That officer was an out of control jerk and should be prosecuted for what he did. There was absolutely no excuse for using the Taser on that motorist. I hope the driver takes the Utah HP to court and sues their pants off.

Brent   November 23rd, 2007 - 12:13 am

I am usually on the police officers side but this cop should be fired on the spot. He had no reason to use any type of weapon.

byzinski   November 23rd, 2007 - 12:27 am

No, I am not going to say: ‘Don’t tase me bro’. Instead, I am going to say: ‘Don’t tase me ho’…ho…ho..ho..ho…and a merry Christmas!

Dennis   November 23rd, 2007 - 12:52 am

I’d like to not only see that trooper fired, but have him forced to stand against a wall and tasered 10 times quickly!

this tasering is way out of hand

it is only breeding tyrants..another form of domestic terrorism

tyranny is not accepted long term by US citizens, the longer this blatant, sadistic use of taser goes on,,i would not be surprised to see witnesses fighting officers!! In some of the cases Ive heard of, I would attack the police officers inorder to save those people’s lives. Seem most of this tasering is for very small things. But the risk tasers impose on its victims is DEATH!

Josh   November 23rd, 2007 - 12:59 am

The driver could have avoided this whole thing if he had obeyed the officer.

Officer: Turn around and put your hands behind your back
Driver: Sees taser pointed at him. Turns around puts hands behind back.

But no, instead walks away.

Dennis   November 23rd, 2007 - 1:02 am

Officer has a choice to also write on the ticket that it was not signed.

Instead this b@stard wanted to electrocute him..and risk this young father’s life.

Further, this officer is a blind @ss..which evidence shows the poor victim did infact NOT break any law

this officer needs to be FIRED! He is an animal.
I also want to see him tasered!

jerry   November 23rd, 2007 - 2:10 am

its real simply, all he had to do was sign it. he didnt listen to the officers commandsafter the officer told him to get his hands behind his back. Guess what he got zapped. cbs seems to be playing devil adovocate against the police. another slanted story from cbs.

brez   November 23rd, 2007 - 2:18 am

that excuse for a cop is sick… and he’s only one of thousands out there abusing their power and intimidating people. they are terrorists – don’t immediately obey those sick people and they’ll try to kill you — no kiddin’ — they are a menace to society. As you can see, I have NO TIME for cops… they’re a necessary evil up with which we have to put.

Jeff Davis   November 23rd, 2007 - 3:00 am

The offender refused to sign the citation, that is an arrestable offense. The offender tried to argue his case on the side of the road, that is not the time or place for it. The offender also tried to take control of the situation, and tell the officer the law, and what he was and wasn’t going to do, the officer was patient with him for a while, then finally took control of the situation. When it appeared the offender wasn’t going to comply, he pulled the taser. When the offender resisted arrest and started walking towards his vehicle, the officer used force, and rightly so. That could have prevented a possible chase. Also, offender kept demanding his rights be read, if you are not going to be questioned, then the officer does not have to read you miranda rights, offender sounded silly and childish to keep asking this. The wife and kid being present, and her reactions are simply grandstanding emotion, and bear no relevance on the issue. This offender obviously did not respect the officer, nor was he going to comply with any of the officers orders, and the officer finally got tired of it, and took control of the situation, and rightly so.

Shane   November 23rd, 2007 - 3:30 am

Next time just shoot him in the head.Damn leftist idiots get the hell out of my country.

Randall   November 23rd, 2007 - 5:55 am

No one, in a free land, is required to obey an unlawful order. You do so only in an attempt to save yourself from injury and possible death,… and some of us prefer death to slavery.

Public servants, from the President on down to Dogcatcher, you are put on notice.

Brothergibson   November 23rd, 2007 - 9:37 am

In most jurisdictions, the signature is the offender’s bond, in lieu of jail. If the driver refuses to sign, then jail is mandatory. Would you have the trooper fall to his knees and beg the little jerk to cooperate? I DO think that he (the officer) might have clearly stated “you’re under arrest”, but that shouldn’t have been necessary.

WatchDog   November 23rd, 2007 - 9:40 am

What this officer did was simply an act of roadside terrorism and he should be fired immediately. The dope terrorized this entire family and kept the victims wife from coming to her husbands aid. I hope the officer and the state are sued and lose in court. As for Mr. Jeff Nigbur, the spokesman for the department, you are a fool with a badge and you are full of crap. I bet you fought pretty hard to keep this video from getting into the hands of the media.

U.S. Secretary of War   November 23rd, 2007 - 11:45 am

The cop is also a LIAR – he says to the other cop “I warned him that I was gonna taze him!”

Lie!

Domestic terrorism at it’s finest.

When the REAL 3rd Reich comes, we’ll be the first to go.

Carl Wimmer, ex-pig from West Valley City, says during an interview:

“(He) began to put his right hand in his pocket…”

Lying son of a bitch! His hand was there the whole time! Fat f***in greasy pig. The average patriot wouldn’t piss on you if you were on fire!

James   November 23rd, 2007 - 12:28 pm

What a jerk. The driver refused to sign, and then refuse to comply with the officer. All the time his hands were near his pockets. I would have tasered the jerk myself under those circumstances alone. Then in the studio he tried to use the, “My 15 month old child was in the car” wimp defense. If he really cared about his child, he wouldn’t have been trailing at that rate of speed.

He is just another arrogant jerk that got what he deserved.

Mike F   November 24th, 2007 - 7:14 pm

I’ve been pulled over for speeding at least 36 times and I have received 28 tickets. I have only had a gun pulled on me once (because I popped the trunck to get access to my driver’s license as the officer was walking up to my vehicle. Though some officers have been very rigid and annoying, I have never encountered such a jerk as the officer captured on this video. There was no indication that he was in any danger, and in this type of setting he should diffuse rather than increase tension. He has power issues and should have his badge taken away.

Josh   November 25th, 2007 - 3:18 am

28 speeding tickets = 960 points or more
600 points license revoked 1 year
1 seriously bad driver

Reason   November 25th, 2007 - 1:48 pm

Can some of you drooling cop defenders speak to where you draw the line when it comes to “obeying the orders of a police officer”? Can you also explain what questions are inappropriate to ask police officers? I’m sorry; I just must be confused. Here I was thinking that cops are paid public servants who have an obligation to explain what kinds of options citizens have after being slapped with a ticket. Now I find out that asking questions and having a spine are grounds for torture and arrest at the discretion of edgy cops having a bad day. Go figure!
