Barney should read some history. The Senate was made to be deliberative specifically to retard the ability of extreme movement who temporarily gain power from exacting transformative legislation. Exactly the situation now. The combination of five years of vilification of the Bush administration by a leftist “Main stream media” combined with a brilliantly deceptive centrist positioning of an Obama (who is in fact the most extreme leftist President in American history) together with an equally deceptive move by the Democratic party to garner a decisive number of votes in middle of the road states by running “Blue Dog” democrats who in fact roll over for that extreme leftist legislation to achieve a temporary majority then ram through legislation designed to nationalize 15% of the economy (the healthcare “reform”) while deficit spending $2T on growth of government and trying to crush the private sector through regulation, increased taxes, outlawing charitable deductions etc.

So there’s no constitutional problem. You’d think a Congressman should know this, having sworn to uphold the Constitution. But then again, when the Speaker of the House laughs at a reporter for asking her how the health reform bill is constitutional, perhaps we shouldn’t be so surprised.

Mr. Frank one of the least competent people in Washington, D.C. Aside from his personal demons and repulsive lifetsyle choice(s) – his grasp of taxation, finance, economics and money management is ‘galactically’ laughable…and equally destructive.
Mr. Frank is reputed to be a Democrat – I believe he is a fascist with ‘Nazi-like’ aspirations. If he were to ever maneuver himself into a position of ‘absolute power’ – he would perform like a real Nazi – by exterminating, literally, all those who disagree with him.

Frank needs to go back and read some constitutional history. Robert Caro’s book about LBJ, entitled “The Master of the Senate” has an opening chapter that brilliantly explains the role of the Senate as envisioned by the Founding Fathers. There was a great fear of mob rule, and the Founders wanted to insure that crazy hair-brained legislation wouldn’t be passed everytime a new idea popped into someone’s head. So the Senate became the deliberative body, putting the brakes on wigged-out legislation. To prevent the mob rule mentality, the filibuster was created to allow time for the Congress to think about what it was doing before it acted, and to prevent bad bills from becoming law. I would say the filibuster is operating as planned in relation to this socialist health care legislation. Congratulations Massachusetts; you are now the birthplace of the Second American Revolution as well.

We can’t simply allow voters to elect senators that may undermine all the hard work and desires of our current rulers. How can this republic stand when we do not allow our great Government to execute it’s plans and ensure our very lively hood. I don’t know about you but the thought of living in a county where the government is not allowed to provide for it’s people is disturbing.

I’m saddened by Congressman Frank’s indictment of small states, and in particular, clusters of Western states. Should there be no safeguards against, states with large populations of people who vote their very parochial interests? Should heavily populated urban areas, heavily dependent on municipal and government and other unions, whose vision is hardly 20/20, be entrusted with the long-term health of our country? People, who haven’t a clue where their water comes from and who believe electricity resides in switches on the wall?
Should first generation, non-English speaking citizens, who have very little knowledge of the country, or its history, and little interest in either, but are focused solely on their immediate gains, have the power to determine the fate of the entire nation?
I have Chinese colleagues, men and women who are intelligent, hard working, and successful and, whose children have gone to the best schools and entered the profession, but who, after 30 or more years in this country, have never read The New York Times or visit the MET, these people have access to very little information and their votes cannot be counted on by Democrats or Republicans, because they vote their pocketbooks exclusively.
Should the nation’s interest be determined by these populations? On the other hands, my very well-to-do friends in West Los Angeles and New York City, exert a disproportionate amount of political and cultural power. Yet, when they call the country between Los Angeles and New York, with the exception of Aspen, “Fly-Over, they mean it. Yes, they may own ranches in Idaho and Wyoming, but it’s just their second or third home? Who will protect these small states from their poisonous self regard. Certainly not Mr. Frank.
Mr. Frank has nothing but contempt for these states, their values and traditions. Perhaps if they shared his cosmopolitan sensibilities, the notion of the filibuster wouldn’t cause him such pain. But it’s a necessary corrective to the tyranny of the masses. Who, one day, may turn against Mr. Frank and his sophisticated if solipsistic friends—it will be on that occasion Mr. Frank will regret the loss of the filibuster.

Have you bothered to read either the Constitution or the Federalist? Hamilton was very opposed to supermajorities and In Federalist 75 Alexander Hamilton decried them saying “The history of every political establishment in which this principle has prevailed is a history of impotence, perplexity and disorder.”
To pretend the founders used it is simply wrongheaded. It was not used in the senate until 1837.

Why when we peasants retire aren’t we given 100% of our highest pay. The military was promised free healthcare for themselves and their families for life for joining, but the senate and house overturned that which is fine, but oddly the senate and house get free dental, and top notch health care for them and their families for life. 200,000 per year, free cadillac healthcare and 200,000 per year retirement. Barney Frank needs to be careful what he wishes for. Prior to 2004, the MA Governor selected the person to fill out the term of a senator that was unable to complete his/her term. The legislature changed the terms of succession in that year to require an election within 150 days of the seat opening up. This was done to prevent Republican Mitt Romney from selecting a Republican to fill out John Kerry’s term in case he won the presidency. It turned out to be irrelavent then but their cleverness and shortsightedness is coming back to haunt this administration with a vengeance. By the way, if the Republicans take the senate in 2010 will Barney want the old rule back??

The Constitution strikes a balance between the power of individual States and the power of the Federal Government. One of the balancing points is that the Senate is equally representative of each state, regardless of population, but the House’s representation is population-based. And both the Senate and House need to approve a bill.
Also the Senate is free to make its own rules, including cloture rules. Barney Frank is not a Senator last I checked. Where does he get off telling the Senate how to organize itself?
If you think the Constitution is “democratic” then I guess you disagree with Barney Frank.
My final comment is, the Democrats should be careful what they wish for. Eviscerating the Senate rules on cloture could bite them hard in the future, when the Republicans get a Senate majority (which will happen sooner or later). It will be much, much easier to undo “progressive” legislation without the super-majority requirements.

It’s no surprise that a center-right country pushed to the left so quickly and so deceitfully will react with hostility. But it’s a shame that more people can’t disagree without being disagreeable.
By the way, the governing party CAN pass legislation. Bush was able to do so without such a large majority in his favor. Perhaps if Obama went back to the drawing table and, transparently, created reforms that EVERYONE could be proud of, not just one faction of government, it would be easier to get his legislation passed.

Who Is To Blame For US And Global Economic Meltdown?
In 1995 at the request of Obama and ACORN the Clinton administration revised the Community Reinvestment Act to permit sub-prime loans for high risk low income home loan candidates. The Clinton administration then via the Federal Reserve made trillions of dollars available to “to big to fail” Fannie and Freddie for lending to high risk low income home loan candidates. ACORN and the Clinton administration then pushed Fannie and Freddie to boost their lending to these high risk low income home loan candidates.
In 2001, sub-prime loans totaled $330 billion, or about 15% of all loans. By 2005, they had reached $1.4 trillion, or 48%. Fannie and Freddie owned or guaranteed more than half of the nations $12 trillion in home mortgages. By 2006 they reached near 70% – a record. But it came at a price. With the trillions of money in circulation the Federal Reserve had to control inflation by increasing the prime interest rates in 2004 through 2006. The sub prime adjustable mortgage interest rates therefore increased exponentially. As a result, the low income high risk homeowners increasingly couldn’t make their adjustable mortgage payments. The housing industry fell apart and many banks were left holding billions in underwater mortgages. Home prices fell, and homeowners suddenly found themselves with no more equity to borrow on. The low income high risk homeowners that paid “little to nothing down” had no downside risk preventing them from walking and the resulting foreclosures. With the trillions of dollars from the government, Fannie and Freddie now redefined as government owned institutions were also left holding trillions of dollars in underwater loans. So what did the “to big to fail” Fannie, Freddie and investment institutions do but warehouse the underwater loans and short-sale them as Grade A to foreign banks and investment institutions.
In summary, the collective combination of Obama’s ACORN pressuring the Clinton administration to make money available to Fannie and Freddie for high risk low income home loans; and Barney Frank’s rejecting the Bush administrations pleas for tighter lending regulations created the home foreclosures, which caused bank cash flow problems, which caused banks freezing all loans, which caused business cash flow problems, which caused layoffs, which caused more foreclosures, which caused more banks freezing loans, which caused more business cash flow problems, which caused even more layoffs, which caused even more foreclosures, which caused even more ………
As for solutions;
1) Replace the current income tax system with spending tax system
2) Eliminate adjustable mortgage/loans
3) Require at minimum 10% down to qualify for home loans
4) Implement tax cuts
5) Implement severe penalties for white collar crimes
6) Eliminate spending earmarks
7) Eliminate the Federal Reserve practice of printing non-secured money
Ensure all budgets include funding proposals and business plans
9) Anything that does what a bank does and has to be bailed out because they’re too big to fail must be regulated like a bank
10) Currency printed by the Federal Reserve must be paid back to the Federal Reserve/Taxpayer
11) A bipartison Congessional committee must audit the Regulators and independent Federal Reserve

Bob Hall above is correct. This is not a democracy. Democracy is two Barney Franks and an independent voting on who’s income to steal. We live in a limited Republic, the purpose of which is to respect rights. It is a violation of rights to use taxation to redistribute income.
Just to show the rest of the country that we Mass. residents DO have limits, one Democrat has been dumped [Kennedy/Coakley] and replaced with a Republican. Scott Brown’s win is indicative of a people fed up with the arrogance of power in DC and, hopefully, will resonate across the land in the coming months. Also, I really would like to point out that Frank represents a small district in Mass., not the entire state.
The only constitutional amendments we need are those that provide for term limits for congressmen, (so we don’t keep hacks like Barney Frank for as long we have) and perhaps one that prevents congress from giving themselves a raise. Where else can you do a p*ss poor job year after year and be guaranteed a raise? There is an even more difficult problem we face, and it is one on a local level. Most states and municipalities allow “gerrymandering,” or the representative/senator’s ability to cherry pick their constituents by drawing their own districts based on how the people in that area vote. This snowballs into a larger problem when paired with the term limit issue; the problem being incumbents being re-elected term after term.
These senators and state reps need to realize that they were elected to serve the people, not themselves. The longer they stay in office, the more arrogant and disrespectful they become toward the people who put them in their cozy jobs. It’s a problem on both sides of the aisle and it’s time we as Americans do something about it.

President Obama has pandered to the Human Rights Campaign and other gay groups, and he has rewarded their support of his campaign for president by appointing numerous gay activists to positions throughout various agencies and in the White House solely because they are lesbians and gay or homosexual activists, and radical ones at that: these include Chai Feldblum and Kevin Jennings. The president can only prove to the American people that he is seriously interested in bolstering the traditional one-man, one woman family and the institution of marriage by firing or asking for the resignation of Kevin Jennings as “safe-schools czar” and dropping his nomination of Feldblum. Let the people and the congress vote on gay marriage in the District of Columbia. It’s the truly democratic way, to let the voices of citizens be heard at the ballot box, and stop pandering to anti-family forces.
The Obama administration’s policies on the family are a threat to its survival as an institution, and that needs to be a priority, immediately. The left-wing Democrats won’t like this, but they are going to have to learn that moderate and conservative Americans don’t want a far-left agenda. President Obama needs to change his own views, quickly. Being one of the most liberal members in the U.S. Senate before he ran and won for President, I don’t really expect he would listen. He’s not tuned into the views of average Americans on social and moral issues. Obama seems to have no problem with embracing groups and individuals who promote immoral behavior. Perhaps the problem with left-wing ideology comes Obama’s staff and liberal advisors. If this radical change is all we get from an Obama administration, then it’s high time to stand up, fight back, resist this “change” and vote all of the liberal Democrats out of office in November.

Didn’t some Republicans want to alter the filibuster rules back around 2005-2006? At the time I was thinking, “Be careful what you wish for because you may not be the majority forever.” Nice that the rules stayed as they were.
The problem is not the filibuster. The problem is that all it takes is the THREAT of the filibuster to kill something. It’s not hard to get either side to stop using – just force them to actually do it. After they shut the Senate down for weeks two or three times, nobody will threaten to use it unless they mean it.
It’s only the problem that it is now because the Dems are too spineless to call the Elephant’s bluff. Sustaining a filibuster is a losing political proposition.
All of you idiots saying that the Senate cloture of debate rule (what you are referring as the filibuster) is some kind of constitutionally mandated right need to do a little research. Our forefathers had nothing to do with it. It’s a Senate rule adopted in 1917 and changed in 1949. This rule has been abused by both parties over the last 20 years, and it really does need to be changed. The problem is, every time changing it is brought up, the minority accuses the majority of changing it to further their own goals, so nothing will ever happen.

But just a reminder to everyone that either party doesn’t matter. Your vote doesn’t mean a thing. It’s all about how your spending your money. You’d think most would have figured that out in the last…oh, I don’t know…200+ years.
First off I wish Barney would take whatever he has in his mouth out, I can’t understand him. Next people should realize the RULES do not apply to the CORRUPT Dems/Statists. They put in the rule/law in Massachusetts, when Kerry was running for President that a special election would need to occur to replace his seat if he won the election, because a Republican Mitt Romney was Governor. When Ted Kennedy, the LIAR of the Senate finally died they changed the rule/law and Kirk was seated in his place. In New York City there was a 2 term limit law for Mayor, but Bloomberg bribed the legislature and changed the law, wherein he spent over 100 million dollars and barely won the election. So why would you not believe they would change the filibuster rule. They are despicable.
It’s amazing how easily inflamed we become. It’s as if many of us have bellies full of fire and resentment, that we need to spew at any target. I say, settle. Sit in harmony and more good will come of it. Try listening without attacking; having dialogue without the spirit of murder. After all, America is strong enough to have differences of opinion on Senatorial procedure without needing to split down the middle. LOL

Barney is allowed to express his opinion and we’re allowed to express ours.
