The problem is that tasers are not safe for every situation and are not being used for their intended purpose. When taser and these other (ahem) “non-lethal” weapons were said to be useful, because they gave officers a chance to disable people without shooting them – ie, we otherwise would have shoot this person, but now we can non-lethally disable him or her.

Sounds good – but in that case, tasers should only be used in very serious situations where shooting would be the only other option. So many of these cops think tasers are toys, and can be used anytime for any reason.

Even if the initial use of the taser wa appropriate here, there was clearly no need to taser her like 12 times over several minutes.

Im against tasers, period. They have killed too many americans. This woman CALLED the police for help and they killed her.

Well, where were the family members during all this. She was in the middle of the road in a wheel chair, yet no one helped her. Could it be that they were scared to approach her.

What planet are we on? Who cares who may have been afraid of this woman. An elderly woman in a wheelchair can’t do much harm to these idiots. How dare them even think about using a taser on her. They should have murder charges filed against them and tasers need to be outlawed. Obviously they are being misused. Next thing you know they will be tasering uncontrollable toddlers.

Before policemen are given a taser to use, they should be instructed on the proper use of this weapon. In the case of the 4 or 5 officers that tasered the Boston college student, it would be GOOD to #1. Rough up those officers just like they did to that young man. #2 taser them, just like they did to him. They then would not be so quick to play with their new toy at the expense of an innocent human being. Is it against the law to ask questions? After being roughly handled by five gung-ho cops, I would’nt be surprised if they injured his spine.

Why not call it suicide by cop. Who cares if she was in a wheel chair. She was mentally ill and armed with 2 knives and a hammer. The previous posters on this page sound like left wing nuts.

The nice thing about tasers is that they can take these psycho nuts off the street (literally) with minimal danger to nearby people. If they shot her 50 times with hand guns or used automatic assault rifles, the danger to the sounding citizens would have been extreme. There was also no damage to the chair, street, or surrounding property. Not even any blood splashing all around.

If they miss and hit another officer there is little harm done (only shock him once though).

The police were cleared in this case so just don’t worry your little heads about brutality or anything. If I saw this knife wielding nut outside my house, I would probably shoot her or run here down with the car. There could have been (probably were) kids nearby!

Tasers could be made to stun, stun hard, or kill outright. Right now the police have to re-shock them like 20 times to get a kill. Perhaps the taser would be a better weapon for police to carry if it could be selectively made far more lethal.

If you have a kid yelling at a Kerry meeting a light stun will do. If you have a republican with a knife, set it to incinerate!!
