Hollywood gets a lot of grief for promoting political agenda based stories so thumbs up to them for producing and getting this story out to the public. It is so good to hear a story where the central theme is love from the heart. No government and no policy can ever replace it and assaults on individual freedom can only hamper them. The best part is that stories like this still happen in this country more than any other.
I do not know if this family is Christian, but this is Christianity and humanity at work.
A movie with a positive story, the good guys win and #2 at the box office. The only one surprised is the entertainment world.
Making movies is apparently not about making money, because if it were, we would have a variety of good movies like this to watch. We are out there hoping for these movies and willing to pay to see them and buy the videos.
Maybe this Hollywood stuff is just way above an average “joe” like me. They are probably worried about returns and receipts on the international scene, not how much they will make in the US.
Really, I think they are just too lazy to make them, not to mention they wouldn’t be “cool” to make.
Golly gee whiz, Hollywood, get a clue.
Excuse me, #1 at the box office.
It is nice to hear that stories like this do happen. And that people do care. Thank you.
They are Christian but I guess that was too much for Hollywood to handle. Great story!
Even the liberal Hollywood hypocrites can’t play politics with this one can they? Oh ya, that’s right, they can…
Went to see this 2 weeks ago and just loved it. The story, Sandra Bullock’s portrayal and everything about it. We went on a Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 pm and the theater was packed. When it was over I led the crowd in applause. Something that is almost never done anymore, but I felt that this movie deserved it if ever one does.

I saw this movie on Saturday, and it was amazing. Well worth the price of admission. I had not even looked into the movie before we went & did not realize it was based on a true story until the end.
I was so excited when I realized it was a true story. I have read a lot about what the Touhy’s have said. In one quote they said all they did was feed & “water” him & give him a place to rest. But that is not true. They loved him.
They said it was amazing what people can do when they have their basic needs of food & shelter met, but that is not what happened. It was the basic need of love that they met that caused this boy to become the man he is today.
It’s amazing what people can do when they receive love.
Leigh Ann said that she included him in her nightly routine she did with her other children which was to go to his room every night & give him a hug & tell him she loved him. It took a few months before he finally said it back. Then later he told her it was the first time in his life that anyone had ever said I love you to him.
What an inspiring love story.
