunch of Damn Animals. The attackers, the by stander and the pathetic “security” officers. I hope this girls sues the city or whom ever employees the “security” slugs for a ton of cash. As for the Animals, lock them up and let what happens to them in jail happen. There are too many good people in this world to worry about trash like them.

Eric H.   February 10th, 2010 - 5:03 pm

Yes, the guards are at fault – but so are a dozen or more average citizens who were standing nearby and could’ve stopped this. We are quickly becoming a nation of cowardly sheep. Before casting blame, ask yourself: Am I prepared to step in and take control of a violent situation? If you are, good – and (God forbid) if you find yourself in a situation like that, take decisive action and show strength and integrity. If not (if you would be a “bystander” while someone is getting kicked in the head) – then you should start mentally and physically getting prepared to overcome this weakness so that you could do the RIGHT thing, instead of the WRONG thing. (Plus, it could just as easily be YOU who becomes a victim.) All over Seattle there are good self-defense classes, tactical training courses, concealed pistol licensing, and all sorts of ways to begin learning how to defend yourself (and others) responsibly. Do your part. We are citizens, not subjects. We should be protectors, not sheep.

S Red   February 10th, 2010 - 5:03 pm

I worked security for many years, unless you are an armed guard, you are to observe and report. They are not police officers, do you think they would get anything from their company when they get stabbed breaking up a fight. It isn’t in their job description. If you are going to blame the security guards, you also need to blame every other civilian who saw it happening and did not intervene.

Bob   February 10th, 2010 - 5:03 pm

They did what they were supposed to. They called for help. Not only could they get fired or sued for intervening they could easily get stabbed or worse. No way I’m going to get in-between a mob of crazed thugs and their chosen target. Not if I was unarmed as these guards are anyway.

Michael   February 10th, 2010 - 5:05 pm

This is the result of liberal entitlement programs and social advancement in schools. 50 years of these programs and more and more animals on the streets. Look at LA, Chicago, Detroit etc. No more accountability in society and if progressives continue to push their agenda’s we will end up like a third world country. Any thing goes with the left. Well as long as it doesn’t get to them.

dan kardas   February 10th, 2010 - 5:06 pm

this points out that the only security you have is to be armed, with a gun, a knife, pepperspray, etc, and to apply these weapons as necessary to protect yourself. The security guards thought Obama was going to protect her. Ridiculous! Paid security guards are worthless
whether it’s TSA, mall cops, etc. They are all worthless! The STUPID law restricts them from doing anything.
Time to teach everyone how to defend themselves and to respect others by helping them in a time of need. The
day is coming when someone will not put up with this stuff and as an innocent bystander, shoot the people causing
violence. Very unfortunate.

Seattle Resident   February 10th, 2010 - 5:10 pm

People… it’s not their fault that they brutalized this young girl, it’s society’s fault! These people don’t know any better than to resort to violence to accomplish their goals because society has not been there for them and nurtured them in the right way! We should simply slap them on the wrist and tell them they’ve been bad, and perhaps sit down with them and discuss their problems. Also, the girl probably had it coming, considering she is a white racist who is contributing to society’s problems! OK, enough of the sarcasm. This happened in Seattle, where people are probably going to feel sorry for the perpetrators, rather than demand justice. If I was carrying my .22, 9mm, .40, or .45, I would probably have taken it out to teach these “humans” a little bit about gunpowder… I can’t wait for some liberal public defender to argue that society is to blame. If this were a group of white guys beating up on a black girl, Al Sharpton and probably Obama would be crying how racism is still alive in this country…. I have not heard a peep out of either of them!

These are low paid security guards with no “combat” training or weapons. They are NOT police. They are not equipped or trained to confront these thugs physically. They did what they were hired and trained to do. If you want police, then you will have to pay a much higher price.

The City, though, should not have placed the safety of so many people in the hands of these poorly trained people.

As a security guard myself I can say you have to be very cautious when dealing with the public. You do NOT have any real authority, and you can easily escalate a situation to the point of being attacked yourself. It is so easy to get sued. The best you can do is just observe as much detail as possible so you can be a good witness for the Police. Yes, I would love to see the guard pull out a taser, or an asp and beat the assailant to the ground, but that isn’t going to happen.

Greg from Maryland   February 10th, 2010 - 5:15 pm

Think! I am disturbed by the racisim in these posts, it is not race that matters, it is CULTURE! The despicable urban American black culture is indeed vile, viloent, truely racist, dooming its adherents to permanent poverty and misery and should be rejected by everyone, black or white. Have you noticed how many white kids, even asian and hispanic kids, are adopting this horrible value system, the music (sorry, but some think it is music) the pants falling down prison fashions? THINK, and hate the CULTURE, reject the culture, fight against the culture, be brave and speak against it, but for the sake of descent humans everywhere do not allow yourself the easy thing of hating everyone in the black race. There are some really good folks who are black, everyone knows this.

Sgt. John Urquhart, of the King County Police Department…must be new to the area. The Seattle Police are known for standing around while citizens are beaten and killed…WTO riots in 1999…Kristopher Kime in 2001…soldiers beaten in 2005. All of these events were witnessed by Seattle Police. Not quite sure why they take an oath to PROTECT AND SERVE…because when needed they do neither.

Gerald R.   February 10th, 2010 - 5:19 pm

This isn’t a case of a lone security officer not doing anything — maybe that I could somewhat understand. This was about 3 security officers being right there and doing nothing. At least there would have been 3 of them if they feared they might be attacked also. Many years ago I was in somewhat the same situation with 3 other friends but we did somthing about it. It was the only human thing to do.

After reading my post, it is ignorant. I have black friends, I am just so sick and tired of blacks playing the race card if somebody disagrees. Obama, Patterson, Steele it is just getting old. The guy I want for president is Col. Allen West. This over playing of the race card is sending us backward as a society. Me included. Sorry for the ignorant statement. Content of Character words to live by, not color of skin is an excuse for bad behavior.

wayne   February 10th, 2010 - 5:24 pm

it’s government jobs for welfare mamas it’s not security. the security guards should be hung from the nearest tree. Any adult should step forward to stop this kind of crap. Observe and report what a CROCK. Liberalism at it’s best. If you think government is the answer this should open you eyes.

TwoThoms   February 10th, 2010 - 5:24 pm

These “guards” sound as if they are not even human….I did not watch the video, I’m sick enough just hearing about it. It’s pathetic and very disturbing. Did these guys even stop to think that could be one of their sisters or daughters one day????!!!!

Eddie   February 10th, 2010 - 5:25 pm

That girl is going to be very rich. Criminal suit against the girl who attacked her. Three civil suits against the, “Security,” guards. And one whopper of a suit against the security contractor.

r2d2   February 10th, 2010 - 5:25 pm

This is the new America under Obama. What do you expect from three union slobs??

Bill   February 10th, 2010 - 5:25 pm

I think they were filming a rap video.

Big Jim   February 10th, 2010 - 5:26 pm

Per the above-published KING-TV report: “According to their contract, the guards are to ‘observe and report’ problems, not to get involved.”

How the @#&! is that “security”? That’s in NO WAY “security.” Those are not “guards.” Call it what it is — “observation detail.” That’s it, that’s all.

All they have done is to foster a *false sense* of security. Better off to have NOBODY there, instead of this useless facade; at least then people might be duly cautious instead of being pacified by these cardboard cutouts.

Splash Pad   February 10th, 2010 - 5:26 pm

In related news security guard goes to jail for ten years for trying to illegally detain an alleged rapist.

astonerii   February 10th, 2010 - 5:26 pm

The security guards would have had to risk losing their jobs if they helped the girl. Any one standing around watching this would have seen the security guards and assumed that if they stepped in to help that they would be interfering with the security guards. By the time anyone had figured out that the security guards were not going to do anything, it was pretty much over and there was nothing to be done, unless you wanted to try to prevent the attackers from leaving the scene. Seems to me that the actual fact of having observation only security guards ensured that this crime was not going to be avoided once it was initiated.

Austin Milbarge   February 10th, 2010 - 5:27 pm

This poor girl should have been more prepared for a situation like this. If she would have been carrying some fruit and something shiney, she could have distracted her attacker long enough to get away.

Hardly anarchy. This type of situation arises when the state has a monopoly on force and expects, treats and creates people as helpless sheeple. Exactly the opposite of anarchy. Which btw just means absence of rulers. It doesn’t mean there aren’t any rules.

student1776   February 10th, 2010 - 5:31 pm

Without doubt this is at the feet of the trial lawyers association. Without doubt the guards all know that if they get involved they will end up being sued by the criminal. The trial lawyers are paralyzing everybody from doing the right thing and this girl gets damaged as a result.

Pablo   February 10th, 2010 - 5:31 pm

Lawyers are not at fault here. The gang of thugs are. Utterly despicable.

your mom   February 10th, 2010 - 5:32 pm

animals

paul   February 10th, 2010 - 5:35 pm

If you help the girl, you’ll get sued sometimes.

The question is one of honor. Whether or not you get sued, you still have to live with yourself.

This is common with Americans: ‘We pay the security guards to do that, I am indignant that they did nothing.’ But the problem is usually even the bystanders don’t want to take Personal Responsibility. I’ve seen such cowardice often–we’ve got a lot of immorality in America.

I daresay many of the people who were indignant at the ‘guards,’ would not have ponied up and done anything themselves, anyhow.

BobStrebs   February 10th, 2010 - 5:35 pm

To Yourplastic’s quote: “Welcome to anarchy”

Right on point! We of all ages are on our own. What sense of safety and security must have been running through the victim’s mind when she approached the security personnel? That thought is gone forever.
It may have been better for her if she had slugged one of the uniformed zombies. They would surely have taken notice of her then; better arrested than permanent brain damage.

natb1   February 10th, 2010 - 5:35 pm

This is a cultural expression. Interfering would have violated the civil rights of that society. We dont recognize individual rights. Its whats best for the group as a whole that counts.

Steve   February 10th, 2010 - 5:36 pm

If the guards were white, sharpton would be bussing the action network up there screaming racism

tim   February 10th, 2010 - 5:36 pm

The guards and the Metro should be prosecuted along with the attacker. The metro is a government agency and as
a government agency its primary responibility is the safety and well being of the public.

Zarachi   February 10th, 2010 - 5:36 pm

So many opinions by so many of us in hindsight. Can we really judge so harshly these acts of callow youths and scared guards? What was done to inhibit the beneficial development of these children into the cruel and violent things you’ve seen today? What was it that a security company lacked in power and training for intervention in these actions? We must hold ourselves to a higher standard if our society is to be held to a higher standard. The law needs revision to protect society’s protectors from litigation so they can do their jobs. Our culture needs a new direction for our successive generations to develop with purpose. Current psychological research indicates that people have less chance of recieving assistance in an emergency, the more people are around to diffuse the responsibility. Why should I stick my neck out, there are like a hundred people here, surely one of them…? People are just wired this way. Those guards could not intervene, not legally, they weren’t hired or were payed to. They could do nothing legally to assist the victim. Intervention would violate their contracts purview, placing them at risk for litigation, and even criminal charges. If our people make this a political issue, rather than a legal one for the Courts, then nothing will happen. Legal experts must collaborate their efforts to revise several standing laws that limit the powers of protectors. This issue must reach the Supreme Court and reach a national/Federal ruling.

The main attacker is guilty of pre-meditated and aggravated assault.
The purse-snatcher is guilty of theft.
The other dozen or so are guilty of a pre-meditated criminal conspiracy against the victim, as such, I may be mistaken, but that may mean charging the entire group with the assault and theft charges.
The security company and bystanders maybe liable for litigation, i. e. negligence on the part of the guards, but as their contract gives them no intervention power they aren’t really liable, so the case would be dismissed by a judge. The state however maybe liable for providing inadequate security for the tunnel and therefore guilty of negligence. The victim could get a nice settlement for that, but the state litigators wouldn’t easily lose that case.

We need to fix the culture and environment our children are growing up in, and we need adequate security for public works, not payed bystanders with walkie-talkies.

Tony   February 10th, 2010 - 5:36 pm

“The only thing required for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.” Anybody who stood by and was able to help should have. Morally, you have the obligation. Legally, you are protected by Good Samaritan legislation. Furthermore, you may be liable if you stand by and do nothing. At the high school at which I teach we intervene and put an end to any fight. Fights are rare because we prosecute the offenders, and put a quick and sometimes painful end to the foolishness.

reginaldL   February 10th, 2010 - 5:37 pm

If Seattle has no Good Samaritan Law or such to protect people providing assistance from subsequent lawsuits then the VOTING people of Seattle deserve the BS and anarchy that have descended on them. And “observe and report” security? Whoever ok’d that contract should be banned from further public service if not impeached for stupidity.

I’m glad the victim survived.

This disgusting and alarming episode of violence is indicative of the lawlessness that is increasing within the socialist controlled cities where the city leaders are only concerned about re-election and federal monies to fund their failed policies and salaries…..

Simple.
1. Guards get fired immediately and names exposed for the cowards they are.
2. City and security firm each get sued and made to pay millions of dollars in restitution.
3. Seattle police quickly identify and apprehend and arrest thugs and have them locked for years with their faces shown in newspapers and TVs to show other thugs what happens.
Simple.

The biggest problem is that NO ONE DID ANYTHING! All those people there, and they ALL just watched.
Get in there and stop it! Plenty of adults there… do something.
It makes me sick. All of you. Blame yourselves for being useless.
Even the woman in the interview who witnessed the scene. Glad you can talk about what you saw, but you also did nothing. Thanks for being useless and dispicable.. Im sorry poor girl that got stomped. I hope you recover well, i really do. And dont let this break you. Be strong.

The worse aspect of this attack from a societal view is the total disregard for the authority figures (security guards???) who were given no authority to maintain security. Only a fool would assign responsibility to a job without granting the corresponding authority to do what is necessary to be effective in that position. This is also why government is inefficient because it separates authority and responsibility for CYA reasons.

greg   February 10th, 2010 - 5:47 pm

Fire the Security firm and demand all payments made previously to them as they did not provide security. Charge the three “guards” as accomplices after the fact. If some a..wipe lawyer wrote a do not intervene policy then find ten volunteers to show the a..wipe lawyer what an attack without intervention can do.

Joe P.   February 10th, 2010 - 5:47 pm

Having worked as a security guard (2nd job), the article is absolutely correct. They have no law enforcement powers and are under strict orders to “observe and report.” Getting involved would have exposed them personally and their agency to lawsuits by the scum committing the assault.

NOQTR4TR8RS   February 10th, 2010 - 5:47 pm

Axeman   February 10th, 2010 - 5:49 pm

I cannot believe the absolute ‘wusses’ here that are defending these guards in any respect. I guess most of them live in Seattle….a city absolutely infiltrated with liberals who have no morals or guts. The three guards need to be crucified…..nothing less. The punks who robbed and mugged and beat this poor girl all should go to jail (and have vasectomies and tubal ligations so they cannot ever pollute the gene pool); and the transit authority in that city should be held responsible and sued to the max by the young girls’ family (if she has one).

Thank the gods I live in a state that allows me to carry firearm wherever I wish to….and trust me on this folks,….if I had been on that subway platform that evening, every punk there would be TU (Tango Uniform-Toes UP), even the little biatch that started it all. People like that do not deserve a life on this fragile planet….and the more of them I can take out before I go TU is a good thing. Plus, I would have made sure those sorry “security guards” would have gone down too….”Uhhh, officer, they got in the way…..jumped into the crossfire….sorry”. Bast ards, all of them. Sure makes the affrikun amerikun race look REAL good to the rest of the world. Animals. Not, not even animals. Pond scum.

sistaelle   February 10th, 2010 - 5:49 pm

Doesn’t Seattle or WA have a “good samaritan law” that protects one from being prosecuted if someone is hurt that you’re trying to help?
Metro’s security has always been insufficient. They do not empower their employees to act when necessary.

Rasism   February 10th, 2010 - 5:57 pm

I am appalled by the racist comments on these boards. The issue is that the guards did not intervene when any decent person would have done so, regardless of contract language.

For all of you who are so quick to point out the color of the victim and attackers’ skin, I would point out that there are plenty of examples of white teens beating each other (see one example here: http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/24009077/ ). We should be analyzing this in terms of what actually happened, not the skin color.

And not that it should matter, but given the ignorgance of this board it probably does, I’m white.

Ken   February 10th, 2010 - 6:00 pm

Um… this is the world we’ve created. Police officers are not even responsible for your safety, why would a $6.50 an hour rent-a-cop get involved?

And you want to take away my right to defend myself?

I’m saddened that it happened but where’s your Kool-Aid? This happens all the time in the malls, schools, playgrounds, etc.

Harry   February 10th, 2010 - 6:01 pm

Peter is right. In Obama’s America, terrorists get read their Miranda rights, Seals go on trial for capturing and “injuring” a terrorist, and three adult male security guards stand by and watch a poor girl being beaten senseless.

tyrone   February 10th, 2010 - 6:05 pm

It doesn’t look like a random gang beating, one girl attacked another, and the girl who got beat down appeared to know it was coming. I am not condoning violence, just curious about what she did or said leading up to this – I would like to axe them for more information. That being written, I am surprised that they are all black, and that the “guards” appear to be black too. Blacks are peaceful, honorable, and kind hearted people that avoid violence, and try to help others – especially when they are in groups.

Mick   February 10th, 2010 - 6:05 pm

I am a Metro driver and I’m here to tell you that King County Metro has once again shown themselves to be utterly clueless when it comes to security, either on the buses or at their facilities. The county is in a huge financial hole yet it is building new libraries, remodeling Metro facilities, yet still only has something 45 full time transit police officers for the third largest transit system on the west coast, a system so large that it has 2600 full and part time drivers. Personal experience has shown me that Metro shows itself to be more concerned about the threat of litigation and less about driver and passenger security. My union, ATU local 587, should immediately demand that uniformed police officers be stationed throughout the Metro Transit Tunnel or threaten Metro with a driver/train operator strike.

Yeah, uh huh. That's right.   February 10th, 2010 - 6:06 pm

What are those three useless “men” “securing”??????????????

Sourpuss   February 10th, 2010 - 6:07 pm

Remember…”When seconds count the Police are only minutes away”. That’s why I fully support Carrying Concealed laws and YOU SHOULD TOO. These security guards are told to “Observe and Report”. That is their legal obligation for doing their jobs. If you want people that will get involved then pay higher taxes and get real Police out there to do the work.

Mark   February 10th, 2010 - 6:15 pm

About 2 weeks ago, my 12yr old son and I were in DC as tourists. We saw a fight in Chinatown metro station, it ended w/about 10 guys beating/kicking one guy, I tried to break it up when it turned 10 to 1, without getting physical, I did manage to distract a couple of the kids but not much. I told my son I couldn’t just stand there and watch even though it was dangerous. Those “guards” should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. No excuse, they’re human beings before anything else.

Guards are losers   February 10th, 2010 - 6:17 pm

Amazing! At least three security guards posted statements here defending these three cowardly “security guards”.
“They could have lost their jobs or been sued if they stepped in”. What kind of a p*&ssy is going to watch a
girl get beaten senseless and possibly killed, because they don’t want to risk their job? If your job is more
important than a childs life, you should do society a favor and jump off a bridge…losers.

medic201   February 10th, 2010 - 6:21 pm

Remember when the loss prevention employee from wal-mart pursued someone who had stolen
electronic equipment, when the perp fired gunshots his way, his pursuit of the perp
led to the perps aprehension. The next day a wal-mart corporate rep was there to fire
the person who really did something to “right the wrong”. Guaranteed, these three
would have been fired for doing something. Workers comp studies have shown that
the average comp claim costs a company $64,000. If one of the guards was injured
and had to file a claim, he would have been fired for sure. As another said,
Seattle gets what they pay for, minimum wage security, what should happen, is that
Seattle gets sued for negligence for not providing some port authority police
patrols at the site.

Sparkle Plenty   February 10th, 2010 - 6:29 pm

Chucky Cheese1 is right on target. There is a long list of distinguished black leaders in this country. Seldom are they revered in the black community. Also, today there are intelligent, compassionate, moral black people. Lots, if not most of black Americans are hard working, law abiding good people. So please people, stop it with the racist comments.

Unfortunately, today gansta pop culture, the foul mouthed rappers, and the bad boy star athletes seem to be the role models for black urban youth. Additionally, the self appointed “leaders” of the black community (Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton) do more harm than good by making excuses for such kind of behavior rather than condemning it. Worse than Jesse and Al is old Louie Farakhan. Why the black community stands for this kind of leadership and role models is beyond understanding when there are outstanding black leaders, as Chuck Cheese 1 cited.

There is no excuse for this kind of savage behavior, no matter the color, the age or the economic class of the criminals. Poor doesn’t equate to savage. I lived in south central as a child and my parents were poor, honest people who taught me right from wrong and made sure I did well in school.

I feel so sorry for the young victim, who obviously approached the security guards for protection and help. She is a young black girl and doing nothing wrong. I hope her parents sue the heck out of the criminals and their families, as well as the city, which insisted on this crazy security system. I also hope the criminals are punished severely by the judicial system and even more severely by their parents. Why do I believe this will never happen.

Quite typical that the ‘witness’ wondered why no one stepped in to help. What about her? This is the SOP for liberals, it is always other people’s money, other people’s job, other people’s responsibility, etc. Typical cop-out mentality from the perpetual victim side of things.

The fact that no ordinary passer-by nor any of the “security” (regardless of any kind of contract or description of job duties) did anything definitely shows a decline in the morality of our society. I imagine if anyone did step in to help the poor girl they would have met some kind of legal prosecution by trial lawyer vermin, or at least I am sure that is what they were thinking, and they were probably correct. People hear the stories of the degradation of our justice system when the homeowner gets sued by the intruder when they try to defend thier home and property, and as a result are afraid to do the moral thing. Don’t be angry at the security guards or passer-bys for not doing anything, be angry at the lawyer scum (not saying all lawyers are bad) who cause fear of legal action for doing the right thing.

This is what you get when criminal ideology is emboldened by the full knowledge that society is weak and disarmed.

Where I come from, there would’ve been three grown men pinning those punks to the ground until cops showed up and about 10 guys who were carrying concealed (legally) would have them at gunpoint until the cops showed up.

…more importantly, every thug where I come from knows that…so the odds of them even TRYING to attack that girl in a public place are much, much, MUCH lower.

You move to a liberal, pacifist, idiot-riddled PC area…and this is what you get.

Did you know that the girls that work at the 9th Circuit Courthouse in San Francisco get escorted while walking from the courthouse steps to the Market Street transportation hub by armed US Marshalls? Typical Leftists. The rules are just for the little people–us! You wont hear about that in the Chronical.

“More Guns Less Crime” — book written by Economist/Lawyer.. John Lott?

Dear: Rexter Feb 10 2010 4:56 “…yet there is little crime in Europe..”

1. In England when homeowners were banned from having guns for home defense 9 yr ago – home invasion burglaries shot up 50%; same in Australia
2. Homicide rates in U.S. for whites is only little higher as the rate in Europe 2.5-3/100K;
3. Sadly, for U.S. blacks rates is about 800% higher 18/100K; as are other violent crimes (gangs, etc)
3. But when people have the right to protect themselves, the crime goes down. Bad guys like easy pickings..
4. When someone finds a cure for violent crime let me know! Look up about the young couple in Kentucky 2 yrs ago, Knoxville I think.
5. Meantime I don’t want to be that girl – or worse

avagrace   February 10th, 2010 - 8:27 pm

Thank you ChuckyCheese1! It is a cultural and a liberalism issue. It is not, as someone suggested above, “hard-wired” into blacks. I am black and I find this behavior disgusting. Neither I, nor any of my family members, or any of the black people I know behave anywhere near close to this. This behavior comes, as you wrote above, from ignorant people who think behaving civilly, getting educated, and speaking standard English is “white”. Liberalism has told them they are not responsible for any of their failures or bad behaviors, so there is no incentive for them to change that behavior. There are ignorant people in every ethnicity, but blacks have been especially targeted by liberals (esp since the 60’s), because we were the largest minority and made the most noise (legitimately due to racism back then), thus making it easier for them to gain power. The more they can turn blacks and others against conservatism and traditional values & behaviors, the more power they gain. So called black leaders assist by constantly reinforcing the idea that blacks are constantly under siege by racist whites.

Randy   February 10th, 2010 - 8:30 pm

Didn’t something like this happen a few months ago in Chicago when a group of “students” in the 27th grade killed a black honor student with a bunch of worthless gawkers standing idly by taking movies with their cell phones? Our country is dead. Finished.

phlogiston   February 10th, 2010 - 8:32 pm

This would be a good opportunity for people such as Professor Gates, the Harvard “Black Studies” man, who got involved in a fracas with the “stupid” cop (stupid according to Pres. Obama), and then met with the President and the Sergeant and superficially reconciled their differences, to appear on the scene with several of his expert colleagues in the same profession, and do remedial work to “help” the black community.

Professor Gates carries a chip on his shoulder against “the authorities,” “the man,” because of what “society” does “to keep blacks down.” It seems that society does not need to do anything “to keep blacks down” as they are doing a job on themselves.

In a community with pervasive indigency and criminality, and with values that discourage education as consorting with the enemy, “acting white,” it is time that they identify their enemy as their own shortcomings. What can Professor Gates do to change behavior in the black community. It seems as if focus by blacks upon “grievances” against the rest of society may be misdirected ire. Concentrating on dysfunction within the black community might just be a more provident use of resources. Come on Professor Gates and President Obama (who functioned as a “community organizer and agitator – Bullhorn Barack) just what can you folks do as “physicians” to heal your own community.

What a worthless trio of (supposed) security. All three individuals should be fired for ineptness in failing to restrain a 15-yr old girl, policy or not. The city likewise should cancel all dealings with such a pathetic company and contract with one that guarantees trained and competent enforcers. There’s no shortage of skilled people looking for a job these days. I am disturbed by the apathy shown during such a disturbing and violent incident. Shame on you SEATTLE!

Steven Gomez   February 10th, 2010 - 8:44 pm

If the guards aren’t going to do anything when they see violent crime, they why not save money on personnel and just install closed circuit cameras along the walls instead? It would have been just as useful here. Or maybe the public would have intervened and possibly prevented the robbery. As it stands, other riders just stood there, probably thinking the security guards would do something (which they didn’t).

I’m a retired Oakland Police Officer and I’m a little dismayed at the racism and backlash against the security officers that is occurring on this site. While I agree it would have been prudent for the officers to try and put themselves between the attacker and the victim to prevent any injury, it would have been foolish (and probably suicidal) for them to try and confront the gang directly.

As for their inaction clause in their contract it’s a sad reality of life in America today due to the unethical and predatory nature of trial lawyers and the inevitable fallout their vile practices force on corporations and governments. But this has been going on for a very long time and isn’t a new thing to those of us on the front lines in urban America.

Back in the 80’s and 90s when I was on the streets in Oakland, I had several (4 or 5 come to mind) incidents similar to this that occurred involving the Oakland Fire department, and a similar non-action clause in their contract with the city. The most extreme example would be when I was trying to make an arrest on one man and his mother called an ambulance and tried to fake a heart attack to try and get me to somehow not make the arrest.

When the man’s brother saw that wasn’t going to work, he jumped me and both he and his brother viciously attacked me in the street. At one point I was being choked and they slammed me into the grill of the fire engine that had responded, yet all 5 men from the engine stood and watched without taking any action to assist me as these two thugs tried to kill me.

I was forced to use some serious force and sent the brother to the hospital in the end and ended up arresting both men, but I was utterly flabbergasted that not one fireman lifted a finger to help. After I finished the paperwork and put the two men in jail, I went straight to the firehouse and had a heart to heart with the men from the engine.

Needless to say, I was livid, but after discussing it with them, I realized that they had been broken by the corrupt Oakland government and the constant droning they received from those in authority positions that they better not get involved EVER in a physical confrontation or they would be fired on the spot. I guess you could say they were apathetic.

Sure they’d run into a burning building crumbling around them, so they weren’t cowards, it was just the blasted city lawyers had actually put them in fear of their livelihood, so they had made the decision long before that day to resist the urge to ever get involved in any kind of violent confrontation.

It was so bad that a fire engine even stood by once as a victim ran around their engine several times as a man chased him down and murdered him. Again not a finger was lifted to help. It’s weird I know, and hard to explain, they weren’t cowards, they had just been indoctrinated to the notion of not doing anything long beforehand, so they didn’t do anything when things inevitably occurred later.

So what happened in the video here is nothing new, it’s just a symptom of the corrupt trial lawyers and how they’ve destroyed “justice” in America. Until they are run out of town, this kind of travesty will never stop happening in America.

Enraged soccer mom   February 10th, 2010 - 9:14 pm

I worked security years back and while its true that you are hired only to ‘observe and report’, I can’t imagine any decent self-respecting person who would stand by and watch this.
this kind of scenario used to get discussed a lot, our trainers would tell us that we would NOT be supported by the company of we stepped in as that was not what we were hired for. It’s different if you work armed.
Ironically, I had a friend fired from a site because he didn’t stop a Police Officer who entered the building in pursuit of a manager who’d fled the scene of a hit and run. He’d have gone to jail if he’d tried to stop the officer, but they didn’t care.
Instances like this you have to go with your conscience. Regardless of your contract.

Monkey Training!

1. Get the public acclimated to seeing violence and brutality via TV, movies,
and, video games. When violent act strikes, docile males will in
fact act against their altruistic nature become: Impartial, spectate and/or in many
circumstances take part in the aggression by facilitating the aggressor.

2. Employers even go as far as to threaten the employees by docking their pay,
Job loss and/or Inform them that they will be legally responsible for any harm that
is done to the AGGRESSOR!!! (and the court system is so corrupt they will in fact
find him accountable for any and all damage done to the
aggressor!!! Look at Police Officers they NO LONGER Serve and Protect! They have become Traffic Officers.

3. While the docile public sees security/police(which are put there ONLY to make the
public FEEL secure) NOT stopping or prevent violent crimes (the employers are so brazen to
admit their the policy IS to ONLY observe and report!) the public will BEG for MORE laws
cameras, body scanners, security check points, gun carrying security, (while they
incrementally take away our 2nd amendment rights)”Civil Security Force” AKA “OPERATION TIPS” (imagine a million government funded spying neighbors.)

4. Which is then used to IN SLAVE us. Its a brave new world folks.

Tyranny is not thrust upon a nation it IS always welcomed in the beginning.

And imagine if the guards had intervened. Ten teens jump 3 guys, and I don’t care how careful the guards are or how well they’re trained, someone is getting hurt. Next thing you know 20 moms and dads are suing ’cause their precious little angels got a bump or bruise from a security guard. Then ya’ll would knee jerk and spew your outrage against the guards for helping.

Of course they could have given her some medical attention after she had gone down. Then the parents get to sue because something they did wasn’t just perfect.

You can tell the one guy wants to intervene, but all he can do is call for help on the radio. The guards were smart to abide by the contract- that way they don’t get fired. If they do something outside the contract, their company is liable, and they’re fired. Stand back and observe and report, do what they’re told, and the company is legally in the right and they keep their jobs. It sucks, I agree, but that’s the way it is.

With the litigious society we have today, there really aren’t any winners in a situation like this, except for the gangs.

Wayne J. Barricklow   February 10th, 2010 - 9:37 pm

Of course the guards aren’t helping. If they get involved, beyond what the contract tells them to do, the ten teens are going to jump them. Someone is getting hurt in a situation like that, then you have 20 moms and dads each suing because their precious little Johnny got hurt by the big, bad security guard. The company gets sued for operating outside their contract, the guards lose their jobs, because they weren’t doing their jobs- observe and report. Hell, the company would lose their contract with the city and all the guards would be fired.

The guards did the smart thing. I would have gotten myself fired. And of course you all would have been asking for my “execution” or to put my face on the news because I beat up some kid.

The civil rights movement was never about equality, or rights, it was about domination. The rednecks of the 1930’s fighting to keep blacks down, knew something that we don’t. The blacks, given the opportunity, will multiply out of control, destroy our society, and eventually enslave us. all the while citing equality, “give us our fair shake”, peace and brotherhood, when that happens we’ll say, “give us our rights back!” and they’ll say, “you dumb MO@#er%^cker! You aint gettin SHI@!!”

Blacks are victims of their own genetics. Violence, lack of empathy for others, and the pack hunting behavior, are the hallmarks of tribal life in Africa. Other things like their fear of water, low IQ, taste for certain foods, and the universal tendancy to cut the english language down to 50 or 60 words is an example of the real differences between our races. I’m not trying to be racist, i’m just trying to
make a real statemnt without being shouted down for Taboo speak.

White people need to hear this and tell themselves that What happened on this video will get more and more frequent. Soon it will be whites on the street getting beaten to death by blacks….oh wait, Jena 6…..central park jogger(raped white woman), pizza shop patron savagely beaten by huge black boyfriend for “dissin” his woman, Bernard Geotz subway shooting, white 7th grader beaten by black kids for wanting to sit down on bus (driver does nothing), Kanye West takes microphone from little Taylor Swift, etc, etc., etc.!

Think I’m exaggerating, look around for yourself!

We have to stop this descent into foolish oblivion! Blacks are going to ruin our country like they ruin every single place that they live in and/or are in-charge of. Stopping this socialist upswell is a good start.

Those security guards did the right thing. They work for a private company that is not tasked with public safety, no need for them to risk a lawsuit against the company they work for.

Maybe the City should hire more Police.

Ted in Japan   February 10th, 2010 - 10:02 pm

If anyone wants to get an idea of just how totally useless blue-helmeted UN peace keeping forces are, all they have to do is watch this video. These UN and Seattle “security” forces are twin products of the exact same Leftist thinking. They are not interested in fighting evil. They are interested in fighting those who fight evil.

But imagine the national outcry from liberals if that girl had been attacked by a gang of white kids or if those security guards had been white. Anything that perpetuates the blacks-are-victims-of-whites template gets spotlighted; anything that squelches it gets ignored.

Man were those “guards” tough or what? I bet there are like 2&3 yr old girls everywhere that would feel safe when there on duty…

Dave 2010   February 11th, 2010 - 12:15 am

When Normal Stamper was chief of police he maintained a similar policy that allowed his cops to stand by while a young man lost his life.

The teenager came to the rescue of another individual who was being assaulted. The attacker then turned his rage on the young man and after beating him to a pulp he took a cheap shot while the kid was nearly on his knees and his head bent over – and kicked him squarely in the face with all his might. The whip lash on his neck was enough to kill him, as it turned out he died from brain injury.

Cops watched on as all this took place. They were armed but would not attempt to wade into the crowd of onlookers to save the young man’s life.

Then there was the WTO protests when rioters looted and vandalized part of the town down area. Anarchists where on the loose because no body cared enough to keep the peace and order.

The liberal policies of Seattle’s elite and their politics were on display that night and they persist to this day.

How’s that saying go…The only thing required to allow evil people to succeed is for good people to do nothing.

I’ll give the security guards a little latitude, they were not trained to respond, they were not allowed to respond, they might looose their jobs if they responded, they couldn’t think properly and perhaps they couldn’t understand how badly the girl was being hurt because it all took place to quickly….perhaps.

As for the fools in government that allowed this insanity in the first place? The saying demands that good people need to do something so it follows that the people in charge are absolutely No Good. We assume they have brains and are trained, apparently we need to stop giving them the benefit of the doubt.

I do hope that many of the despicable comments here are from liberal trolls (not a stretch) and not from the GOP (the abolition party).

You wrote:

“and I did not know why it takes having a badge to step up and do something, not even a man who doesn’t have a real one could not even step up to help a woman being beaten by gang kids”

I hate to add to your disquiet, but the cold hard truth is statistics pure and simple. The people in charge (usually lawyers) look at the numbers and make their decisions based on what ‘statistically’ is cheapest for the city.

If paying off an occasional grieving family once in a while is cheaper than paying off dozens of gang members families every single month due to all the confrontations that would occur if non-trained personnel were allowed to step in as a part of city policy, then the city opts to sacrifice an occasional victim in the interest of the all mighty dollar figure. So they make it policy that no one except properly trained personnel are allowed to put their hands on anyone, and they then fire anyone who tries to do the right thing.

That’s why a lot of people leave large cities and move to the suburbs. Statistically speaking not a lot of violent confrontations occur in smaller communities so you still see firemen, security officers, etc. stepping in when needed in those communities because the liability factor hasn’t bankrupted the governments yet. But in big cities, forget it, the amount of money a city pays out to liability claims each year means moral behavior gets thrown right out the window and public safety takes it on the nose every time.

Of course you’ll never get a politician to admit this, but it’s the truth trust me. But in the end, it’s all due to the trial lawyers and their predatory ways. Without them, court settlements would be far more reasonable and cities and corporations wouldn’t go bankrupt paying off the families of dirtbags.

Taking necessary action within one’s power to protect life trumps any policy or law of man to not act otherwise! Considering the blows to the head and neck, the girl is lucky to be alive. What will become of this? Authorities will likely exploit this situation to impose more police state measures that sacrifice our freedom – that’s the pattern, and ultimately why such incidents are allowed to happen nowadays … so they can be reported to provoke reaction (problem, reaction, solution) … like flight 253 bomber without a passport intentionally escorted onto plane by intelligence officer for the ostensible purpose of nece$$itating scanners … a subtle subversion of society by fear and intimidation until “learned helplessness” causes us to relinquish rights in demand for more safety and security until we see our aspiring autocratic adversaries as protectors rather than tyrants … yes, you will learn to love your servitude. To all of you making political comments or making this a racial issue, please have the decency to remain in the neighborhood of this topic and not use this tragedy as a platform to express your hatred for minorities. Ignorance of history is the only reason someone would post such vitriol as to blame racial genetics for these violent acts, while at the same time forgetting the scope and magnitude of the murderous atrocities committed by your own race throughout history in the name of your Gods, your money and your empires. You imbecilic fools are just as much of a problem as these thugs with that racist mentality.

As far as the partisan comments and the political mudslinging (it’s Obama’s fault, liberals are to blame, etc.) that serves no purpose whatsoever. It you were smart enough to realize the false paradigm that is represented by the two-party system, then you would not post such ignorant drivel. That your minds are so enslaved that you cannot see the readily apparent truth is a testament to how well your masters have you under their control. Sleep on.

Can we consider instead what must be done to prevent such occurrences from happening in the future? Finding solutions is what makes us thinking, rational beings. Being compassionate shows our humanity. All I see when reading the hateful comments is a different version of the mindset that these savage attackers have. All of you who think that way are a part of the problem yourselves and it would serve you well to reconsider who you are and what sort of person you are allowing yourself to become as the poison of hatred festers in your soul and slowly destroys your humanity and your willful ignorance of the true forces at work in this world keeps you stumbling blindly through your unexamined life.

On topic, I am a licensed gun-owner. I’m not sure if Washington state has reciprocity with my home state, but if it does and I had been there, this would have been an different scenario entirely. Not bravado talking, just fact. It is the moral duty of the strong to protect the weak and the innocent. Period.

I wish the victim a speedy and safe recovery in body, mind and spirit. Hopefully, she will not allow this violent incident to leave scars on her soul long after her body has healed.

Rob   February 11th, 2010 - 9:06 am

Do not blame these security guards. Blame the attackers and the liberal lawyers who would go after these guards.

melodylee   February 11th, 2010 - 1:02 pm

This is so crazy, the root of the problem is children who are not getting the proper message AT HOME FROM THEIR PARENTS. You will see the worst examples of parenting gone wrong on Judge Judy every day. Grown women with children in tow will fight in the street over a man or some other BS and think nothing of it, it’s just a normal every day event to them. Their children grow up thinking this is OK, and the cycle continues. They then expect the court system to award them money for engaging in bad behavior, deferred gratification is a foreign concept to them, they think the only way to solve a problem is through violence. Sure the guards stood by, they have seen this a hundred times before. It may be against their policy to interfere. This is terrible but I’d do the same thing, I’m not going to go broke because of a hospital bill I can’t pay because this group of savages decides I need to be stomped in the head for interfering. Parents need to teach their children the concept of personal responsibility. I bet you a million dollars the parents of the kids who did this will say some BS like, “Oh dey was jus bein’ kids” etc. This country is doomed.

Alfred   February 11th, 2010 - 2:46 pm

WE HAVE LOST COMMON SENSE. The security guards are not to get involved… when they see a shoot out, stabings or very violent assaults, since they have no training or weapons. BUY, when you see a teenager girl being stomped on the head by a 90 lb girls, hell yes push the other girl away and call the police.

Greg Zotta   February 11th, 2010 - 4:00 pm

Bobby said, I think it’s funny how people wanna hangs the security guards yet they did what they are suppose to do. Most of you wouldn’t do anything anyway. Teent said,You gotta think before you act people. sometimes the right thing to do can’t always be done.Others are making excuses and saying not to blame the guards. That is what is wrong today in Obamanation. The President does not commit to anything so he can’t be blamed for it. He shows weakness to the world, which endangers us. Some people are afraid to commit, but I believe you should do the “Right” thing all of the time. Like I said, how can you call yourself a “security guard” and let an incident like this happen without taking action. How can you look at yourself in the mirror? What happened to chivalry? These guards are insensitive cowards and are despicable.

A Canadian   February 11th, 2010 - 5:00 pm

This is an absolute perfect example of Americans being completely inconsiderate, heartless wastes of skin. Have you ever noticed that 90% of the crime you’s face everyday is your own damn faults. Maybe if you stopped tryin to win the ” Chinese Lottery” (A Lawsuit), and went back to being civilized human beings with FEELINGS, then you can blame others. Come on up to the north you three cowards and ill personally kick some sense into your heads.
From A Real Canadian

Steve   February 11th, 2010 - 6:52 pm

I see people pointing out that the security guards were instructed “not to intervenbe”. Like this should make a difference. The natural rights of humankind come along with natural duties. These are part of being human, and trupm man-written contracts and even man-made laws every time. Coming to the aid of an innocent victim is a no-brainer. You don’t read your contract, or consult a lawbook, or figure out if responding is “above your pay grade”. You just do it. If you are human, that is. These guards may have been something else.

“I was following orders” was attempted as justification at the Nuremberg (sp?) tials of Nazi war criminals. That defense was disallowed, as it should have been. Failing to act in these circumstaces may be explainable, but it can never be justified.

-Steve

horacewayne   February 11th, 2010 - 8:15 pm

All you TEXANS talking s@#$ like you would do something are a joke-you can’t even protect the soldiers on an Army base!!

Simon   February 11th, 2010 - 8:55 pm

This isn’t about the security guard’s responsibilities as security guards – it’s about their humanity – and the humanity of all the other people around at the time. I would have stepped in if I was there – I can guarantee it.

Horrifying – just horrifying.

Drano   February 11th, 2010 - 10:13 pm

Most posters here seem to have missed the point that these were not security guards – they were hired to “observe and report” which is what they did.

What they have observed and reported is the degeneration of that segment of our population to the point they can no longer be considered civilized. If any of you of similar persuasion wonder why whites don’t want to live in mixed race neighborhoods, you have only to watch this video. It’s not the color, it is the behavior.

PhilipNolan   February 11th, 2010 - 11:23 pm

I guess no one should be surprised, but the majority of the outrage is directed, not at the attackers, but at the security guards. People are calling for the security guards to be fired, jailed, even executed. Maybe if some of that anger and the calls for punishment were directed at the attackers these kinds of things wouldn’t happen.
Of course, the media will never follow up on this story, but I am willing to bet dollars to donuts that none of the attackers is effectively punished for this outrage.
I think I have to agree with an earlier post that this is what we, as a society, have devolved to. I am glad I am old enough that I will be dead when this country reaps what it has sown.

Calvin&Hobbes   February 12th, 2010 - 12:11 am

These are not “Security Guards”.

These are “Observers and Reporters”.

They are the new wave of “Saved or Created” Obama jobs which we’ll be seeing more of in the very near future.

This happens to be one of the newly “Created” type of jobs… “Observe and Report”.

I would like to see the “Report” that was handed in on this “Observed” incident.

I’ll bet the conclusion in the report might go a little like this:
“The girl on the ground had it coming to her and this never would have happened had she had not been there in the first place…”

eor   February 12th, 2010 - 12:13 am

Two questions. What are these guards supposed to be doing? Why does it take three of them.

DotheRightThing   February 12th, 2010 - 12:24 am

Note to the people who have posted here defending the security guards’ failing to protect the lone girl against a vicious, potentially fatal attack: A GIRL’S LIFE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN A JOB! “I was only following orders” was not a valid defense at Nuremberg and is one of the most morally reprehensible stances imaginable. Get a spine transplant or GROW A CONSCIENCE, for God’s sake! If you were the one being kicked in the head, I imagine you would hope someone (a security guard perhaps) would have the decency to protect your life.

hempstead1944   February 12th, 2010 - 8:11 am

Firing a few worthless guards is not going to change anything. The problem is NOT the guards, people, it is the culture that promotes this behavior. Welcome to the Obama America!

EZ Bake   February 12th, 2010 - 10:51 am

I love how the lady is griping the whole time about why these security guards didn’t do anything and she keeps acting like it was more their job to do anything than hers or the other passengers that she said “were watching and expecting the guards to do something”.

Citizens have a responsibility to jump in and take care of their fellow citizen – the problem is that people like this lady get a wild hair because they failed to understand their own responsibility and that of the security guards’.

I bet if she could, she’d use civil litigation to help affect a change she wants to see happen – and that is exactly why security guards have a policy of “Observe and Report” – civil liability cover.

This idiot lady whose doing the complaining is what’s wrong with the system – and she could have jumped in just the same as those guards – it was just as much her (and the other passengers’) duty to jump in just as much as it was that of the security guards.

Wow, and yet we wonder why our kids can get away with murder these days. I’m sure the kind of behavior we have from the youth, the witnesses, and the security guards are giving other countries wonderful pictures of the American dream. There is no value to human life, other than our own. As long as everyone in this country carries a “Me” only attitude, how can we possibly coexist?

I can’t spend a lot of time on the web. Does anyone know how the victim is doing?

matt   February 12th, 2010 - 7:39 pm

just another example how we are raising men who no moral compass.

KS Maxin   February 12th, 2010 - 8:38 pm

Putting people in bright outfits and writing “SECURITY” on them gives others around them the impression they will help.

If they are just observers, then their vests should read, “OBSERVER” NOT security!

And above all else, if they and the people they work for really, REALLY are the types to stand by while anyone is getting beat up – then shame on them for even being human.

Wow. Just flippin’ Wow!

Dave   February 12th, 2010 - 9:23 pm

This all comes down to one thing money the contract states observer and report if you want more then you pay more and you get more training and better insurance coverage for the liability of the guards getting hands on. If the guard gets involved and gets his ass kicked then he claims workers comp and may even sue. The guard breaks it up and in the process someone gets hurt who pays the tab? the tax payers will pay higher taxes and higher bus fare. It is all about the money. A security guard who makes $8.00 an hour is not going to give a rats ass what happens if its not his job to do anything why expect anything?

Hey Wut   February 13th, 2010 - 5:27 am

That ugly b!tch that jumped her should be glad she didn’t get her as$ beat. Even though she snuck her she still was gettin her as$ beat until it went to the ground.

The guards are even bigger b!tches than her.

Big Al   February 13th, 2010 - 8:04 am

It appears that the guards were of black race and from what I have learned from working in law enforcement there is a mentality of minding your own business where the hood is concerned. These guards were not going to get on the wrong side of the homies having to work in the same hood and seeing the same people everyday. As callous as this seems, this is the way they think about each other. I am surprised they even called for help on the cell phone! Secondly, they are being paid a low salary, have no powers of arrest, and they will only work the minimum that is required of them. I myself know cops that only want to make a report, and hate to get involved. Society has gone to hell in a hand basket, this is the real world.

Big Al   February 13th, 2010 - 8:16 am

Last but not least, citizens are carrying concealed weapons for protection because one cannot count on somebody helping when a crime is being committed. I being of a law enforcement background also agree that people should be allowed to protect themselves, because the police cannot be everywhere and the everyday average citizen will for the most part only will look out for themselves. I am retired now because I sustained a gun shot while working as a cop in the field. I hate to see what this world has come to!

Big Al   February 13th, 2010 - 8:41 am

lunar366   February 13th, 2010 - 9:58 am

Law suits be damned, they are supposed to be human beings. I would gladly have lost my job to assist that girl, why? because I’m a human being. If I had done what those “security guards” have done, I would never sleep another night until I killed myself over the guilt. What has happened to our civilization? How can anyone stand by and not do something? You can blame it on the libs, you can blame it on the cons, you can blame it on whoever, but what it comes down to is you can only blame yourself. You are the only one responsible for your outcome.

ETA   February 15th, 2010 - 1:38 pm

Olympic, please leave the United States and NEVER come back. You live under the umbrella of freedom fought for and paid for in BLOOD of the mighty men bred in the land of the free and the home of the brave. Your “lawerly” contract language that prevailed while a young girl who came to your people for help…who bore SECURITY on their uniforms was savagely beaten within arms length of three of your people while they did NOTHING …belies the fact you do not deserve to live in the land of the free and the home of the brave. Please take your dickless pussified lawyers with you when you leave our shores. Oh yes…back peddle all you want but, you will never live this down. Why not try Somalia? Liberia? Haiti? Hopefully…while you are setting into you new homeland…YOUR family will be beaten savagely as onlookers do nothing. You are beyond disgust.

Look at the out cry at these two thug females, who torment the rest of us, she got what she deserved. These uppity loud Myates are always causing trouble. The security guards should get a medal.

What said, is the out cry of this board. These thugette gets stomped to the ground. I am happy. All the crimes this one female has done to the rest of us and she gets a taste of her own medicine.

Keep defending criminals Dumb America, and your country is going to burn.

don   February 15th, 2010 - 8:00 pm

I love how all the idiots are screaming for the guards to be fired. If you pay attention to the video there are 12 verses 4, nice odds, on top of that, how many do you think have weapons? They did what they are paid to do, If they did step in there would be 4 people in the hospital, and the security guards would be getting sued by the loving parents of the baby gangbangers. Losing the job isn’t the only thing to worry about. Go ahead and touch a MINOR for any reason and watch what happens. The whole damned bunch of you headhunters need to scream at the parents of the little thugs, and Metro for tying up the guards hands. They are security guards, not bouncers, not cops, thus they dont get paid to do anything but watch and report. I get tired of all of you wanting us to babysit your kids, if you cant take care of them, DONT HAVE THEM!!

Kristine   February 15th, 2010 - 11:16 pm

I am surprised the security guards weren’t eating popcorn as they watched the show. Were they having a donut break? I didn’t see any donuts. Three men could’ve formed a line or protective circle around the victim. My God. Since when do human beings need permission to act like human beings.”My job description doesn’t say I am allowed to use higher level moral reasoning, so I will have a bowel movement in my pants instead and eat donuts”.

Joe Black   February 16th, 2010 - 3:23 am

You see! The low paid Security Guards did their job.Their standing over there only to be blame if something like that hapens and for the insurance purpose. The insurance company does not pay if you do not have Security Guards. That’s the life people observe and report. We doing the same here for free. That is the American way Cheers!!!!!!!!!

ccurtains   February 16th, 2010 - 8:29 am

This is absolutely disgusting! I am a teacher, and fortunately, now I work in a small private school. However, I worked for a public system as a substitute for one year. There was an absolute rule that teachers were not to touch students (UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES) — to do so certainly would mean a lawsuit!! As a result, teachers are forced to standby as students are being pummeled or beaten by another more psychotic student!!! Even worse, I was fired for telling students laziness is not a virtue, and we all must work hard, even when the work is difficult. I also commited the capital crime of verbally responding to a student who threatened to “kick my ass” if I didn’t stop telling her to get off her cell phone in class!! I told her that I weighed 200, and if she kicked me, 200 pounds of force and a size 10 shoe was going to kick her back!! These poor security guards were probably under the same type of rules of non-intervention. This may sound old-school, but when I was a teen (about 25 years ago), most adults would kick your ass if you got out of hand in public!! I believe kids today eat, drink and breathe in a culture of violence!! It’s too bad that the victim didn’t have a weapon!!

Robert   February 18th, 2010 - 3:50 pm

Pathetic. The cop in Macys. The security people. The onlookers (though I suppose they figured that the security people would handle it.) Though it turns out that the girl getting the crap beat out of her has a bit of a thug in her as well. Karma anyone?

cubflyer50   February 20th, 2010 - 12:03 pm

In our country today, you’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t!! I agree that the normal reaction of any person of good character would be to stop the fight….but….recently a school teacher was in BIG trouble for breaking up a fight in a school after ‘throwing’ a student across the hallway after he repeatedly kept coming back and kicking/punching the student he was fighting with….it was on a students cell phone video and I feel I would have done the same thing…adults are not allowed to discipline children??? Where are we heading?? They’re trying to make it a crime to spank your own childredn..every child get a trophy… students can threaten teachers without consequence…we were afraid of the consequences of bad behavior when I was growning up…today,as shown in the video of the beating, the teens didn’t seem bothered by the fact that there were ‘guards’ there because they all know that they can’t do anything about it!! It’s time to change our values and it starts at home…unfortunately, that’s just a dream….the future doesn’t look good as we approach the demise of a moral society where people actually respect the laws and each other, where, if they commit a crime, they get many years in prison. How many times do you see on the news where a major violent crime is committed by someone who was just parolled after spending a few years behind bars after being sentenced to a ‘life’ sentence….

Kate Conboy-Greenwood   February 21st, 2010 - 9:40 am

I am writing from the UK where in August 2007, 20 year old Sophie Lancaster was kicked and stamped to death as she tried to stop a gang of youths attacking her partner. She cradled his head on her knees as they had kicked him unconscious, when they turned on her and didn’t stop until they were unrecognisable as males or females. They were attacked for being “goths” and “moshers”, like this young woman, for dressing in the “wrong clothes”
This was in a quiet park in a quiet town with other children as witnesses. There were no “security” to help them. What on earth do those security “men” feel when they see this shocking footage?

Sophie was in hospital for 13 days before she died, her partner Rob is still recovering. This young woman may physically recover but she will be scarred mentally for life.

Sophie’s mother, Sylvia Lancaster created the Sophie Lancaster Foundation as a lasting legacy to Sophie and will go into schools to educate young people about the intolerance and often violent prejudice faced by “alternative ” people. We are also campigning to change the UK Hate Crime legislation to include “lifestyle and dresscode”. Sylvia is now a member of the Hate Crime Advisory Board.

We have commissioned acadmic research into the extent of the problem and many people from the USA support our Foundation and contributed to the research.

Kicking people in the head causes DEATH, stamping on heads leaves the victim with BRAIN INJURY. The “men” who looked on should be ashamed and thankful they did not witness a MURDER.

Sophie’s attackers, Brendan Harris and Ryan Herbert were jailed for life and three others, Joe Hulme, Daniel Hulme and Daniel Mallett were jailed too. They were alll sentences using Hate Crime legislation.

please support our Foundation at http://www.sophielancasterfoundation.com and http://www.myspace.com/inmemoryofsophie and if you look at Youtube you will see the massive support your fellow Americans have given us

Different kinds of security officers have different roles and powers. Security officers have limited powers governed mostly by local law and by the directives of their clients. If the client directs its security service provider to “observe and report” then the blame is legally on the client for failure to provide sufficient security. As a private High Risk security service operator of 18yrs, husband and father of 3 (1 boy, 2girls), I feel that a moral obligation to protect the young lady from harm was ignored by Olympic Security, and overlooked by the state officials involved. Furthermore: the PSC officers made no effort to deter this incident! They carried the action by being overly passive and one of the officers appeared to enjoy the show as he stood and watched from inches away! His boss must be proud. This is not the kind of inactivity any security agency wants to be known for. I have been through the worst as most military and police have and I would rather tell my wife I was fired, arrested, and even hurt and being sued protecting someone than saying “I’m on the news for doing my job as instructed and letting a young crowd of punks stomp on a young girl just inches away from where I was posted! Turn on the T.V. honeybun “! If it was one of my girls, the guy that decided to hire the dupes and contract them as Observe and report My Daughter getting stomped on: would not like me as he ran for his life (a very short distance if any) as I would feel as any father would. This is America: we don’t let anyone hurt our babies!

Sad Citizen   April 6th, 2010 - 5:04 am

Okay, I haven’t read through all of the comments, but I wanted to comment on just the situation. When it comes to people who are so passive as to allow something as savage and simply sickening as this to happen, I’ve never in my life been so appalled. Three security guards, probably at least two dozen OTHER bystanders, and yet NOBODY did anything? I understand that there are lawsuits that could have been filed for someone stepping in, but wouldn’t it be better to be put on trial than to have seen this young girl (or the countless others that this happens to on a daily basis) be hospitalized for days or weeks or even killed? Those three guards SHOULD have stepped in; any able bodied man should have stepped in. This is ridiculous and just proves that we, as American citizens, can no longer depend on those with authority (security officers, government agents and police officers included) to protect us.

RJ   May 18th, 2010 - 8:00 pm

Most security guards are NOT ALLOWED by their company policy and the CLIENT FIRM or hiring GOVT Agency to physically intervene in any attack – period. Many private officers simply don’t have training or skills to act even if they could. All too often the guard(s) who defend a victim gets sued, prosecuted and jailed for the effort. To add insult to injury they get treated worse than dirt; insulted and dissed by city police and county sheriff deputies when a guard makes a ‘citizen’s arrest’ Under these conditions you expect them to act? Do you respect security guards? Have you ever worked as a guard? Have you ever watched while a security guard driving home after midnight gets ticketed by a rooster-strutting cop for a VERY minor traffic error simply because the guard wears a badge? Grow up.
