Bill Passes in Virginia Exempting Residents from Mandated Health Care

Richmond Times: Virginia's General Assembly is the first in the nation to approve legislation that bucks federal health care reforms by banning mandatory health insurance coverage. Without debate, the House of Delegates voted 80-17 Wednesday to accept Senate amendments to a bill that supporters say preserves Virginia's prerogatives as a state. Thirty-four other legislatures have filed or proposed similar measures rejecting health insurance mandates.

God Bless the Commonwealth of Virginia for steadfastly protecting its citizens the good old fashioned way!

If you haven’t seen it yet, go rent the entire “John Adams” series starring Paul Giamatti in the title role, David Morse in a smashing performance and George Washington, and an all-star cast.

If you love America, you will love this bold, refreshing re-telling of her founding.

Wanda   March 15th, 2010 - 5:26 pm

Im pretty sure that even if the states dont go along with it the people will still have to pay into it not sure about that it just keeps the states from having to pay extra for medicare and whatever

You’re gonna “make me” buy insurance from those very same people you are demonizing? No thanks.

Dave in Oregon   March 15th, 2010 - 5:33 pm

GREAT JOB Virginia!

More than one way to stop this fool from destroying the country.

I heard a statement from Obama that was completely opposite of what the Bill does… She said that this Bill would put health decisions into the hands of the people… who does she think that she is kidding?
She (Obama) will say and do anything to get her way, no matter how much it damages the USA.

So our first female (according to his BFF Valerie (hugs)), trans-gender President wants a fight huh?
Va. just fired the first Health Care SHOT heard around the country!

She, (Obama) has made the United States the joke of the World… and even I am beginning to laugh at how f-ing stupid these people are.

DoThis   March 15th, 2010 - 5:40 pm

What needs to be added to the Va Bill is a stipulation that ANY IRS agent that tries to enforce the health care fine will be put in a Va Jail. Let’s say for no less than 20 years. Then the bill will have some teeth!

Hey Nancy, Harry & Barry: How do you like them apples!

I live in VA, it doesn’t really mean anything other than sounding good. State can’t challenge it, the citizens will have to sue the Federal Government over this, the State can’t.

Great Bill Mr. Marshall… nice to see someone sticking up for their citizens.

You made us proud Virginia!

Texas, take a good look and follow suit!!!! This theft of Constitutional power is unprecedented and beyond the pale. This Congress and President must be stopped at the state level since the Federal Government is out of control and will not check themselves against the Constitution!!!!

LET HEALTH CARE BE AN OPTION, NOT MANDATORY   March 15th, 2010 - 5:54 pm

Way to go, Virginia! Now let’s see the other states follow suit. Let health care be an OPTION, you dorks in D.C., instead of MANDATORY!

I hope all the states follow suit but of course Pelosi, Reid and Obamaprompter will just raise taxes on those states to pay for entitlements in this bill!
How can you cut $500 billion from Medicare and make it better? Smoke and mirrors that’s how! Their going to raise the exemption level on Medicare payroll taxes to make up for that cut.

Mad Professor   March 15th, 2010 - 6:08 pm

I don’t know where Virginia is, however a few of my students who claim to be virgins have asked me to speak on their behalf.
They are upset, and there would have been more of them upset had it not been for the latest debacle in the gymnasium where gun wielding global warming deniers ran amock during the last heat-wave.
So, on behalf of the few survivors, (known on campus as the”hardly-any-left-half-wits”)….. a few words if i may.
They wish to be exempt from everything and indeed anything else they don’t understand in the future either.
In conclusion, Bush – Bad , Obama – Omniscient , as i enlighten my dwindling group of scholars during yet another “lock down”.

Look at the vote 80-17, are there any questions that the health car bill and mandate is what America wants. These are both Republicans and Democrats that voted for this bill. These people are local and see what the people are saying. Why push a mandate on America that they don’t want.

According to http://www.americanparchment.com, the people of Virginia will still have to pay higher taxes to pay for the Federal Government to get this done. It will still be paid in our federal income taxes at a higher rate.

Good for Virginia…if they pass this under the radar, like they want, we will all move to Virginia…right?

At last a state government willing to stand up and be counted against this debacle of a bill that is against the Constitution of the United States of America.

The Democratzi ‘loons’ and their messiah…Bilderberg Bush-Obama has not seen the wrath of ‘real’ Americans yet…but if they go where we have told them not to go…there will be a revolution…the Voter Revolution of 2010…and it will go down in the history books like the first voter revolution in Boston years ago!

Good for Virgina. I hope my state follows suit. Another great idea is to maximize W4 allowances to minimize or elliminate your refunds from statee and federal. The lsst time I checked it was legal. Some of the states are not sending refunds and this would be a message to them to get their acts together.

I just got a big laugh – first I clicked Breitbart’ story on “Thieving Baboons”, then I clicked on Virginia’s successful bill regarding exemption of healthcare bill — the funny part was when I went to exit and shut down, the two tabs were together regarding Thieving Baboons and Virginia’s exemption. I thought that is exactly what is in the White House — THIEVING BABOONS !!! (Hope you enjoy the laugh, too.)

Fleeb   March 15th, 2010 - 10:33 pm

Now Virginia Legislature, would you PLEASE begin the process of having a Constitutional Convention so we can get rid of the 16th and 17th amendments? We need the state legislatures to hold our Senators accountable and FIRE them when they’re not acting in the best interest of the Commonwealth. The resultant “mob rule” over the last 90+ years has led to our downfall.

BRING FEDERALISM BACK!

Don’t know if anyone else will join me or not. It doesn’t matter.

I don’t just want them kicked to the curb in November, I want them bit in the ASS for the rest of their “natural lives” for this malice-aforethought.

Stop being ridiculous, please. Nobody is asking that ins. co.s & pharmaceutical co.s be “in charge”! They are, however, DEMANDING that Congress & this Administration come up with a REASONABLE PLAN, instead of the Commie-crap they keep trying to pull over on us. BIGGGGGGGGGGGG DIFF.

O'Really?   March 16th, 2010 - 9:54 am

This is great! Now we only have to worry about the other 49 states. If someone in the grand ole’ state of Virginia are dropped by their health insurance company and then get sick they can either liquidate all their assets for medical treatment, go begging to the idiots who voted for this, or pound sand.

Wanda   March 16th, 2010 - 11:43 am

I wonder what would happen is over half the states in this country did this ??? I think Im going to email my state rep. and see what she thinks and think Im going to tell all my friends here to do the same thing

Ha Ha   March 16th, 2010 - 11:46 am

Well, we will just see.

The preemption doctrine derives from the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution which states that the “Constitution and the laws of the United States…shall be the supreme law of the land…anything in the constitutions or laws of any State to the contrary notwithstanding.” This means of course, that any federal law–even a regulation of a federal agency–trumps any conflicting state law.

So if the federal government mandates that all citizens must have health care insurance ,let’s just see who wins.

ProgressivesareEvil   March 16th, 2010 - 6:01 pm

At Ha Ha,

Here’s the thing stupid, the constitution itself gives the States the power to do just what Virgina has done. It’s called the tenth amendment. It not only says that the Feds must abide by the strictness of the rules in the Constitution, but also that the powers of the States to decide what is best for them is virtually unlimited if you want to go by the actual wording of the amendment….But progressive losers like yourself only want to use the rules that suit you and discard the rest until they work in your favor.

wow   March 16th, 2010 - 6:44 pm

get with the program, if this health bill is good for us citizen and
bad for the big pharma & insurance, whay are these companies LOBBYING to pass it? kudos to Vir. apparantly, even if this bill passes, there’s
some consitutionality problems tied to it anyways…

really, vote all the bums out that voted yes on this bill…MINIMUM!
