The Van Jones thing is such a sad state of affairs in our country. Van Jones was a great guy and it’s sad to see him driven out of office by right wing lies and twisting of words. He signed a petition asking for an investigation into 9/11 – that is not the same as accusing Bush of being directly involved, it was asking for an investigation. I think that is a GOOD thing and that 9/11 has never been properly investigated. The stupid stories of his ‘involvement in LA riots’ were when he was in Yale law school and was a neutral legal observer, and was briefly arrested by mistake and released without even being charged. He was a community activist (a good thing) and when he was young he was more radical, as are many idealistic and concerned youth at one point in time as they grow up. He moved on from those positions to where he is today. Criticise him on something he’s done while being Obama’s advisor and I’d be more likely to give a rat’s bottom. The right wing is foaming at the mouth over nothing and sadly the rest of the country, thanks to latent fear of the ‘radical black man’ is freaking out without even doing the smallest bit of fact checking before jumping on the band wagon.

I just wish that the administration would get some balls and say, you know what, this is a smear campaign pure and simple, but we are not interested and we have an agenda we want to push that is more important than one person’s career right now, so yeah, he quit. Now, get back to work on the health care bill and get the thing passed already so we can have SINGLE PAYER OPTION and end FOR PROFIT HMOs and other horrid health for profit that is strangling our nation’s people and forcing them into debt or allowing them to die because it won’t be good for the HMO, insurance and drug profiteers.

If Obama didn’t ask Jones to resign then he has added to the blundering of the last 8 months. No, maybe it should just be called incompetence. What happened to the vaunted vetting of the Obama administration? Before the “vetting” is finished the White House will have 32 czars in place who will not have to go through the Senate confirmation process. These czars will be making major decisions. Last March, Robert Byrd, the senior Dem in the Senate became concerned about the proliferation of such positions and sent a letter to Obama about the constitutionality of such “czars.” The country needs to revisit this issue. Jones isn’t the only kook to have been placed in an important position.
