This is what happens when you give ignorant people power and authority.

Mark   November 4th, 2009 - 3:02 pm

I wonder if Jackson or Sharpton will condemn this police officer for the obvious abuse of power. Anyone want to take any bets?;)

Hooter   November 4th, 2009 - 3:11 pm

Its a shame when the US Constitution gets in the way…. I would sue the city for every last cent,

SOS4USA   November 4th, 2009 - 3:14 pm

Wow, did u see the size of that one cops enormous A$$? He hasn’t missed to many Sunday after meeting fried chicken platters.

doogle   November 4th, 2009 - 3:16 pm

Black, white, whatever…

When that cop violated the cameraman’s constitutional rights, everyone around there, black, white, whatever, came to the cameraman’s defense.

And, that’s the way it should be. Congratulations Newark citizens. You did the right thing.

Wes Seward   November 4th, 2009 - 3:17 pm

This a clear example of what happens when police officers have a clear lack of understanding and/or lack of respect of the law, and get this idea that they are all powerful and “can do whatever I want.” CBS the photographer not only needs to fight this, he needs to press charges on the police officer. I would recommend he not go to the police to do that alone, but with an attorney and with camera’s filming and audio on the whole thing. Police officers tend to team up and abuse their power to keep each other out of being held to the law same as everyone else, as well as use their positions to make civilians who are innocent look bad. In my hometown they all are required to have college degrees. That should be a nationwide mandate done by each and every district.

notinmycountry   November 4th, 2009 - 3:18 pm

i’m sure maobama will defend this maocop till the end. Like the one security cop said a while back, “this ain’t america no more”!! HATE CRIME if I’ve ever seen one.

Marine   November 4th, 2009 - 3:31 pm

Mr. Obama,

Did the Newark police act “stupidly”? I’m just asking…

Semper Fi

abidingdude   November 4th, 2009 - 3:35 pm

Oops! Were you filming that? Were there witnesses? One of them was a city Councilwoman? Really? Damn! You’re free to go.

abidingdude   November 4th, 2009 - 3:40 pm

Why is the cop handling that little cameraman like he’s a violent offender. the guy was holding a camera for frying out loud! Is he just getting his rocks off?

Switalla   November 4th, 2009 - 4:12 pm

@Wes Seward: How do you know this cop doesn’t have a college degree? And, how do you know that college graduate would’ve effected a different outcome?

Commieobamie   November 4th, 2009 - 4:27 pm

Said the same thing as the usurper obama: “I can do anything I want!”

COMMUNISM IS FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All will be well when the two sit down for a beer at the White House.

pepito cojones   November 4th, 2009 - 6:33 pm

Sue the stupid cop and sue the stupid Newark Police Department. After all, what country does this bully cop think he’s in? Doesn’t this stupid imbecile cop understand that Freedom of the Press in a Constitutional Right? They must be upset that they have a new governor in New Jersey! Fire that SOB bully cop, FIRE HIM NOW!!!!

RR   November 4th, 2009 - 6:34 pm

Pig

StopDaDems   November 4th, 2009 - 7:01 pm

Typical of fascist Obama state we live in. Dems need to be stopped. They put a foreign ruler over us and now they’re cracking skulls!

Lament   November 4th, 2009 - 7:03 pm

Was it an ACORN photographer? What was it up to? We can’t given ACORN an inch!

kmichaels   November 4th, 2009 - 8:43 pm

As a liberal I always thought that the cops should beat folks down. It’s the right thing to do. The only thing we are really Liberal about is our acceptance of drugs and gays.

suvrec   November 4th, 2009 - 9:34 pm

That cop needs some serious education, bet he got off on taking down such a huge, well armed white gangster.

I hope he looses his job, his pension, and ends up taking a rehabilitation class, learns to be a human being, learns the Constitution, and one day in the future he comes back to the cameraman and asks for forgiveness having learned how sad and despotic his actions while being LE were.

I also hope that the Police dept. the city are both sued silly.

As for those above who are invoking the names of Shurptoooooon and Jackassson, forget it , they are both already saying “move on nothing to see here”

Off Duty   November 4th, 2009 - 9:58 pm

This imbecile somehow got on the force, but I guarantee you, he just ended his career with that bad call. Newark PC Gary McCarthy has no choice but to bing this idiot. You’ll see.

RobbieK   November 6th, 2009 - 8:29 am

Yep, elect Half White Obama who that community thinks is Black and what do you get? Violations of the Constitution by Police Officers. Snarky must be mad his bud Corzine lost.

mg24   November 6th, 2009 - 3:55 pm

Here’s more info. This happened about a year ago.

KH left coast   November 8th, 2009 - 10:57 pm

Isn’t this what Janet Napolitano meant when she issued the Homeland Security instructions to local police across the country? Perhaps the photographer was a military vet, too. To those of you who voted for Ovomit, congratulations. You’re reaping what you voted for. Thanks one hell of a lot.

Mr. Do Right   November 8th, 2009 - 11:21 pm

Total fascist move by the police. This is what happens when you allow a fascist military industrial government to have all the power over you. Get used to this my fellow Amerikans, you unfortunately will be seeing a lot more of it I believe. God help this once great nation please!

68oet   November 8th, 2009 - 11:24 pm

This cop is totaly out of control for choking and arresting a citizen with a camera. This cop…if he really is one should be the one in jail getting choked.

Xavier Cugat   November 9th, 2009 - 1:15 am

Sounds like ‘Roid Rage’ to me.

The ENTIRE police force should be randomly tested.

Any positives…You’re Fired!!

senator_kang   November 9th, 2009 - 1:41 am

Wow. These people would be a little bit less adamant about their ability to “do whatever (they) want,” if they would be treated more like us normal citizens. Something this flagrant should result in that officer’s immediate dismissal, if not charges filed against him for wrongful detention and/or arrest. Too bad his union won’t allow that, and they would likely sue the city to fight for this narcissistic loser’s job. If the cop thought that the camera man was standing too close to the police officer’s position, he could have directed the man to move to a slightly different location, but this, ‘You can’t film here,’ business is BS. We are in the midst of losing all of our personal freedoms.

Ray   November 9th, 2009 - 3:00 am

This Police Officer needs to a class in Constitutional law. Even though I despise the media, they do have a right to report. It is called freedom of the press and it is in the 1st Amendment to the US Constitution. I was in law enforcement for many years and would never tolerate such attitude like that Officer. He needs to be fired

Troy McLure   November 9th, 2009 - 8:10 am

Well this is why boys become cops and Men, Men serve in the military. That is the mentality of those cops in Jersey and NYC. They think they are above the law and they are incapable of speaking a grammatically correct sentence in English. There is no W in quarter. The cops should wear boy scout uniforms and if they want to be men, sign and the dotted line and serve their country. Being a cop or firefighter is not serving your country and if anyone tells them that they are being lied to.

L Moffett   November 9th, 2009 - 9:20 am

Welcome to OBAMA WORLD. You’ll see a lot more of this.

Time for War   November 9th, 2009 - 9:59 am

The citizens, should have blown the officer away. That would send a clear message that you don’t mess with Freedom in this country. Unfortunately, we have too many pansies taking the PC avenue while we wathc the Police State come up around them(us). At the very least this officer shoudl be arrested for assault and battery, lose his job permanently, never to work as an officer or even a security guard anywhere in the US for the rest of his life, AND lose everything so he can go live on the street where his former “buddies” can treat him like the criminal he is. What comes around goes around. The war has begun.

george washington   November 9th, 2009 - 10:10 am

Good thing that isn’t me that cop is choking – by and by he would end up an ambushed cop with multiple bullet wounds.

Stinky   November 9th, 2009 - 10:34 am

The cop said “I can do anything I want”. And he is correct. The supreme court has ruled, that cops can do anything they want, even shock torture, even killing people. That is how the court has “interpreted” the Constitution. We live in a country where “you can’t search people with out SWEARING you have a good reason” has been interpreted to mean “You can search, taze, beat, arrest, and kill anyone you want – as long as you use one of these excuses: you felt threatened, your dog made a face, you thought someone was in danger… and so on.” The court that is supposed to protect our Constitution, has used it as toilet paper.

GrumpyUnk   November 9th, 2009 - 11:34 am

Unfortunately, this stuff happens everyday across our country. If you or I were arrested like this we wouldn’t have been released and would have to rely on the same system that employs this Cop to work for us.

“Whenever the legislators endeavor to take away and destroy the property of the people, or to reduce them to slavery under arbitrary power, they put themselves into a state of war with the people, who are thereupon absolved from any further obedience.” ~ John Locke

Full Timer   November 9th, 2009 - 11:41 am

The only way to fight this kind of out of control cop is to sue for civil rights violation. Why doesn’t this happen unless the ACLU is going after money from individuals?

Doug   November 9th, 2009 - 12:32 pm

I agree with “Time for War”. There was nothing to stop this moron for pulling his handgun and killing all of those around him because he “wanted to”!!!!!!!!! This could have turned out like Ft. Hood. Those who are in power cannot be trusted. This is exactly why the 2nd A was put into the Bill of Rights. Tyranny and abuse regardless of its source must be dealt with swiftly and by any means necessary.

Who gave this cop the authority to stick his nose into something that clearly did not involve him?????? Why is it that law enforcement is threatened by the presence of video cameras??? That answer is obvious but who gives them the authority to confiscate such cameras????

Chris   November 9th, 2009 - 12:56 pm

Nothing a tall tree and a short rope wouldn’t cure

ed   November 9th, 2009 - 1:19 pm

This is why everyone secrely hates cops….99% of the cops that are bad give the other 1% a bad name

Lorianne   November 9th, 2009 - 1:26 pm

Sue the city until it bleeds and that officer needs to be gone … yesterday.

Enough.

David Kirk   November 9th, 2009 - 1:27 pm

When will Obama proclaim the the NJ police “acted stupidly?”

DivineMoments   November 9th, 2009 - 2:24 pm

Seems Newark is a tad upset Corslime didn’t win. “I can do what I want” in ObamaNation!

rufus13   November 9th, 2009 - 2:34 pm

What if a bystander drew his weapon and put down this Newark cop in defense of the cameraman? Of course, this can’t happen in NJ, because no one is allowed weapons ‘cept the cops.

I suspect that there would be many dead, as other cops moved in and started firing to avenge their “brother”. Cops know just like us that there is no such thing as a fair trial, so they must be satisfied with an unfair gunfight.

The lesson they wish to teach us is fear. Cower before the blue uniform, subjects.

Cheers.

Ozark_Sunshine   November 9th, 2009 - 3:18 pm

This racist cop needs to be charged under the new hate crimes bill. See how Obama’s jackbooted thugs will go after anyone reporting the truth in this country. The cop needs to be fired and put in jail and lose his rights, since he thinks he has the authority to do that to someone else.

LaveSusManos   November 9th, 2009 - 4:26 pm

The officer says “I can do whatever I want.” ??

Perhaps he will enjoy picking up the soap when his rear end ends up on the other side of the jail bars.

Crustyrusty   November 9th, 2009 - 7:04 pm

Effing NAZI…

Oh NOEZ, someone DARED take pictures on public property and disobey His Imperiousness!

No wonder nobody trusts the Piggies anymore. They STILL don’t remember for whom they work.

Fascist idiot.

308Patriot   November 9th, 2009 - 7:57 pm

This cop needs to be fired, sued, and locked up. The positive side of this was that all the people witnessing this event, no matter their race, all came to his defense. Maybe we are finally evolving as a country where people are just people, and skin color means nothing, which is the way it should be.

I fear there is much more of this to come and we all need to stick together as American citizens during these troubling times.

Eric   November 9th, 2009 - 10:46 pm

This fascist cop needs to be jailed. Period. And the police officials who charged the photographer with disorderly conduct need to be fired and charged with false arrest.

mike   November 9th, 2009 - 11:53 pm

I don’t understand what happened here. Why did the cop get so excited just because a news crew was filming a march of some kind??? Am i missing something here?

bellatruth   November 10th, 2009 - 1:42 am

There is no way the people standing around should have allowed this officer, a SERVANT of the people, to violate the camera man’s RIGHTS! They should have made a citizen’s arrest and put the cop into his own handcuffs and called the SHERIFF!

Once again, the police Chief will just blame it on a misunderstanding and under training. This is how they keep getting away with this kind of lack of respect for WE the PEOPLE.

You know who I blame the MOST? I blame the people standing on the street watching this happen who let that cop tyrannize his master! THEY ARE THE SERVANTS! THEY ARE NOT OUR MASTER.

The sooner we realize that, the sooner our problem of tyranny will come to an end.

Blah   November 10th, 2009 - 2:12 pm

Foolish abuses of power such as this put all police in much greater danger as they aim for an ‘us against them’ atmosphere for all citizens. This cop needs to be an ex-cop serving actual time in jail to balance the scale.

Vindicator   November 13th, 2009 - 2:14 am

This is why it was important to remove God from the schools. We are now seeing the result, people with no ethics or morality and have absolutely no understanding of right from wrong. The police, nation wide, both white and black are acting totally outside of the Constitution. Ever since the time immediately before the elections, police have been operating against people’s freedom of assembly and intimidating anyone with a camera or sign “they” do not approve of. I watched this film and noticed the other officers did not assist him. They knew what they were witnessing was wrong and did not get involved. I would like to see it taken further with the officers who know what is right or wrong to step in and challenge the officer screwing up!

Vindicator   November 13th, 2009 - 2:19 am

Oh, after reading some comment above, you should know that there are a lot of cops who are equally upset with all the bad things taking place. I have sit in and covered various police association meetings and the majority of the field rank officers just raise hell over these types of incidents but it is the administrators that have last word and the administrations are worried about law suits so they set the attitude in motion to defuse and misdirect the attention or faults to save face. Again, generaly speaking, the low ranking patrol officers are pissed as hell over these rogues in their ranks. We will never know the problems that take place inside the locker rooms at major police departments.

[...] the other day I watched a news clip showing a Newark, New Jersey police officer overstepping his bounds, showing exceedingly bad [...]
