Now those are two people who created jobs….
Obummer and Co. are drooling over Gates and Co.
The Demorats could buy lots of votes with 50 billion dollars.
Rush pointed out the BIG difference between these two yesterday.
Gates "pretends" to be liberal like the Kennedy's so the hordes won't go after him in the 1%, like Buffet, etc.
Steve Jobs did not play that game.
"BILL GATES REFLECTS ON STEVE JOBS"
Ah, good ridden. damage is done alright but i'm the last standing.
Yawn.
I have been saying that for, what, 20 years now? Microsoft is junk!
Do you own any Apple products?
Yea sure, and pigs can fly.
Uh… didn't apple steal the original GUI from Xerox? (Might want to check your computer history there)
Didn't Chevy steal the original Car from Ford?
Apple's flawed business model in the beginning was total control of the platform. Had they had an open system (and the engineering skills to make it work on just about any hardware)– they could have possibly put Microsoft under.
As it was, Jobs was a control freak that didn't want anything to be done outside his company, and it limited their market share.
Microsoft partnered with just about anyone imaginable, and "got there first" (but the millions of combinations of hardware was also Microsoft's weakness in stability and common experience).
Microsoft made computing affordable. Mac's today would still be $5K boxes if not for them.
Xerox gave away GUI, Ethernet, the mouse, and a few other technologies. PARC came up with some amazing ideas back in the day.
ENTREPRENEURS ARE DINOSOURS AND OBAMANATION IS THE EXTEMINATING METEORITE HEADING FOR EARTH THAT MUST BE DIVERTED WITH THE TELEMETRY OF ELECTION 2012.
Then why did Xerox try to sue Apple in 1989: http://www.nytimes.com/1989/12/15/business/compan...
Exactly right. Let's get history straight here. Steve Jobs and Bill Gates took… "not stole" the original Xerox GUI that they had no use or vision for and made it into something. Gates went the way of marketing the GUI, Jobs went the way of marketing the GUI and the hardware. Gates didn't have as much concern for the quality of the end product as Jobs did. Hence…. Macs are still higher priced than PCs today… but then so is a Volvo compared to a Hyundai.
Both Gates and Jobs are the original American Pickers.
If by "gave away" you mean Jobs took a tour of the facility and saw what they were doing, then had his engineers copy it, sure.
But Xerox management wasn't happy, and even sued Apple over it.
Let's just say that all the companies' Research and Development labs are kept under much better security today.
"BILL GATES REFLECTS ON STEVE JOBS"
CORRECTED: "Bill the Swill" reflects on Graphical User Interface Technology pilfered from Steve Jobs and Apple.
Windows Operating System is a dog that history will judge to be the equivalent of an Edsel, Corvair, or Pinto.
First of all…America…I find it ironic that Bilderberg Gates…is praising the inventor of the IPhone which is now giving Communist China enough of our money to increase their military to be used against all freedom loving countries…and perhaps…eventually America!
Now Steve Jobs was an innovator and visionary…to be sure…but having the IPhones manufactured in Communist China…is not a vision that should have been realized.
And if it was not for the union 'goons' in America…those jobs would not have gone to China!
Get it? Then stop buying those phones!
Anyone wanting to increase federal taxes on Americans is a PoS in my humble opinion. Back pay your fair share, whatever that is, Bill. I believe your actions carry more weight than your words.
Uh, no.
Bill gates did not steal apples GUI. The framework for the GUI, as well as the mouse, which became the backbone of both mac OSX and Windows was created by Xerox at the Palo Alto research center (PARC). In the 70's Xerox was concerned about the coming of the 'paperless' office. When your technology relies on the use of paper in the office you are naturally concerned about remaining competitive in the office environment.
Xerox's solution was to create PARC as an R&D lab to explore new technologies which would allow the company to remain competitive in the future 'paperless' office. At PARC both the GUI and the mouse to interface with said GUI were invented.
At some point during the R&D process, Xerox determined that the 'paperless' office would not come to pass. So they shut down PARC without patenting any of the technologies developed. Subsequently both apple and Microsoft hired former engineers associated with PARC to develop their respected GUI OS's. This explains the initial similarity between the Mac and windows GUI.
In the early history of the development of personal computer technology, there are a few instances of individuals who lacked the foresight to copyright their software and reap the rewards of their efforts. One such instance is the creator of the first spreadsheet (whose name escapes me at this time). His/her algorithm is the foundation upon which all spreadsheets are created upon. While now we look at these individuals and wonder what they were thinking to not secure the rights to their work. It is worth noting that most people 'back in the day' did not regard software as the preferred business model. The advent of the personal computer for small offices was still quite a ways off (at least in the computer tech timeline). So these ground breakers in the field did not realize they could monetize their efforts. Software then was a means to and end. Not the end itself. In this context, it is easy to understand why a large corporation like Xerox would squander its potential earnings on technology they did not understand they could monetize.
So to say that Microsoft 'stole' the apple GUI is quite incorrect. Both the apple and Microsoft GUI's have the same origins.
As a side note, I wonder how much Xerox could have collected in royalties just from the creation of the mouse alone.
How about you go to China? Why be a Hater?
Love the I- Pad!,,,,,,
Another "Useful Idiot". FOX aired an interview he did yesterday at some Global economic summit where he says there is no choice but to raise taxes. No Gates, the only choice is to lower taxes and CREATE JOBS!
You are correct. Apple was actually hindered by Steve Jobs in the early years. He changed in his later years.
Exactly…
I seem to remember having Windows 1.0 at the same time Lisa was introduced. What Jobs did was concentrate on the user interface for ease of use. People say that OS X is intuitive. What is actually does is that there are multiple ways to do everything so if you think doing a task a particular way will work it most likely will. I am constantly amazed at the techniques others use to accomplish tasks on an apple that I never thought of or heard of. That said, the first micro computer I ever used was a Commodore Pet and had access to the first IBM PC the first week of their availability. They did not do much as there was no software. I also had the first 10 megabyte hard drive ever produced and I must say that I personally never had a hard drive failure.
When you talk of an apple it is only important to know the model and the year, whereas when you speak of PCs you need to know the MB manufacture and model, Chip set details. Memory producer and so on. PCs are by far more robust for computer hobbyist than a MAC and Macs are far more user friendly to people who do not care for technical details but only wish to use their computer.
Mac and PCs are not the same animal and are not intended for the same audience. If you are going to drive to work you need a Ford Focus which is not going to be very good for NASCAR and a stock car racer isn't much good for driving to work.
For the record this is being written on a PC running OS X. and I have a 5 yr old MAC that runs windows. It is very interesting that the recent popularity of Mac computers was fueled in part when Apple started using intel chipsets (both processors and Bios). I am not sure who builds the "Main Boards" but it would not surprise me if it were Intel.
I still have a PC because I have quite a bit of software for which there is no MAC counterpart. Oh there may be software that claims to do the job but especially in the world of vinyl restoration I have found nothing approaching the power and flexibility of my PC software. I hear that there is some professional OS X software that is tremendous and only costs $20,000 to $30,000 and requires 6 months of training that costs extra.
I have both PCs and Macs and am happy I do. Neither platform alone can provide all of my needs.
Ad hominem attacks are typically the bastion of a weak mind. If you really use PCs to their fullest you need to be smarter than the keyboard.
Xerox PARC is still alive and well…. just not as busy. But yeah… you're basically right.
(ex Xrxer here…)
Of course XRX recently sold off most of their R&D to a foreign company… sad sad times… Where will those researchers in Rochester go? Kodak? ha!
Ok, so if Apple never existed and MS never came out with a "competing" brand of DOS… do you think IBM would have given us user friendly GUIs sometime in the 90s?
Competition is good for everyone… even if some of those competitors fail along the way.
An iPhone produced in this country at prevailing wages would cost $2000 maybe $5000 in a union shop. So you don't really believe in thinking globally now do you?
That's a stupid vicious comment.
Lol! Today? Ok then…. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=CNG.7d1ca...
Thanks for sharing that Inquirer headline, you saw that in the grocery line right?
Hey genius, the taxes were lowered 10 years ago, where are the jobs?
Was that exchange in "Pirates of Silicon Valley" true I wonder? Pure visionary versus pure businessman.
Jobs: "My product is better than yours."
Gates: "I don't care."
The bottom line was they both fulfilled their dreams.
That's a specious argument. Ten years ago dictate what is happening now when taxes are going up and spending has increased in the last few years?
I guess you don't recall that jobs were being created, but democrats at the time were complaining that they were not being created fast enough, or large enough. Unemployment was around 5% too during that time.
Beware of Bill Gates!!! With his money and power, he promotes abortion and birth control in poor third world countries!!! I was SICKENED to listen to the Fox reporter gush all over him from Switzerland this morning.
Yeah, that's right Bill. Raise taxes so the economic climate will never create (another) Jobs.
Bill Gates got fat & satisfied, Jobs stayed lean and hungry and I'm not referring to food.
What? By insisting on a superior product? How did he change? After Jobs left Apple… did Apple succeed or continue to flounder? I don't remember the years after and the clone years as such a good thing for Apple except in that it did lead to the return of Jobs.
I would submit to you that Jobs brought his vision back to Apple after Sculley and crew kicked him out for their own short comings and lack of vision.
Keep in mind that MS was all about software and marketing…. Apple was hardware and software that ran solidly on it.
Yeah, he gives to charities in millions and then writes it off. Nonetheless he has helped countless people and has created jobs. We live on Word [unless we use Mac]. He more than anything is a Liberal though. But when it comes to OPM, Gates, should not speak for other people. .
The massive Gates Foundation fund will be used for generations to support liberal causes. I don't get how people like Gates, who become wealthy being capitalists, end up becoming so liberal. They are such hypocrites. They talk about shared sacrifice and helping the country, etc., then go to China to make their products with slave labor and make it so you have to continually buy their products. From a business perspective that's their decision to make, but then don't try to force your quasi-socialist agenda down the tax-payer's throat. Take your money and assist anyone you want – including the government.
You want all products made in America by union employees no less ??
Another billionaire hypocrite who thinks "the rich" should pay more taxes so the Democrats can have more vig.As if another billion would effect his life style
Why did you change your nickname, Eileen?
They're both great men, stfu.
How about change batteries, relieve yourself so wont be frustrated and talking nonsense?
So we'll pay more for amazing things and buy( hoard ) less. can't see the harm in that.
Gates is a boring liberal but I have made lots of money writing software for Windows. The guy is definitely a net plus for the nation.
Nobody can nor wants to deny their greatness – specially not an avid user like myself.
You're missing the point though.
We can do great things AND take care and reward the people who are actually create these things.
I get it. Steve Jobs was an ultra-liberal and Gates foundation is aimed towards a lower population. Weird, but doesn't discount their contributions. Kinda weird though, I agree…
I don't have a nickname…the name is Eileen!
Again,I can't post a simple comment regarding computer history as I was there, darn.
Correct!IBM systems are by and FOR engineers,Apples are for consumers, who can't be bothered by high level thinking.Apples are pretty,I'll give them that.I remember the TEC 1000 and drooling, digital audio mastering,in 1986.And only $50k a track!
Now see, this is a post that should be moderated(ad hominem).,not mine.Mine stayed factual and was chock full of accurate history,as i was there.I guess it's still a no-no to mention the 2599+one.
Name one person who has done such a thing
I think he means why did you change from Eileen For Freedom?
Taxes are not going up and spending is decreasing. What are you talking about? The tax break was extended two years.
Jobs were not being created. Everything you said is not true. Why are you lying?
You mentioned 10 years ago, not I. During that time, employment went up. So….what did I say that was a lie?
I think you are commenting on the wrong argument. I never mentioned extending the tax breaks, but you just did. The reason it was extended for all pay grades (not just the wealthy), as stated by Obama (paraphrased), was that it was needed in order to not hurt the economy.
Now specifically to spending, that has gone up and we all know that. That spending is at 5 trillion roughly and weighs against any tax extension. As for new taxes during Obama, here you go:
- Obamacare taxes (upcoming): http://www.atr.org/comprehensive-list-tax-hikes-o...
- Other taxes (current and future): http://www.atr.org/comprehensive-list-obama-tax-i...
So there you go.
PART I –
I know what he means…and he knows why he asked because he is part of the reason why I have another name on Breitbart TV and Big Peace!
The "Pot" Paul…worshippers…who like to say how they are for free this and free that…had Eileen for Freedom taken off these sites…by their complaining in mass against me…and MY freedom of speech so only their VOICES are heard!
But there is more than one way to 'skin that ugly cat…named "Pot" Paul worshippers…and I took it to continue getting out the truths!
PART II –
Recently on the Mark Levin show he expressed how his 'last' book enjoyed a five star rating on Amazon because of 'positive' comments…until he came against "Pot" Paul…and when he did…"Pot's" worshippers went into Amazon in mass to post 'negative' comments to reduce his ratings…and he asked his listeners to go into Amazon to counter their attacks!
THEY ARE SCUM…AND YOU ALL KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND WHY I HAD TO ASSUME ANOTHER IDENTITY…AND IT WASN'T ANYTHING DEVIOUS AS THEY NOW LIKE TO SAY…BUT IT IS BECAUSE OF THEM TRYING TO STOP ANY OPPOSITION TO THEIR CRAZY OLD LEADER…"POT" PAUL!
Irrelevant. Symantec's source store is not research, it's corporate property, and what happened there was a security breach and theft.
I've been inside MSR (Microsoft Reasearch)– let's just say you can't get into too many labs very easily.
And the iPhone4 Antennagate? (You're holding it wrong!)– was a result of the lengths that Apple went to disguise the iPhone4 (encasing it inside a dummy) for field testing. The naked units worked fine inside their HQ (due to strong signal– but once into the real field– if you held it tightly with bare hands, it crapped out).
Apple is about vendor lock-in in ways that Microsoft could only dream of (if Apple had Microsoft's market share, they would be driven out of existence due to their business practices).
Back in the day (the late 80's)– the Commodore Amiga was in virtually every way superior to the PC and the MAC. It was corporate mismanagement (virtually the same style that forced Jobs from Apple) that drove Commodore under and nearly did the same to Apple.
Jobs was a ruthless manager who's shear force of will delivered products that people would buy. Microsoft was just as ruthless from the business perspective– but focused on commoditization and partnerships (not Marketing– god knows MS Marketing has forever sucked [well, maybe not as much for Xbox])– sometimes managed well (Win 95, Win 7)– other times not (Win ME, Win Vista).
I love Rush, but knowing a little more about Bill Gates and his father make me doubt that theory (a little). His father is a bigtime Lib (Retired Seattle Attorney) and has backed many left wing proposals in this state.
Bill Gates is very conservative in business practice (and in how Microsoft manages performance), but readily spouts (and Microsoft endorses) those same whackjob policies that if they practiced would destroy the company.
Like all liberals, they are inconsistent– being liberal with OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY, but handling their own affairs very differently.
Let's not forget– at one point, Microsoft invested some $250 Million in Apple– which kept them from going under at one point. Microsoft needed Apple alive to avoid becoming a total monopoly.
You are absolutely correct– Apple forces Microsoft to improve the experience, and Microsoft forces Apple do continue to push forward with more than "color changes"– and maintain a (somewhat) more affordable price point.

Did you talk about how much money you made, stealing Apple's GUI? Talk about all that time that Apple struggled to stay alive while you imitated and copied it all along the way? Whatever, Gates. You hack.
I worked on Apples for newspapers. We had 80 of them and 15 PC's. PC's gave us fits with drives burning out and buggy 3rd party junk.
Innovation vs. Imitation
