I can think of one more thing Obama has done – he lead the fight against a bill in the Illinois legislature that would’ve required hospitals to provide the same routine care to the victims of botched abortions as they provide to any other patient.
At the time Obama expressed concern that such a law might cause people to regard the unborn baby as a human being with rights. Can’t have that, can we!
What she does not realize is that, it does not matter if she has more accomplishments, more experienced (35 years, right?), or Obama gives a better speech, people don’t want to vote for her! More painful than that, however, is the hurt caused by this Administration and others who blithely accused those of us who questioned the strategic value of invading Iraq as unpatriotic.
With that in mind, when Chris Matthews asks what has Obama done–my first answer is that he publicly stood up to those attacks when Senator Clinton publicly sat down–and in my book, that is an accomplishment far more meaningful than a cheap political shot that one would expect from Bill O’Reilly.

She has held office for only 2-3 years longer than Obama. Sponsoring a bill isn’t an accomplishment. Look at HR 25 (the FairTax bill), which has TONS of sponsors! Do they ALL get to say they wrote it? Plus, that bill has stalled and hasn’t even come up for a vote. So the “sponsors” have accomplished jack squat. Much like Barack Obama.

3. She chose Janet Reno after Baird and Wood.
4. She pushed Lani Guanier..a Black Woman..great courage shown. Forget Guanier’s radicalism for a moment
5. She got her close friends and partners into the Government in the best tradition of Jackson’s “spoils” system. (Hubbell, Vince Foster, William Kennedy: prison, suicide, resignation)
Also, she pressed the firing of the whole “Liason Office,” which had been serving the Executive Branch for over 30 years… in order to get her buddies, the Thomasons, into the money stream
6. I believe any record set for misuse of FBI files by LBJ or Nixon was surpassed by the use of Craig Livingstone to get dirt on “enemies” of the Clintons. Was it 800 files? No? 900? wow. Livingstone was in the White House because of Her.

11. She published “It Takes A Village.” Anyone reading it understands her Economic philosphy. Nobody has more clearly stated their radicalism. Others are currently cowards by comparison by having no record at all.
12. She was probably a huge influence in the pardoning of the FALN killers and the “New Square Hassidim” in order to win the votes of those two groups in her future political dreams.
13. She cleared her brothers’ associates with her husbands pardon power. (I assume she pushed for this.)
14. She “borrowed” lots of White House furniture. This is a very trashy act and her ability to make it go away is astounding and impressive.
15. She uses the “Woman Card” and tears with far more skill than Jesse Jackson uses the “Race Card.”
16. She influenced her husband to seal all records of their conduct and papers in the National Archives until 2012 so that the information in them will not cloud the minds of voters. This seal includes her calendars and appointments and correspondence. This is an amazing achievement.
17. She has had a record almost as effervescent as Senator Obama. This is also an amazing feat.
18. She won election to the Senate from a State that she had never lived in. Think about this. This is a gigantic achievement. This is the same State whose cabbies cannot be fooled and whose air is breathed by the likes of cynics like David Letterman.
I think She has an amazingly impressive record to run on. I think it is a far more clear record than Obama gives us.
BTW what do any of you think about that bill Obama sponsered about a .07% UN tax to ‘end global poverty’. Ya know I’m all for ending global poverty, but we got people in this country needing help first!
Observing Bill Clinton’s almost daily petulant temper tantrums when an audience member expresses support for the Obama candidacy suggests that Slick is very close to loosing it. The “serial groper” is unable to accept the fact that he’s trying to peddle a defective product; i.e. Hillary. Muricio – The answer to your first post is the Fair Tax (HR 25), the same one Crush Liberalism talks about. ONe thing about it that is glossed over is that it would be the greatest transfer of power to the US people ever enacted. As a consumtion tax w/ a pre-bate, the Fair Tax would allow you to quit funding any policy by simply saving your own money. No more with holding, no more IRS, and no more punishing achievement. As for the special interest groups and lobbyists, they would be greatly reduced because the incentive to lobby on the basis of tax advantages would be nullified. I know I sound like an advertisement, but I am not, just someone who believes in a good idea.
As for the Global Poverty Act: Talk about moving to global gov’t, this thing would be a disaster. It would basically give the UN police and tax power over every country in the world. If we (USA) think our government is corrupt……

It’s ALWAYS “the most important election of our lifetime”. They bring up the fact that they are the best candidate to be the Commander-in-Chief. While campaigning, Hillary thinks the military is the most crucial element to be in charge of; however, I’ve NEVER heard her (or Bill) encourage anyone to serve in the Armed Forces.
Do they think the military should only be served by lower class citizens? For once, I would like to hear the Clintons stress military service for ALL classes of society.
Why do the Clintons always talk about the military being all important ONLY during the campaigns?
I think Hillary understands that she’s not well liked; however, when she’s been focused on the presidency since the age of 19, don’t think she’s going to go away quietly.

One ill-briefed State Senator doesn’t prove anything. Here’s a list of some of Obama’s accomplishments in the Senate:
-Obama passed legislation with Republican Senator Jim Talent to give gas stations a tax credit for installing E85 ethanol refueling pumps. The tax credit covers 30 percent of the costs of switching one or more traditional petroleum pumps to E85, which is an 85 percent ethanol/15 percent gasoline blend.
-After a number of inmates on death row were found innocent, Senator Obama worked with law enforcement officials to require the videotaping of interrogations and confessions in all capital cases.
-His first law was passed with Republican Tom Coburn, a measure to rebuild trust in government by allowing every American to go online and see how and where every dime of their tax dollars is spent.
-Obama created the Illinois Earned Income Tax Credit for low-income working families in 2000 and successfully sponsored a measure to make the credit permanent in 2003. The law offered about $105 million in tax relief over three years.
-Obama joined forces with former U.S. Sen. Paul Simon (D-IL) to pass the toughest campaign finance law in Illinois history. The legislation banned the personal use of campaign money by Illinois legislators and banned gifts from lobbyists. Before the law was passed, one organization ranked Illinois worst among 50 states for its campaign finance regulations.
-As a member of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, Senator Obama has fought to help Illinois veterans get the disability pay they were promised, while working to prepare the VA for the return of the thousands of veterans who will need care after Iraq and Afghanistan.
-He traveled to Russia with Republican Dick Lugar to begin a new generation of non-proliferation efforts designed to find and secure deadly weapons around the world.
-Obama has been a leading advocate for protecting the right to vote, helping to reauthorize the Voting Rights Act and leading the opposition against discriminatory barriers to voting.
- In the U.S. Senate, Obama introduced the STOP FRAUD Act to increase penalties for mortgage fraud and provide more protections for low-income homebuyers, well before the current subprime crisis began.
-Obama sponsored legislation to combat predatory payday loans, and he also was credited with lobbied the state to more closely regulate some of the most egregious predatory lending practices.
-Barack Obama introduced the Patriot Employer Act of 2007 to provide a tax credit to companies that maintain or increase the number of full-time workers in America relative to those outside the US; maintain their corporate headquarters in America; pay decent wages; prepare workers for retirement; provide health insurance; and support employees who serve in the military.
-Obama worked to pass a number of laws in Illinois and Washington to improve the health of women. His accomplishments include creating a task force on cervical cancer, providing greater access to breast and cervical cancer screenings, and helping improve prenatal and premature birth services.
-Obama has introduced and helped pass bipartisan legislation to limit the abuse of no-bid federal contracts.
-Obama and Senator Feingold (D-WI) took on both parties and proposed ethics legislation that was described as the “gold standard†for reform. It was because of their leadership that ending subsidized corporate jet travel, mandating disclosure of lobbyists’ bundling of contributions, and enacting strong new restrictions of lobbyist-sponsored trips became part of the final ethics bill that was signed into law.
After having watched this campaign develop I think it comes down to weighing how much you want the same old crap that has driven this country down the past 40 years or do you want to take a chance on some change. From what I can tell, Obama has the best shot at getting something accomplished. Hillary will drive the country farther apart and probably won’t even beat McCain.
