“I’m Not A Bible ‘Literalist’”. Then you are a servant of Satan!!! No wonder he is the worst in history!!

Mr D   December 9th, 2008 - 6:41 am

So our beloved leader, the village idiot doesn’t believe in evolution, therefore the only conclusion is divine or intelligent design?
Religion is the most divisive device ever designed by man and that is the only INTELLIGENT DESIGN you will ever find in the intent of its teachings.

Rack   December 9th, 2008 - 7:35 am

Mr. D(umbass) is clearly the product of “evolution”, since his mother has a big red monkey butt and sends him bananas for Christmas. LOL! You libtards just don’t want to admit that you’re GOING TO HELL and this “evolution” crap doesn’t hold up to even grade school level scrutiny.

But wait! Put that checkbook away! You libtards are ALSO GOING STRAIGHT TO HELL when you die! (which, if I had any say in the matter, would be TODAY)

Have a nice day, crap for brains! LOLOL!!

Rack   December 9th, 2008 - 7:42 am

Denying any part of the Bible, denies the deity of Christ and the integrity of God’s Word. The Bible IS GOD’S WORD, and our country IS UNDER GOD’S JUDGEMENT. Bush called himself a Christian up until this pathetically weak interview, but it explains a lot about why US policy towards Israel is so misguided and how we came under God’s Judgment in the first place.

God Bless George Bush, because he’s obviously not a Christian, and apparently never was.

lou dobbs fan   December 9th, 2008 - 7:46 am

Wow, you lied to us again, and destroyed our party.

You will be,

John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

***Did God want me to be President?***

Strange as it may seem, for His own Purpose,

Psalm 75:6 For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south.
Psalm 75:7 But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.

Proverbs 8:16 By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth.

Dan 4:17 …to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.

Daniel 4:25 …the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.

Daniel 4:32 …the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.

Daniel 5:21 …the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he appointeth over it whomsoever he will.

It has been wonderful having a President that believes in God like our forefathers did and based our country on.

May our God bless you, Mr President, as He takes you on, yet, another journey.

Barry   December 9th, 2008 - 10:03 am

This is so disappointing that Pres. Bush does not take the Bible literally. I thought he was more devout than that. I certainly believe God’s Word is true and faithful and very literal. It is not just a bunch of stories as atheists would have us believe. The most important parts of the bible, of course, are the gospel acocunts of Jesus life here on earth which tell us who it is we should be trusting. The second most important parts are the prophecies of the future events which are soon to occur on this planet. All hell will break loose and things will be the worst they have ever been right before Jesus comes back to stop the world from completely destroying itself. I hope Pres. Bush realizes this for his own sake before it is too late!

SNL couldn’t have done a better job, I’m still laughing!

Q. Does God talk to you at all?
A. Well, I quit drinking, I don’t hear voices.
It’s like somebody said, have you seen Lincoln’s ghost here in the White House? No, I quit drinking.
- George “W” Bush

Craig Allen -
Following your “logic”, God must have intervened in this election by magically making his followers vote for Obama, right?

Rack -
If you truly believe the Bible is the literal word, you are a fool. A simple way to prove this is to ask who was Joseph’s (step-dad to Jesus)father?
Mat 1:16 Joseph’s dad is Jacob
LUK 3:23 Joseph’s dad is Heli.

That’s just a fluke, right? OK, let’s get even more basic. Which did God invent first, man or animals?
Gen 1:25/26 God makes the critters, and then makes man to reign over them.
Gen 2:18/19 God makes man, then makes the critters and brings them to Adam to name.

Xianity is but one mythology in a plethora of fairy tales.

Oh yeah because talking snakes, the whole of the human race spawning from just two people, a guy who took two of every living single creature on a boat (what about bacteria, did they go too?), talking bushes, walking on water, being swallowed by a whale, turning water into wine, parting seas, a wooden staff turning into a snake and then eating another staff that had turned into it’s own snake, being dead for 3 days then coming back to life…oh yeah man all that for sure holds up to “grade school scrutiny”.

Queryous   December 9th, 2008 - 10:41 am

The Bible is a collection of writings by men who had experiences with God. There are errors. Some places clearly contradict each other. Why did Paul say it was fine to eat meat offered to idols and then in Revelations 2 , a charge is made against Jezebel that she encouraged eating meat offered to idols ( and sexual immorality)?
People also ignore metaphor. Jesus is actually a vine and his believers are actually branches.
Jesus stressed a relationship with the Father and not a relationship with a book called the Holy Bible. The fragments of letters and writings which became a book came years after his death and resurrection. Jesus stressed that the holy spirit would teach you of all things. The church also exalted the disciples believing that everything they wrote was straight from God, as if they also were perfect in all their ways and sinless. Paul said people from Crete were lazy , slow bellies ( gluttons ) and liars. Is that truth or prejudice? Should we watch those people today? George is right.

Jim   December 9th, 2008 - 10:45 am

Well, the President just went ‘way up’ in my opinion. A man who combines faith with common sense. He’s in good company with Thomas Jefferson.
God bless you Mr. President, and thank you for using the power of reason that he gave to you.

jesus was a liberal who preached against the moneychangers so why is there no call to outlaw lenders who charge interest since it is a venal sin to do so according to your precious book. oh yeah not only was jesus a liberal but he was a gay liberal…(didja ever notice all those boyfriends he had?)

Brian   December 9th, 2008 - 1:41 pm

DON – like 99% of all skeptics an atheists, you took verses by themselves without looking at the context.

Joseph’s father as recorded by Matthew, a Jew from the tribe of Levi, wrote from a Jewish perspective (Joseph’s dad is Jacob by blood).

Luke was writing from the Greek perspective, so in the genealogy of Christ, knowing that Joseph wasn’t Jesus’s biological father, recorded Mary’s father’s name, (H)Eli.

For more details, go here:
http://www.comereason.org/bibl_cntr/con080.asp

Now about your Man before or after animals query: Genesis 1:25-26 and 2:18 & 19.

They do NOT contradict each other.

The best way to understand the creation story is to see Genesis chapter one as an overview of all God did to create the heavens and the earth. In chapter two, the story zooms in to look at day six and study those events in a more detailed fashion.

Genesis 2:4 is a transitional verse, it starts, “This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created…”

God created the animals before he created Adam.

More people should actually research these bogus claims of bible contradictions for themselves.

Craig Allen   December 9th, 2008 - 1:51 pm

Don, your ignorance is stupendous, ’son of’, in Hebrew literature can go back several generations.

And by the way, how many GRANDFATHERS do you have?

You have 2!

And you are the ‘SON’ OF EACH!!!

FOOL!

Panandhandle James   December 9th, 2008 - 2:26 pm

What if the Earth was only a few thousand years old and God made it to look like it was millions of years old? It could of happened just that way. I can’t prove it did and you can’t prove it didn’t. So let’s work together and buy some canned heat to keep warm this winter.

Nicole   December 9th, 2008 - 2:46 pm

To say that the Bible is full of errors is to call God a liar! 2 Timothy 3:16 tells us that “all scripture is given by inspiration of God”. I believe that God meant for His Word to be taken literally, although there are times when Jesus spoke in parables in the New Testament. It does not contradict itself. The Bible cannot be God’s Word and contain contradictions/errors. That would make God a liar, and God cannot lie.

REM   December 9th, 2008 - 3:26 pm

Don:

-I was going to reply, but the others already made the points.

George:

Your statement was-
“jesus was a liberal who preached against the moneychangers so why is there no call to outlaw lenders who charge interest since it is a venal sin to do so according to your precious book. oh yeah not only was jesus a liberal but he was a gay liberal…(didja ever notice all those boyfriends he had?)”

Now, let’s respond to that:
1. No, Jesus was not a liberal, especially not with all they’ve come to ascociate themselves with today. He does not belong to a ‘party’, he is King, he is Lord.
2. You apparently have no idea why he threw the moneychangers out.
3. You do realize two facts, right?
-Jesus had many followers, male and female.
and
-Jesus did not sin, not once.
I appologize for any anger read in my post, but I was able to be contained after reading your post, sorry if some of it slipped through.

Don   December 9th, 2008 - 4:10 pm

Brian -

Your mockery is unfounded. I’ve read three versions of the buy-bull, and studied translations of specific passages from the Hebrew and Greek texts.

Your mythology has been translated so many times it has lost all practical meaning. Let’s look at Hell! The Valley of Gehenna lies outside of the SW gate of Jerusalem. Until roughly 600 BC when it was outlawed, Pagans sacrificed children to Moloch. Afterwords is was turned into the city garbage dump where fires continually burned to dispose of the waste. Criminals met their God there, along with the remains of butchered animals. How one could translate Gehenna into the “Hell” we know today is simply mind boggling!

Craig -

You are an imbecile. I have one paternal grandfather, just as you. The Bible only lists paternal lineage.

Brian   December 9th, 2008 - 4:57 pm

Don –

I apologize if you feel I’ve mocked you, but if you scroll up, you’ll see where you called Rack, and anyone else who believes the Bible literally are “fools”. In fact, your ENTIRE post at 10:11am was full of disparaging, insulting comments! Why do YOU mock?

The Bible plainly teaches that all sinners are condemned to Hell. If “hell” simply means grave, or garbage dump, then what harm or worry is there in fornicating, getting drunk, raping, murdering, partying with illegal drugs and committing all sorts of other sins? There would be none.

If there is NO place of punishment in eternity, then there is NO justice for all the victims of crimes committed in this earthly life. So then what advantage is there to being righteous?

If one believes that the Bible is God’s Word, then you absolutely must believe that Hell is a literal place of torment and anguish, that burns with searing flames of fire and brimstone, where sinners are punished for their sins against a holy God.

Ron   December 9th, 2008 - 5:23 pm

Brian:

Do you mean to tell me that if it weren’t for hell, you would rape, get drunk, do drugs, steal, murder etc?

Perhaps you need a cosmic dad to keep you in line, but don’t suggest we all do.

Ron   December 9th, 2008 - 5:30 pm

Reading some of the posts by you so called Christians is quite scary. Some of you act like a person should be scorned if they don’t empty their head and bow down to some bronze age worldview.

Grow up and stop living in this young earth fantasy that only makes you a fool.

Don   December 9th, 2008 - 5:53 pm

Brian -

Most people don’t need a God to know right from wrong. It’s simple Evolution, you don’t mess with the pack as it lowers the survival rates.

At best estimates one third of the world is Xian. If anyone not following Xianity is evil and bound to Hell we would see direct comparisons of immorality in countries not labeled as Xian. That is simply not the case, moral values are not dependent on a persons religion or lack thereof.

The Bible is a great guide on morality, however it is simply not literal. It was compiled from various letters and oral sayings by those not living when the events they write about took place. Any child who’s played “telephone” knows that information passed from one person to the next becomes fallible. Any text translated from one language to another varies remarkably from one translator to the next, depending on their preconceived biases and expectations.

The God of Abraham is the same God that Muslims and Xians worship. If society could begin to grasp such a basic concept the world would be a much friendlier place.

Lastly, when I want to actually mock Xians, I bring out the Flying Spaghetti Monster for comments such as those by Nicole and James above.

R.J.   December 9th, 2008 - 6:08 pm

Thou shall not lie. Thou shall not steal. Thou shall not bare false whiteness. Thou shall not kill. Thou shall not covet. Give to the poor. Love thy neighbor.

Shrub went against all of these, and fooled all of you into believing he was a christian. He fooled the whole world into following him, just like the anti-christ is supposed to. He has taken the world down to perdition. And it was the fanatical evangelicals that put him on the throne. Sheep.

GlobalObserver   December 9th, 2008 - 6:45 pm

Kudos to George Bush.

He came across and honest and sincere, and shows he’s given some deep thought to these “eternal” questions — unlike the average politician who gives the politically correct answer.

It’s difficult to take every word in the Bible literally — creation being an excellent point, since “earth days” did not exist before the world was supposedly created in six of them. How would they be measured before time existed?

It's true   December 9th, 2008 - 6:45 pm

That’s because you are filled with hate, Don.

R.J.   December 9th, 2008 - 6:47 pm

“all scripture is given by inspiration of God”.

This means that those who wrote the bible, and all the other scriptures that are NOT in the bible, were written by men that were “INSPIRED” by the love that they had for God. The only scripture written by God himself is the TEN COMMANDMENTS. That is why Jesus said, “Blessed are those that RIGHTLY DIVIDE the word of truth.”

God is not contained in the Christian bible. He is much more than that. The priests of Constantine who put the bible together, only put in what they wanted, not what God wanted. They were interested in giving power to the church, not God. Jesus knew this of the priests in his own time. That’s why he called them “SONS OF VIPERS.”

If you can’t see the contradictions in the bible, you are not comprehending what you read. Example: Christ said, “If a man is hungry, feed him.” Paul (a manabe apostle) said, “If a man does not work, don’t feed him.”

Also the four gospels are like four people seeing a car wreck, all four see it from their own perspective. They contradict each other.

Christ said, “Those that seek the truth shall find it, and the truth shall set you free.” Freedom is being liberated, that’s liberal. But in order to see the truth, you must give up your beliefs. Example: The Catholics BELIEVED the world was flat, and burned others at the stake that THOUGHT otherwise. Then when they had no choice but to except the TRUTH, and then say, “Oh, sorry.”

Christ said in Revelations, There will be many that come to me on the last day and say, “Didn’t I cast out demons in your name, and didn’t I prophecy in your name?” And Christ will answer them, I know you not, you are workers of iniquity.

So on the last day when you stand before Christ, and he asks, “Why did you invade Iraq and kill all of those innocent people?” Are you really going to try to say that you were just trying to cast out the demons? I bet you end up saying, “Oh, sorry.”

It's true   December 9th, 2008 - 7:00 pm

Liberalism is NOT about freedom. Remember, they were against Rwanda and the Gulf War.

You are confused with Libertarianism.

You also forget context when you quote your so-called “contradictions”.

carljr   December 9th, 2008 - 9:21 pm

Good for you Mr. Bush. If only you had spent the last 6 years sitting and talking with newsies like this, instead of the route you took so much would have been different in perception and more than likely, reality.

Hell, McCain might have even stood a chance.

grik   December 9th, 2008 - 9:25 pm

The first sensible thing that has come out of his mouth in 8 years. I wonder who whispered it in his ear.

Don   December 9th, 2008 - 9:34 pm

It’s true -

Perhaps you could specify what statement leads you to believe I am filled with hate. Such a blanket statement is not offering debate.

If you are referring to my stance on Xianity, you are sadly mistaken. That’s not hate, it’s pity.

1 Cor 13:11 sums it up well. When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

I pity those that need a book to tell them how to live a moral life. I pity those that do the right thing purely in fear of a punishment in the afterlife. I pity those who follow a God that would condemn over 75% of those who have lived on this planet to eternal punishment. I pity them. I pity them. I pity them.

It's true   December 10th, 2008 - 12:35 am

I was referring to your stance and other anti-religious statements you’ve made.

As to a moral life, that’s relative, remember? There is no such thing because we all define it for ourselves, according to people like you.

You may pity them, but you also hate them. You hate what they stand for, you hate that one of them is your President and you hate, hate hate it!!

Don   December 10th, 2008 - 1:36 am

It’s true -

Society determines the bulk of morality. An individual may have moral beliefs that differ slightly from others (some people speed, some don’t, neither are “evil”) but your environment determines your core moral values. Slavery is an easy example; what is unthinkable now used to be a perfectly acceptable practice.

You seem to be grouping Atheists with Anarchists, was that your intention?

I do not hate Xianity, or any other mythology. However, if a 10 year old walks up to me and asks if Santa is real, I’ll tell them no. I don’t hate Santa either. If I were to ask you if Allah, Zeus, Ra, or Odin were real you would answer no with the same “hate” you claim I have towards Xianity. Actually, since you think you’ve somehow found the one true path out of the countless mythologies you would probably feel even stronger than I that other religions are false.

Your religion is almost always based on your geographic location. If you were born in lower India you’d be a Hindu believing in reincarnation. What your parents teach you is generally what you will believe. How can you not see the irony?

R.J.   December 10th, 2008 - 11:59 am

“Your religion is almost always based on your geographic location. If you were born in lower India you’d be a Hindu believing in reincarnation.”

If you BELIEVE the bible, God created ALL things. That means he created all the other religions. And he creates everybody to be what they are. If you are born in India you were created to be a Hindu.

So since God tolerates all the different religions, why don’t the religions? Buddhists are the only religion that doesn’t want to commit genocide on some other religion.

According to Jesus, there is reincarnation. Yet almost none of the Christians perceive it. Matthew17:10-13.

Sambobiglips Jones   December 10th, 2008 - 12:32 pm

Actually Bush is right. The Word speaks to people and not God Almighty. No one has seen the face of God or heard God. It’s complicated but study and you can figure it out.

Nicole   December 11th, 2008 - 9:18 am

Don -
Okay so you pity us. The sad part is that we pity those who do not believe. The Bible tells is that even the Devil believes and trembles (James 2:19). However, belief is not enough. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence not seen – Heb. 11:1. Call me what you like. But someday every knee give account of their life and will bow and proclaim that Jesus is Lord to the glory of God the Father (Phil. 2:19, Rom.14:10-12). So say what you will. I know that I serve a real and living God. He has proven himself to me time and time again. My God is not dead. He is alive and my relationship with Him is very real. There is only one way to Heaven and that is through his Son, Jesus Christ. He is not the same God that the other religions of the world bow to. That is just what the Devil wants people to believe!

REM   December 11th, 2008 - 3:40 pm

Yeah Nicole, right on sister.

And Don, Muslims and Christians do not worship the same God, people just assume they do. Muslims don’t consider Jesus God among several chief other differences.
