wow, there are some dumb people in this world. How embarrassing for her to be shown on public television. Well, my mother-in-law said she didn’t understand how anyone could vote for Obama either, cause he was a Muslim. I corrected her, but she didn’t believe it until her daughter, a staunch Republican, also confirmed it. She then said, oh, well, he’s black.
I really just laughed. That is what is really behind a lot of these Muslim comments – its just somehow more PC to use that excuse, even if you don’t really believe it. Somehow, when my mother-in-law said that, it didn’t bother me – it was more honest, and also because it is more a comment about her than anything else.
These people are dinosaurs, but for now events will just drag them kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

Another non-issue drives the headlines. There are plenty of people who would not vote for Mike Huckabee because he is an ordained Baptist preacher. Many blacks will not vote for a white person. I graduate in one month with my master’s degree, and I am ACTIVELY pursuing employment beyond these borders. My wife and I can’t afford to make American dollars and live in a society so dependent on oil (and we’re even in a dense, east coast city). Republican or democrat in november, I don’t care: get me out of here as quickly as possible, pay me in money that’s worth more than the paper its printed on, and give me a society that respects each other and understands the prices and risks of freedom. A society that is active and literate, culturally rounded, connected to their surroundings instead of insulated in a 4000 pound truck. Maybe we will be back in a few years– families and heritage are strong magnets, but first we can start a family over there, and give our child the gift of dual citizenship, a gift that will be very valuable very soon.

Since when do we distrust someone based on their name or beliefs? I guess the thinking is “If they don’t have a good American name we can’t trust them.” Right?
