Stupid story. What the lady needs to do is stop figuring out ways to sue companys so that she can get paid.

KeepinItReal24/7   March 4th, 2008 - 6:15 pm

You must be white huh truth?

Dave   March 4th, 2008 - 6:45 pm

What does that have to do with anything keepitreal24/7? So the lady was shocked, bfd. I guess a 6.2 million dollar settlement will ease her pain. Take the word off the test and move on.

Joe   March 4th, 2008 - 7:15 pm

Wow, portraits of racial sensitivity, all of you!

Jim   March 4th, 2008 - 7:22 pm

This story is grossly misleading it makes it seem like the company created the passage for the woman to type. However, it is actually from the Schulers books, The Three Partners by Bret Harte,

Paragraph as follows except for my censoring of “foul language”

“I was thinking,” he began in apologetic explanation, “how mighty queer it was that while we were working like nigres on grub wages, without the ghost of a chance of making a strike, how we used to sit here, night after night, and flapdoodle and speculate about what we’d do if we ever DID make one; and now, Great Scott! that we HAVE made it, and are just wallowing in gold, here we are sitting as glum and silent as if we’d had a washout! Why, Lord! I remember one night–not so long ago, either–that you two quarreled over the swell hotel you were going to stop at in ‘Frisco, and whether you wouldn’t strike straight out for London and Rome and Paris, or go away to Japan and China and round by India and the Red Sea.”

mouthbreather   March 4th, 2008 - 7:26 pm

There’s a reason my name is mouthbreather.
It was bestowed upon me by an angry spiting liberal. He described himself perfectly to me by namin’ me.

I wonder if the two American African gentlemen who commented on this issue would have a problem is Mr. Snoop Dog or Fifty Cents Would have written the test?

And what exactly does Ebonics have to do with it?

DTE   March 4th, 2008 - 7:34 pm

This woman has no idea that the book passage is over 100 years old.
Why doesn’t she rage about the ‘n-word’ being used CURRENTLY in lyrics?
How sad that she didn’t recognize literature from America’s past.
She’d probably have a heart-attack if she typed some Twain passages….

Hillary Forever   March 4th, 2008 - 8:17 pm

I am just so sick of blacks. And whiny white people who have a pitty party for these “victims”. So blacks are killing blacks everyday, but we are going to worry about some typing software? Oh, that’s because white people created it. Excuse me, I’ve got to go puke now.

grik   March 5th, 2008 - 12:23 am

Anytime a simple little story like this comes out ….watch the defensive white people get it all off their chests. Racism is invisible to white people …. count your blessings.

Mike   March 5th, 2008 - 1:07 am

“It’s the “N” word…” Wow, it is a pretty sad thing that we have sunk so low as to have news anchors (or anybody else) actually have to make statements like that instead of being “racist’ enough to actually say the word that offends some of the black community. I’m not talking about calling a living person one, I’m talking about literature that is a century old. As it happens, a great many of those that claim to be offended, use the word without any problem when referring to their homeboys, every day. It’s only racist, if a honky says it, right?

The word is no more racist than ‘redneck’ or ‘hillbilly’ but do you think the anchors would refer to them as the ‘R’ word or the ‘H’ word?

E390   March 5th, 2008 - 1:25 am

Here comes the lawyers and the big payoff. I bet she has no problem with the word nigger when she is playing her rap cd’s. America will collapse because of the left and all the pc crap from the radical muslims to Spanish first to the use of the “N” word. They (corp America) still uses the word cracker on packaging. I am offended by all these people muslims, blacks, gay and lesbian, baby murders (pro abortion), the list goes on. But me being offended is just plain old racist.

1010TRAVIS   March 5th, 2008 - 2:27 am

IT AMAZES ME THAT THE LOCAL NEWS THAT BROUGHT THIS STORY, CAN’T FIGURE OUT WHY IT TOOK THREE YEARS FOR SOMEONE TO BRING THIS TO THE MEDIAS ATTENTION. THE REASON IS, THAT WE AFRICAN-AMERICANS, AREN’T REALLY CONCERNED ABOUT IMPROVING OUR TYPING. THIS, I PROMISE YOU, IS THE FIRST(AFRICAN AMERICAN)TO SEE THIS. EVEN OUR WOUNDERFUL LEADERS HAVE’NT BEEN ABLE TO CATCH THIS. I GUESS THEIR STILL WORKING ON EBONICS. (NOT A TYPING PROGRAM THAT YET).

Jill   March 5th, 2008 - 3:16 am

I’ll tell you why no one else discovered this in the software…because no one else really used that POS software. It’s the kind of thing people buy on impulse and then throw in the back of their closet for “someday”. I have some typing software rotting somewhere in my closet, too.

I am surprised that the company didn’t at least send an apology, which would have been the classy move. But yes, I think she’s trolling for a settlement.

mouthbreather   March 5th, 2008 - 3:36 am

It’s obvious the text came from an old novel or something.
The term was used more prevalently back then. It’s a part of our American culture.

Several years ago my wife had to correct great grandma for the use of the N-word. Her response was “So what do they call themselves these days? First it was colored then it was Afro-American then it was Blacks… we used to call them N—ers” My wife said “they like to be referred to as or African Americans” Great Grammas response?

For how long!

She really was a sweet ol’ broad and didn’t have a racist bone in her body!

She was ignorant that’s all!

HiddenAgenda   March 5th, 2008 - 4:12 am

The really crazy thing is that this made the News. Maybe there is a hidden agenda, like trying to make racism appear larger than it is. This was just a computer glitch, nothing more.

Hillary Forever   March 5th, 2008 - 4:13 am

The author of the book is Bret Harte. He died in 1902. Why don’t you liberal democrats dig him up and put him on trial for hate crimes?

JimBo   March 5th, 2008 - 4:48 am

Another Victocrat.

Red-Necked Cracker   March 5th, 2008 - 4:50 am

How can this woman go on living? What will become of African Americans? How can African Americans succeed when they must endure horrors such as this?

I now understand why welfare is so important. The African American people are so sensitive and weak that they must be cared for.

I am so glad the Democrat Party exists. They’ve served the African American community so well over the years.

Thank you media for letting me know just how weak African Americans are.

Thank you Democrat Party for taking the burden of life off of African Americans. You’ve served them so well.

Clearly African Americans are making a lot of progress as a race. Why…they can now admit they are terrorized by words!

It seems like it was only yesterday that Ross Perot nearly drove African Americans off the edge by referring to them as “You people”.

Maybe soon they can let us know that….oh I don’t know….a stiff breeze….or maybe a raised eyebrow makes them tremble.

Come on people!! Grow up.

Nate K   March 5th, 2008 - 5:59 am

This is a non-issue. If they had created typing excercises and the n word was on it, there would definetly be a large lapse of judgement, but this is a very early 20th century book, with langauge and scenerios during a time much different from ours. Just Give them a break and accept their apology….why is this news, i ask you?

Hickok   March 5th, 2008 - 6:15 am

Wah, wah, wah, wah, wah !!! She said she was hit by a car last year. How much of a moron do you have to be, to be hit as a pedestrian, by a car? I’d hate to see the damage to that vehicle given that freakin caboose she done got. She wants an apology. For what? I bet her 16 illigitmate kids use that word all the time. Hang in there folks, Barack Hussein is coming to the rescue, and dignified women such as her will never suffer such indignities, and he will reach across the racial divide to bring us all together.

angrygoy   March 5th, 2008 - 7:27 am

So what is the big deal? Blacks call each other that word all the time!

skeptical   March 5th, 2008 - 8:36 am

She gets hit by a car, spends years recovering and just happens to have no job. Sounds suspicious to me to begin with. Now she happens to find this and she wants a…. uh…. response (settlement on a frivilous lawsuite). Seems like she pulled some scam to remain unemployed for months and now is looking for a way to extend her vacation. Get a job and work for your money!!!!

Democratic Presidential Nominee has adopted a new campaign theme song.

Inspired by the rags-to-riches story of internet sensation Tay Zonday, recently featured on an episode of Maury, Barack Obama has jumped on the “Zonday Express” adopting Zonday’s “Chocolate Rain” as his official song.

An Obama staffer applauded this move saying, “Yes, I think I hear the drops on my roof. What could it be? Ah yes, some Chocolate Rain.”

The proper thing would have been to return all of them to Africa after the Emancipation Proclimation with the new skills they were taught in the New World so that they could have returned to their homeland and lived without this type of horrible experience. This would have also reduced violent crime in the New World by 25-30%. An all around “win-win” proposal.

Funny, 18th century book, 18th century words.
I just can’t seem to find the 18th century computer program. Oh that right, this lady found it and put it on her 18th century computer. Who was the 18th century editor for that programing company?

JAHciple   April 23rd, 2008 - 8:49 pm

The funny thing is I used to work for the p.o.s. software company as quality assurance. hahahhaa.
