"And if you were waiting for a bill that wouldn’t compel taxpayers to cover the cost of abortions, then you’ll vote against this bill because this is, the National Right to Life Committee says, the most abortion-expansive piece of legislation ever to reach the floor of the House of Representatives."

"Today is the feast of St. Joseph the Worker, particularly important to Italian-Americans. It’s a day where we remember and pray to St. Joseph to benefit the workers of America, and that’s exactly what our health-care bill will do."

"All the headlines are today on how the big deficit reduction number you mentioned -- the $138+ billion. Now, built into that, and I haven't seen that anywhere, about half of that is the deficit reduction as a result of a measure that doesn't have anything to do at all with health care. It's the federal takeover of student loans."

"When you go to the individual specific provisions in this bill — eliminating pre-existing conditions from being a preclusion to getting insurance, making sure that companies can't put lifetime caps or cancel your policies when you get really sick, making sure that annually you can't be capped so you drive families into bankruptcy — when you ask people about that, and about the exchanges where you have a transparent marketplace, where you can compare prices and benefits through whole range of insurance companies so you can get the best buy, people say 60%, 70%, 80%, 'Yes, those are good provisions.'"

FNC's Bret Baier on interrupting President Obama: "I do respect the office and I do believe that in an ideal world in that Blue Room interview I would've liked to ask questions, receive answers and move on. But I felt like in this amount of time, with the clock ticking and me getting wrap signs from White House staff members, that I owed it to our viewers and to everyone tuning in to really try to press for answers and not the everyday response that that we've been hearing really for a number of weeks - almost a year plus - on health care reform."

“I wish we weren’t doing it this way, you know. I understand the Republicans did (in the past), but that’s no excuse for both sides. Let’s be up front, be out there and fight. But at the end of the day, if I’m forced to vote on it, will I? Yes. Because of those 700 Pennsylvanians that lose their health care today and I don’t want that to happen.”

"While deeming – like reconciliation – has been used by Republicans and Democrats in the past, the context in which it would be used in this case leads me to conclude that it would poison an already terribly partisan atmosphere and leave the Congress even less able to find bipartisan solutions to fiscal problems that are on the verge of becoming overwhelming.”

AP: President Barack Obama has postponed his trip to Asia until June so he can stay in Washington for a possible Sunday vote on his health care overhaul plan. White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Thursday the president is disappointed and regrets having to delay his visits to Indonesia and Australia but has told the leaders of those nations that health care is a crucial priority.
