Catholic Church Investigates Existence of Aliens

I was raised Catholic and remember thinking it was a wacky religion when I had to memorize the saints before my 1st Communion. They taught us the 10 Commandments but then want us to pray to saints? Then I went to a all-girls Catholic school and remember thinking that God would not like Catholics saying that Catholicism is the only true religion. God loves us all the same but only Catholics are ‘really loved’? I branched out and went to a non-demoninational Christian church where I actually studied the Bible. Then it was confirmed to me that the Catholic religion is misguided, saying it nicely. This latest story simply confirms it. My heart hurts for my stubborn and ill-informed family.

Joe Ryder   November 12th, 2009 - 10:38 am

Why do people feel the need for God to be progressive instead of them becoming submissive? The Catholics are so far out there with inventing christmas, halloween, praying to mary, Pope, etc.

Dan Collins   November 12th, 2009 - 10:45 am

I’m Catholic and have no regrets, onesmartcookie. People make idols of a lot of things. We don’t worship saints, but we do venerate them as expressions of the infinite faces of God.

Despite what this report says, I can’t think offhand of anyone who was burned as a heretic merely for expressing the view of multiple worlds, apart from the famous case of Giordano Bruno. Giordano had a knack for pissing off people in high places, and if you read the scatological and misogynistic introduction to Faccio della Bestia Trionfante, you might think it somewhat remarkable that he went essentially unpunished for as long as he did.

Foxe and others certainly helped to create the Black Legend of the Spanish and other Inquisitions, but if you consider the witch hunts in Protestant countries, you will find that many, many more perished there than did under the regime of the Inquisition. Meanwhile, Roman Catholic states were largely responsible for preventing further Islamic expansion in the Mediterranean; the remarkable role of Venice in this respect might be worthy investigation.

I don’t believe that there is such a thing as a non-denominational church. Each and every church is based on particular readings of scriptures. Catholicism long ago accepted the validity of Darwinian evolutionary theory as not being inconsonant with the God of Revelation. If you don’t believe that, of course, you yourself are liable to be subject to accusations of anti-intellectualism, et cetera, yadda yadda.

Nor does Catholicism state that other Christians are not redeemable or redeemed. A great deal of anti-Catholic nonsense has been justified on these grounds.

SubjectofUSSA   November 12th, 2009 - 11:06 am

Vatican is the home to the biggest hypocrites in the world. And it’s only been like that, for I don’t know, over a thousand freaking years. How many people did Catholicism kill in the new world and around the world? how many witches were burned because they didn’t agree with the pope.

Catholocism has been, and always will be, a sad joke thanks to the Catholic Church. What’s more corrupt than the Church? Maybe our Government but that’s about it. And I even went to Catholic school, lot of good that did me. You’re fine as a Catholic, as long as you don’t ask questions.

As far as inventing christmas and holloween, etc.. They didn’t invent anything, just stole it from other religions to make people convert. Halo = Baal/Sun worship, not to mention, 4 out of your 7 days of the week, are named after Norse Gods.

Matt   November 12th, 2009 - 11:10 am

There are aliens, one is working for PMSNBC he goes by Keith Olbermann, and then there is one from CNN that goes by James Carville, both is not much of a disguice.

Dan Collins   November 12th, 2009 - 11:18 am

Wow, it’s very tonic to see the amazing outpouring of smug self-assertion here. Catholic and Protestant Churches both persecuted witches. It is arguable that Foxe’s Booke of Martyres, which Queen Elizabeth I commanded be presented in every church, was in effect a book of saints. James I (IV of Scotland) was so avid a witch-hunter that he wrote a book on demonology.

I am sorry but not surprised about this.

Emudude   November 12th, 2009 - 11:43 am

Maybe they will come and take Barack and Michelle back to their Homeworld.

Dan Collins   November 12th, 2009 - 11:44 am

Since I am dissertating, let me go on. It’s true that Catholics do have a great reckoning to account for regarding the treatment of the Amerindians, or Native Americans, or Indigenous Peoples of the Americas, or whatever you prefer. But please find for me, if you can, a contemporary Protestant Christian equivalent of Bartolome de las Casas. Nor do most people know about the St. Patrick’s Brigades actions in the US war with Mexico.

I doubt that the US history of war with the Native Americans is marked by a great deal more compassion than that of Catholic countries. It certainly seems on the face of it that the Spanish and Portuguese conquests were marked by more intermarriage.

I have to say that I admire Spenser as a poet, despite his advocacy of extermination of the Irish. None of this makes me particularly ill-disposed to Protestant churches.

If you feel hard done by personally in your Catholic upbringing or schooling, then I suggest you get over it. Carry on.

Snoopy   November 12th, 2009 - 11:49 am

Jeremy   November 12th, 2009 - 12:36 pm

The problem is not with the people in the church, it is the years of brainwashing that has them so fooled, it is these leaders and popes and cardinals, that think they can decide what God wants or knows, Idiots

I mean evolution, Aliens, come on, this is no church of God put just another form of baal worship from babylon, Catholics look, WAKE UP, Come out of her
Anybody just have to read Revelations chpt 17, or I Timothy chpt 3, To know what a evil religion this is, I have talked to many catholics and they said the book of revelations was forbidden to read or study, why is that. They said only priest would be able to understand it. You think God doesnt want all the people to know him and understand him, Thats where the Bible comes in.

Dan Collins I am sorry to say but you have been duped, And I will give the reasons.

Sins, Only Jesus Christ can forgive sins, not priest

Idols, You worship statues, saints, and above all MARY, she was only a WOMAN, that found favor in Gods eyes, Thats it.

Infant babtism, Hey the baby already had a bath

The pope is a sinner, sorry to break your heart.

Mass, you should eat breakfast before you go to church.

The Truth is JESUS CHRIST died once for sins, and thats it, trust on Him, and only Him , and you shall be saved.

Enoch_Root   November 12th, 2009 - 12:49 pm

Dan Collins I am sorry to say but you have been duped, And I will give the reasons.

Sins, Only Jesus Christ can forgive sins, not priest – YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION IS SHALLOW – PLS DO FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH THE THEOLOGY BEFORE YOU SCANDALIZE IT

Idols, You worship statues, saints, and above all MARY, she was only a WOMAN, that found favor in Gods eyes, Thats it. – WOW – AS A LIFELONG CATHOLIC, I HAVE NEVER EVER WORSHIPPED A STATUE – NOR MARY – AGAIN YOUR IGNORANCE IS STUNNING – AND SHOWING YOU AS A MAL-EDUMACATED BIGOT – WE VENERATE MARY AND ASK FOR HER INTERCESSORY PRAYERS ON OUR BEHALF – AND SHE WAS NO MERE WOMAN – SHE IS THE QUINTESSENTIAL CHRISTIAN – SHE WHO SAID YES TO GOD’S WILL

Infant babtism, Hey the baby already had a bath – HA! THE ONLY UNFORGIVABLE SIN, YOU WILL SURELY KNOW FROM YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF THE BIBLE IS WHAT? MOCKING THE HOLY SPIRIT.

The pope is a sinner, sorry to break your heart. – NO KIDDING. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT HE DOESN’T ASSUME HE IS SAVED – LIKE SOME OF THE PROTESTANTS COMMENTING HERE. ONE IS HUMBLE. ONE IS PRIDEFUL – YOU ARE THE LATTER.

Mass, you should eat breakfast before you go to church. – HA! FUNNY. AND EXTRAORDINARILY OFFENSIVE. BIGOT YOU ARE.

The Truth is JESUS CHRIST died once for sins, and thats it, trust on Him, and only Him , and you shall be saved. – THANKS FOR THE GOOD NEWS, JOHNNY COME LATELY – LET’S SEE – THE CHURCH MARTYRS WERE SAYING THAT AND DYING FOR IT BEFORE YOU SCHISMATICS WERE EVEN A TWINKLE IN LUTHER’S EYES.

GO AND SIN NO MORE.

Dan Collins   November 12th, 2009 - 12:52 pm

We don’t worship statues, saints, or even Mary. The term is veneration, and yes, there is a difference. As for Mary’s role in our religion, you may recall that there are Biblical passages in which she actually intercedes.

We are all sinners. Where is it set down in Catholic doctrine that the Pope is not a sinner. You don’t break my heart, although you do insult my intelligence.

Don’t really understand your point about the Mass. There are instances of Jesus fasting, are there not?

Jesus seems to have employed other human beings as instruments of His salvation, having emptied himself to take on the flesh. We take this quite literally, as you know. Another way of saying this is that the Catholic acknowledges that in this world, we see darkly because this world is illusory, and that there are truths beyond that are gestured to by the images that we give to them. The physical world, which seems so compellingly present, is in fact vacuous, but for the supersensual reality of Christ’s presence.

He said that His apostles had the power to bind or unbind sins.

You are like the rest who seek to know nothing of my faith, but what justifies your bigotry.

Enoch_Root   November 12th, 2009 - 12:52 pm

Jeremy – no need to rebel – come home. Your Mother awaits you, no matter what lies you have been told – and continue retelling.

Or, do you need some more schooling from your older brothers? :)

+Cloud+   November 12th, 2009 - 1:09 pm

The Catholic church has other motives…there is a flaw when the study of aliens comes before studying the word of God?

elliott   November 12th, 2009 - 1:21 pm

I’ve noticed that the Church always seems to come around and the tail end of an idea or movement. Astronomy is just one example. Look back at her treatment of witches and support of slavery. She is still kicking and screaming on key issues (like women’s rights, gay rights, reproductive freedoms), clinging as she does to her stagnant doctrines and desperate to perpetuate her waning influence in the face of growing international opprobrium. Better late than never, I guess, but what a cost her tardiness exacts on humanity.

alongcameaspyder   November 12th, 2009 - 1:26 pm

***there are Biblical passages in which she actually intercedes.***
LIAR

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus 1 Timothy 2;5

she said to obey HIM, “His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.”

Provide one verse where she intercedes between God and man!

Don’t let that fool deceive you, IF they pray to her they believe she hears that prayer, which would give her the power of GOD!

Dan Collins will tell you that the catholic catechism is absolute truth!

Here you see that their catechism says that man becomes God.

LOOK IT UP YOURSELVES!

Men Become God, according to catholic catechism…
Catechism quotes prove this is official Catholic doctrine.

“For the Son of man became man so that we might become God.” Pg. 116, #460

“The only-begotten Son of God, wanting to make us sharers in his divinity, assumed our nature, so that he, made man, might make men gods.” Pg. 116, #460

AGM   November 12th, 2009 - 1:28 pm

Nice job, Dan Collins. Well said.

Back to the news piece… It is amazing how floored the news people are about the Church asking scientific questions. It really shows up their own ignorance of history and their Enlightenment-biased view of the Church as backwards. Historians have long admitted the role of the Church in advancing science — even though, yes, there were some mistakes made (yet like Dan, I am a bit suspicious of the case reported).

The guest expert is better than the news people in his understanding, but not altogether. The remark about the pope’s comments regarding condoms is not against social science, as he says, but is actually confirmed by a Harvard social scientist. See the article by K. J. Lopez in NRO:

http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=MTNlNDc1MmMwNDM0OTEzMjQ4NDc0ZGUyOWYxNmEzN2E=

Unfortunately, a lot of people are content to spout stereotyped remarks with smugness, while thinking they are learned and in-the-know. But they are only revealing their ignorance. I wish more people could see that.

there is no fear of God before their eyes   November 12th, 2009 - 1:33 pm

The Roman Catholic Church is Satan’s Masterpiece of Deception!

The catechism shown above proves that!

Another cult, the mormons, also teach that men become GOD!!

All cults have the same teacher!

Deisree   November 12th, 2009 - 1:34 pm

I am a Catholic and I have become very disillusioned by those in charge of my faith. The cover-up of pedophile priests, moving them from church to church. Think
about how many confessions were heard by these criminals. How about the actions of Notre Dame University when obumble spoke there last spring. The University
came down hard on those protesting and even arrested people including priests. Why, these people simply didn’t want someone so pro abortion speaking at
a supposed Catholic University. The Catholic church also needs to come down hard on these “Catholic” (in name only) politicians that support abortion.

Shiori   November 12th, 2009 - 1:54 pm

Deisree, honey, why become disillusioned over the evil actions of human beings? Wherever there are humans, there is corruption. No exceptions. For example, did you know that there are 30 times more cases of sexual abuse in the Public Schools? Does that mean you stop sending your child to school all together? Of course not. Never put your faith into humans – you’ll always be disappointed. Why do you think Christ had to die for us – because we ALL suck so bad.

Anyway, corruption should be exposed wherever it is; whether in the church, or the secular world. That’s another great thing about Andy Breitbart – he won’t shy away from exposing anyone no matter who they are.

Dan Collins   November 12th, 2009 - 2:15 pm

In that very same passage you quote, alongcameaspyder, Mary intercedes by saying, “There is no wine.” She does not perform the miracle, but she asks it of her son, and it is granted. As regards the intervention of the saints, we always do ask it in Jesus’ name.

The sheer amount of vitriol here is rather astounding. We’ve been accused of being Satanic, just for example. The same people who write this kind of twaddle I’m sure subscribe to the idea that the Catholic Church is the Whore of Babylon, and all of the other strange apocalyptic nonsense that gets bandied about.

None of you has bothered to consider the human history that I’ve cited, and alas, until the Second Coming that is what we are stuck with and in. What I do see a lot of is willful hatred and bigotry. Undoubtedly, you feel justified. Bigots always do.

We sacrifice to the Lord in different ways, it is true, but we can neither add nor detract from the Glory of God. Nothing we offer does he need. The difference then, as far as I can divine it, is the spirit in which our poor offerings are made. I do submit myself to His discipline, and I can say that His yoke is mild. If I can honor your commitment and your worship, why can you not honor mine? What tokens He deems worthy to redeem and what not can be a matter only of conjecture and faith for us all, and that, I think, argues humility.

CollegeLibertarian   November 12th, 2009 - 2:38 pm

So will the Pope now begin to funnel appointed portions of the TITHE, from the abundance and wealth of GOD’S people, to feed, clothe, and heal
‘aliens’, too? mm…mmm…mmmm…

This sounds hauntingly familiar: aliens… legal aliens… ill-legal…

If there are aliens, GOD – THE ONLY LIVING GOD – Creator of all the Universes, and all that therein is, made them, just as He made us. If I study the Scriptures every day for the rest of my days, I’ll never be able to comprehend the width, depth, or breadth of His mercy and grace. I’m still focused on fathoming Isaiah 40!

I really don’t understand the need to mock the doctrines of churches you don’t belong to.

Face it, people, every church teaches “weird” things that make sense to the believers. Unless you’re being forced to observe rites you don’t believe in or confess doctrines you find false, just let people think what they want, unmolested.

Worry about your own soul. That’s a full-time job as it is.

Mike in NH   November 12th, 2009 - 8:48 pm

It never ceases to amaze me, that Christians will bend over backwards to bash Catholics. Those that do have clear lack of History, both of the world and what Christianity really is.

Witch Hunts? Yeah, mostly Protestants. Especially in Colonial America. The King James Bible? Yeah, we’ll just rip a few books out of the Bible that are “Inconvenient” and create a new one. In fact, if the Catholic Church was wrong in choosing the Gospels, why not head here and pick out a few you like and build your own Bible!

http://www.earlychristianwritings.com/gnostics.html

Then, you too can be Martin Luther! See how easy? Why, it’s almost like Reverend Wright twisting the faith! “Not God Bless Catholics, God Da*n Catholics!”

Oh, and for you dopes saying “Nancy Pelosi is a Catholic!” Have you checked how many Liberal Democrats subscribe to Your Sect? I didn’t think so.

Hypocrites.

Jeremy   November 13th, 2009 - 1:40 am

I do not hate catholics, but my hate is very strong for the religion that you have, started by the master of lies.

I am sorry, put there is nothing in your traditions that can be proved from the BIBLE!! The catachism is doctrine from your church, not inspired from God.

Please prove your sacraments or traditions from the only authority, THE HOLY BIBLE.

The catachism says that the pope is infalliable and everything he says is given from God . does that not mean he cannot do no wrong.

Why do you pray to MARY, Please let me know SHE IS NOT GOD, she tells the people whatever he says, do, she is giving authority to JESUS CHRIST. If you would read your bible ( New testament) everything points to Jesus Christ as your only saviour, If you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth thou shalt be saved. You can know if your are saved. Believe on him as your lord and saviour. You do not have to pray to dead saints or a dead mary, they were only people.

Please show me about infant baptism in the BIBLE, You cannot, or how about priest forgiving sins, you cannot, Or how about peter is the first pope, Lets see he was married, was not in Rome, Paul was, awaiting in jail, and was the apostles to the Jews.

The bible says the last supper you do in rembrence of Him, do you really think that cracker and grape juice is your LORD
How about my favorite PURGATORY, MADE UP!!!! just so thay can fill there plates some more, Hey there is corruption in every religion, do not trust religion, TRUST JESUS CHRIST, and his WORD, not theres

Jeremy   November 13th, 2009 - 1:56 am

GIve me bible versus that defend your traditions PLEASE. I am begging you. please prove your church to me.

Jeremy   November 13th, 2009 - 2:11 am

ENOCH ROOT

It is funny you said what you did. Do not try to cover up the facts.

I had a nun tell me Mary was sinless, A priest forgave my wife of sins when she was growing up in a catholic church tell her she had to take mass once a week to get to heaven.
I have seen pray cards to so called saints, And the worse thing I HAVE EVER HEARD , is catholics tell me a Baby will go to hell if it isnt baptisied, and the baby dies.

That is why I hate your Religion None of it is your the Bible, I even heard your pope believes in evolution, Now how can that be Is it God or aliens, You decide.
I know more about your church then you do the Bible, PERIOD!!!!!

Dan Collins   November 13th, 2009 - 7:47 am

Jeremy:

As you ought to be aware, then, the idea is based on the typological identification of Mary as the New Eve: http://www.catholicbasictraining.com/apologetics/coursetexts/3c.htm

But beyond this, there’s the perfect obedience, the perfect that is demonstrated in her response to rather extraordinary request of the angel Gabriel.

What do Catholics actually believe about unbaptised infants who die? http://www.catholicnews.com/data/stories/cns/0702216.htm

Prayer cards are a hang-up for you? What is the nature of your objection? Are you going to try to argue that we are praying to the cards?

In this comments thread, we have had our religion named a Satanic cult. Here is what happens when Satanic cults collide, Jeremy: http://powip.com/2009/11/good-enough-for-a-christian/ I will say to you what I said to the others: enjoy your hatred and bigotry, since it seems to important to you, but don’t piss down my back and tell me it’s raining.

Enoch_Root   November 13th, 2009 - 8:27 am

Jeremy – if you are indeed interested in being converted to Mother Church, you may write me at matt.ocoileain @ gmail.com

> Mary was sinless – but not by her own doing. Have you ever read the Catechism? Even the early iterations before your sect broke from the trunk? Strike one.

> A priest cannot forgive sins, silly! Again, your lack of understanding with regard to Catholic Theology is stunning. Only God can forgive sins! You should know that. Strike two.

> if a Catholic has told you a baby will go to hell in the absence of Baptism, you have been speaking to truly uninformed Catholics – which is very sad – but I think that is strike three.

HAHAHAHA – ok – the comment about knowing more about the Bible thAn me is funny – I’ll call that a foul ball. It may or may not be so – only God would know.

But my offer stands. If you really are a seeker of Truth, then surely your beliefs can withstand a hearty debate on the EEEEVVVVVIIIIILLLLness of the Church you come from but “hate”.

And if I remove all of your trepidations, I would like you to return here and pick up each scandalous lie you have promulgated.

Deal?

Jeremy   November 13th, 2009 - 11:12 am

Boys, come on , I said prove it from the Bible the only source of authority, Your catachism does not count. You cannot prove any of this garabage.

And dont try to judge my accusations, I HAVE seen and heard all of the stuff I said, why do you have to try cover up the truth. ADMIT IT.

OH by the way, check out the statue of saint peter in Rome, So many people have kissed the feet of this piece of rock that the toes are wearing off, IDOL worship,

You know I almost forgot this, Did not your church change the ten commandments, lets see, ohh yea, yoda oh I AM SORRRY, I mean pope, got rid of one of the commandments.

I bet you dont know which one it is. OHHH WAIT!!! That would only leave 9, WHAT NOW…. They took one of them and broke in two. HOW NIFTY? Just so it would fit there doctrine,
Who cares if it is the word of God , That souldnt matter, by the way is not the pope god on earth.

Catholic Ten Commandments, Google it.

Dan Collins   November 13th, 2009 - 1:59 pm

Scriptural authority: GOOGLE IT!

Who ever said that the Pope was God on earth? You certainly hate a lot of straw men, Jeremy. What did they ever do to you?

A demonstration of devotion isn’t the same thing as worship, you know. We don’t worship the signs, you ninny, but we do show respect and adoration for the ideas that they represent.

You really don’t know anything about the catechism except what you’ve been told by bigots, and your understanding of Christ’s teachings seems to be impaired by your truly insane hatred of what you do not understand, nor truly seek to understand. That is because this is a hatred that you cherish.

Jeremy   November 13th, 2009 - 2:18 pm

Is not he supposed to represent Jesus on earth Infallible, Hey it is in your catachism.

Jeremy   November 13th, 2009 - 2:50 pm

yes IT IS CALLED PRAISING GOD, And about the Bible you do not believe it is a literal truth do you

#1 God is not the author of confusion, He would not lie in his word.

#2 Why cant I interpet the Bible If you read it is pretty straight forward, No divici code here.

#3the people that knock the bible are usually the people that DO NOT read it.

My church looks like a church

Jeremy   November 13th, 2009 - 2:52 pm

hyms Matthew chpt 26 verse 30

Dan Collins   November 13th, 2009 - 2:58 pm

It’s funny, though, that you should be so critical of the conventions of another church. Your own church has its own conventions, which seem natural enough to you. If the Bible is so accessible, then why do you have a preacher? Can you think of any Catholic who’s particularly impressed by the idiocies of the DaVinci Code? Who’s knocking the Bible?

Now, this Independent Baptist Church . . . does that mean that it’s not associated with the Southern Convention? What has its historical attitude towards race and slavery been? Should it be as responsible for its failings as the Catholic Church has been? What are its works?

You neither think nor argue rigorously. I think that this means that

Dan Collins   November 13th, 2009 - 2:59 pm

is at an end.

Jeremy   November 13th, 2009 - 3:19 pm

I laugh, again you are showing you ignorance, The reason why is their lack of showing their authority to God or the Bible.

I do not care what church I belong to as long as it teaches and preaches the Bible, If God is not the authority then who is, we are as sand in the wind.

No I do not belong to southern, and everybody will be accountable for their works here on earth but that is not a condition of salvation

The problem with the CC is their submission to the word of God, there is none, By the way I have preached in this church before and alot of the men have, authority comes from the word of God.

Again your argument has fallen off the cliff, I do not think this means that, the Bible makes it pretty clear, But answer me this Have you read the Bible, gIVE ME SOME SCRIPTURE

Dan Collins   November 13th, 2009 - 6:04 pm

You are a very prideful, callow, anti-intellectual young man, Jeremy. And you love your stupidity better than you love the truth. Your arguments are all constructed on false premises, and you glory in your misestimate of your knowledge and insight. It would truly be casting pearls before swine to try to reason with you.

I hope in the fullness of time that you will learn a little humility. Life has a way of teaching one that.

Be well, and enjoy your bigotry and your double standards while you may, and when you find yourself falsely judged and maligned, I hope you will reflect on this.

Dan Collins   November 13th, 2009 - 6:09 pm

As far as scripture goes, why don’t you figure out why I cited the First and Second Temples.

Jeremy   November 14th, 2009 - 2:32 am

PLEASE enlighten me, your accusations are so broad, you have yet to answer any of my questions besides attacking me.

You cannot, because your truth comes from your church not from the bible. If I am false, please give me an example, everything I have said is true about your false religion.

I am just trying to show you religion is not the answer, If I am wrong, it is not me, It is the Bible, Is that what you are trying to say, so be it, just say it.

And again I WANT YOU to explain Purgatory, evolution, aliens, pray for the dead, Give me the authority from where you get this garbage. YOU cannot and will never give me a straight answer

And that is what is sad, I am truly sorry. By the way why would my church look like a the temples, did I say I was jewish.

Enoch_Root   November 14th, 2009 - 7:50 am

Jeremy – you are to become small in this life – we are called to kill our creaturely will – and especially pride – you are a novice, Jeremy – and it is not a good idea for novices to “preach” what they demonstrably do not understand. We, the Whore of Babylon, etc, at least have 2000 of the greatest theological minds behind what we teach – all extremely holy and devout Christians to a one – you seem to believe your preacher – who no doubt is a kind and loving man/woman – along with your small congregation can – in a matter of a very short period of time – seem to know better – which means your congregation must be full of the holiest of Holymen and Women – do you have the benefit of St. Catherine of Sienna’s image of Christ as the Bridge? Howabout the treasures of St. Augustine or St. Aquinas? hmmmm. All of them point us to the path of Christ and how to stay on the path in the face of the challenges on this Pilgrim’s Road.

But I am with Dan on this – you have NO idea of Catholicism. Nor do you care if you are speaking Truth when you misrepresent Mother Church and Her Teachings. And so, pearls before swine.

Blessed be God, Forever.

Your Brother in Baptism,
Enoch

Jeremy   November 14th, 2009 - 4:10 pm

Root, You have proven my point to the TEE!

You can rely on your holy men and images, signs, works, wonders and your infallible pope. I will serve the Lord and his Word, that doesnt mean I am holy like you and your peers, for I sin everyday, But I am saved by the Blood once and once only as the Bible says.

As for me and my bigotry I will leave with this, Please give me one verse that supports your doctrines of indulgences, aliens, evolution, mass, sinless mary, pray for the dead, infant batism, purgatory, holy water, infallible pope and works for salvation and I will comment no more. BUT, I know that will never happen.

st. catherine image ohhhhhhh Man you guys are Holy I better shut up before you rain down fire from the vatican.

kellann   November 15th, 2009 - 11:14 am

Do you all realize you’re arguing about a God that doesnt exist and a human man who (while awesome in so many ways) was just a man with some great ideas? ALL churches suck…all theologies are wrong. God is too big to fit into your box. The Catholic Church is the only one willing to admit that they might be wrong on the whole “earth was created in 7 days” thing. Protestants are still content to wallow in their ignorance. Its actually comendable that the church is willing to open its eyes to reality!
PS. Not a catholic, not a protestant…just a person who believes God is VERY VERY BIG and WAAAAAAY beyond your human theologies and ideas!!

The Truth Already   November 15th, 2009 - 11:46 am

Maybe Pope Benedict XVI is trying to justify the Scriptures somehow?
Doesn’t he know already that there is alien life… the God of the Bible?

Isn’t it just like CHRISTians to fight and argue about GOD, and yet I didn’t see ANY of you go jihad and cut each other heads off, and rape and kill.
What’s that all about?!!!!!!!!!!

Just saying.

Jeremy

John ch 21 vs 25
there were also many other things that Jesus did but if these were to be described indevidualy I do not think the whole world would contain the books that would be written

It doesn’t take an einstein to understand. Could it be that the church traditions are based on the things he didn’t do that aren’t in the bible. Priests Forgive sins through God just as the apostles did when Jesus was gone. We don’t worship idols we use the icons of the church to tell stories. This has been passed down from the time when priests would teach this way to those who couldn’t read or write or understand scipture. Everything we do and believe has a reason if it’s not in the bible it is in tradition of almost 2000 years worth.

Also you cannot blame the whole church for the sins of some people who abused their power. We as Catholics understand these men sinned because everyone sins even the pope.
It’s the same as saying all Christians are evil because of the sins of the kkk. Or all muslims are terrorists because of a few groups. You can’t do it.

I hope you will see this and come to understand and be free of your hatred.
I will pray that God will open your eyes.
