I love how serious the reporter was, as if this was real news. I agree with Mr Hyde, things must be really slow there.

Come on people, lighten up. The kids weren’t upset by the racoon being striped (this time by paint) they probably were laughing their tail off, oh wait, that was the other animal in the story.

I thought the same thing, “not my job.”

Nothing new… we live in a “USA Of the offended.” Everyone is out to find something to moan and complain about to get it into the news or whatever. Beleive we have other serious things going on in the country then a dead raccoon. Get real people!!

This same thing happened to a squashed opossum in Georgia. We had a great laugh upon seeing the picture in the paper.

While I have little sympathy for the offended in this case, this is typical of how government workers in Illinois do their job. If they can’t be bothered to paint a line down the road correctly, imagine what else they can’t be bothered to do!

Who cares? I care, because this is hilarious! The teenager in me chuckles. How can these people be upset? Those types are always looking for something to complain about I guess.

Well, that is 1 minute and 7 seconds of my life completely wasted. I should have known, shame on me.

The citizens are acting as if the road crew killed and maimed the animals themselves…and NO it is not the job of the line painters at the Dept of Transportation to pick up road kill. If the citizens saw these dead animals days before why didn’t they call the city to have them removed or grow some civic pride and move the animals off to the side on their own?

Well, its good to note as the first lady did, that the dead racoon was lying there dead. I would hate to think of the poor dead racoon lying there alive.

It looks like the women complaining are all overweight Yankee slobs who probably sit on their couch, watch Springer all day, and wait for their welfare checks to arrive. They sit on their porch and complain about a dead animal on the road for 2 days, as if it is the governments job to wipe their @$$ or something. Sure, we pay people to do this, but when they aren’t around, will it hurt these lard butts to kick the animal to the side of the road when they go to get their welfare check out of the mailbox???

The driver who ran over this innocent raccoon should be tracked down and locked up for 5-10 years for violating this raccoons civil rights!! The road crew should be suspended without pay and made to undergo sensitivity training!! Those poor children who had to see that raccoon laying in the road should be provided with grief counselors for their trouble!! A monument of a giant raccoon should be erected with a dedication made by the president to commemorate this awful event in American history!!

Geez, hey – who cares? It might be important if the ‘coon was tortured, then painted, but he looks pretty laid-back there in the middle of the road. Besides, ‘coons have no pride, they eat out of garbage cans and their only predator is a moving car.

So is their complaint that the stripe now has a blemish, or that a dead animal got painted (Hint: the dead animal didn’t care). And people wonder where the next Geraldo is going to come from…

I work for a large painting company and all most all road painting is subcontracted. Therefore, I could give 2 poops how many animals I paint over. Your right it’s not my job, just like it’s not the old fat lady’s job or hilery clinton’s job. I’m not lazy, I’m just not paid to pick up road kill. As they say in the industry “that’s an extra”

The Lemont CSI team needs to be dispatched to check if the paint on the raccoon matches the paint on the road. What if somebody planted the raccoon after the stripes were painted?

The real tragedy of this story is that Richard Daley’s police departmant wasn’t there to ticket the raccoon for illegal parking. For Shame!

If safety is the issue here .. then yes, they should not stripe over roadkill. But these guys are paid to paint lines, not pick up roadkill.

If the residents are simply concerned about carelessness about a dead animal — then they are just as much to blame for not clearing the road themselves as the stripers are.

To think, someone actually got so worked up over this matter that they’d call a news station to report on it. Those people got pretty worked up over a petty matter. I wonder what would happen if the reported reported on a serious issue. Would the interviewed people have the same zeal to complain about significant topics?

you people are all so insensitive. i’m sure the raccoon had relatives living in the area. maybe a mom or dad, or kids. the highways should all be closed any place a poor creature might cross. they don’t have cell phones. so they can’t call 911 in an emergency. and i assume getting squashed would be an emergency.

I believe real and true news programs can show both types of news, that of what is really happening overseas, and that of an animal being run over by a government Transportation truck. The two situations are not mutually exclusive. Given our tax dollars pay for our airwaves to be allocated to these news bozos, therein lies the issue. I want to see more than one type of photo supplied to these “news” stations.

There is nothing new about this. I saw a better one 6 years ago, that had the caption “Not My Job”. Hey, they just paint lines. They are not paid to remove roadkill. It is not in their union contract.

Actually this Raccoon was being slow cooked in the sun. The ladies main complaint was that the paint made it inedible.

And this just in… A dead cat has been spotted along the same stretch of road about 3/4 of a mile away from where the now infamous Raccoon Violation took place and… wait… This is SHOCKING! A police car just drove riht on past the dearly depoarted feline’s corpse without so much as even slowing down in respect! Oh, the humanity!
