Activists And Bloggers Fear Twitter Censorship

Twitter has refined its technology to censor messages on a country-by-country basis, raising fears that the company's commitment to free speech may be weakening.

Any tool that could be used to threaten the government and its powers will always be a target of those in power. Why do you think our founders placed free Speech, right of assembly and right to bear arms on top of the list of rights that must be protected explicitly.

Yet we slowly give our power away as we allow our government to grow and grow as it takes over our lives piece by piece. It is a sad legacy we are leaving the next generation as many clamour for there "rightful entitlement",

You betcha and you can thank a complicit Congress.

I hope this doesn't come to pass.
If I can't Twitter at work I don't know what I'll do.

Using the guise of security, we are losing (or willingly giving up) our security.

Just deactivated my Twitter account because of this…..

There is definite Twitter censorship and overlooking of Twitter's own rules for the DNC. The DNC owns 50 accounts called OFA_(your 2 letter state) ex. OFA_CA. It's confirmed that twitter wiped out the counter OFA GOP accounts that went by the names NOBAMA_(your 2 letter state) ex. NOBAMA_CA I wouldn't be surprised if they start targeting other conservatives around convention times and election time! The Great Communist Twitter Purge!

Personally I believe that Twitter is a very powerful tool.

I also believe, just like the Internet, Twitter should be left alone, free and unfettered.

Things always find their own balance, a natural equilibrium; just as free markets adjust themselves.

The Socialist Left will stop at nothing to censor us. You'll see Obama working closely with Facebook and Google, my guess is to gather and track information about you as well as censor your message.

What is occurring today in America is eerily Orwellian. I know many people haven't read the book 1984 as they are too busy playing XBox, but the Orwellian society depicted in that book is not a world I want to live in. Sadly, it appears that exact society is what the socialist left wants.

Many sent me great articles on the man speculated behind the censorship. http://www.threatcore.com

The antithesis of the free press is the controlled press. Socialists are totalitarian by design.

Imagine, if you could remember and write down everything corrupt, incompetent, and evil that we've learned about 0bama, his administration, and the left-wing in general… What would the list look like?

This is what it would look like: http://www.american-trojan-horse.blogspot.com/

All right.
I broke down and did it.

I took the plunge.

I signed up for Twitter.

What's a Twitter?

(Hey, I was born in the 1940s) :)

afreegreek   January 28th, 2012 - 2:09 pm

as far as I'm concerned Twitter can censor whatever it wants to.. if you don't like it you're free to start your own social network.. nobody has the right to free speech on someone else's dime..

MuhammedX   January 28th, 2012 - 2:17 pm

indeed. it's a veritable trail of tears… like following a car crash video frame by fame. nice work

Tokyomatt   January 28th, 2012 - 4:05 pm

Well, when that censorship hits, lets see the activist cry over that!

Roger   January 28th, 2012 - 4:29 pm

They always seem to think that as long as the 'right' people are censored it doesn't hurt anything.

Oregontea   January 28th, 2012 - 7:24 pm

Twitter seems to be like a grenade with the pin pulled.
If not handled correctly it can be a big problem.
How many celebs have had "accidents" with the medium?
I do not play with it, do not have the inclination. Facebook either. Find them to be a pain in the in box.
They are for the people and not to tampered with by the gov't.
Whatever makes you happy.

Anthony Weiner must be rolling in his political grave right now. Man…if only Twitter had implemented this policy before he uploaded his package, he could have had some help from the tech staff and still be in office bashing Clarence Thomas. What if Weiner? What if…

New_Leaf   January 29th, 2012 - 11:37 am

I agree. However, it seems like a pretty stupid move on Twitter's part from a business standpoint.
