B F D.
…a true conglomerate cult…
I almost want to destroy my cell phone that I have now.
Apple makes great technology. A little pricey compared to the other stuff, but superior in many ways too. Worth every penny IMHO. Yet I don't want a IPhone as my iPod from 7 years ago is still belting out tunes, so no sale for now.
Skynet will become self-aware and……….well you know the rest.
iPhone can now run the Unreal Engine. Wii has just dropped to shit tier game console.
I'm all for competitive markets. Lower prices, better deals. I'm not buying it though. I'll wait for more open tech and sign on with that company.
ill wait a week for something better to come along. then again, i might hold out for another week for the latest and greatest. but… if i wait a little longer i will not have to to upgrade.p.s. all apples are made by samson
Libertyinfinite: are you nuts? Apple has done so much for this country? Like what? 3% of all computers are Apple. That tells me that 95% are PC’s and 2% Linux. If we had to depend on Apple for computing, we would all be in the outhouse. More like the stone age. Much to elite for mere mortals. The Woz can’t stand Jobs. That’s why he left.
The truth is- Apple has changed the world.
Every other company plays catch-up
* They redefined the cell phone
* They invented the iPod
* They redefined the laptop
* They redefined operating systems
* They invented "user friendly" computers
* They redefined user interface
* They forced Microsoft to make better software
Many people don't even KNOW Steve Jobs is PIXAR Films!
Toy Story, Monsters, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Bugs Life, Wall-E, Cars, etc…
Also- Pixar's graphics rendering engine "RenderMan", has been used in well over a hundred films, including Avatar, Iron Man, Harry Potter, Benjamin Button, Star Wars, The Matrix, the Bourne Trilogy, and MANY MANY MORE!
Thank you Steve Jobs! You have made the world a much better place to live!
You make it seem like these people are amazing. All they did was take products and put their own companies spin on things. The blackberry, windows, palm; apple just took a product on the market and seemingly made it better. The ipod is just another mp3 player only I have to use their memory taxing software that won't allow me to listen to my music on other devices after I BOUGHT IT and if I accidentally deleted it, I have to buy it again if I didn't back it up. Their OS is just another unix based operating system that's hardly compatible with any other type of unix software. Define "redefined."
What do you mean "Steve Jobs is PIXAR Films"? He is a lot of things to many people but he definately isn't Pixar Films. He once owned it but sold it to Disney. I thought that was common knowledge.
I like my products to allow (not limit) me to do what I want without spending all my hard earned cash on upgrades or *antenna cases*
Personally, I'm a linux man because it's free. I occasionally use windows because I'm forced to when I buy a computer, which I don't agree with, but hey that's business.
They are pretty amazing. Prior to the ipod, what other mp3 player was there? The brain-trusts at Microsoft dismissed it! As for software performance vis-a-vis memory, I really have to wonder if you know what you're talking about. The OSX is nothing code-wise compared to the memory resource hog that is windows. In fact, the folks in Redmond spend an enormous amount of time attempting to copy just what Apple makes. They really do.
Linux is okay, but you can run that and nearly every flavor of windows on a Mac and get screaming performance to boot. PC magazine rated the macPro laptop as the fastest to run windows 7 available. PC magazine is definitely not biased to favor macs.
I don't mean to jump to the defense of Apple, but your post is just factually wrong. If you're going to criticize Apple make it legit at least. They're are not perfect, but heads and shoulders better than those you site. If I were going to level complaints, it would be about some of the weird design choices–like the new nano(Why?)–or just why facetime on a new ipod or iphone can only communicate with those devices, why not any other video chat service, including every Mac's own iChat client? Seems dumb to me. I could go on, but comparing what Apple makes to similar devices as you have belays the fact that you don't know much about or use that platform which undermines nearly every point you attempted to make.
I never argued anything you are talking about. Are you kidding about what other mp3 player was there?? It's not like these people invented the mp3 player. If anything they set the community back by extreme DRM and interface with only their software. I was talking about iTunes being the memory hog, my versions we ports, never experienced on mac, nor do I care to because I use linux and/or windows. I have no need for mac, nor does anyone else as far as I am concerned. I don't buy my software as much as I contribute to communities, why if it is free and open source? You don't have to tell me about performance compared to mac, I'm pretty optimized myself. The only difference I can tell is user-friendly gui for mac, other than that I could care less, don't need it.
What is factually dismissive about my write-up? I read it again and it seems pretty solid. You are jumping to the defense of apple, I don't know why. I was debating the write of TruthTeller. Hardly any truth in it. Listen, I knew it would come to this, a flame war over who has the fastest computer and who is trying to be who, but it's useless. I don't care about that, notice I never claimed any of that. I have the same problems as you seem to with the company, their closed-ended os, firmware, and interfacing. I wish you were correct in assuming your swift conclusion, but it was off base. True that I don't use it (have in the past[all of it]), wasn't convinced I needed to spend ALL THE MONEY (my actual point). It's true good money pays for good products, but I'm sure if you were cash straped and a hard worker why not turn to the 'darkside' and use linux. My assumption is that while Microsoft tries to be Apple, Apple tries to be Linux and Linux tries to be Windows. If you'll notice how every GUI looks the same anyhow now a days.
You're right, a flame war gets nowhere fast, and my post wasn't meant to insight one. Working on both platforms–on a daily basis–I have a fair understanding of the pluses and weakness of each. Also, I'm not "with Apple", but use their platform and software for many things. I won't go point by point, but for OS, Apple's offering wins hands down. W7 and Vista are not even close and I won't even start with XP (our grandfather's OS). ITunes, is alright and improving and free, so I have few complaints there, but I'd never run it on windows for the reasons you cite. Yet, could the performance problem be Windows related? They don't play well with others. You do give Apple credit in your post–rightfully so–for providing the next generation GUI and interface for smart phones. Yet that is really significant. It lit a fire under the others to catch up. If you use anything like that with a touch interface, really, a nod must be given to Apple for the prod. As for the mp3 player–you're right–factually. There was the MPMan made by some German guy who created the format, but it never took off. Just as there were cars prior to Ford, it took Ford's contribution to the manufacturing process before America became a country on the go. So goes the story of the iPod, in 2001, they combined interface, GUI and generally high quality design and parts to produce a product people wanted. For this, they dominated. It is pretty much Apple's mantra.
I agree with a few points, as I too have windows computers (a nifty e-book amongst them) and like them, but find them to be tetchy, prone to crashes and needy in terms of maintenance. They're cheap and get the basics done. Yet, macs are deceptively powerful machines, whose optimized (to the hardware) OS almost never hangs and they can run nearly everything.My macPro is a workhorse! If you owned one, you'd rapidly learn just why others like em so much, doubly so, if your a coding geek. As for Linux–it's free, stable and has all sorts of goodies that independent software developers often distribute for free. Nothing bad to say about it. But for the masses, a prepackaged OS is often preferable. These days that may only be perception, but what are you going to do. So you're right, the post you made isn't so factually wrong, but it looks as if you've only seen the Mac from a distance–and–there is more there than just the pretty interface. I guess that was my point after all. Hope this clarification douses things.
