‘Heroes’ Actress Panettiere Caught in Clash at Japanese Dolphin Slaughter Site

WARNING: GRAPHIC VIDEO. "It was really frightening. Some of us were hit by the boathook. But in the end all we really worried about was the dolphins. It was so incredibly sad. We were so close to them and they were sky hopping, jumping out of the water to see us. One little baby dolphin stuck his head out and kinda looked at me and the thought that it's no longer with us is really hard to take."

This is tragic for sure, and it’s easy to be sympathetic for dolphins given their passive nature. But one could just as easily make as moving a news-story about how Americans and others around the world slaughter cows. Just as gruesome. But nobody wants to do that, because everybody loves their Big Macs.

The Observer   November 1st, 2007 - 10:37 am

People are so hypocrite.

If a group of people started to defend vegetables against being turned into salads, they would be called names and insulted for their ridiculous claims.

These dolphins are not being killed for fun or pleasure, but to feed people. QUESTION: Are we gonna kill the sharks because they kill dolphins too?

This is a matter of survival, and I would choose ANY human’s life first before an animal.

Are we simply gonna protect those animals that look cute and cuddly…BS!!! B.S.!

Eric   November 1st, 2007 - 11:11 am

Yeah, it’s easy to write off the dolphins or compare them to cows. Except dolphins are proven to have intelligence, teach their young after learning from bad (and good) experiences and even use tools. They aren’t killing cows for big macs…they are killing what is equivalent to a 3-4 year old human child for food they do NOT need. It’s a barbaric and shameful tradition and I’m deeply ashamed of the japanese people who partake in this “event”.

God   November 1st, 2007 - 11:43 am

We eat meat. True. BUT we also have raised certain creature for that purpose. I.e.: cows, chickens.
And we -hopefully- kill them in the quickest and most painless manner.

These Dolphins are wild creatures who have social lives, thoughts, and have actually saved human lives. They have intelligence on a par with us.

This is no different than slaughtering humans for food.

This is but an example of why the planet will be here for another 5 -10 billion years, but the ‘human’ race continues to breed itself into extinction.

I can honestly say I’ve never seen Dolphin/Porpoise meat available here in Japan. There cannot be much difference between it and whale meat which is quite yummy.

At the end of the day, if the population is sustainable and it can be used as food then there shouldn’t be anything wrong with it.

Larry   November 1st, 2007 - 12:36 pm

The Japanese have always been famous for cruelty and lack of empathy.

Leon   November 1st, 2007 - 12:41 pm

These dolphins are not being killed to be eaten – they are being killed because these fishermen believe that they are the cause of stock depletion. The meat from these dolphins will be used, at best, as fertilizer if not just dumped somewhere. Its not even fit for human consumption as the mercury levels are off the charts.

These dolphins are killed because these people have a grudge on them.

The way in which they are slaughtered is disgusting. We don’t allow cows or chickens to be put through this much stress, pain and torment yet you are defending this?

A huge part of the problem here is that the normal Japanese person has no idea this is happening. Show it to anybody outside of these isolated fishing villages and the response will be shock, anger and disgust. Everyone knows how intelligent and social dolphins are, Japan is no exception.

The other issue is that the government sanctions and to a degree even encourages this behavior. Worse still is the practice of selling the “best” dolphins to various aquariums before the slaughter begins, which is where they get a majority of money for this sickening act.

You know, I can understand how people can say that we as humans do the same to cows and chickens daily. And believe me it is cruel, but these dolphins are in the wild. They aren’t breeded. And they are killing them by asfixiation, hanging them by the tail until they drowned (by what i saw in the video). We don’t cover cows mouths and noses until they die, or at least, decent people/companies do not do that. What we see here, in my opinion is slaugther. The dolphins aren’t being breeded and they are killing any and all dolphins in a very horrible manner.

Brandon   November 1st, 2007 - 2:48 pm

This is just wrong. Simple as that. These are intelligent and wild animals which are being trapped and slaughtered.

Brad   November 1st, 2007 - 3:18 pm

Yeah, just look at Pearl Harbor as a prime example. Although we did drop two atomic bombs over there which is far worse than Pearl Harbor. Not to get off track here though… What these people are doing is absolutely unjustified. They’re probably doing it just to feel the power of catching a sea creature of a dolphin’s size. Why else do you think poachers hunt whales? Mostly because of their sheer size. And you can’t tell me that if you were in the position of the dolphin that you wouldn’t be scared shitless. Try being a defenseless animal in that position for a second and I guarantee you’d be singing an entirely different tune!

Max Plank   November 1st, 2007 - 3:30 pm

If you want to eat meat, eat it – but dont hide behind the delusion that animals are not intelligent and dont have feelings. Anyone who has been around animals knows this. The only difference is that they dont express either their intelligence or feelings in a way that we comprehend them. Anyone who doubts that animals experience both physical and emotional pain – is either misinformed or doesnt care.

Whether we breed them or they breed themselves makes no difference. At the end of the day, we are killing an intelligent and feeling creature, all for a few moments of pleasure, for our taste buds.

I dont write this to suggest you stop eating meat – that is your choice – just do it with your eyes open.

gendou   November 1st, 2007 - 3:58 pm

The clear moral question is: Which animals do we wish to kill and eat?
Dolphins are mammals, but look like fish.
In the Japanese traditional understanding, they are just a large variety of fish.
Fish is not considered “meat” in the Japanese language.
The Japanese word for meat is “Niku”, and fish is simply called “Sakana”, which means fish.

We kill and eat mammals in the USA: cows, pigs, and lambs.
Pigs, at least, have similar emotional and intellectual characteristics to dolphins.

Indeed, it is hypocritical to criticizes killing of dolphins for food but not equally criticize eating pork.

The animal rights organization is picking on Japan because they are an easy target.
Foreigners aren’t going to be sued for disrupting the fishermen’s work.
The man in the beginning was yelling, “you’re disrupting our work, get lost, go away!” in Japanese.

The animal rights activists would have even more of my sympathy and support for their cause if they chose more honorable means of getting their message out and getting things done.

Like my betters have said, slaughtering of cows, hogs, chickens, etc. doesn’t seem to bother anyone, but cetaceans are a different story! That’s because various media have anthropomorphized cetaceans (i.e., Flipper) into human equals. SOTN! IF IT AIN’T HUMAN, IT’S EDIBLE!

Belle   November 1st, 2007 - 4:57 pm

NO NO NO NO!
THIS IS COMPLETELY WRONG , THOSE DOPLHINS ARE SCARED AND TERRIFIED!
IT IS WORSE THAN TORTURE.
I BET HALF OF YOU THINK THAT ITS WRONG FOR A HUMAN TO BE BEHEADED BUT THEN YOU SAY ITS OK FOR DOLPHINS TO BE KILLED LIKE THIS !
THE DOLPHINS HAVE BEEN DRAGGED INTO A COVE FULL OF THEIR FRIENDS AND FAMILIES BLOOD AND THEN HAVE HOOKS AND STRINGS ATTACHED TO THEIR FLIPPERS! THEY ARE THEN INJURED AND PULLED OUT WHERE AS THEY ARE DEPERATLEY TRYING TO GET AWAY THEY ARE SLASHED AND STABBED WITH KNIVES UNTIL THEY DIE ! AND THE REMAINING ONES AT THE END OF THE DAY HAVE TO QUAKE IN FEAR IN A SMALL GROUP OF ABOUT 7 ! ONLY 7! ONLY 7 LEFT FROM 40 DOLPHINS ONLY A FEW HOURS BEFORE!THEY HAVE TO BE IN A GROUP OF 7 AND STAY THE NIGHT PINNED UP JUST INCHES AWAY FROM THE BLOODY WATER ,THEY ARE TERRIFIED , THEY HAVE SEEN THEIR FRIENDS KILLED AND KNOW THEY ARE GONNA BE KILLED TOMMORROW!

ITS DISGUSTING!

THE SLAUGHTERING OF COWS AND CHICKENS ETC DOESNT BOTHER PEOPLE AS IT IS DONE HUMANELY AND THE ANIMALS DONT HAVE TO LIVE IN THIER FRIENDS BLOOD OR WATCH THEIR FRIENDS BE KILLED ! THEY HAVE WAYS TO MAKE SURE THEY FEEL VERY MINIMAL AMOUNTS OF PAIN ! YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED FOR SAYING THAT THIS SLAUGHTER OF THOUSANDS OF DOLPHINS ,FOR FOOD THAT GETS DUMPED IN ALANDFILL AND THE END OF THE DAY ANYWAY , IS ACCEPTABLE
AND I SWEAR THAT THERE WILL BE A STOP TO THIS .

!

Missie   November 1st, 2007 - 5:12 pm

The comments about people not caring about cows being killed for bigmacs etc are a load of BULL.
There are tons of people out there who are Veggie because they don’t want animals to die for their food.
We DO NOT need to eat animals. A plant based diet is 100% more healthy than that of a meat eater.

And for the people who think that plants feel pain just like animals:
YOU TAKE A VISIT TO A SLAUGHTER HOUSE AND THEN TAKE A VISIT TO A STRAWBERRY HARVEST AND TELL ME THAT PLANTS FEEL PAIN LIKE ANIMALS. Do you hear the plants SCREAMING???? Do you see them scared shitless????
Anyone who can watch animals being slaughted, going through an agonising death and tell me they don’t care are nothing but scum. How can killing animals be right??????

JRose   November 1st, 2007 - 5:45 pm

I think it is sad to see humans use their dominance to torture other species.
Granted we kill ‘farm animals’ for food too.
For some reason half of you here seem to think that farm animals are not tortured before they are slaughtered. I see the meat industry has done a good job on you. Most farm animals live their life out in suffering before they are killed. Ever heard of a factory farm? Where do you think all the cheap meat comes from?

Besides the fact that the dolphins are wild animals and that they are basically tortured before they are killed and forced to watch their friends and family die, is there really any other difference than killing what we label ‘farm animals?’

In all non-3rd world countries, there is absolutely no reason why we need to eat meat. we have access to any type of nourishing food we can think of. Must I go on?

Panettiere’s time could have been better spent filming the slaughter taking place inside of abortion clinics.
Of course in the U.S. abortion is legal as is dolphin fishing in Japan.
It seems Panettiere et al want to force their life style and beliefs on people of another nation. Oddly enough that is what the collectivists of the United States accuse the U.S. government of doing.
Don’t Panettiere’s actions indicate she is an agent of the U.S. government?

1. they are very intelligent and family orientated animals and have the capacity to realise there fate, Especially when they are waiting for hours smelling the blood of there relatives washing over them. Fish have only a basic brain and have no concept of family ties or capacity to reason a fishermans intentions.
2. As predators at the top of the food chain they evolved to be at very little risk of predation, and so reproduce more slowly and have a smaller total biomass than that of there prey. So they don’t have the breeding capacity to be predated on.

Sorry, but unless you’re a vegetarian, whining about this simply makes you a hypocrite. Humans ARE above any animal on a moral scale and NO animal is “equivalent” to a 3- or 4-year-old toddler… whether it’s Bambi, Rin Tin Tin, or Flipper. This is simply irrational human beings anthropomorphizing wild animals in their own mind, because they happen to be “cute” and seem to mimic some “human” traits.

Dolphins are higher than tuna, because they’re mammals? Yet are ALSO higher than cows (which Americans eat in ABUNDANCE) because dolphins happen to be in the wild when they’re caught??? How about deer and other creatures which are wild when killed and served up here in the States? Sheer stupidity and hypocritical reasoning. Just because an animal can bounce a ball on its nose DOESN’T make it equal or deserving of the same consideration as a HUMAN.

These activists are simply fools wasting their energy trying to prevent activities they’re more than happy to support and encourage in their own country. The only difference is, the animals killed in THEIR countries simply aren’t considered “cute” enough to waste any tears over. How very HOLLYWOOD of them. >:P

The people who argue that this is the same as slaughtering cows are idiots. The Japanese don’t farm the dolphins– they round up wild dolphins and butcher them. They don’t seem to give a rat’s rear if they wipe out endangered species or if their killing methods are humane.

The young starlet, who has a right to stand up for what she is passionate about, called a dolphin a “Baby” Hmm… everyday in America, more than 5,000 REAL Babies, not masses of tissue, are legally murdered. It’s called abortion. Funny how folks don’t get upset about that. Something to think about.

lancelot   November 2nd, 2007 - 12:49 pm

The Japanese use the dolphin meat. Not senseless slaughter. There have been dolphins for this, for centuries, and there will be for centuries to come. These activists are much like the religious zealots that interfere with cultures and societies through out the world in an effort to force their own will on others. Rubbish!

American in Tokyo   November 2nd, 2007 - 1:00 pm

Most of these posts make a comment about Japan or Japanese people which reflects genuine ignorance of how things are here. The actions and reactions of the filming crew and the team of surfers similarly reflect both ignorance of and indifference to the various attitudes, philosophies, and opinions of the people of Japan. This is the kind of cultural arrogance that Europeans claim is quintessentially American, yet appears to transcend those bounds at least in this video. What makes you feel so much more qualified to determine moral right than Japanese fishermen? Did God make you better than them?

brad   November 2nd, 2007 - 1:03 pm

I understand your love for the beautiful animal and i admire the effort to save them. However, I must ask why you choose to start all this up about Dolphins? I mean the slaughter of Cows any less in brutality. It is just as brutal. Even Further, we are trying to take away the choice of these fisherman to feed their families with an animal. Why are these two examples said to be brutal when abortion is not. Is it not the choice of the Fisherman to decide if the whales live or die. Why is humanity not a protected species? Is our own species not just as important to protect. It seems as though the value of a dolphin is greater than that of a human. Just a thought blessings to you all.
the bottom line is, into the fabric of the universe is woven an elemental law. In order for life to continue some thing else has to die. It is not avoidable.

Flipper's friend   November 2nd, 2007 - 1:54 pm

Quote from wjmember: Hmm… everyday in America, more than 5,000 REAL Babies, not masses of tissue, are legally murdered. It’s called abortion. Funny how folks don’t get upset about that. Something to think about.

Uh don’t get upset about that? …thousands of people each day, all over the country, protest abortion (half the country is against it)…btw, it could be pointed out that the protesters against the dolphin hunt protested peacefully (I haven’t heard of any dolphin protesters killing the fisherman or blowing up the slaughter house)

The real reason for the outrage here is:

1) the dolphin is a mammal and on a much higher intellectual level than other animals. Humans have more of a kinship with them (name me another animal, outside of apes, that can communicate thru sign language to humans? …dolphins can)

2) and the manner in which they are being hunted and slaughtered.

I think that is the real issue here. While some might still be upset that dolphins are killed, the graphic and violent manner in which these mammals are being killed in Japan makes it a very easy target for condemnation.

One last thought for debate: If deep down the fishermen didn’t think that what they are doing (or at least the manner in which they are doing it) wasn’t at least somewhat wrong…why do they spend so much time and effort trying to hide what they are doing (to the point, sometimes, of violence?)

massa   November 2nd, 2007 - 2:09 pm

What does “intelligent animals” mean?
For Hindi, cows are intelligent and sacred, but no Indians criticize Anglo Saxons for their diet.

This is legal fishing, and the amount of the fishery is controlled by Japanese government whose criterion is stricter than IWC’s.

I suppose we should not kill the animals that are in danger of extinction. Very obvious.
But this kind of dolphin has heaps of population as bluefin tunas. With global care about these resources, there are no risk of extinction.

All advocates of animal right should watch the series of the video below,

Marketing 101 for Japanese Fishermen:

Dolphin McNuggets!!

1. The Japanese ought to “farm-raise” these dolphins like we farm raise tuna and salmon. On land, we farm raise cows, chickens, and pigs. This should quell the animal wackos justifications that dolphins cannot be hunted since they’re “raised in the wild.”

2. The Japanese should market these as “Free-Range Dolphins” if they can’t manage to farm raise them. Should be a tasty treat they can market at your local Trader Joes.

3. Lastly, the Japanese fishing industry should market to the Sushi-eating liberals and media: “You can’t eat quality sushi, if they’re getting ravaged by dolphins.” Dolphin-free Sushi!!

If the dolphins were SO smart, they wouldn’t be caught-up in this mess anyway. Think about that when you eat your next spicy tuna roll!

Cheers,

Paul

Re “why hide it if you don’t think it’s wrong?”(Flipper’s Friend) – because arrogant Americans/Europeans/Australians/other white people who think they know everything and that other colors of people don’t have a valid claim on morality DO think it’s wrong.
When someone comes into your community and tries to stop you from making a living because they think it is wrong, you do what you can to defend yourself and your family. In Japan, people tend to be relatively gentle. If Japanese people came to the US, not only would the farm be hidden, but the people would be arrested for terrorism and thrown in jail or else shot at and chased out of town.

Cows and chickens slaughtered “humanely”? Are you guys on crack or just in deep denial? Have you ever seen what they do do these cows and chickens? WAAAAY worse than what I just saw.

I can understand how you feel sympathy for the dolphins but WAKE UP. Do a little research before you post any of this hypocritical crap about dolphins.

Mike   November 4th, 2007 - 5:56 pm

I, too, am against harvesting dolphins…in my country.
This is an excellent display of liberal hypocrisy. America goes in to free a nation from tyranny, the Republican president is branded a Nazi.
Left-wing nutjob celebrity tries to endanger Japan’s own dwindling food supply and impose her will on their dietary practices of centuries and she’s glamorized.
HYPOCRITES.

FoodyGoody   November 4th, 2007 - 6:27 pm

It saddens me to think I’ve seen several comments how to deal with the situation. Recommendations of dropping another Atomic Bomb?! And complain about useless killings in the same sentence, boycotting a countries products and what get toys from China tainted with lead instead? Americans drive so many foreign cars and have electronic equipment infiltrated from Japan, Taiwan, Korea and China that you would not be able to live comfortably.

Stupidity is what I see for the most part in the comments – or uneducated people making uneducated comments.

What bothers me the most is the statement about dropping a Nuke? What sense does that make (human and animal lives killed – to prove a point?)

I wonder where KFC, Burger King, McDonald’s, Wendy’s and other Fast Food chains get their meats and how are the animals are caged and feed and kept alive until their are slaughtered.

P.E.T.A. has some interesting videos for this and other countries. And if slaughtering animals solely based on intelligence starting with the lower intellect – then I see a few humans who are good candidates who’ve posted here.

Humans have to realize one thing; they will do whatever they need to do to survive. The study has been done with rats in a simulated over population – the same will happen to people.

May the lord have mercy on all of us.

kajigorojp   November 4th, 2007 - 11:56 pm

Crooked justice.
It is a reckless action for the Japanese food culture.
American kills a cow and a turkey, and eating.
Is there a difference with a Japanese eating a dolphin?
You watch a hamburger with Mac and do cry?
The cow which you usually eat is valued as a messenger of God distantly in the remote other countries.
The negation of the culture is racial discrimination.

kikonyc   November 5th, 2007 - 1:08 am

Dolphins are merely pests to some fishermans. They destroy Fishing nets and they cost so much.
If a bear kills cows in a farm, humans kill it right?
Dolphins go in the netted area and eat the fish AND destroy the nets. Fishermans are pretty pissed off as you can imagine. So kill them.

Don’t kill dolphins because they are intelligent?
What’s intelligence? We can kill cows and chickens because they are stupid?
Well, we don’t know that cows are stupid. The thing is, it’s only egoistic to say that humans are most intelligent animals on earth. If we are so intelligent, why are we destroying the whole planet that we live on? Making babies endlessly and thoughtlessly, we can even feed all of them…. No other animals do that. Humans only can define “Intelligence” in the way we think. But there just might much more out there we can even imagine.
Humans think dolphins are intelligent only because they behave and communicate in the way we can relate to. That doesn’t mean chickens and salmons don’t communicate with each other. We just don’t know most of what goes on in the wild.

kikonyc   November 5th, 2007 - 1:26 am

One more thing.
I don’t think it’s important to save endangered species.
All animals eventually go extinct. Yes, humans too.
It’s natural.

If you say it’s not natural if extinction is caused by humans, yes, it’s natural.

Then maybe you say, ” then it’s natural that humans also save species” . Yes, maybe. But it doesn’t really help the whole enviroment. Do it if it makes you feel good. But it’s only personal, not global.

Let me just say this. When earth needs to be saved, it will save itself. It won’t need humans effort or help. Earth doesn’t need humans as it is now.

Animals kill other lives for food naturally.
Vegans kill just the same. So let it be.

Living in Japan   November 5th, 2007 - 7:51 am

Yes, Japan also kill Sharks. They cut off their fin to make soup, and in many cases just toss the shark back in the water, finless, in agony and unable to swim because the meat doesn’t sell well.

Screw this country, I’m sick of living here.

kajigorojp   November 5th, 2007 - 1:28 pm

The lie is not good.
Lazy Americans of the liars are always the causes of the evil.
The fins of the shark are exported mainly for China.
The remaining possible appetite department becomes the processed food to call kamaboko.
The cartilage part is used for chondroitin.
A cortex is used for various products.
The Japanese uses it without waste carefully.

Bobby   November 6th, 2007 - 5:21 am

I am an American and I lived in Taiji for one year as part of the JET Program. The town of Taiji has historically been tied to whaling for hundreds of years. The whale and dolphin have long been a major resource because of the geography. This town was close enough to the whale migration route to be able to go out in row boats for the hunt. Every part of the whale was used and it was the major source of food. It was a common practice to never hunt a mother whale with a calf. In 1878, a whale was spotted with a calf. At this point in time, whales were scarce because the American whaling fleet had reduced the whale supply for oil. One of the town leaders decided to order the hunt because the town needed the food. It was a disaster, as many as 130 men died and traditional whaling in Taiji had come to a halt. You can read the entire story at this link: http://luna.pos.to/whale/jwa_taiji.html

Today, Taiji fishermen, although they look mean and angry towards protesters, have a deep reverence for whales. There is an annual whale festival, a shrine, and whale decorations are everywhere, even on the manholes. Hunting dolphins and whales is a livelihood based on cultural tradition, not because they are evil and deserve to be a-bombed. The video mentions that 23,000 dolphins were caught every year. I’m pretty sure that the limit for Taiji’s catch is much lower, like around 2,000. The area for processing the meat is quite small, you can actually see the slaughterhouse in the video. I never saw more than half a dozen at a time, but then again they don’t go around announcing when they do the big catch like the one in the video. Personally, I think it’s not fair to cry about the treatment of dolphins when most of the farm factories are far worse. Whose crying for the chickens! At least the wild dolphins have a chance to escape, if they are so smart, teach them to stay out of Japanese territorial waters.

I have to add that the town is getting smaller, all the young people don’t have an interest in whaling. I’m not so sure that the tradition will last much longer. Plus there is an increase in whale tourism. I think if more tourists visit Taiji, they won’t have to rely so heavily on the whaling industry for income. Just don’t point your video cameras at any fishermen, it makes them very angry!

Japanese fishermen are so cruel, no soul.

Roy Fitz   November 11th, 2007 - 10:31 am

Let’s see. Perhaps it is not wise to net fish in a migration route and then blame the mammals (Dolphins and Porpoises) in that route for eating the fish inside the nets. It is emotional to watch the death of a wild animal at the hands of humans. However, I believe the livelihood of being a Taiji fisherman, once dependent on whales, to vent their wrath on mammals who were there before they were is not a good answer. There is an eco-system here that they depend on and by reducing their competition by killing it, they may damage their livelihood in the future. Instead of disparaging the Japanese on a whole (again), let’s help them find solutions to their “problems”. We have brains too, so let’s use them this time instead of hurling insults, which only make this worse. What about building a better net that keeps the mammals out and the fish in? Or placing sonar sounds that the mammals don’t like, to keep them from the fish? Anybody else got some ideas? Some people are wise and the rest are otherwise…

MuckFexico   November 11th, 2007 - 11:13 am

Its awful what we do to damn near any fish or animal. I would rather save these dolphins than most fat, lazy humans that do nothing but sit around with their IQs of 75 and shove McDonald’s down their fat, disgusting throats. At least these animals are making the world a more beautiful, interesting, and romantic place. The majority of human beings are worthless trash that would not be missed except by the proprietors of fast-food restaurants.

It is a mistake to tell a dolphin in the same value with a person.
The IQ is a dangerous value judgment to evaluate partly of the people.
Your description thinks like the true intention of the dolphin protection advocate.
I feel the American social distortion that the sacrifice of the low income earner of the overwhelming majority produces.

Scott   November 25th, 2007 - 6:11 pm

Not as sad as the unborn babies that are slaughtered daily…
Our world has murdered over 250 million children, and that is what I would cry over. Once that stops I would be OK with taking up ANIMAL causes, but not until then.

jerry   November 26th, 2007 - 3:34 am

Go Japan!!! Do what you want with the dolphins.

I love these people who think that the value of life depends on intellegence. They argue that a dolphin is smarter than a cow and therefore its life is worth more. Using that logic, if there is ever a famine or any other similar breakdown, we should feed the smart people first and let the dumb people die. Smart people should get life saving medical care and donated organs before dumb people. Yeah, intelligence = value is a really good principle to build on…

Brian   November 26th, 2007 - 3:40 am

Hey Rob… The difference between cows and dolphins is that dolphins are intelligent, cows are herd animals.

Personally I can’t see how anyone could eat dolphin.

I didn’t see too many Japanese TV stars protesting. And nice to see the American TV star managed to get her close-up, with the tears.

I wonder how many of these “brave activists”(sic) are as exercised over the HUNDREDS of UNBORN (HUMAN) BOYS and GIRLS who are ABORTED (read: MURDERED) DAILY in the US, in Canada, in the UK, and — yes — in JAPAN?

People who are more concerned about dolphins than people remind me of Adolph Hitler, who– YES! — was a VEGETARIAN, but who ALSO gladly had innocent human beings slaughtered by the train-car load.

Oh, and when are these “brave activists” going to try some of their “save the animals” stunts in places like China, Saudi Arabia, or Iran — where the police will be a good deal less tolerant and patient than those in Japan?

These “activists” are self-indulgent and have the intellectual wherewithal of adolescents. (”Sniff. Sniff.”)

Also, if these “activists” REALLY thought dolphins were equivalent to humans, the wealthier ones would raise them and care for them like children, and I suspect that they do NOT! ;-)

Johnny   March 11th, 2008 - 9:04 pm

Now that I’m reading all of these comments about how an animal is just an animal. I understand but to not care is a little disturbing. Yes saving babies, stopping wars are all very important. This to me is just another important matter. It doesn’t make it less or more important then other issues in the world. Most places in the world are a pretty F***ed up place to be. And guess who causes most of it, people do so guess who has to try and control people making bad decisions? People do because animals can’t so if you want to argue in circles, that’s all it’s going to be and nothing will ever get solved. That seems to be the case, it seems this world’s just going to hell in a handbasket! Enjoy the trip folks.

Most people don’t realise that during WW2, the Japanese had concentration camps which made Auschwitz’s gas chambers look like a humane way of putting people out of their misery. The Japanese military used to skin people alive and then see how long they lived, or leave them out in the cold naked to see how long they could cope, among other awful thing. All in the name of “scientific research”. This kind of thing has been going on in their culture for a long time. In what other country is there a sub-genre of porn where up to 20 men ejaculate on the same woman’s face? Degradation and inhumanity are entertainment there. The dolphin culls, whale culls, are all barbaric, inhumane acts and should be stopped. Simple.

Dolphins are smart and loving animal, we have worked on the dubai dolphinarium show lightings and have watched them over and over again to coordinate the lights with their shows. i say dolphins are like humans, they have, moods and real emotions … when we are watching them we fell in love with them. they are like humans with fins …. they follow orders from their trainers so when they do this it means that they trust us humans, and i have also read about dolphins being the defender of the sea against sharks ,.. and there is another article about a fisher man rescued by dolphins against shark attack ..

i Don’t understand why these stupid japs would want to kill them ??? when i was watching this video i feel like we are betraying these dolphin’s if we, the world wouldn’t do anything to stop this massacre

i cant stand japanese!!!!
they kill whales, dolphins, fish, sharks.. AS if they dont get enough money out of fish.
dolphins are smart creatures, warm blooded like us, they wernt made to feed fat asians, or made for them to get money off them
the reasons we kill chickens ect. is to survive!
why the frikk would they need to kill dolphins?
its not like its going to help us survive to be honest i just think them japs do it for fun they have NO heart
i sware if i EVER came president or something i would go over to jappan and put them in jail!!!!
for LIFE
see how they like it?

jay   August 24th, 2009 - 9:17 pm

in the Buddhism, people believe that all life are equal, and believe in the “circle of transmigration”. that means we may be a dog, cow, whale etc. in our next life. people do not evaluate and rank a LIFE depending on how smart they are. it seems that westerns do not think the same. that may be the reason why they came up with an idea of slavery, thinking that “life” of colored people are less valuable than the whites and can be treated n a different way. same applies here. 1) kill cows and pigs cause they are not intelligent, but save dolphins cause they are smart. 2) colored japs are less intelligent than the whites and their cultures are barbarious and worthless cause they are different from the western cultures.

Aloka   August 26th, 2009 - 9:03 am

So so devistating and heart breaking. There is a world full of different people protesting for different causes from the killing of the unborn child to saving our forests to saving whales and dolphins, every one of these causes needs a voice and thats what these people are doing. Just because they are protesting against the slaughtering of dolphins DOES NOT mean that they care less for human life or causes related, they are following what is in there heart as are people who protest to save the unborn child etc. We should all be thanking them for the amazing work that they are doing instead of writing negative comments on pages like these. Make a positive change in the world, big or small, and do’nt criticize people who have the courage, heart, passion and strength to take a stand for what they believe in.

“The Japanese who eats the whale has gone mad. ”

「The president is summer vacation. It enjoyed hunting the deer. 」
Which is cruel?

The South Korean eats the dog.
The Japanese says.
「The dog is a pet. Killing is cruel. 」

The Japanese eats the horse.
The South Korean says.
「The horse is an animal for which man is useful. Killing is cruel. 」

The Japanese eats the octopus.
The French eats the snail.

It’s so annoying to read comments like,”50,000 babies slaughtered in a day-abortion,” or “The U.S Kills tons in Iraq war- No one cares about that!” Is that what we are talking about here? The video wasn’t about the war or abortion it was about killing dolphins whether it be for meat, for sport, for skin products in the most inhumane way possible.

I see protest about abortion and the war taking place in the U.S. People don’t down play what is really going on. If those fisherman felt that there was nothing wrong with what they were doing and the way they were doing it….they wouldn’t have been so…so… pissed off!!!!
