The president has claimed the right to imprison people indefinitely without access to counsel, rights that predate the founding of this nation and were codified in the Constitution. We’ve lost our Fourth Amendment right to privacy, as the President has been spying on tens of thousands of Americans’ electronic communications without complying with the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978. We’ve lost our right to know what our government is doing, as the President ordered executive agencies not to comply with FOIA requests.

Maybe you don’t miss our rights or refuse to acknowledge that they’re gone, but many of us who love our country do.

And for the Drudge readers who were apparently confused by Kucinich’s mention of UFO’s, think about what that term means. It doesn’t mean little green men from mars, it means he saw something and didn’t know what it was. It’s about time the people of the United States wake up and start listening to intelligent people. Dick Cheney should absolutely be impeached but so should Geore Bush and any of the people he has appointed.

But let us not stop there. Why don’t we face the real issue here, the real problem that we are looking at? The blatant parallels between the conditions within and behaviors of the United States are far too similar at face value and in political substance to those of Nazi Germany prior to and through World War II.

In America, the political power of the existing administration is based primarily on the support of severely religious theocrats who seek nothing more than a theocratic government based on radical christian beliefs. Nazi Germany utilized the beliefs of a zealoutous christian population to justify their expansion, going so far as to claim that the German people were the descendants of the Knights Templar, the one true race descended from Jesus Christ and were the “shining example of mankind” and a “beacon of hope in the world.” The US proclaims similar values daily in its assertions that it is the worlds police, that it has an obligation to spread its beliefs and “democracy” and that it is somehow a “lighthouse of shining liberty to the world.” The only difference between Germany and the US is that the US isn’t attacking its direct neighbors, it is capable of attacking distant countries due to the advances of globalization.

In Nazi Germany, the government was a state of corporatism. The state colluded with industry and commerce in order to grind the machines of war to gain new resources and lands and expand the third reich to forward Hitlers mercantilistic and ideological whims. In the United States, the machines of war are being ground by the state in order to rob the world of its resources for the benefit of the rich, and the corporations. Where Germany utilized the resources of the economy to support the military and the state, the United States uses the resources of the military and the state to support the economy.

The element of the “other” in both examples is clear as day. Germany chose to isolate and epitomize the foreign influence of Jews and foreigners within their borders in order to drive the German population into a frenzy of dependence upon the state, giving up their liberties in order to protect themselves from an invisibile but always present enemy that didn’t exist. The United States does the same thing daily with its continued propoganda and exhortations of September 11th, and the “invasion of immigrants.” All manners of liberties and rights have been given away to the state under the guise of protection.

Yet do not dare question these facts or you too will be branded with an invisible yellow star, a star or treason, of un-Americanism and be cast away, a traitor among “true patriots” who dare not question the rightness and morality of the situation.

The terrorists appreciate the hard work of their enablers – the Democrats in the U S House and U S Senate.

If we’re talking about “values,” though, I can think of one right off the bat I’d like “restored,” and that would be the one that states “Americans don’t torture their prisoners.” We put the Japanese on trial for water boarding back when not torturing was an American value, and now WE’RE doing it (and I’m sure the Drudge readers get off on that). My grandfather who fought at Guadal Canal is ashamed of our current leaders, who are doing one of the very same things that caused him to despise the Japanese.

While both parties tear each other to shreds in front of the television cameras and waste billions of dollars trying to blame each other for the waste of resources (resulting in even greater waste)…they take their vacations together. The real solutions will not come from a democratic impeachment process (which will not magically fix the corruption that is inherent in both parties) or via a republican presidential re-election. Americans have no real choices…just the perception of such.

Free speech has been limited by any intelligently measured account. Local media stations are being eliminated by the droves in favor of centralized media ownership by three main companies all owned by a very narrow band of people. Where in the past, free speech was limited by simply quieting people, and was easily measured, in today’s world, you simply multiply the propoganda across a myriad of spectrum and claim a diversity in numbers when in fact, they are all spewing the same garbage.

Free expression? Last I checked, people were still being arrested for protesting. This isn’t a Bush problem alone but it has certainly increased since he came to office. No protesting outside funerals, no protesting outside trade forum, no protesting on public streets without a permit, no protesting in front of the White House. That is just officially regulated free expression. I haven’t even begun to start on the problems with self-policed limitations on free expression. In Nazi Germany, in the most “heaviily” policed section of Berlin, there were only 2 Gestapo officers yet there were thousands of arrests, all from people who spied, complained and accused their neighbors, friends and enemies of treason, being Jewish or worse. In todays society, the mere questioning of the activities of the government brings ostracism, accusation, violence, isolation, firings, and loss of personal livelihood. I should know! I was fired from a government job for writing an editorial to the local newspaper about the Pledge of Allegiance! On my own time, in the privacy of my own home, I exercised a right afforded to me by the constitution and was suppressed by a government entity for doing so with the explanation that I was being “un-american.” That, my friend, is documented by the FOIA e-mail archive request I pulled out of their butt and found in their e-mail logs.

The US is very much like Nazi Germany any to allege otherwise shows a complete lack of understanding of the political conditions that exist within the state and that existed within Germany during the Third Reich.

I should know, I hold a MA in Political Science majoring in Comparative Politics and International Relations. If anyone is qualified to make that assertion, it would be me.

I don’t understand all the utter hate for Bush/Cheney etc. The capacity for hate on the far left is staggering. It consumes their entire being, and they are incapable of rational thought because of it. They are paralyzed by it. It’s sad they cannot debate with facts and convincing arguments, instead they use half truths and threats of censure to anyone who dares oppose their socialist vision. Cheney does not own any Haliburton stock. He’s not allowed to. Michael Moore and George Soros however, both own stock in Haliburton.

The ad claims Cheney got $2 million from Halliburton “as vice president,” which is false. Actually, nearly $1.6 million of that was paid before Cheney took office. More importantly, all of it was earned before he was a candidate, when he was the company’s chief executive.

Analysis
A Kerry ad released Sept 17 once again attacks Cheney’s ties to Halliburton, implying that Cheney is profiting from the company’s contracts in Iraq. That’s false.

Kerry-Edwards Ad:

Cheney: I have no financial interest in Halliburton of any kind and haven’t had now for over three years.

Announcer: The truth: As vice president, Dick Cheney received $2 million from Halliburton. Halliburton got billions in no bid contracts in Iraq. Dick Cheney got $2 million. What did we get? A $200 billion dollar bill for Iraq. Lost jobs. Rising health care costs. It’s time for a new direction.

Announcer: I’m John Kerry, and I approve this message.
The ad isn’t subtle. It says, “As vice president, Dick Cheney received $2 million from Halliburton. Halliburton got billions in no bid contracts in Iraq. Dick Cheney got $2 million. What did we get?” And it implies that Cheney lied to the public when he said in a TV interview that “I have no financial interest in Halliburton of any kind.”

But as we document here, Cheney has insulated himself financially from whatever might happen to Halliburton. The Kerry ad misstates the facts.

$2 Million

To start, the $2 million figure is wrong. It is true that Cheney has received just under $2 million from Halliburton since his election, but nearly $1.6 million of that total was paid before Cheney actually took office on Jan. 20, 2001. Saying Cheney got that much “as vice president” is simply false.

We asked Cheney’s personal attorney to document that, and he did, supplying several documents never released publicly before:

A Halliburton pay statement dated Jan 2, 2001 shows just under $147,579 was paid that day as “elect defrl payou,” meaning payout of salary from the company’s Elective Deferral Plan. That was salary Cheney had earned in 1999, but which he had chosen previously to receive in five installments spread over five years.
Another pay statement dated Jan. 18 shows $1,451,398 was paid that day under the company’s “Incentive Plan C” for senior executives. That was Cheney’s incentive compensation — bonus money — paid on the basis of the company’s performance in 2000. Cheney had formally resigned from the company the previous September to campaign full time, but the amount of his bonus couldn’t be calculated until the full year’s financial results were known.
Cheney’s personal financial disclosure forms, together with the pay statements just mentioned, show that Cheney has received $398,548 in deferred salary from Halliburton “as vice president.” And of course, all of that is money he earned when he was the company’s chief executive officer. Cheney was due to receive another payment in 2004, and a final payment in 2005.

The Kerry ad isn’t the only place the false $2 million figure appears. The Democratic National Committee also gets it wrong on their Web site. The dates of the Halliburton payments don’t appear on Cheney’s personal financial disclosure form from 2001, and the DNC assumed — incorrectly as we have shown — that all the 2001 payment were made after he took office.

Deferred Salary

The $398,548 Halliburton has paid to Cheney while in office is all deferred compensation, a common practice that high-salaried executives use to reduce their tax bills by spreading income over several years. In Cheney’s case, he signed a Halliburton form in December of 1998 choosing to have 50% of his salary for the next year, and 90% of any bonus money for that year, spread out over five years. (As it turned out, there was no bonus for 1999.) We asked Cheney’s personal attorney to document the deferral agreement as well, and he supplied us with a copy of the form, posted here publicly for the first time.

Legally, Halliburton can’t increase or reduce the amount of the deferred compensation no matter what Cheney does as vice president. So Cheney’s deferred payments from Halliburton wouldn’t increase no matter how much money the company makes, or how many government contracts it receives.

On the other hand, there is a possibility that if the company went bankrupt it would be unable to pay. That raises the theoretical possibility of a conflict of interest — if the public interest somehow demanded that Cheney take action that would hurt Halliburton it could conceivably end up costing him money personally. So to insulate himself from that possible conflict, Cheney purchased an insurance policy (which cost him $14,903) that promises to pay him all the deferred compensation that Halliburton owes him even if the company goes bust and refuses to pay. The policy does contain escape clauses allowing the insurance company to refuse payment in the unlikely events that Cheney files a claim resulting “directly or indirectly” from a change in law or regulation, or from a “prepackaged” bankruptcy in which creditors agree on terms prior to filing. But otherwise it ensures Cheney will get what Halliburton owes him should it go under.

Cheney aides supplied a copy of that policy to us — blacking out only some personal information about Cheney — which we have posted here publicly for the first time.

Stock Options

That still would leave the possibility that Cheney could profit from his Halliburton stock options if the company’s stock rises in value. However, Cheney and his wife Lynne have assigned any future profits from their stock options in Halliburton and several other companies to charity. And we’re not just taking the Cheney’s word for this — we asked for a copy of the legal agreement they signed, which we post here publicly for the first time.

The “Gift Trust Agreement” the Cheney’s signed two days before he took office turns over power of attorney to a trust administrator to sell the options at some future time and to give the after-tax profits to three charities. The agreement specifies that 40% will go to the University of Wyoming (Cheney’s home state), 40% will go to George Washington University’s medical faculty to be used for tax-exempt charitable purposes, and 20% will go to Capital Partners for Education, a charity that provides financial aid for low-income students in Washington, DC to attend private and religious schools.

The agreement states that it is “irrevocable and may not be terminated, waived or amended,” so the Cheney’s can’t take back their options later.

The options owned by the Cheney’s have been valued at nearly $8 million, his attorney says. Such valuations are rough estimates only — the actual value will depend on what happens to stock prices in the future, which of course can’t be known beforehand. But it is clear that giving up rights to the future profits constitutes a significant financial sacrifice, and a sizable donation to the chosen charities.

“Financial Interest”

Democrats have taken issue with Cheney’s statement to Tim Russert on NBC’s Meet the Press Sept. 14, 2003, when he said he had no “financial interest” in Halliburton:

Cheney (Sept. 14, 2003): I’ve severed all my ties with the company, gotten rid of all my financial interests. I have no financial interest in Halliburton of any kind and haven’t had now for over three years. And as vice president, I have absolutely no influence of, involvement of, knowledge of in any way, shape or form of contracts led by the Corps of Engineers or anybody else in the federal government.

Shortly after that, Democratic Sen. Frank Lautenberg released a legal analysis he’d requested from the Congressional Research Service. Without naming Cheney, the memo concluded a federal official in his position — with deferred compensation covered by insurance, and stock options whose after-tax profits had been assigned to charity — would still retain an “interest” that must be reported on an official’s annual disclosure forms. And in fact, Cheney does report his options and deferred salary each year.

But the memo reached no firm conclusion as to whether such options or salary constitute an “interest” that would pose a legal conflict. It said “it is not clear” whether assigning option profits to charity would theoretically remove a potential conflict, adding, “no specific published rulings were found on the subject.” And it said that insuring deferred compensation “might” remove it as a problem under conflict of interest laws.

Actually, the plain language of the Office of Government Ethics regulations on this matter seems clear enough. The regulations state: “The term financial interest means the potential for gain or loss to the employee . . . as a result of governmental action on the particular matter.” So by removing the “potential for gain or loss” Cheney has solid grounds to argue that he has removed any “financial interest” that would pose a conflict under federal regulations.

Conflict of Interest

It is important to note here that Cheney could legally have held onto his Halliburton stock options, and no law required him to buy insurance against the possibility that Halliburton wouldn’t pay the deferred compensation it owes him. Both the President and Vice President are specifically exempted from federal conflict-of-interest laws, for one thing, as are members of Congress and federal judges.

And even federal officials who are covered by the law may legally own a financial interest in a company, provided they formally recuse themselves — stand aside — from making decisions that would have a “direct and predictable effect on that interest.” And Cheney says he’s done just that.

Cheney says he takes no part in matters relating to Halliburton, and so far we’ve seen no credible allegation to the contrary. Time magazine reported in its June 7 edition that an e-mail from an unnamed Army Corps of Engineers official stated that a contract to be given to Halliburton in March 2003 “has been coordinated w VP’s [Vice President's] office.” But it wasn’t clear who wrote that e-mail, whether the author had direct knowledge or was just repeating hearsay, or even what was meant by the word “coordinated,” which could mean no more than that somebody in Cheney’s office was being kept informed of contract talks.

Indeed, a few days later it was revealed that Cheney’s chief of staff Lewis “Scooter” Libby was informed in advance that Halliburton was going to receive an earlier contract in the fall of 2002 — to secretly plan post-war repair of Iraq’s oil facilities. But being informed of a decision after it is made is a far cry from taking part in making it. And according to the White House, Libby didn’t even pass on the information to Cheney anyway.

So to sum up, this Kerry ad’s implication that Cheney has a financial interest in Halliburton is unfounded and the $2 million figure is flat wrong.

I’m a libertarian and I didn’t know if you were refering to those who believe in our founding principles. For Jeffereson was a “classic liberal”. Real analysis of the political structure of Nazi Germany reveal what it was – a corporatist state. What better title for a political movement than one that everyone can agree with? Actually, a recent report commissioned by the US Commerce Department and US Business leaders indicated that US Tourism has declined by 17% since 9/11 as a result of the poor image of the United States abroad. This ammounted to billions of dollars in lost tax revenue and tourism dollars.

Analysts are showing that the US expects only a 1% increase in toursim over the next decade.

Florida’s real estate market is tanking and the only people coming in for “tourism” are there to buy all the foreclosed homes and real estate out from underneath you. Also, if you read the Founding Fathers, such as Washington’s farewell address from 1797, you will see that they belived that personal accountablity is what makes democracy possible. I think impeachment is much better than assassination. Killing the vice president may sound like a great idea and possibly save lives, but it is illegal. I opposed Kerry in the primaries, but it was the lesser of two evils in the election. Bush is far more evil as he has demonstrated.

It is not historically accurate to say that the Kennedies financed Hitler. Like any American with stock in IBM, Ford, GM or many other corporations who did business with Hitler, they alegedly held stock in these companies.

But the Bushes were Hitler’s Bankers in the US. Their company was seized by the US government because it was identified as a Nazi business and egent of the Nazis.

How in the hell could we let people who supported Hitler get control of our government.

The Nazis had deep ties with Wall Street throughout the the war: but the BUSH family was behind Hitler and the plan for global fascist domination ( as well as the Holocaust) and a two thousand year Reich lock stock and barrel.

And as for michael moore and soros I have no reliable info on that or their investments. Radicalism itself needs to be ostracised and listening to any religion in the matters of the state is absolutely intolerable. So don’t tell me that Cheney or anyone else in this administration has broken the law, because if you knew anything about the law or the Constitution you would know they have not.

Everybody thought he had them because he stopped allowing inspectors in violating the terms of the first gulf war! That alone gave us right to attack Iraq with or without 9/11. The fact that 9/11 did occur only served the purpose of getting our balls back and doing what we had every right to do. It’s a fact that Saddam used chemical weapons against Iran and his own people. When he stopped allowing weapons inspections wouldn’t you logically conclude that he was hiding something? At the very least, after 9/11 do you really think we should have just done nothing and let him just ignore the terms of the cease-fire he agreed to? Libya got the message and aborted there programs and we did nothing to them. If Saddam had done the same thing…guess what…we wouldn’t have invaded Iraq. Ultimately, the choice was made him. Not Bush/Cheney. Also, just because we didn’t find WMD’s doesn’t mean he didn’t have them. Saddam knew for months that we were going to attack if we couldn’t inspect. If he had nothing to hide why didn’t he let the weapon inspectors do their job?

If Al Gore had been elected in 2000 do you people on the left not think we would have still gone to war with Iraq? He would have been using the same intelligence Bush was using all the while being pressured by a majority of Americans who supported it. If you just watched the coverage you wouldn’t know we are trying to establish a democratic government in a country where one has never existed. Our deficit will have at least doubled to 10 trillion, and they started out with a surplus.
Yet taxes have been significantly cut to the rich.
The dollar has reached it’s lowest point ever.
Oil prices have reached their highest ever.
An unnecessary, unjustified war continues in Iraq with no end in sight.
Almost 4,000 U.S. troops killed.
Nearly 30,000 U.S. troops injured badly enough that they can’t return to service.
Somewhere around 700,000 to 800,000 Iraqis killed.
Over 2 million Iragis displaced.
A never ending war on terror.
Think about the costs, the debt that this administration has laid upon every single person in this country. Think about the lives this adminstration has destroyed or will destroy.
Ask yourself if we need another war, this time with Iran, which could possibly send us into a global conflict.
Ask yourself if you feel safer than you did 7 years ago.
Ask yourself why these men should still be in office when nearly everything they have done has ended in failure.

Not everyone thought Sadaam had weapons of mass destruction. We should have known about what he had as we supplied him during his war with Iran, when we supported both sides.

As to Osama Bin Laden, his Mujhadeen was created and financed by British and U.S. intelligence services to fight the U.S.S.R. in Afganistan in the ’80s.

Don’t forget most of the terrorist on 9/11 were Saudi Nationals. Also, Dick Cheney was the head of Counterterrorism in this country from approximately May 2001. The Saudi’s have recently claimed they were tracking the 9/11 crew in this country, and had handed over intelligence to U.S. intelligence that an attack was imminent that they claim was never acted upon. I believe 9/11 for Dick Cheney was as the Reichstag fire was for Herman Goering; an inside job blamed on the Communists in the same way Cheney scapegoated Osama Bin Laden in his cave in Afghanistan for an attack carried out with military precision that Bin Laden, and his associates were incapable of doing without a lot of help.

Iraq was no threat to the security of the United States of America. The nation state of Iraq has been destroyed, and the United States of America is being destroyed by the war in Iraq. It’s time to hold the traitors accountable. Impeaching Cheney is the first step to restoring our integrity.

I was reminded today in Michelle Malkin’s Post Opinion piece “Faking the News In a ‘Good’ Cause” that Dan Rather was forced out of his job at CBS News for using the “faked National Guard memos… to smear President Bush.” It is amazing that no one but Kucinich wants to hold the administration to the same standard. I view his attempt to impeach Cheney yesterday as a sign that at least one Democrat in Congress is willing to stand up to the administration’s “Fear and Smear” strategy to trample the Constitution as they continue to tout the improvements in Iraq despite this year being the deadliest for U.S. forces. (Fear Strategy- Create a pervasive state of fear in the populace to make them freely give up or at least not fight for their individual rights laid out in the first ten amendments of the Constitution. Smear Strategy- Attack anyone in Congress, in the public eye or in the media who questions the administration’s agenda by smearing them as being unpatriotic (less popular now than earlier), as being against our troops in the field and as being soft on terrorism). If Rather can be fired for using forged documents, why can’t both Cheney and Bush be fired for having knowingly used forged documents (see uranium intel report vs. Joe Wilson report ordered by Cheney to begin with) to support their claims that the next terrorist strike could come in the form of a Iraqi mushroom cloud in one of our cities?
