‘That’s America’: Michelle Obama Slams Stereotypes, Misconceptions and Ignorance
January 2008: "We don't like being pushed outside of our comfort zones. You know it right here on this campus. You know people sitting at different tables- you all living in different dorms. I was there. You're not talking to each other, taking advantage that you're in this diverse community. Because sometimes it's easier to hold on to your own stereotypes and misconceptions. It makes you feel justified in your own ignorance... That's America. So the challenge for us is are we ready for change?"
Almost.. but she closed with that 10-YO girl story which is such obvious B.S. that it makes me want to nominate her for The Hillary Tall Tale Award.
JoserMarch 26th, 2008 - 4:57 pm
Listen to this nappy headed ‘ho. Obama should have told her to shut her trap long ago. Smarmy remarks, based on years of listening to and agreeing with a pastor that so hates whitey and America. The reason we don’t want to sit at the same tables is because blacks don’t tip. Waiters and waitresses know the last people they want at their tables is blacks. And the last person we want in the White House is Hussein Osama.
RandyMarch 26th, 2008 - 5:01 pm
Shes right to some extent. But its not that she objects to ignorance and racism and belonged to that church for all those years. Its when that ignorance is directed towards her that she objects. And Mayor of Vice, its not that racism is more prevalent in the black community than in the white community, its that it is tolerated and accepted much more in the black community. If a white man tried to run and said some of the racist things Obama did, white people would not vote for him. The white community would denounce and distance ourselves from him. Unlike Obama we do not regards ignorance and racism to be an ingrained part of our community so much so that we cannot denounce it anymore than we can the community as a whole. What this speech is is a very good description of her and her husbands beliefs. They don’t want to be pushed out of their comfort zones and want to hold on to the ignorant views of Wright that they have listened to for decades. As for her complaints that people aren’t taking advantage of the diversity, look what her husband says. I got to tell you, hearing a black man say that racism is a trait of typical white people doesn’t exactly encourage interracial friendship. Her and Barack preach change and racial harmony while they cling to the racist views of some old washed up “pastor” and just can’t seem to change themselves. Anyone else seeing through this bs?
FlivverMarch 26th, 2008 - 5:04 pm
I’m glad that Michelle Obama is admitting that her view of America if full of stereotypes, misconceptions and ignorance like:
America created the AIDS virus to kill Africans.
All white people are racists, they just may not know it.
Last time I checked, I don’t think she is old enough to had to deal with segregation at college, but then again the LIBERAL ivy league school that she went to could be racist. Afterall, it is run by LIBERALS.
Its time for the Obama’s with their America Hating, racist pastor to go away. Go back to your racist church and Chicago and leave us non-racists, who love America alone!
sorrosMarch 26th, 2008 - 6:29 pm
Then why did she belong to a church whose paster is one of the formost race baiters in the country.
He spews hatres and racism on a daily basis
Such a hypocrite.
SteveMarch 26th, 2008 - 6:47 pm
LAME IS LAME-BRAINED. There are many haters that are White too Lame and you are a Star! A good Obama talking points right down to the “white woman’ thing!

How dare you judge her and try to tell her what to do with what she worked hard for. She respects the things that are hers and wants to be a good steward them. And wipe your racist feet befor you come in this house! The obamas know nothing of the rights of the people of this country, and they will take them away from you, if it fits into their world view that has been cultivated in their hearts the last 20 years in rev (the anti American racist) wrights church. Beware they are PC police on steroids!

Michelle Obama’s definition of America, “justified in your ignorance”.
Sorry Michelle, you just described the Democrat Party.
burtMarch 26th, 2008 - 7:39 pm
Relax SIMON, no one is suprised you are voting for obama you are his voting block. It’s funny you show by your comments that you are guilty of the very same things you accuse others of. Good luck with all of that. typical lib.
robinMarch 26th, 2008 - 7:43 pm
“Go put some Toby Keith in the stereo, get in our Ford truck with the Dale Ernhardt stickers, hunt some deer and be blissfully ignorant! Yee-Haw!”
Simon was that your definition of a typical white person that doesn’t vote for Obama? Sounds a bit narrow minded and ignorant.
Logic LeeMarch 26th, 2008 - 8:45 pm
Don’t be fooled by letting yourself be drawn into the racism debate. This is a side issue and hardly ranks up there with the most pressing issues of our time. I can guarantee you that the liberal social engineers are just leveraging this issue as a power grab.
The big issue of the age is freedom and the loss thereof. Beat back big government and the liberal elite or you soon will be nothing more than a slave. The liberal aristocracy won’t care because they have the control and the subserviaet masses in their ignorance won’t even realize they are impotent servants of the state.
AndreaMarch 26th, 2008 - 9:30 pm
Oh geesh, Jane so big of you. I too lived in Germany and talked with “different nationality” and what I learned their blew my mind, the skinheads thrive to this day. As for the South, get real, what use to be a safe Atlanta is now so unsafe that Coretta King had to move out of her home because of the thugs nasty, make up your own history why don’t you.
As for Simon, get with it! If this was a white Presidential candidate you would be singing a different tune, have you even bothered listening to the kind of garbage that was spewed by that man Wright,, I won’t even call him a pastor, no true man of God would spew such hatred against other races. His latest racist rant is to call Italians “garlic noses”, such a educated, Godly man. This Wright was more than a pastor to the Obama’s he was a friend and mentor, Obama said that not I.

She hates stereotypes? So when will she be divorcing her husband and Rev. Wright?
RobertMarch 27th, 2008 - 12:40 am
If we don’t want change, WHY FORCE IT ON PEOPLE??????? It is the arrogace of these leftist who think THEY know the “right” way.
She wants the BLACKS to vote – I wonder why? Because she knows they are racists and will vote for “BRK” – which is apparently how Hussein pronounces his name according to her. I thought there were some vowels in there, but “Michelle” seems to not think so.
If not for Affirmative Action, Michelle would not have been qualified is what she says.
Wonder when someone will approach her to tell her that her little cough-laugh is going to turn people off?
LameMarch 27th, 2008 - 1:42 am
As a white-american, I find a lot of views of us hypocritical. First, affirmative action is a policy that was created by us. Blacks don’t serve in law-making capacities to an extent that would them capable of passing this type of legislation. How do we hold them responsible for a law that was inacted by whites and has benefited white women more than any other group.? Obviously, a segment of our population still holds on to ignorant beliefs because it gives us something to bitch about. This country was built on our ideas. Me and my peers don’t have to hold on to racial animosity because we work hard to live comfortable in this great country and don’t blame our failings on minorities. If a White-American is poor and angry here it is because they are underachievers. Wealthy Americans don’t hold on to these beliefs because we know that politically, economically and socially we hold power. This Obama guy is sharp. I’m willing to give him a chance because because hard-working, wealthy, white-Americans will always be successful in America. I hate no group of people!!
RoverMarch 27th, 2008 - 1:49 am
Hi Dave,
People who actually are capable of “thinking” here do sometimes agree! But maybe for very different reasons :D
But I DO appreciate those that take the time to “think” here no mater what their perspective is.
We all have our angles, and we all take our shots when we can. But let us all hope in the end that the best course is taken!
Of course, ‘you’ are wrong 99% of the time :D But even I have to respect “very deeply” the 1% of the time your are right :|
In the end, all of us can only hope that the best course is followed.
SteveMarch 27th, 2008 - 2:25 am
The country as seen by the Affirmative Action Candidate Obama & Co. A wife that appears to dislike the US, a preacher that Damns America, what is going on with these very RACIST people? Obama was the candidate that was to TRANSCEND race…he has failed miserably and the more that we hear from Obama & company the more we see a hateful group. Just please shut up if you can not say something good about my country. Show a little pride in the country that has given YOU and your wife SOOO much.

Jane DMarch 27th, 2008 - 3:01 am
How old are some of you posting this thought process on this website. Have any of you hear of JIM CROW or the Reconstruction. Some you guys need to go to read a book on history or go to Washington DC to the Library of congress. Travel America check out some of the museums, go to the King Memorial in Atlanta. I have been in gas stations in the south in the early 70’s that folks would not serve a northerner black or white. The Europeans thinks we are ignorant to history. I lived in Germany several years by the way of the military and had great conversation with different nationality it was enlighting of what they thought of America. They love us and disliked us in the same breath. You guys need to get off the internet and read and stop watching HOLLYWOOD for your history.
SimonMarch 27th, 2008 - 3:21 am
Did you people even listen to Barack’s speech? Seriously, some of you make me embarrassed to be white. The Reverend’s views don’t represent Barack’s. My Pastor condemns homosexuality and abortion. I believe in same sex unions, I have a sister who is gay and another sister who was date raped, impregnated and opted to have an abortion. I disagree strongly with my Pastor’s views and I’ve told him that. I still belong to the church and have turned to him for guidance when things weren’t going my way. Barack’s admiration for Rev. Wright has more to do with his inspiration and motivation than his social and political beliefs. Get over it people! And was there any mistruth in the ‘typical white person’ comment? He was just saying that it’s not out of the ordinary for a white person to lock their car door when driving or parking in a black neighborhood. I’m sorry if his accurate observations are too real for most of you to handle and you’d rather harp on Rev. Wright’s commentary or Michelle Obama saying that America doesn’t always behave fairly and that has hurt us as a country. I know, it’s much easier to listen to your right wing conservative talk radio people and repeat their views verbatim. You know, let’s overlook the fact that Barack is half white and half black – he’s obviously narrow minded and racist, right? Let’s just blindly salute the flag and oppose anyone who challenges us or speaks to us about issues like race like we’re adults. Go put some Toby Keith in the stereo, get in our Ford truck with the Dale Ernhardt stickers, hunt some deer and be blissfully ignorant! Yee-Haw!

Mrs. Hussein Obama take care of the log in your eye before you take care of the mote in America’s.

Michelle was speaking a little more “black” to that audience. She is very articulate but she sure changes her voice to appear more black to that audience…hum…
Mad MaxMarch 27th, 2008 - 5:34 am
Jane D excellent commentary.
I think you hit the nail on the head. I think there are a lot of simple minded, ignorant people (of all races) in this country that just do not want to know the truth or are engulfed in their own fears and prejudices. I love to travel and see the world and it is sometimes embarrassing to talk to folks from other countries who think that all Americans are war-mongering, racists, or voted for Bush. And yes Europeans know that most Americans are ignorant about our own history, not to mention theirs.
I think that there is a strong need for more unbiased American history, as well as world culture and foreign language study to be taught in this country. Not to mention technical, scientific, and engineering training …. It is sad.
Bottom-line is that most of the people that react violently to Barack or his wife as you see in many of these posting will never change, will never see the light. They will continue spewing their dogma and hatred and smear and fear.
We have come a long way but have a long way to go.
RoverMarch 27th, 2008 - 7:36 am

Ummm, I thought she was highly educated? It’s hypocritical and demeaning to talk down to an audience. And the speech is pretty disorganized for such a bright person. Oh, and “what Fliwer said”. Good one.
So…. everybody should sit at one giant table which could seat an entire college campus. This rhetoric is poisonous, sure, but it’s also kindergarten-ish. Barack Obama is a talented guy, sorry Ms. Ferraro, but it seems like Michelle’s success is most likely attributable to affirmative action.
garuMay 6th, 2008 - 10:05 pm
Michelle Obama is a yale / harvard anti white liberal.
White Americans, you should be scared, very scared if Barack Obama is elected president.
Redistribution of wealth, higher taxes, etc..etc..
Blacks self-segregate. They don’t want whites sitting at their table. Remember, it’s a black thang. Black racism is more prevalent than white racism.
