Should a representative serving in Congress not act in the interest of the American People, not act or vote in a manner that supports the Constitution, not act in a manner consistent with decent morals, the American people can fire them. Period. Just Say No, folks. Fired; no benefits, lose pension, lose health insurance, etc. We would see how many “Progressives” remain Progressive when they are forced into mainstream America. Furthermore, no fired Congressperson could ever be employed by a nonprofit organization or any other government organization (No Tide Foundation, etc). I believe what he says and I am far right of Ghengis Khan. I cannot believe that all the media is going after the gay issue. In the 82nd Airborne there is a brotherhood and an understanding. When somebody gets thier jump wings there is a painful normal initiation called “Blood Wings” where the backs of the pins are taken off and each person comes up and congradulates you and then pounds down upon the Airborne pin. This drives the pins into your flesh and you have to pull it out and then the next person does it behind them. It causes bad bleeding and bruising of your chest. The same is done when you make the rank of Seargent in a combat unit, but with that comes two rank emblems to hit at once. After this you still have another intiation withing your platoon, men you work with and build trust daily. They jump you at some point and you are wrestled to the ground and they proceed to spank you while holding you down, in my case I fought off six men before I finally was taken down with a knee in the back of the neck. They grope you and spank you at the same time. I had severe bruising afterwards but gained thier rspect by fighting them off for as long as I did, these men I trusted my life to as they did with me. We have many “Customs” in the military that if you have not served you would think were gay or offensive, but these customs are how we build teams, and teamwork. As a soldier of the US Army we always joked that the Navy guys were gay, but only because we did not understand each others rights of indoctrination. The main point here is that these behaviors do have a place in the military environment but have no place in civilian life. If you were to do these things with a staffer you would be accused of assault and battery with intent of bodily harm and sexual assault. There is no man I served with that would call foul with the customs we lived through, sure it hurt but it made us a stronger cohesive unit and built trust. There are some things that the public will never understand because they have not walked through our shoes. So if your going to go after him for sexual assault, groping, or even assault you might as well go after the entire US military. I can see the argument in the shower having happened easily, but I dont understand why he didn’t go to blows unless he was weak and vulnerable or completely caught off gaurd.
We need our Government elected officials to stay involved and not resign over issues like this. We need them to stop the shinanigans and go to the American people and say here is where the problem is. We need our officials to roll over and come clean and tell the country where the problems lie so we can clean out the bad members in November. It would be a blessing if lets say 15 politicians came forward together and said “We did wrong but we are standing here together to correct the problem with our Government!” But I fear this will never happen, but if they did it now with the countries support they may actually save this country, and this is exactly what our country wants them to do right now. I’m not sure that Massa is a “dirt bag.” Sounds to me like he was, possibly, threatened. Habib above has the right idea. I’m with Hera above, too. I think that all citizens should have a turn in D.C. Two years in the House – 4 in the Senate, appointed by census rotation by state. Employers would be required to hold jobs for the term, or fill positions with short-term hires who would know going in that it was a 2 or 4 year gig at the job. This will never happen, but I can dream.
