Don’t get in bed with snakes Wayne. Bad, bad move.
—————————————
Is she Conservative or Liberal (photo): http://bit.ly/9DxIrZ
I heard him on Lars yesterday and was floored because it was so obvious he was being less than candid. He wouldn’t answer the question directly and it made me sick.
I am a long-time NRA member and I am thinking he needs to be replaced! When you get in bed with the corruption that is this administration and most if not all incumbents, you are tainted and can not be trusted any longer.
You’re first big mistake was jumping on the bandwagon with “lower then scum” reid – and now you did it so shut the pie hole – another one we can no longer trust – very sad!!!! Where does it end????
No matter what we still have to support the NRA, even tho they should have stood shoulder to shoulder with all of the smaller groups.
Two wrongs make the Democrats stronger!
UNITED WE STAND
DIVERSIFIED WE FALL!
THE NRA IS A RINO ORGANIZATION. DO NOT DONATE TO THEM.
JOIN THE GUN OWNERS OF AMERICA: TRUE 2ND AMENDMENT FIGHTERS.
ANOTHER OF THE CORRUPTED. NEVER AGAIN. STFU AND GO TO HEXX.
TAKE YOUR NRA AND SHOVE UP YOUR FAKE-RIFLE AXX.
AT THIS POINT IN THE USA, ONLY THE TEA PARTY AND THE SMALL BUSINESS COMMUNITY CAN BE TRUSTED.
DUMP THE RNC. DUMP THE DNC. DUMP THE CORRUPTED COURTS. DUMP THE CORRUPTED STATE ATTORNEY GENERALS. DUMP GROSSLY CORRUPTED MEDIA.
FAIL TO DEFEND YOUR ONLY REMAINING RIGHT TO FREE-SPEECH…AND THIS WILL BE THE STRAW THAT BREAKS THE CAMELS BACK.
Free speech for me, not thee. When my membership expires, that is it. Second ammendment is crutial, but we don’t sacrifice the other 9 to maintain the other. The NRA needs to overhaul their thinking.
Yet another reason to drop the NRA and join the Gun Owners of America, the only no compromise gun lobby in DC. First reason to leave was because they supported McCain in ‘08 whom they gave a C rating to instead of throwing their support behind solid 2nd Amendment candidates such as Chuck Baldwin or Bob Barr. Bob Barr even sat on the board at the NRA at one time. NRA = politics over principle.
My membership expires in August. So far this year they explained supporting Harry Reid as ‘he supports the 2nd Amendment’ and now this nightmare. Sorry, NRA, I already joined Gun Owners of America and am busy scraping your decal off the car window.
WOW! The NRA is being manipulated by the Obama administration and Wayne LaPierre was sucked right into it. Quid Pro Quo. I’ve been a life member for 34 years and I now wonder if I made the right decision. Maybe LaPierre needs to retire and let some younger 2nd amendment warrior take over. If LaPierre made a deal with Obama cronies I can almost guarantee Obama won’t live up to it and NRA members and American gun owners will get the shaft in the end. Just hide and watch your rights dwindle away.
I am going to revoke my Membership… This is only the beginning. I am sick of this crap..HE NEEDS TO RESIGN.
I am a lifetime member of the NRA. New leadership is the answer.
NRA needs to stand up and do the right thing.
NRA sold our 1st amendment rights down the river by getting singled out and cutting a deal, when nothing would have happened with that bill if they would have just stood firm.
When it comes right down to it i.e. “where the rubber meets the road” Wayne LaPierre has shown he is only out for himself and his NRA organization. He caved to pressure and “cut a deal” even though he denies it. And he is trying to excuse and defend his despicable actions and behavior by giving lame excuses as a defense for those same inexcusable actions. And of course he will NOT fight the bill because his organization was granted an exemption and if he fights the bill the Government will conveniently remove that exemption.
There you have it America! When it comes down to the brass tacks the NRA is a “self absorbed” organization who cares more about themselves and securing their “own” interests and rights than they do about the interests and rights of the American people or even the Second Amendment. And Wayne LaPierre should be ashamed of himself for putting NRA “self interest” above doing what’s morally right and morally responsible. And believe you me Wayne LaPierre’s days are numbered as head of the NRA and if the NRA continues along this treacherous path it will do them irreparable harm down the road in my opinion. Go figure… if you betray the American people and act in an irresponsible manner putting self interest above moral resolve and doing what’s right you only have yourself to blame when you then see your NRA organization crumble down around you. It is better to get rid of the “cancer” i.e. get rid of Wayne LaPierre as quickly as possible then to risk the NRA itself going belly up. Stay tuned…
The NRA has been a joke for decades. Join the only real gun-rights org – Gun Owners of America.
Key statements to look out for:
“I’m being honest here” – implies the speakers previous statements/comments were dishonest
“Trust me” – Implies the speaker is untrustworthy and is attempting to convince the listener to believe otherwise
I nominate Ted Nugent! Get this guy outa there.
Sell out…if he does it, I won’t renew.
Whoa.. slow down now….. Remember, “Lars Larson” has sold Republicans out also.. He’s not exactly one of the rights best spokespersons -That’s for sure ! A RINO in disguise I believe. Plus, he talks a lot without much thinking… jmho.
His strategy is rational. Was he supposed to let the NRA die on a hill for no purpose?
Is this country desperately in need of someone who will stick to his principles, or what? It shouldn’t be that difficult. Has LaPierre been hanging around with Sen. McCain? Give in, compromise, whether you have to or not. It’s been a great tactic for the Republicans these last few elections, hasn’t it?
Let the NRA know how you feel. Remember a while back when that guy who was on the NRA board of directors said he didn’t think anyone needed a gun with a capacity of over six rounds? I’m beginning to think the NRA should just sell commemorative belt buckles full-time and drop the political side.
They’ve done good things in the past, but incidents like this seem to be happening more and more. I joined Gun Owners of America today. I may or may not continue my membership in the NRA.
By the way, Lars Larson can really hold someones feet to the fire, can’t he? Love it.
good riddance NRA, hello GOA
Meh. I’m thinking about this a bit more, and I think Wayne could’ve attracted a lot of public sentiment by not buying into the ever so common racket – I’ll help you take everyone else’s liberty, as long you don’t take mine. On the other hand, if the bill would’ve gone through anyway, we will at least have the NRA, one of the most powerful conservative groups.
Of course I really can’t blame him for acting in his own self interest. He was elected to represent the NRA…
LaPierre is a F*n’ coward — rational strategy or not! The NRA must get rid of him, and stand for all the Rights, especially considering his claim “we’re the only one they don’t want to fight … toughest in town.”
I’m not familiar with this bill and I’ve yet to listen to the second half of this, but if I’m not mistaken it sounds like the NRA was listed in a bill by way of a description of a size and scope of an organization. The Democrats changed the bill so it wouldn’t include the NRA by way of a description thus the NRA had no dog in the fight, but it left other organizational sizes in the bill.
That’s dangerous because there’s simply no guarantee of the size and scope of the NRA or any organization in the future. It can go up or down.
The problem I’m having though is just what does this bill do? It’s apparently not a Second Amendment bill and the NRA IS a Second Amendment rights group. Tactically the left has often tried to cripple the NRA by dragging them into a fight that isn’t directly concerning firearms in an effort to bleed them dry financially. In the past the NRA has fallen for this tactic and while they may have been successful the effect was in the handwriting on the wall and this type of flanking attack has continued to this day. The NRA long ago took the position to stay on Firearms rights exclusively in order to defeat the tactic.
The NRA simply cannot fight every single rights issue that the left tries to bring forward and still remain viable to defend the Second Amendment. The money does not exist be cause the leftist will create a dozen bills every single day if they thought they could drag the NRA in.
On the other side of the argument is the point that the leftists purposely changed the bill to exclude an organization that would be the size and scope of the NRA. In that view Lars is saying that had the NRA stayed in that fight the bill would go down in defeat, an admission by way of the fact that the leftists changed it. Now Lars is saying that the NRA should still stay in the fight because it’s the right thing to do. In that I would agree, but Wayne’s counter is that the resources would take a hit thus making them less able to help pro Second Amendment candidates get elected in November.
Both men have very valid points, but one is charged with having the tough job of making the tough decisions. I’m more interested in just what this bill is they’re talking about. Wayne believes that once the bill becomes law, if it passes, it won’t hold up to a court challenge for a having violate the right to free speech. If that’s true then it would be a waste of money in a redirect when you can just take it strait to the courts and be done with it. That would also have the lasting affect of the judges having made an official ruling thus preventing a similar attach from being used later on.
If anyone is having trouble with this let me try explaining it this way.
Imagine the Russians have decided to declare war on the U.S., but they no longer have nukes nor anything capable of reaching U.S. soil. The Russians embark on an effort by placing troops on a ship to sail to the U.S, but the ship will likely never make it here because it’s so decrepit. Why send a ship or aircraft out to meet it if it’ll never make it to the U.S. anyway? Yes, we could easily sink it, but why waste the resources to do so if it isn’t likely to even get here? If by some miracle it does get here the Navy can destroy it in local waters. That’s the crux of Wayne’s argument at this point.
Unless something new comes up in part 2 of this story I’m going to have to side with Wayne La Pierre on this one. On to part 2.
Years ago, when my boys were small and watched WWF on TV, there was a wrestler named the Million Dollar Man. His saying was ‘Every man has his price.” How pathetic is it when Wayne L. is described perfectly by a freaking professional wrestler! Follow the money; what was HIS price? The man should be removed ASAP or all members should bail out (as I am going to do) on that weasle.
Unfortunately, they have been known to do things like this before. The NRA turned their back on California gun owners during the Clinton “an assault weapon is any black rifle with a bayonet lug” fiasco. After a state-wide crack down that turned legal, law-abiding gun owners into felons, California threatened to sue the NRA and every one of their California members in a California court if they didn’t back off We were prepared to take them on. The NRA deserted us like rats from a sinking ship. Some proud heritage!!
OK, in part 1 of this I made the following analogy with a hypothetical situation:
“Imagine the Russians have decided to declare war on the U.S., but they no longer have nukes nor anything capable of reaching U.S.
On to part 2.”
I’ve now listened to part 2 and I was only slightly mistaken. The difference is the bill is likely to pass, or the ship is likely to make it. However, the time delay for the travel time of the ship will buy time to build up a better defense if the U.S. doesn’t send out resources to defeat the enemy ship at sea. That’s better for the long term and doesn’t pull resources away from the buildup.
The ship will be defeated in local waters, but it will take time. While the enemy ship is fighting in vain the buildup will already be done by the time it gets here and no resources were redirected away from the buildup effort.
Hopefully that will clear this up. As painful as it is to have to pick your fights carefully I believe Wayne is right this time. The NRA is not fed by the mystical horn of plenty. It’s fed by donations. That fund is not without limits and the leftists know it. They’ll try every tactic to drain it if they can get away with it.
Lars isn’t telling you, probably because he assumes it to be common knowledge, that there’s a difference from just raising your hand and saying “I oppose this” and actually opposing by physical effort. It costs time and especially money to send attorneys and lobbyists to Washington on behalf of the membership of the NRA to argue against or for a bill and it’s not cheap. You need only to make a trip to visit Washington to see the sights and you’ll find out quickly that’s is an expensive visit. NRA members have to pay for those trips on business with their donations.
I have no doubt that the NRA has made a formal letter in opposition and sent it, but that’s not the same as carrying the fight to Washington. Unless something new comes up that’s not being reported now I’ll stick with Wayne on this one. If Lars wants to pay for the expenses of sending in the troops to fight this bill he’s certainly free to do so.
If the NRA doesn’t reverse this, I AM DONE WITH THE NRA PVF, NRA and NRA ILA. I will always support the second amendment, but I will never give money again. YOU HEARING THIS NRA!
It’s time to tell congress to kiss our butts, MOLON LABE.

“edword June 18th, 2010 – 3:11 am

Over JOHN KASICH.
NRA if all you care about is GUNS, then you can all take a flying ………….”
For the record, all I care about is freedom. That’s why I’m an NRA member.
There are countless free speech advocate groups who specialize in the First Amendment. The NRA specializes in the Second Amendment and is the oldest, largest, and one of very few organizations to do so. While they do fight for First Amendment rights as well when there’s a common ground issue, the NRA cannot represent the entire Bill of Rights without having at least half of the U.S. population as dues paying members. To suggest otherwise is an exercise in ignorance.
THE NRA NEEDS TO CLEAN HOUSE AND FIRE THIS JERK.
Will contacting the NRA today to cancel my membership and scraping all of my stickers off of my vehicles.
They exempted the NRA for a reason, he should have stood firm, instead he has saved speech for the NRA members. Is the NRA going to FIGHT THIS BILL? Why doesn’t he want to answer the question? Gutless. Fire him and replace him with Ted Nugent.
I would encourage NRA members to write and call the NRA to voice their opinion on such matters, just as I encourage people to write and call their elected reps. But before you call or write, research the issue and understand the position of the NRA so that you can argue intelligently and on point, if argue you must. In this case, you might start here, http://www.nraila.org/News/Read/NewsReleases.aspx?ID=13913
“John Campbell June 18th, 2010 – 4:01 am “
I think you’re being sensible and pragmatic John. I think the NRA’s position, from their perspective, is that they are doing the same even though a large number of the membership might disagree.
I recall, quite a number of years ago, when the NRA endorsed a crook, albeit a connected, wheeling, and dealing crook, but a crook nonetheless, for political office. They could have endorsed a solid, honest businessman, a conservative, and an A+ rated 2A advocate, but I assume they picked the person they did because they believed him to be the shoe-in.
During that campaign season, I repeatedly called and wrote the NRA-ILA. We exchanged several yeah, but messages. Long story short, my complaints/cajoling accomplished NADA and the NRA-ILA stuck with their pick. A candidate they assumed would win the race and through their support they would be advantageously positioned after their man won. The NRA-ILA’s chosen man lost the election and my membership. Yeah, I revoked my membership in protest of their expediency. This was a long time ago.
I rejoined the NRA about 20 years ago since the NRA was the only 2A advocacy group of any weight in town and I’d come to realize that they did more to support and further the cause of protecting the Second Amendment than any other entity going.
Having said all that, I have to point out that pragmatism and the long view will not always stop the decay. For this reason I’m giving money to GOA too.
If you are a patriot like me; if you are fed up with the NRA leadership’s compromising and deal-making with the seditionists; if you refuse to take another step backward; and if you are determined to restore and defend our Constitutional rights through political means, go to:
http://gunowners.org/
and join “The Only No Compromise Gun Lobby in Washington”.
The problem with Wayne LaPierre has started to see himself as extra special. Wayne is it OK to compromise and cave if you can protect your own little corner? What is going to happen when everyone else has lost their free speech rights? Who is going to speak up for you when you need help?
Martin Niemoller saw the problem with this during WWII.
…
Then they came for me,
and by that time there was no one
left to speak up for me.
by Rev. Martin Niemoller, 1945All the while
I can’t wait for the next NRA call to renew my membership. Wayne LaPierre has sold out for a few coins. The Tea Party is doing more for our country right now to stand up against threats to our constitution.
No. Wayne, big mistake, we can not afford to compromise on any issue. Step up to the plate Wayne reverse your position before you split your support group. Most of us little guys out here are just waiting for the fight to escalate and you are trying to tread water, not gonna cut it bud!
Well, we better get someone new in there,or move to a more supportive group that has a leader w/ a backbone. Sounds like a turncoat in the making. We need that secular/socialist Obama, and his crony’s out of the white house, and there under the table ,shady deals.
Sooo, does this mean Wayne will still sue the government if this bill passes? That’s all I want to know. If he’s being honest, then he will absolutely sue the government to have this bill repealed if it is passed.
It is time for Wayne to go. Ted Nugent to replace him…..or I revoke my NRA membership and become life member of GOA. WTF….I’ll just join GOA anyway and revoke NRA membership. No more $$$ contributions to NRA from me. So listen up NRA…stop sending me your weekly request for donations. I will simply write “return to sender” on every piece of mail you continue to send me. So long NRA….
The NRA as I read the details is helping destroying the Constitution. One Amendment at a time with assistance from the Marxists in charge within the 3 branches of government.I’ve got some bad feelings for our future.Where’s TED when you need him.
The “Disclosure” bill is meant to 1) nullify the Supreme Court ruling giving everyone, including corporations, freedom to express themselves in election campaigns, and 2) force “disclosure” of the names and addresses of all members of non-favored groups (like non-union members or members of churches) to declare their memberships and addresses and what activities they have had or contributed to in an election.
Rail at Congress against it. 202-224//255-3121.
He couldn’t explain the turd laid by joe barton and the rethugs either!!!!!
HEY BREITBART! WHERE ARE THE 20 STORIES ON THE TURD LAID BY JOE BARTON AND THE REPUBLICAN PARTY? THE AMERICAN PEOPLE KNOW WHAT YOU ALL ARE NOW. BRING ON NOVEMBER!!!!!!!!
The Second Amendment is useless if we do not have the First Amendment. The Second Amendment is only good for protecting the First Amendment. I guess the NRA is not what I thought it was.
Part 2:
Now having said that, I would recommend that people slow down and read the first four links at the following page before going off half cocked.
If after reading the four links, and knowing that those who would divide us in our effort to preserve 2A will more easily prevail, you still think that bailing on the NRA is the right thing to do, let your conscience be your guide.
If however, you believe that standing united against those who would limit or abolish your Second Amendment rights is in our best interest, please consider supporting both the Gun Owners of America and the NRA.
“My 80 percent friend is not my 20 percent enemy.”
- Ronald Reagan
Moderators:
Why does Part 1: bypass the moderation queue and go straight to the bit bucket no mater how I try to adjust the comment?
The comment contains no profanity and is not intended to stir people up.
It simply points people to the Library of Congress web site so that they can see who wrote and sponsored the bill in question.
Wayne was afraid of taking a chance so he sold us down the river… Too bad for the NRA. This is the tactic of an insider and not someone that has his eye on the long term solutions. “Yes” we saved free speech for our members but but but we won’t fight the bill because we uh oh uh uh… This is the same BS that got AARP behind Obamacare. They(NRA) stand to gain from this by having a voice that for now can’t be shut down, for smaller or newer groups it’s gone.
Hah! no wonder they have been calling me all the time. No more money from me. Don’t forget GOA. They don’t mess around.
Everyone who cares about the 2nd amendment needs to keep or renew their membership in the NRA and they need to contribute what they can to the NRA-ILA. Individual liberty in the USA is currently under attack by a radical Marxist President and his communist ‘purple revolution’ supporters. Everyone does have some ’skin in the game’.
Indeed Nate, a house divided will not stand.
Now that I’ve heard of this, http://www.redstate.com/erick/2010/06/27/nra-issues-gag-order-to-its-board-members-on-elena-kagan/ I retract my defense of the NRA. Forget everything I said on this one.
Yeah, some things are indefensible and looks like I’ll be dropping my membership again unless some of the NRA’s wheeler-dealers are shown the exit.
