Cambridge Officer/Dispatch Audio: ‘He Is Not Cooperative’

"The gentlemen says he resides here."

Editor's note: Boston University's Richard Landes joins us via webcam from Jerusalem to discuss cultural implications of the Cambridge police incident. You can find the video in the related links section below.

Officer was respectful from the very beginning and Gates was hateful, foul, elitist, moronic, confrontational, entitled, insulting, racist, racial profiling of the white officer, etc, from the beginning. Now which one should apologize to whom?

Scott   July 27th, 2009 - 1:22 pm

The racially motivated President owes this officer an apology on NATIONAL TV where he made these disparing comments about the CPD and Officer Crowley.

TecumsehSherman   July 27th, 2009 - 1:23 pm

I agree with you 100%. Both during the incident, and especially after the fact, Gates was trying to trigger an incident. He was baiting the cop to do exactly what he did, and has proven himself a clown.

On the other side, however, Mass General Law states that an officer MUST provide identification upon request. The officer failed to do so, and found himself in violation of the law. The law must always be bi-directional, it needs to keep the people safe from each other, and from the government.

Gates should be laughed at, as is happening nationally now.

The cop needs to be disciplined, and reminded that he is not empowered to decide which laws he adheres to (particularly the ones which regulate his behavior and not the public’s).

The Vicery   July 27th, 2009 - 1:27 pm

Neighbor and officer 100% vindicated. Gates and Obama acted “stupidly”.

Jebber   July 27th, 2009 - 1:27 pm

What a baiting job by both 911 operator and Gates. Both 911 caller and Crowley were doing their jobs as citizens and law enforcement. BO has his own MO – the Press Conference question was planted on purposes by Admin.

Gary   July 27th, 2009 - 1:27 pm

The fragment from the recording tells little, but the Officer certainly seems respectful. Obama owes the nation an apology.

flog a dead horse   July 27th, 2009 - 1:28 pm

ENOUGH! Breitbart is just gonna run this crap into the ground, right?

Obama apologized — AND even invited Gates and the dogmatic cop over
for a beer. It’s done! GET OVER THIS! It’s not NEWS! Never was!

It’s an oooold story…

But, oh that’s right…this site is reserved for the Grand OLD Party – so, of course — you need to hear things repeated over and over.

America is now waiting for the GOP-led media to apologize for making this
nonsense a headline to begin with — as it does NOT resemble ANYTHING close to being a newsworthy item…

There’s nothing anyone can do about this dustup – except those involved.

Ever since Reagan, however, the US is bombarded with moral dilemmas in which we have no decision in the outcome – disguised as *news*.

THIS IS NOT NEWS. Think of all the REAL news Americans don’t get when this tired commentary gets repeated over and over and over….

Ronnie must be so proud of the GOP’s always-distracting non-headlines!

Kim   July 27th, 2009 - 1:28 pm

I believe both the POTUS and Professor Gates should apologize to the Officer. This President is causing racial problems in the US. After listening to the 911 call, the caller was beyond polite and nice and appeared the 911 Officer had an attitude. I imagine when everything else is released it will be a hinder to the POTUS.

Apology Demanded!   July 27th, 2009 - 1:29 pm

Obama & Gates owe the “whitey” (as Gates has called ‘white’ people) police officer an apology – they also owe all law enforcement officers an apology for accusing them of racism when they are the ones with the foul attitude.

Just look at the picture of Gates freaking out when he is arrested and the sane black man in the front of the picture!

Mike   July 27th, 2009 - 1:30 pm

Now who “acted stupidly”? Oh, right, the two racists. The President and the Professor.

Divide and Conquer   July 27th, 2009 - 1:31 pm

Welcome to the Obama Nation.

Wacky Baracky – if there was ever any doubt he’s out of the closet now.

Race-baitin’ pieces of ….

See our site for relief for the common Liberal.

who is the real racist?   July 27th, 2009 - 1:32 pm

‘flog a dead horse’ commented said “Obama apologized — AND even invited Gates and the dogmatic cop over for a beer. It’s done! GET OVER THIS! It’s not NEWS! Never was! It’s an oooold story…”

What in the world? No he didn’t apologize. He said he regretted that his comments were a big deal! Notice your disdain for this honest cop as you call him “the dogmatic cop” that is Officer Crowley to you!

Who is the real racist?

trintrin   July 27th, 2009 - 1:32 pm

TecumsehSherman

I think if you read that law that an officer must provide identification it does not say he has to do it in any specific time. I am sure he provided it on the arrest report. A criminal or suspected criminal can not demand a cop stop doing what he is doing and pull out his wallet.

Remember this whole time that cop did not know if there was another guy hiding in the house.

Eddie   July 27th, 2009 - 1:32 pm

Say what you want about Fox News but I’d bet you won’t hear this tape and the original call in 911 tape played very many times on “Couric News”, MSNBC and CNN! Well, maybe after midnight but surely not prime time!

danske   July 27th, 2009 - 1:32 pm

of course he wasn’t cooperative. Welcome to ChicagoLand, America. Welcome to your “diverse” and “multicultural” future.

New World Order   July 27th, 2009 - 1:33 pm

Is Obama going to ration health care on the same race based guidelines giving certain privileges groups with greater access just because of their race? This president is a disgrace and his policies are aimed to destroy the white people who is hates.

blackirishblonde   July 27th, 2009 - 1:33 pm

Lets hear all of this tape!!!!! You know who was ranting and yelling!!!!!! Yeap another of President Obama’s friend.

Infuriated   July 27th, 2009 - 1:33 pm

I demand an apology from Obama & Gates!

Guy   July 27th, 2009 - 1:33 pm

I”m a black male, and I have to admit, the Cops were acting correctly, and Obama, and his croonies owe our great nation, and its Police Dept, an apology. Nuff said. I’m sooo tired of my black people. They are the most racists people on the planet.

jeff   July 27th, 2009 - 1:35 pm

Hey “Flogadeadhorse” – Thank God someone on the left see’s it this way. I assume you will lead the Democrat’s charge to halt trying to bring Bush and Cheney up on criminal charges…. Or Rumsfeld on war crimes…. It’s a two way street my friend and while your boy is in the white house, the GOP gets to play arm chair QB. The game is afoot. How does it taste?

angealone   July 27th, 2009 - 1:35 pm

I do NOT think Sar. Crowley should MEET for a ridiculous beer! This only TRIVIALIZES this WHOLE situation!! It only helps Obama and Gates! It puts them on EQUAL Playing fields when Sar. Crowley is guilt of NOTHING!! I am very disappoointed with the Mayor’s office NOW throwing a press conference Basically Appologizing! a complete REVERSAL of what they gathered about prior! Gates is a RACIST as proof in his Yale Application calling caucasions “whitey” – also a YOU TUBE video surfaced of Gates Spewing Racial Hatred in a church (yah, de ja vue?) and lastly, him getting on CNN and telling us that he is “horrified and astonished to find out he has 57% white genes in him!!!” IM SORRY, but FACTS do not lie. HIS WORDS in all of them!! Crowley should NOT meet!!!

CommonSense   July 27th, 2009 - 1:36 pm

Barrack Obama Hates White People

arhooley   July 27th, 2009 - 1:37 pm

NO, “flog a dead horse,” Obama did not apologize. He tried to cover his azz with some wishy-washy “I could have calibrated my words differently.” (You know, since we morons actually think “stupid” means “stupid.”) Obama should apologize UNCONDITIONALLY and take back his stupid, racist comment. But he won’t, because he’s the wise, post-racial healer.

eeentropyyy   July 27th, 2009 - 1:37 pm

Gates was arrested for a crime he did not commit and the officer knew it. The officer detained Gates without cause and refused to provide id therefore he acted stupidly.

Obama shouldn’t have appoligized.

If you think the cop was in the right, then you have no right to complain when you are unlawfully detained.

Tom Bop   July 27th, 2009 - 1:38 pm

flog a dead horse– when and where did BO apologize? Has he said “I’m sorry” or “I was wrong” yet?? What does I should have re-calibrated word mean? You re-calibrate instruments or measuring devices. It sounds like he was trying to say ‘My statement (that police acted stupidly) was correct, but I just got the wrong shade of nuance.’ I don’t see how that’s an apology; can you please explain better?

orinocle   July 27th, 2009 - 1:39 pm

The cop is a liar!! Cop’s written report full of fiction and disinformation..Cop should be fired!!!

Darla   July 27th, 2009 - 1:40 pm

This whole thing was a set up starting with the planted question at the Obamacare
presser. Only thing was, I think it sort of Back fired and now people who did
not pay attention to the healthcare spew realize that they had better start
paying attention. How come Barry didn’t go after Barbara Boxhead and her comments
to Mr. Alford?

Alan   July 27th, 2009 - 1:40 pm

It’s time to reclaim what was once a beautiful land. Our cities are being turned into third-world slums. Our politics is a circus. Our [re]education system is a joke. Our borders are non-existent.

The majority is the majority for a reason. Without a European identity, this country will fall to ruins. Every white knows it, but is afraid to speak for fear of being stigmatized and demonized.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwNuzIXoFJI

orinocle   July 27th, 2009 - 1:41 pm

Cops always making excuses for their incompetence..Always shooting unarmed Black males and then having the audacity to seek pity from taxpayers for thier clusters..This cop should be fired ASAP for filing a false report!!!

Just a Citizen   July 27th, 2009 - 1:42 pm

Notice how liberals say it’s over, lets move on. It’s clear that when you’re caught red handed (as a liberal) you want it to end. BUT if the shoe were on the other foot, they would beat this thing to death blasting conservatives, whites, police officers anybody they can spew their garbage over. It’s getting old this double standard. We won’t have equality until racist like wright, Obungler and gates go away……

anticommie   July 27th, 2009 - 1:43 pm

Hey flogged, you forgot to link your website link to black panthers association.

Obama ratcheted this up by his racist and inflamatory remarks. He acted “stupidly”

Gates, much like Obama’s many other associations are race baiters nothing more!

So much for Martin Luthers wish that Americans would be judged based on their character and not the color of their skin.

If Obama and his like minded racists wish to get beyond the racist rhetoric, then I suggest he and his bloggers get beyond the divisions that tear us apart. This is not limited to race but also includes the division of citizens based on gender, class envy, and character assasination which the dems use daily as shown yet again by this latest race baiting issue!

orinocle   July 27th, 2009 - 1:44 pm

Alan the majority are cowards got butt kicked in Vietnam , Iraq ..Nobody pays attention to penis envy white maes rants..get lost you coward..WHite males bravo..what a joke..lol,lol,lol..All white males do is beat up thier wives and bomb federal buidings with child care centers and tryshot each other in schools and sell sex on the internet…The majority yeah right..BOO!

jeff   July 27th, 2009 - 1:44 pm

Orinocle – Put the crack pipe down and step back slowly. BTW – Cops don’t shoot unarmed Black males to seek pity from taxpayers. They do it for fun! That my friend, is just as stupid as your comments. Quit using your nutsack as a brain.

Joe   July 27th, 2009 - 1:45 pm

Not enough info but the 911 caller who was accused of racial profiling for placing the 911 call was definitely not race influenced. The race baiters get called on the carpet again. So the story of the little boy who cried wolf will now be replaced by little Barack who cried racism. No way Obama apologizes to whitey.

orinocle   July 27th, 2009 - 1:46 pm

Obama was 1000000000000000000000% correct stupid cops!!! Now we find out cops was a liar in his written report!!!

The Viceroy   July 27th, 2009 - 1:46 pm

In response to dead horse: If I were the oficer, I would not want to sit and drink a beer with two racists, especially if one is POTUS. The left has been complaining for years about racist presidents. Well, now you really have one, only he is one of your own. It became newsworthy when your boy opened his fat mouth and demeaned the nation’s police officers. All of his B S over the past two years is just that. He is a run of the mill race hustler like Jackson / Sharpton only with a more polished exterior. Its all well and good. At least the American people all have a clearer understanding of where they stand with this clown. Enjoy the next 3 1/2 years.

fly4vino   July 27th, 2009 - 1:47 pm

Obama’s offer for the police officer to come to the whitehouse for a little 2 on 1 session with the president was an absurd offer. Probably something Obama learned from his days in Chicago licking the feet of old Weathermen bombers.

If Obama was sincere he would have asked to come and sit in on roll call at the Cambridge station.

Obama’s true feeling are a reflection of his lifelong association with the radical left including Rev Wright. It’s also interesting that the Obama campaign waited until he was running for president to finally pay a decades old collection of parking tickets.

Orinocle   July 27th, 2009 - 1:47 pm

orinocle, Are you jsut trying to be funny or are you really a TOTAL MORON.

B.J.   July 27th, 2009 - 1:48 pm

A case could be made that the professor was primed and ready, is always primed and ready, has devoted his life to race matters, has a vested interest in coaching others to engage by way of highlighted examples to indulge in reactive aspects of hatred for “whitey” as he has used that term, but calling it history, probably wants to see racism first and foremost, might even be in love with it because it’s a definition he doesn’t want to let go of because then what… and Professor Gate’s is therefore hair-trigger ready at the presence of a white police officer to defend what he might actually cherish as his life’s-blood definition. His racial animus is probably so much a part of him that it was already at the surface ready to unleash in verbal assault.

Now here comes the white police officer ( “whitey” to use the distinguished professor’s documented term) to a home that has a front door broken in, supporting the call that a crime is in progress. The officer is a public servant putting his life on the line. How many free wheeling verbally rambling political commentators know what it feels like to be of community service in this regard? One gun shot away from your loved ones as widowed and fatherless. Two men reported breaking into a home… You wanna check it out?

I don’t believe the police officer responding to a potential crime scene, with nerves a bit heightened but steady just the same, deserved a livid racial berating because he wasn’t black. How about “guilty of investigating a potential crime scene while being white” ? I’d like to see the media cover that angle. Asking for verification is a necessary part of completing an investigation. You can’t take a person’s word for it because it isn’t verification for the documentation. So it’s procedure just like scanning an 80 year old white lady at the airport.

When Gates followed Sgt Crowley out of the house continuing his hate-filled tirade, he was pushing his conduct. Sgt. Crowley who has taught racial sensitivity courses to police officers, probably would have had less reservation arresting a white person. Cuffs are also procedure in an arrest, and the cuffs in front were showing deference.

Paul   July 27th, 2009 - 1:49 pm

Is anyone surprised that Obama and Gates are lying?

YaGottaBeKiddingMe   July 27th, 2009 - 1:49 pm

Look “Flog ur Pony”, The GOP did write the words on Obama’s teleprompter. If any party generated the spin
on this story it is the Obama camp trying to divert the focus of the bankrupting of America through Nationalized
Healthcare and Cap & Trade legislation.

Don’t confuse the facts. Typical liberal, Front page accusations, Page D-8 retraction and apology.

No Change at all!

bob roberts   July 27th, 2009 - 1:49 pm

No more stupid, self important, 11th grade educated, cousin marrying tool then an american police officer. I truly hate america and I am in glee every day I read about more evidence of its continuing fall into oblivion. Now what happened to the idea your home is your castle, I guess that doesn’t count when some pathetic minimum wage earning cop demands you show id, you show id even if you are in your own living room at the time. Why do you american morons still pretend you guys have a constitution. You continue this lie despite the fact police in Texas legally seize money from motorists and use it to go to Hawaii, airport guards can interrogate passengers about where their money comes from and the fact that if you lie to a federal officer of any kind about absolutely anything who shows up on your doorstep you can go to jail for a decade. America is a lie and a con job.

MD   July 27th, 2009 - 1:50 pm

Quote from Gates’ Yale U application:

“As always, whitey now sits in judgment of me, preparing to cast my fate. It is your decision either to let me blow with the wind as a nonentity or to encourage the development of self. Allow me to prove myself.”

Mr. Gates you have “proven” yourself to be obsessed with race and have used it to make your fortune in life! Too bad for you that you met an honest cop in this scam!

BobC   July 27th, 2009 - 1:51 pm

That cop needs to sue that nasty creep into the ground. And as for Obama–I voted for him–won’t happen again.

Shantika   July 27th, 2009 - 1:51 pm

Obama used this situation to try to score some cheap points on race issues. He showed himself to be a racist. I wish I knew this before the election.

yourmomma   July 27th, 2009 - 1:51 pm

Is Barack Obama a racist? Barack called his grandmother a typical white person. What is a typical white person? Barack attends Wright’s Black Liberation Theology church that spews racist hate toward whites. Barack not knowing any of the facts sais the police acted stupidly. Barack Obama is a racist and a Marxist period.

Ron Orf   July 27th, 2009 - 1:51 pm

What a bunch of hypocrites! A guy is in a compound in Waco boogering children and you guys are upset when the feds decide to enter without waiting to let him finish “writing his bible.” At Ruby Ridge you are upset because they actually went after a guy who committed a felony, and shot at them when they came to arrest him. Now, we have a black prof who committed NO CRIME, was in his OWN HOUSE, and proves it, although with an attitude, and you are ALL FOR the policeman who would not identify himself! If this had been a black cop you would be questioning his “attitude” and not the “libertarian” white guy. Obama was right in the first place. Once it had been established it was his place and there had been no crime he should have left. It would be perfectly alright to mutter “what a jerk” as he left, but cops get attitude all the time and do not arrest, so it WAS “stupid.” I watch “COPS” and see then ignore far worse confrontations in every episode. Cops CAN be blustery pricks with a bullying attitude and we all know it. This guy was not that, but we were not there to hear the tone or se the posture of this guy. I really HOPE there IS an audio tape, and I think Gates does also. We do need a teachable moment here, but of course THAT is last thing you people want.

orinocle   July 27th, 2009 - 1:52 pm

This why cops deserve zero respect..They lie on police reports..they create explosive confrontations..They are welfare cheats on the taxpayers dole hiding behind badges seeking pity from folks..I have more respect for 7-11 security guards at least they know ehere the duct tape and plastic is in the store..tee hee

LOD_NYPD   July 27th, 2009 - 1:53 pm

TecumsehSherman – Read the report – the SERGEANT did identify himself – he operated within the purview of the penal law and his department guidelines. Don’t try to will this by any means – having been a police officer for 26 years – I can attest that these BS complaints where the “supposed” victim is an angel is BS. Did you also know that this house was just recently burglarized? Thus Gates could not secure his door properly – hmmmmm. If this was just explained to the reporting officer thsi could have been avoided – the problem is, Gates has been waiting all his life for such a moment – and it backfired!

MidEastVet   July 27th, 2009 - 1:54 pm

orinocle   July 27th, 2009 - 1:54 pm

Gary   July 27th, 2009 - 1:54 pm

TecumsehSherman, the news reports seem to indicate that Sergeant Crowley identified himself the first and second times Professor Gates demanded that he do so, but became “surprised and confused” after the demand was shouted for the third time. The reports I’ve read do not say that Crowley refused to identify himself even at that point, but it seems likely Prof. Gates was belligerent and not listening.

Linnell Dunaway   July 27th, 2009 - 1:54 pm

This is a perfect example of why people don’t get involved when they see something that is possibly wrong. The neighbor was only trying to be helpful and is now being portrayed as a racist. So sad that Mr. Gates was so angry and hateful instead of being grateful someone was trying to protect his home. Kudos to the police who have an impossible job.

MG   July 27th, 2009 - 1:54 pm

We heard that Gates said (and Obama agreed) even through the trouble this has caused we have a “teaching moment” for race relations…
The Teacher has been named, and hes is Jeremiah Wright.

Freddie   July 27th, 2009 - 1:55 pm

Obama the racist and his racist friend. The neighbor calls the cops worried the man’s
(free) house (from Harvard) is getting broken into and gets branded as a racist.

concerned citizen   July 27th, 2009 - 1:55 pm

Our president needs to apologize to all law enforcement officers on live, primetime, national tv… just as publicly as he condemned them. He also needs to tell the American people that “everyone would” NOT “be angry” if an officer responded to a possible robbery in progress at our residence. He needs to tell the American people that the proper response to an officer protecting our property is grattitude, not anger. If he doesn’t do this very publicly, none of us should ever allow our children to be in the room when he holds another live news conference. He sets a very bad, if not dangerous example. He basicly told blacks that they don’t have to cooperate with police… they can blindly accuse them of racism as he did very publicly.

Orinocle   July 27th, 2009 - 1:56 pm

I don’t know if you guys noticed this but THE CHARGES WERE DROPPED. THERE WAS NO CRIME. THE OFFICER ENDANGERED THAT MANS LIFE (people get killed in prisons) FOR NO REASON!

anticommie   July 27th, 2009 - 1:57 pm

Hey orinocle, if you can stop acting like a penile implant long enough to get your facts straight you would see through spin and base your conclusion on facts.

Obama has a track record for implementing reperations to impune the white race. He attempts to load the courts with racists, he spent twenty years under the tutalidge of a racist, he’s a closet muslim, he’s an illigitimate president, his wife was never proud of America until her “boy” was elected, his poll numbers are dropping faster then a rock as REAL Americans discover the reality of who he is and where he is taking this nation! His policies are being rejected left and right by the American majority!

Face the facts and witness his demise!

Calif Dem   July 27th, 2009 - 1:57 pm

Now that we have the tapes, it is 100% clear that this was an incident entirely motivated by racism & racial profiling.
Unfortunately, the racists are Gates & Obama.

myna   July 27th, 2009 - 1:58 pm

Gates has different agenda. He is not different from other race hustler. If there are not conflict with race, their bread and butter will be gone and their relevancy diminish. They have to keep flagging away racial discrimination imaginary or not. Gates could not stand the fact that a white man looks at him in the eyes when Gates consider himself superior. Gates comes here as the biggest racist in this incident.

Crowley should just forget the beer and run for Congress. We need good people to serve and replace all the old crazies in Congress like Barney Frank, Ted Kennedy and John Kerry.

fantum   July 27th, 2009 - 1:58 pm

Obama is a complete jackass.

He is second guessing a policeman who was on the spot when he has no more evidence than the suspect was BLACK! The man (BLACK OR WHITE) should have complied with the officer until he had shown proof of residency. A complaint was made and the officer is REQUIRED to follow up.

Is anyone besides me concerned that we have a president that can’t think before acting, even at the most basic level? Maybe Obama should spend a little more time reading the bills he is pushing so hard rather than screwing over some cop trying to do his duty. The cop is doing a FAR BETTER job than Obama is!!!

America has become a joke nation led by a joke president and a joke congress and soon the joke will be on you as you are taxed into oblivion. (to the tune of “Send in the Clowns”)

Jeff   July 27th, 2009 - 1:58 pm

“ENOUGH! Breitbart is just gonna run this crap into the ground, right?”

Of course they would have never done that with Bush, right?

The election of Obama proves just how stupid Americans have become. Spend huge sums to get out of debt, drive companies out of business to encourage prosperity, support homosexuality and the murder of helpless babies to promote morals, squander our wealth on illegals to gain their respect, exorcise all religious values from the public in the name of liberty.

We would have been better off electing Erkle.

John   July 27th, 2009 - 2:01 pm

Gates and President Obama owe the officer and the Cambridge Police Dept. an apology. Gates can apologize privately because he was an idiot in a fairly private context. But Obama needs to apologize on national television because he insulted the police officer on national television.

Orinocle Your statements are racist and hate filled. You are the kind of liberal that deserves nothing in this world. Shame you were not born in the late 1700s so you could get to experience slavery in a Muslim Country, which the African tribes that captured other African natives and sold them into slavery send many of their victims. Then, you might have appreciation for the GOOD PARTS of being an American rather that just angry insults.

WTF?! I’m good with Waco and Ruby Ridge – they were both long overdue. The Cop did Identify himself and he was standing at the door in the broad daylight in uniform – HELLO!?
And a Libertarian Cop would never say on camera that he was behind Obama 110% – so not sure where that came from – whatever!
He did try to leave and the Racist Professor kept crying about being a black man in America! Waa! Waa!
The Aleged President is Black In AMERICA! Get over yourselves!
I watch “Cops”???? LOL! Now I see where you got your LAW DEGREE! LOL! Well I watched the news about the Black Panthers with sticks out in front of voting offices during the Elections – so I think Black Guys can be angry and racial.
There have been many teachable moments before now smart guy – it’s guys like Sharpton, Jackson, and Gates and his ilk that have kept Black Americans down for many unneeded years.
Wake up and then stand up. And if that doesn’t makes sense I’ll say in Ebonics:
“Free your mind and your a$$ will follow!”

Sadly, this incident has most definately set race relations back at least two decades — and that is because African-American pontificators quickly embraced an outdated, 1960’s-style whining mentality which incorrectly concluded that a “white” complainant (and according to the Boston Herald, the complainant is not white, but is Portuguese and of darker olive skin) had complained only because of race.

We now know that this was a citizen making a sincere, honest report to the police; we know the police responded expediently; and we know that Professor Gates acted like a pompous jerk in response to a police sergeant merely asking routine questions that would be asked of any of us.

How can a police officer “profile” when he or she is dispatched to a location? The real problem, as demonstrated by Gates, is that even purportedly professional African-Americans have great difficulty simply co-existing in a diverse world. The only teaching moment is one in which Gates is the student.

Just The Facts   July 27th, 2009 - 2:08 pm

Obama was right, as president he should have calibrated his remarks.
But it WAS stupid to arrest Gates for disorderly conduct.

In several cases, the courts in Massachusetts have considered whether a person is guilty of disorderly conduct for verbally abusing a police officer. In Commonwealth v. Lopiano, a 2004 decision, an appeals court held it was not disorderly conduct for a person who angrily yelled at an officer that his civil rights were being violated. In Commonwealth v. Mallahan, a decision rendered last year, an appeals court held that a person who launched into an angry, profanity-laced tirade against a police officer in front of spectators could not be convicted of disorderly conduct.

That’s way I hate that Obama waded into this situation.Gates will more than likely let it go instead of suing, out of deference to Obama.

So Massachusetts law clearly provides that Gates did not commit disorderly conduct.

The Cambridge Police should be training their officers to know the difference between legal and illegal conduct. What Gates did was probably not so smart — in general, be nice to people carrying guns — but it wasn’t disorderly conduct. At least not in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

That explains why the charges against Gates were dropped. It wasn’t because the police were trying to defuse the situation. It was because Gates had done nothing illegal.
On the 911 tape just released,Gates was not heard ranting on the tape as was reported.
Another thing I find odd, usually a racist wont marry someone out of his or her own race.
Henry Louis Gates was married to Sharon Lynn Adams,a white women.

This story will not have legs no matter how the GOP try to make it so in order to try and hurt Obama.

Sorry guys looked like you are foiled again.Just stick with the Birther stuff.

Hey Brittany – Real republicans would say anyone who votes against someone because of their color is a racist and they are wrong.
But we also say that anyone who votes for a person (like Obama voters) just because of his color is equally racist and equally wrong.

After attempting to destroy Sergeant Crowley’s career over a fraud, Gates and Obama now want to move on.

The charges against Gates should be reinstated and he should be prosecuted. Failure to do so puts police at risk.

Sergeant Crowley should proceed separately with a lawsuit against Gates.

Since Gates has proven himself to be a racist fraud, Harvard University should take the same action as was taken against Ward Churchill by the University of Colorado.

Finally, Obama is neck deep in this. Sergeant Crowley should invite Obama and Gates to have a beer, but not at the White House, where all sorts of propaganda will be constructed to make it look like Crowley has been taught a “lesson” by the self-appointed arbiters of all things race in America (Obama and Gates).

So much for “post-racial.”

Too bad he has to see the world through his all encompassing prejudice.

Orinocle I figured you out first. Simple. Still, how do you get to use a computer on the internet while you are doing hard time in prison for assaulting police officers and beating up women, painting gang grafitti, tokin on a joint, and listening to hiphop while dancing in your sags.

Great life. Great heritage. Obama is not one of you. He is an elitist, and hates low life bum blacks. He just uses their votes and their unemployed to register voters through ACORN.

You are why whites dislike a lot of blacks. You have an attitude problem, boy.

I think the combination of Whalen’s statement that she never extended the individuals were black and that Sgt. Crowley falsified a police report shutter this case down to police misconduct which warrants a firing. Crowley violated a citizens rights, regardless of his skin color, and utilized despicable tactics to cover his trail. It is clear Crowley understood the statute of disorderly conduct and that he had to legally take the tongue lashing from Gates while in his home. By requesting backup after determining Gates was the resident means he had made the decision to arrest Gates at that juncture while inside his house despite evidence that Gates was the owner. He then baited Gates out of the house in order to make an arrest that could be reviewed as lawful, as any arrest in the home would have been unlawful and he could be fired for such misconduct. Unfortunately, this has nothing to do with race and got mixed up with racial bias because of Crowley’s actions to cover his track on his abuse of power by falsely noting in his police report that he was seeking 2 black males when he was seeking 2 large bodied males, of which Gates didn’t fit the description. Hopefully, his firing will come shortly.
