As a native of Tucson, AZ, I am all too familiar with the illegal immigration issues that haunt the area.

Sadly, Mr. Krentz’ pity may have led to his death – like wild animals who have become accustomed to people, illegals only become more brazen and demanding as they come to expect assistance when they cross the border; those who defy them become the victims of their hostility, vitriol and spite.

Illegals and smugglers burglarize assault and murder people (both civilian and Border Patrol agents) along the border on a regular basis. Homes in the area are regularly ransacked, burglarized and shot up.

What is far more frightening is the fact that many of the intrusions into our country are at the hands of Mexican soldiers and police, who often assist in drug, gun and human smuggling. In 2008, there were nearly 300 (documented) incursions by Mexican officers and soldiers

Mr. Obama hopes to welcome these people into our country with open arms. I predict, here and now, that illegal immigration will be one of Mr. Obama’s next big pushes, and it will be his political suicide

Once amnisty is back on the table, there’ll be a rush to our border. This will be commonplace before long.

I still say build a GREAT wall of US like China has with sentry stations, armed guards and such. The wall should run the whole length of the Mexican and US border with openings just for transport of goods. The wall should be 60 feet thick, 30 feet high and reinforced concrete. AND do not tell me it can’t be done China did it thousands of years ago. And it will create jobs. If the fed.gov. doesn’t enforce the existing laws about,for instance, immigration, but instead, pass laws clearly unconstitutional, like requiring the purchase of health insurance or anything else, then it is time to get rid of these crooks and traitors in DC.

The border would make an excellent sniper training area for our Marines. I suggest using a Barrett .50 Caliber. There is never a shortage of targets and the buzzards can clean up the trash afterwards. Just a suggestion.

I agree, so long as press releases were issued, and the border was clearly defined, (fence, etc.), and posted in advance, to fairly warn people of the new paradigm. It doesn’t solve the problem of tunnels and the like, but pedestrian traffic would be greatly curtailed I suspect.

I proposed this a long time ago. Put land mines all along the border, WITH SIGNS stating they are there,somewhere….. Then if they chose to try and come, it’s on them, not us. Problem solved. Better them than another innocent rancher!!

First of all, I want to say that I have read many of the comments on this forum and I think a lot of people are jumping the gun on this matter and with hispanics in general. Furthermore, many on this forum propose simple and somewhat ignorant solutions like putting a wall up on the border or sending marines to train by shooting anyone on-site etc. These solutions not only have racist overtones but are not feasible at all if you understand the socio-economic issues which involve the U.S.-Mexico border. Those who speak of a wall don’t know of how much money and time it would take. First of all, there isn’t enough money to build it, and secondly, the ecological impact would be grave also. Not only this, but it would take a long, long time to build. If you talk about the China wall I think it took them several hundred years to build that wall–and the funny thing is: it doesn’t prevent a tunnel from being built by the cartels. And I am sorry but going out sending marines to shoot anyone who looks Mexican will surely case anger not only in Mexico and hispanic comunities but in the world as a whole. And, unlike what many believe, our economy is co-dependent on Mexico. Our economy would suffer greatly. One example is the car industry. Our own car industry uses Mexican labor in Mexico to assemble and make parts for their cars. Shooting Mexicans would put us in war and the war would be on our own streets. Not to mention that the drug cartels are very well armed and there would likely be much more American blood spilt.We would have another Afganistan but within the U.S.
Ok now getting back to the killing of an Arizona rancher:First of all, although this man was probably shot by an illegal immigrant, the illegal was probably a drug scout. It is important to distinguish between two types of illegals–the ones who come looking for work and ones who already have a job in the drug trade. The man’s brother had found 290 pounds of marijuana just the day before the killing and Rob Krentz allowed the border patrol to use his ATV to help remove the marijuana. I think the drug scout thought Krentz was a law enforcement officer. So as you see, it is very unfair to blame all illegal immigrants and even worse law abiding, legal hispanics for what was probably the work of drug scouts. Even worse is blaming the whole hispanic sector for what most probably is a drug related killing, funded and armed by the enormous hunger of the American public for drugs. The blame here is the drug war–not hispanics. If we want this to stop then we must either stop using drugs or legalize them. I don’t think Americans are going to quit anytime soon so I think we need to legalize. And as far as illegals are concerned, first of all don’t confuse them with Mexicans who live in Mexico nor with legal chicanos; they don’t deserve to be blamed for the illegal immigrants. Secondly, although I don’t agree that illegals are in this country and really there is no justifying it, we should look at reality and understand that we need to make new immigration laws. I don’t mean to give away U.S. citizenship for free, but some kind of worker program where they could work a year at a time, but they would need to go back to Mexico 4-6 months before they could work here again. Furthermore, that they apply for the program from Mexico–not the U.S. So what I mean is that they need to get off American soil and apply in Mexico if they want to legally be here for work–and that is all work, not citizenship. I think this, along with legalization is the best solution to this problem.
