I think this shows that Obama was listening in his church after all.

Obumba’s cracking! Ouchie, but funny!

Alan   July 24th, 2009 - 12:32 pm

I think Obama spoke STUPIDLY!

Hey, if you’re disrespectful, uncooporative or resisting the police, whatever color you are, the police will do what is necessary for them to have control of the situation.
But the FIRST thing Obama has to say, without knowing the facts, is something about race.
Clearly, Obama is the racist.
That should suprise no one.

Union Rocks   July 24th, 2009 - 12:36 pm

I will hold my breath waiting for Obama to apologize… NOT!

James   July 24th, 2009 - 12:36 pm

I agree with this, this Police officer was following his job. The president should shut up, and actually read the facts before he and his little teleprompter decide to comment on issues.

Mark Carlton   July 24th, 2009 - 12:36 pm

An apology from Obama would help weaken the perception that he is over-the-top arrogant — but I’m not holding my breath

Dan   July 24th, 2009 - 12:36 pm

Not only apologize to the police but to the American people for for acting on anything without knowing the facts. A “Community Organizer” may be able to act without knowing facts but the American people expect a little more from their President.

DaStupidVoteGop   July 24th, 2009 - 12:36 pm

Christians had been cast out of their own Garden of Eden. Then, Christians came to America and cast the Native American Indians out of THEIR Garden of Eden.

CommonSense   July 24th, 2009 - 12:37 pm

Everyone should give Obama a little break here. I mean it must be very VERY hard for him to look into a mirror and see his ugly white side.
This frickin’ guy is soooo filled with hate it’s scary.

Chris   July 24th, 2009 - 12:37 pm

Facts?? Obama can’t be bothered with FACTS! It’s all about FEEEEELINGS!!

Bill   July 24th, 2009 - 12:38 pm

What? Are you kidding? You’re asking The Obama to admit he erred?

I Art Laughing   July 24th, 2009 - 12:38 pm

Do they not yet realize that 0bama is humility challenged and CANNOT do any such thing as acknowledge a mistake made by himself much less apologize? What do they think that the MESSIAH is human or something…..the man is infallible like the pope x10.

russ   July 24th, 2009 - 12:38 pm

The President himself has just shown he is guilty of racial profiling – and not the first time, as he has talked about his grandmother being a ‘typical white woman’. Racist.

James   July 24th, 2009 - 12:39 pm

I support the police officer, he was doing his job, and following his procedures. Also, the President should learn to shut up, and actually read the facts, before him and the teleprompter decide to make statements on issues.

http://www.whywevoted.com

John Brock   July 24th, 2009 - 12:39 pm

Obama belongs to the Sotomayor school of judgment: empathy over facts!

Mickey 1776   July 24th, 2009 - 12:39 pm

See what happens when TOTUS goes script? Sounds like the real Barack is coming through.
Seems to me the racist president should apologize for shooting off his mouth without knowing the facts of a case. Perhaps he thinks he is still a community organizer (agitator) using his rules for radicals by dividing people into groups… He needs to do what he does best and apologize for HIS statements, bias and HIS prejudice!

Rob   July 24th, 2009 - 12:40 pm

What is in a man comes out- especially when he does not have a teleprompter to help him say his lines!
Obama is clearly a racist.

Sadly- underlying ALL his policies there will be a driving ambition to help ‘the minorities” while the rest of us are hung out to dry!!

FUBAR   July 24th, 2009 - 12:40 pm

Unfortunately the smart folks that voted for Obama are quickly realizing just how stupid THEY are.

Arcy   July 24th, 2009 - 12:40 pm

Oh Yeah! Thank you Cambridge Police Dept. The American citizen respects you, but not all foreigners do. Now it’s time for Obama to step up and do the right thing.

Mauricio Villablanca   July 24th, 2009 - 12:41 pm

The Chicago thug has to apologize for HIS stupid comments.

spatz   July 24th, 2009 - 12:41 pm

Hey, if George Bush had called the Police Force stupid the Media would have destroyed him. Notice how every black person you ask about this defends Obama. Would these same blacks have defended Bush in a similar situation? Of course not, he’s white. Now who are the racists?

bho is a racebater   July 24th, 2009 - 12:42 pm

bho is such a big steamy pile………….hard to believe a pres plays the race card…………he can take the card and shove it up his a**

Shamballa   July 24th, 2009 - 12:42 pm

Gates behaved stupidly. That is why he was arrested. This race card crap is getting very old, very fast.

bob   July 24th, 2009 - 12:42 pm

I think the President answered the question like a community organizer and not the President of the United States.

myron_monk   July 24th, 2009 - 12:42 pm

B.O. has stepped in it, BIG TIME! My moderate friends are all upset that he waded into the choppy waters of race. They were foolish enough to think that the B.O.i-President transcended race. That would be funny by itself except for the fact that that sort of stupidity is what will sink this country.

Bryan H   July 24th, 2009 - 12:42 pm

I think Obama should make a short statement that regrets making any comments on the situation until the facts are better known. End of Story. Anything less or anything more will only exacerbate the situation.

FUBAR   July 24th, 2009 - 12:42 pm

Heck, where is the good reverend Al when we need him? Wonder if would have showed up if Bush said that about an african american officer. Hmmmmmmm…….hmmmmmmmmm. What ya think folks?

Brian   July 24th, 2009 - 12:42 pm

A-holes come in all sizes, colors, and shapes.

Amanda   July 24th, 2009 - 12:43 pm

How irrational of Obama! I think an apology is the least he could do.

jay   July 24th, 2009 - 12:43 pm

Our president is a punk and completely ignorant. Of all people who would criticize the police, he has a police and protection staff that vow to step in front of a bullet to protect the president. You think maybe they might be rethinking their commitment if their boss doesn’t respect them?

Shonuff   July 24th, 2009 - 12:43 pm

Obama will certainly apologize to the Mass Police…right after he’s done apologizing to Iran, Russia, all of Europe and China for the reprehensible way the US has acted over the past 100 years.

Paul   July 24th, 2009 - 12:43 pm

I think Obama is in way over his head

ChrisWI   July 24th, 2009 - 12:43 pm

Yes, I agree it is all about feelings, Obama’s feelings. It is all about him. What a narcissist!

smalltowngirl   July 24th, 2009 - 12:43 pm

It’s a fact that the “professor”, and I use that term lightly, needs to apologize for racial profiling the police officer!!

RightStuff   July 24th, 2009 - 12:43 pm

Barry Obama apologizes only to countries which do not share our love of human liberty.

Matt   July 24th, 2009 - 12:43 pm

Obama admitted he didn’t have all the facts yet he defamed an entire police department and blasted the officer involved even though witnesses described the racist professors inappropriate behavior.
Prof Gates is a racist who acted like a fool. Gates owes an apology. Obama owes an apology.
Obama is a racist.

Batjak456   July 24th, 2009 - 12:43 pm

A 100% disabled Air Force veteran here…

In this reporter’s opinion (to steal Cronkite’s phrase), I think I’ve got Barack Obama figured out a bit.
When I view his ‘approach’ through this lens, a lot of things start to fall in (to) place.
The following Wash. Times article gives an insight in to understanding how he puts his thoughts (justice) together.
Below he is quoted, saying, “I fear that reparations would be an excuse for some to say, ‘We’ve paid our debt,’ and to avoid the much harder work.”
Reparations would have de-fused much dissatisfaction among the minorities, perhaps…. “We’ve paid our debt”
Any softer shift of the minorities attitudes would not fit into his grand scheme…therefore, his vote against reparations, which angered a lot of blacks…and made a lot of whites smile.
The scheme??
Ultimately, the goal is to replace the current ’status-quo’, if you will, with a new minorities-driven government. “the much harder work”
Now it makes more sense. For instance, Alford took Boxer to task for trying to introduce liberal black groups (NAACP) in to the cap & trade debate. (Boxer loves black people) (in their place, that is.) A lot of white people at first didn’t get why he was so pissed at her.
Obama nominates an obviously minority-driven ‘power Latina’ to be the newest Supreme Court Justice.
The Cambridge police department is “stupid”. I’m afraid some of Rev. Wright’s sermons got through and/or simply reinforced his community-organizer background.
Much of the health reform bill is woven with ‘affirmative action’ launguage.
His appointment of 23 (and counting) ‘czars’ is the same organizational structure ACORN uses. Layers and layers of underlings to shield the un-elected Obama government bosses from scrutiny…and accountability to…….no one…except Obama, of course.
I wish I was wrong…but, I’m keeping my eye (lens) on him.

mrunpc   July 24th, 2009 - 12:43 pm

GOOGLE: “The Sworn Affadavit of Bishop Ron McRae” and READ IT ALL. Then you’ll have an idea just WHO and WHAT is currently squatting in OUR White House.

GOOGLE: “The 45 Stated Communist Goals to Take Over America” and READ THE LIST. Then you’ll have an idea just WHO and WHAT is currently controlling OUR Congress under the guilse of the “Democrat Party”.

Alan   July 24th, 2009 - 12:44 pm

We get to see a side of him that the teleprompter has hidden :-)

Just keep talking Mr Postmodern.. we are listening.
This is a dangerous man. I see his approval ratings are slipping big time.

N Korea, Iran, The Economy- the man has no clue what to do!

jeanenev   July 24th, 2009 - 12:44 pm

We would be greatful to just have the police arrive on scene for a home burglary in
California. Mistaken identity has happened to my white children and nephews three seperate
times. Guns drawn and told to lie on the ground. They were driving a car that fit the
discription of a stolen vehicle. They could have chased after the cops and raged but
no. RESPECT for doing their job is what I have taught them about officers. SHUT UP on di
discrimination. My son gets pulled over all the time for driving a very nice vehicle in t
in a rough neighborhood. He works two jobs since he was 15 and buys his own cars.
Is that not discrimination! ENOUGH ALREADY>

Rob   July 24th, 2009 - 12:45 pm

I’m seeing a pattern here – a rush to judgement. First TARP had to be passed
right here right now, then healthcare, now police action.

Sarah   July 24th, 2009 - 12:45 pm

HOORAY !!! for the police dept I will say “this is priceless” Obama is A hood from chicago and he exposed himself perfectly I cant wait for him to become “LAME”

Yrite   July 24th, 2009 - 12:45 pm

After you think you’re safely inside “your” home and have presented “your” identification to an official who thinks your a crook, do you think you would be nice about it?

I believe the professor probably owes an apology for getting mad at an innocent mistake; and I believe the officer owes an apology for making a mistake in thinking the professor was making an illegal entry to a home that didn’t belong to the professor.

prince akbar   July 24th, 2009 - 12:45 pm

Let me get this right. THE DEVIL can say sorry to Gates, even though THE DEVIL dropped charges, and YOU WANT THE LEADER of this superpower to APOLIGIZE to the “police’ for something a stupid one did? lol Frank ricci wants to hear Obama say sorry too. So does Sarah palin according to twitter rants.

T-Will   July 24th, 2009 - 12:46 pm

How dare you call on The “Messiah” to give an apology. Clearly it’s the white man who owes the apology.

Mind Your Manners   July 24th, 2009 - 12:46 pm

Just saw this presser on CNN…the anchor and reporter (both black) were beside themselves with anger…at the police unions for not attempting to “heal the fracture”.

Turned over to Fox…they are just lovin’ it…Obama does NOT do well off of his teleprompter…I mean, he’s dangerous.

spin doesn't win   July 24th, 2009 - 12:46 pm

…actually thanks to daily President Obama-bashing web sites like Breitbart should APOLOGIZE for creating the ‘media furor’.

If Andrew Breitbart were black, showed his wallet to police who racially profiled him all his life….THEN Andy baby was arrested for
“breaking into” his own home — then this stupid site would be just
wall-to-wall crying like Glenn Beck about racism.

Bravo you guys –

Breitbart, Fox News et al …took an eloquent speech Wednesday night – showing how both your beloved, dogmatic REPUBLICANS and DEMOCRATS are working together to reform America’s over-priced, antiquated healthcare…

and instead you took a moral dilemma about a guy in Boston and twisted it all around!

This incident is further proof thug cops need to be rotated every 3-6 WEEKS back behind a desk – to keep them humbled, fair and equal with
the rest of society.

Chunga   July 24th, 2009 - 12:47 pm

Imagine if a white president had a knee jerk reaction in defense of a white cop or a white man being arrested by a black cop! Oh the tidal wave of accusations and finger pointing. It would go on for months. Al Sharpton and the rest of the victimologists’ heads would explode.

blackirishblonde   July 24th, 2009 - 12:47 pm

Our POTUS acted and spoke like “a Community Organizer” when he said the Cambridge Police acted stupidly and were racial profiling!!!! He has spent to many years with the likes of Reverend Wright, Bill Ayers and Professor “potty mouth” Gates. He assumed immediately that Officer Crowley was in the wrong–who was really profiling here??? Please President Obama start acting like a President!!!!

jihn f   July 24th, 2009 - 12:47 pm

Ah yes, Rev(It’s racism) Al and Jesse will be proud. The Messiah grabs the torch. Somehow it just had to be, but the lemmings just couldn’t admit it was gonna happen. Welcome to Obama’s world. It finally came out.

Gates isn’t above the law, even if he is a professor, intelligent in other regards. Crowley did his job. Barack Obama should say publicly: “Nobody is above the law, and my friend Gates has to respect an officer who is doing his duty.” If this officer is proven to have been a racist, then we will look into this, but if this is just a case of paranoid hysteria plus mental fatigue on the part of Gates, then he (Gates) will have to apologize to the officer who diligently abode by the law to serve and protect.

Obama is a jackass and a racist!

And a whole bunch of you people are responsible for putting him where he is now….. enjoy the change now!

John   July 24th, 2009 - 12:50 pm

The president won’t apologize. But rest assured that if this FINE police Officer loses his job, there will be MANY AMERICANS who will support him in SUEING this jackass gates and the president. Probably have to wait until the preisdent only 1 term ends to sue but , we’re patient. And tired of criminals in government and in our once fine teaching establishment. That sounded like a threat: “You don’t know who you’re dealing with”. Threatening a police officer.
Anyway, I will apologize for this president. Since I am HIS BOSS, I will speak for him. Sorry Officer Crowley. Excuse me its Sargeant Crowley. Please accept my apology for his rude, disrespectful and completely uncalled for behaviour.
If he gives you anymore trouble, please let us, the AMERICAN people know. We will try to straighten him out. And he is difficult because he just doesn’t get the simple things. Maybe needs to go to a proper school and learn reality. Again, Im sorry. Hopefully he will not do it again and be more respectful.
And I apologize to the country for him, both gates and pres bo. Seems that we in this country need to also educate ourselves as to who we elect. (I did not elect him, but As part of this once great (and can be again) country, I take responsibility for this disaster and am working to fix it by next election. I can’t apologize enough for this rude president behavior.

Mossy   July 24th, 2009 - 12:50 pm

We should be proud of our police force. They put their lives on the line every day. This situation has turned racist because of a racist professor and racist president of the U.S. Obama clearly should apologize to all law enforcement officers in America.

I’ve said since day ONE when this illegal Kenyan Muslim usurper was SELECTED by Big Commie Media, that he would set race relations in this country back 60 years.

greg   July 24th, 2009 - 12:51 pm

I am happy for Obama.. He is exposing the Dems and Liberals for what they are a bunch of liars, crooks, cheats, thugs, racist, and hypocritical bigots. Thanks to Obama the Democratic party will be damaged for decades. Thank goodness we have some checks and balances in this country that will prevent this madman from further promoting his slime ball agenda. Hopefully he will be a lame duck from here on out.

OBAMA IS A RACIST!!!!!!!

CONCERNED AMERICAN VETERAN   July 24th, 2009 - 12:52 pm

Well, well, well. Before he knew all the facts, the annointed one already had made up his mind. It was the policeman’s fault. But then again, what do you expect from a community organizer from Chicago? I hope the loons that put this guy in the White House are starting to see the CHANGE. Hey loons, do you like it so far?

Terri   July 24th, 2009 - 12:52 pm

I’m shocked and surprised to hear a black President of the USA, an elected office, imply that white America is still racial.

Further, the cop is a government employee. He must be qualified and have the proper attitude if he got through the affirmative action programs.

I believe it is gender deal, not race. Cops mostly bust the chops of men. It’s what they do.

I’ve experienced poor treatment by cops myself as white guy. I do not have a Phd like Gates, but I have two graduate degrees.

My Latin wife, when she breaks a law, cops ask for her telephone number.

Jason   July 24th, 2009 - 12:52 pm

Yes, this certainly exposes how much reverse-racism there is in this country. The police can’t even do their job now without the president saying that they act stupidly. If Professor Gates wants to get angry at someone, maybe he should get angry at the neighbor who called the police in the first place. Sgt Crowley was just doing his job and he and the entire department deserve an apology from the Harvard Hot Head and the White House Know It All.

Rob Tackes   July 24th, 2009 - 12:52 pm

Ladeez and Gentlepersons. This was a stupid thing for the officer to do. Hey, it was the guy’s own house. Police get a bit too uppity with all their uniformed power.

jerry   July 24th, 2009 - 12:53 pm

Obama’s true feeling were exposed and that being he obviously has no respect for law inforcement and I would go as far to say neither does he have respect for anything in this Country because he wasn’t even born here. He is only concerned about his own personal gain and destruction of America!!!!!!!!

CommonSense   July 24th, 2009 - 12:53 pm

Gates and Obama, they can’t see past their own skin color….”typical” black men.

chuck barry   July 24th, 2009 - 12:54 pm

I think Obama and Gates need to apologize to all police officers for their actions. Mr Gates also needs to apologize to the police officers mother as well. I think that they should also apologize for playing the race card to everyone other than african americans for showing their true hatred towards european americans. I am calling myself that now because everyone else wants us to be politically correct and so should they then!!! Police officers have a hard enough time without people playing the race card. If you are acting like an idiot to the police officer who is called their to protect your property you dont go mouthing off to him,. Anyone knows that.. There is no excuse for anyone to yell ” its because I am a black man in american” and ” I will talk to your mama!” then gets on the phone and tells that person that your dealing with a racist police officer. The only racist I see in this situation is the Gates and Obama.. They can’t either keep acting like we are the slave owners ( seeing as I have not known anyone one of us as slave owners) or they can start singing a different tune. I really think that too much of the pastor rubbed off on Obama and now the American people are starting to see his true color or should I say the way he sees his true colors, us european americans.
Remember our forefathers and what they made for us Americans. Obama is taking this all way, unless we stand up. Our colors should never run in a true America and from what I see Obama has smeared them all over and spit in the faces of uniformed officers!!!!Apologize Socialist!!!!!

GiGi   July 24th, 2009 - 12:54 pm

A liberal apologize??? (especially the obamas’) They are in your face racist anti-Americans and have led other racists blacks to feel empowered (i.e. have the “kiss my black ass” attitude.

Sad to see the waste of an opportunity to set a good example and give positive encouragement to the young blacks who are living like savages, commiting crimes and turning good neighborhoods into third world countries.

keep it up obama and you will have your revolution!

fwiw imho   July 24th, 2009 - 12:55 pm

Leandra   July 24th, 2009 - 12:55 pm

Why was the professor not happy that someone actually cared enough to check on his home and safety? He’d been out of town. Most people I believe would be happy someone checked it out.

Police officers put their lives on the line every day. The officer needed him to step out so he could make sure of “both” their safties

He had to be sure 1st that if this man really was the professor, that there were not 2 other individuals the prof was unaware of in the residence that meant him harm, and he needed to be sure that if this wasn’t the home owner that the “2nd” individual that was mentioned in the call did not jump him.

It was all about safety and ensuring that the citizen and the officer both got to sleep in their own beds safe that night.

I don’t understand anger when this was such a simple request and neighbors were concerned enough about a house that had been vacant for a fwe months sudddenly having activity. Not a race issue. A safety issue.

FUBAR   July 24th, 2009 - 12:55 pm

How can we expect a white police officer to be as wise as a latino woman? Maybe if he had been he would acted “better” and not “stupidly”. Shame on the Cambridge police department for not hiring only minority cops—then maybe this whole sad situation could have been avoided.

The UnknownComic   July 24th, 2009 - 12:56 pm

Chef   July 24th, 2009 - 12:58 pm

By the way, who set up the rules?
How can a racist with no birth certificate become President?
Tighten up the rules and eligibility to become President and this won’t happen again.

mrunpc   July 24th, 2009 - 12:59 pm

For all of you, inlcuding OBAMA, who keep referring to him as “BLACK”…well, here’s a little newsflash for you.

Barack Hussein Obama was born to an all WHITE mother in KENYA, AFRICA. His mother’s “sperm donor” was a black Kenyan/Brit who abandoned little Barry when he was TWO YEARS OLD. He was mostly raised by his ALL WHITE grandparents and yet this illegal Kenyan Muslim MULATTO doesn’t even so much as RECOGNIZE his White heritage.

So, just WHO’s racist? I rest my case.

Papa Ray   July 24th, 2009 - 12:59 pm

The President said that “cooler heads should prevail”, must be directed entirely at his friend, Professor Gates. From reading the police reports and reports by witnesses, it is apparent that Gates was spoiling for a fight and altercation from the moment the police arrived.

This Professor, has spent a lifetime teaching others how to be victims and how to push back the white man, the establishment; for Black Equality. Well, it is apparent that he found out that there is a limit on black entitlement and affirmative action when he was arrested for disturbing the peace while standing on his front porch screaming and ranting like and totally out of control.

But the truth of the matter is that he has been screaming and ranting racism for so long (it is his job at the university) that he has lost sight of how to conduct himself in public when in the middle of an investigation by officers of the law of a reported crime in progress.

He should learn what every citizen who has ever been in this situation now knows: You cooperate, you treat the officers involved with respect, you do not say things to them that involve their family or their race or intentionally try and anger them. You do not scream and froth at the mouth when there are other people present that will testify that you acted crazy or angry, or that will be upset at your display of anger and stupidity.

If you do, you will most likely be arrested as this Professor learned to his dismay.

Just so there is no misunderstanding as to my position and thinking on this, I think and believe that the Professor should have went before the Judge to determine his punishment. I do not think the charges should have been dropped. It shows preferential treatment in a Justice system that is not supposed to give preferential treatment to anyone.

Papa Ray
West Texas
P.S. If you read the reports [2] you will see that the Officer did give the Professor his name at least two times per witnesses, although the Officer said that he told him his name [3] times. It appears that the Professor wouldn’t shut up long enough to listen to whatever the Officer had to say according to a witness.

I’m so glad Crowley is out talking about this in public. Can’t wait for the tapes. Crowley will make a lot of fans with the public. This is not going away. Obama will try to destroy him like Joe the Plumber, but this one will backfire. THIS might be his NEXT Waterloo, but not his last. Gosh. This is fun. We have another 3 1/2 years to just let this guy show us who he really is. All we need is him to continue doing press conferences. We don’t have to convince anybody of anything. He’ll do it for himself.

Barry Soetoro Obama hates the US and so does his wife, and his statement calling the
Cambridge Police Department stupid only confirms his hatred toward this
great country. I applaud Sgt. Crawley for saying that Obama was off base with his
statement without knowing all the facts. This shows that Obama makes statement
without knowing the facts like he did with the Healthcare Bill or Carbon Tax.
Soetoro Obama is a master of deception, but the Americal people are not
stupid and are slowing realizing who this guy really is.

Nekguda   July 24th, 2009 - 1:00 pm

The thing is that you all seem to pick and choose your facts as much as you claim the president is. Why did the officer ask the professor to step outside after it was established that the house was indeed his? The officer in an interview said the reason….because he knew he could not arrest him in his own home. IS this how the police are supposed to act in our country? I thought that a man’s home was his castle? What happened to that notion in this country? The police had no right to be in that man’s home once it was established that it was his home. Also why did the officer ask for two forms of ID from the professor to prove who he was? I have had few interactions with the police but when I did I was never asked for more than a drivers license to prove my identity. Now I am not saying that this officer was profiling, but if he was not then why more than one form of ID? Indeed as some have pointed out there are facts in this case, but let us not forget that facts are always tainted by our own interpretation of the experience. Now that being said, the president could have indeed chosen better words to express himself, but I think many of us should choose our words wisely before jumping to the snap judgment that many have accused the president of doing himself.

If you remember Obama was unable to admit the surge worked and that he was wrong in opposing it. If he doesn’t issue an apology to the Cambridge police, it will become apparent to most Amercians that something ain’t right with Obama psychologically and it will most assuredly hurt him politically.

I can’t blame cops for thinking twice about bothering to follow up on call in black neigborhoods. Tough enough they have worry about getting shot, now they have to worry about getting dragged through the press and destroyed by the President of the United States.

Obama’s irresponsible comments without the facts, endangers police across America by conferring upon blacks the right protest any interaction with police because of alleged past transgressions.
BTW- don’t overlook the implication of his ‘joke’ that he, a black man, would in fact be shot on sight by the police that protect him. An attempt to demonstrate that even the president, because he is black, is subject to racial profiling.

ann martin   July 24th, 2009 - 1:06 pm

How exactly?
He said arresting Gates was “stupid”.
I don’t fault the officer at all for going there and demanding to see some ID. It also sounds to me like Gates may have been a little provocative and testy.
Still, where is the justification for an arrest?
He didn’t break the law of disorderly conduct, which is defined in Mass. as “fighting or threatening, violent or tumultuous behavior, or creating a hazardous or physically offensive condition for no legitimate purpose other than to cause public annoyance or alarm”. The law is aimed not at mere irascibility but rather at unruly behavior likely to set off wider unrest.
While Gates may have acted like a pain in the butt, it doesn’t sound like Gates was guilty of actual disorderly conduct.

If he wasn’t guilty of disorderly conduct, how is arresting him for disorderly conduct not stupid?

Why did the cop ask him to step outside? The cop mentioned the possibility, when faced with an irate homeowner, that Mr. Gates himself didn’t know a breakin occured and that those involved were still in the house undetected. In that case the officer would have Gates leave the house, for his own safety, until police could check the premises.

HE WAS NOT PLANNING ON ARRESTING HIM AT THIS POINT – HE NEEDED HIM OUT TO TRANMIT FACTS ABOUT WHAT WAS HAPPENING AND DUE TO HIM YELLING IT WAS DIFFICULT – THERE IS ALSO THE ISSUE OF IF THE HOUSE HAD BEEN SEARCHED OR IF IT WAS DETERMINED IF THERE WAS A POSSIBILITY OF ANYONE BEING IN THE HOUSE REGARDLESS OF THE HOMEOWNER BEING AWARE OF IT.

What happened to that notion in this country? The police had no right to be in that man’s home once it was established that it was his home. NOT TRUE – WHEN THERE IS A CALL ABOUT A POSSIBLE CRIME THE POLICE ARE IN INVESTIGATION ROLE – THEY NEED TO PERFORM THEIR DUTIES BEFORE THEY RELENT TO OUR PRIVACY TO ENSURE OUR SAFTY AND TO ALSO ENSURE THEIR DUE DILIGENCE. IF HE HAD LEFT AND THERE WERE BURGLERS HIDDEN IN THE HOUSE THE POLICE WOULD BE LIABLE FOR NOT ENSURING THE RACIST PROFESSORS SAFETY

Also why did the officer ask for two forms of ID from the professor to prove who he was? THE IDEA THAT YOU EVEN NEED TO ASK THIS SHOWS HOW CLUELESS YOU ARE ABOUT THE FACTS OF A CALL LIKE THIS. THE PROFESSOR GAVE HIM A COLLEGE ID CARD (WTF?) THE OFFICER HAS NO WAY TO IMMEDIATELY KNOW THE NAME OF THE OWNER OR EVEN IF HE WERE THE OWNER THERES NO WAY TO KNOW IF MAYBE HE’S A ESTRANGED EXHUSBAND WHO BROKE IN AND SHOULDN’T BE THERE – HE NEEDED SOMETHING WITH AN ADDRESS.

I have had few interactions with the police but when I did I was never asked for more than a drivers license to prove my identity. YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN ASKED IF YOU HAD GIVEN THE COPS A LIBRARY CARD OR COLLEGE CAMPUS ID

Now I am not saying that this officer was profiling, but if he was not then why more than one form of ID? SEE ABOVE – ALSO THIS GUY IS A CREDIBLE INSTRUCTOR AT THE POLICE ACADEMY ABOUT PROFILING POLICY. AND TO CALM THE RACE BAITERS – HE WAS GIVEN THAT POSITION BY A BLACK OFFICER.

Mulatto denotes a person with one white parent and one black parent or a person who has both black ancestry and white ancestry. The term may be perceived as pejorative in some cultures and situations.

How dare this man (he was black, lets not forget) actually get pissed and show emotion in HIS OWN HOME.

You cannot be arrested for screaming at a cop in your own home especially after you showed proof you lived there.

On the other hand:
He had audacity and I guess he forgot what world he lived in. He has to learn, he cannot actually get pissed at cops even in his own home. He has to allow them to handcuff him, call him out of his porch and arrest him for uh….what again?

oh yeah, “tumultuous behavior”

What in the world does “tumultuous behavior” mean? Is that police jargon for being yelled at by a furious middle-aged scholar, armed with a cane, who feels he’s caught someone in the act of committing racism? From the officer’s report: “Gates continued to yell at me, accusing me of racial bias and continued to tell me that I had not heard the last of him.”

OK, it’s possible that the cops arrested Gates because they’re the kind of cops (see The Wire, any season) who respond to being wrong—and especially to being hectored about being wrong—by getting angry.

Here’s how yesterday’s event played out for all you Kool Aid drinking Messiah Sycophants.
Obama’s apology is about as sincere as Jeffrey Dahmer apologizing for being a glutton. His initial assessment was injudicious at worst, goofy at best. He acknowleged yesterday to having raised this to a Cuban Missle like crisis, and that he could have “Calibrated his words better.” Who the h*ll calibrates their words, other than a bullsh*tter? Kind of like Sotomayor’s “Rhetorical Flourish” when explaining her wise Latina goof.
Here’s yesterday’s scenario. 8 A.M.: Rahmbo comes into the Oval Office and says, “Mr. Messiah, the heat is getting too high. The Boston cops are going to hold an afternoon press conference, and express their outrage. You will clearly lose the support of policemen, firemen and postal workers if you stick to your guns. So casually walk out to Dilbert Gibbs daily press conference and act cool and nonchalant. Apologize, and invite your bud Skip Gates, and this racist mother f*cking cop down here to have a beer and make up. The libloons all over the country will praise you, and say how refreshing it is to see a POTUS admit to a mistake, particularly after 8 years of that idiot Bush. The folks in Boston will be fooled even more than the rest of the country, because of your Harvard connection, and their blind adoration of you as a dedicated socialist. After this pow wow, you can have Apple Martinis and Brie with Skip a few weeks later on Martha’s Vineyard(Where the Messiah is scheduled to vacation, and Gates has a summer home amidst the white liberal loons), and excoriate this racist motherf*cking cop for all it’s worth, and no one will know. It never ceases to amaze me how the “race card” is continued to be played and how this utterly lame, dishonest and useless trick is perpetrated against all Americans of every color and race. Mr. Gates skin color had nothing to do with his arrest yet the President of The United States of America, the President of all the people, further encourages this travesty, this lie and constant insult to all the people of our nation.
The damage done by Mr. Obama is absolute. His own arrogance and “stupidity” have added fuel to this fire… this fire which should have been snuffed out with words of reconciliation, kindness and wisdom. So what happened? Well the wrong man was elected President last November. In short, that’s what happened and it is quite apparent in the 7 months since he and that Jug-Head Biden were placed in office this country has gone communist. Laugh all you want but in the former Soviet Union 13 million communist party members controlled the rest of the entire country. It cannot be the will of this entire nation to dessimate law enforcement officers and discredit our entire nation as racists! I for one am sick and tired of this nonsense and disgusted by this foolish rhetoric from the White House.

poetopoet   July 26th, 2009 - 2:27 am

The tale of an anarchistic, narcotic and parasitic narcissistic ruler of a great nation was told not that long ago, in Mein Kampf and Zweites Buch. Conversely by the President of the United States who also printed two books, Dreams of my Father and The Audacity of Hope. Not by accident, I think; they believe in the same thing kind-of, to reach their ends in black and white. All Americans should be well aware of this fact, I believe.

But the divisions, the President of these United States insists on employing, be that of health care, the budget or the simple Gates issue of a helpless black homeowner to cheap or reactionary to fix his front door after being broken into previously and the white police officer of impeccable credentials, he called stupid. Exacerbates the issue of black against white and right against wrong; I call to Americas attention, Hail Hitler (joke).

Obama’s tactics, tried and true, all failures in history; he wants to repeat on America.
When does a self confessed, crack smoking, cocaine user rule a great or any nation? Regrettably, currently and only in America could this happen. I pray to God, the Jesus type, to save us, before we all kill each other. This is a test, a wake up call, don’t be alarmed, go back to sleep and watch ABC, CBS, NBC, the current level of education.

come on, the cop went to far, he is supposed to be trained, and who is that 3rd generation cop who looked fat and couldn’t even tie his tie. appearance says a lot, sloppy tie, sloppy work ethic. i have see it many times, just like the fat generals in the army, they should be gone. the case was dropped, doesn’t that say it all? unions, no tough skin i guess. but they are cops, aren’t they supposed to be tough??? feeling get hurt every day, lessons are learned every day.
