Cheney’s Surprise Trip to Iraq All About the Oil Fields

From the related New York Times link: According to a pool report of comments made by a senior administration official who was flying with Mr. Cheney, the vice president plans, among other things, to push Iraqi officials to pass petroleum legislation that would help bring international oil companies to Iraq.

I’ll bet he was at the oil fields. That’s what this war is all about. Controlled interest.

Every drop of oil shipped to the U.S. from the Middle East was willingly sold by the OPEC nations and paid for in full. I don’t have a problem with Cheney’s efforts to secure this arrangement. Long term, it’s a win-win. The OPEC nations would rather have the revenue from sales of petroleum products to the U.S. than not have it.

But the libs said we were going to steal all that Iraq oil. What happened?

Larse,

Last I checked, 11 of the 18 Iraqi Provinces have been turned over to Iraqi control. Eventually we’ll get it down to a much smaller military presence and it won’t cost $700 million per day forever. If we don’t keep a lid on Al Qaeda, it costs a lot more. We can either defeat them or surrender to them. “That old guy” on the “polital photo op” wants to defeat them. Although they won’t come out and say it, Sens. Obama and Clinton are inclined to surrender. Take your pick, I’ve made mine.

Damn right…bring in the oil and it is about time.

Larse   March 17th, 2008 - 10:33 pm

Iraq on a good day should produce 2.5M barrels per day or about 68 million gallons of gasoline/diesel fuel per day. The Iraq war costs about 700 million dollars per day. So if they give us the oil for free, it comes to over $10 per gallon of gas.

Do you see the problem…

Cheney and that old guy are over there right now, but that is just for political photo op stuff…
