Sorry for not being precisely related to this subject, but public media is nothing but a left-wing media outlet, that hates everything about American values.

The other day I heard on public radio someone saying the US helped depose the government of Salvador Allende in Chile, who “represented everything America stood for”, to put in place a government against those same values.

Salvador Allende is repeatedly painted in the America media as a martir, when in fact he worked agressively towards the installation of a comunist dictatorship in Chile, and helped promoted guerrillas throughout South America, under the guidance from Cuba.

Human rights violations, corruption and guerrilla warfare, that’s the type of stuff that the liberal media hides from the public, actively trying to brainwash the public’s opinion in favor of the “socialist revolution”.

That’s the type of garbage that our taxes pay for.

Without salaries such as Moyers’, maybe more penguins, Austin City Limits, arts programs, et. al.–the more relevant stuff in our lives–programming might be able to survive on the bids made on Big Bird coffee mugs and artwork contributed by artists who can’t sell the paintings on the open market.

It is because of “journalists” such as Bill Moyers that the traditional media outlets have no credibility remaining. Their only outlets are PBS forums where ratings do not matter- only one’s agenda. Karl Rove did not “trick” anyone into voting for Bush. Every one of the comments that I have read so far have been negative towards Bill. Yet…not a single argument addressed any of the points that Mr Moyers was making.

Bill Moyers is a true investigative journalist.

Every..single..program.. in which he plays a roll has an “open book” policy in terms of where their information, and funding, comes from.

This alone means that he, and PBS for that matter, are “accountable” for what they do. Their laundry is on the table for all to pick through.

So I suggest this….

Because Bill Moyers is someone who is accountable for what he says and does, suggest to me, that given the choice between Bill and Karl, Bill is more credible than Karl.

this means that…at least to some degree…when Bill Moyers speaks, it reflects how things really happened.

Karl Rove is a bad person. He helped to weaken the vital structures that support our democracy. Karl Rove helped in creating and supporting policy that condones torture and unilateralism. Karl Rove is a war criminal because “millions” of civilians have died(John Hopkins University)in the Iraq as a direct result of our armed occupation.

I can’t speak for any others – they can do that for themselves just fine, but I write only under my own online handle. If you cannot tell the difference among the various writers here, then how can anyone trust you can distinguish between Mr. Rove and Mr. Moyers?

Moyers is such a liberal hypocrite. He was employed in the Johnson administration in some type of media role. It may have been press secretary. I’m not sure. Anyway, LBJ lied us into war in Vietnam (remember the Gulf of Tonkin incident). He also started the social programs that could result in bankrupting the country, such as medicare, medicaid, the war on poverty, etc. Also, LBJ was involved in more that his fair share of scandals. His stolen Senate election, the 1960 presidential election where the dead and buried in Texas voted for Kennedy/Johnson, Billie Sol Estes, etc., etc. What a pompous ass.

Radical, I agree with you that no one on here is arguing with what Moyers said. But that is the right wing tactic of Dubya. Go after the messenger, not the message. However, Moyers isn’t exactly a saint.

OK then Paul, make some suggestions that would help people to focus on building a new party, since it appears that we agree that neither the Democrat or Republican politicians are getting the job done, and seem to be beholden to the special interests (not to mention MoveOn.org).

How about starting with a clean sweep out of everyone in Congress – start over with citizen legislators, and hold a public burning of the “Senate Rules”. Sen. Byrd won’t like it a bit, and his dog will doubtlessly get mentioned by him as he labors in vain to find the words (and the breath) to denounce the new Congress.

We can start with 2008. Target the worst legislators from both parties for defeat. It can be done, but it takes a lot of work. Are you ready for that?

Julie, I truly believe it is a religious divide that is most serious in this country, in Europe and most other place on earth.
It is a divide between those people of faith (who believe in a God) and those who do not. Those who do, engage in acts of charity through their church, temple or mosque; those who do not substitute government as the charity giver.
Those who believe in a God also believe in a moral code (most such codes are very similar in content) as guiding principles of living life; those who do not believe in a God are without such an anchor, and indulge themselves in situational ethics, itself an indulgence without guidelines or rules of living. Basically speaking, situational ethics means you are guilty only if you get caught. By comparison a believer in a God will stop at a red signal at 2 AM, while a nonbeliever will be more likely to run the light if no one is watching.
We define ourselves by our acts. Those who believe are not all rigid about others, but it is true that some are judgmental and are not shy about telling others what they think. Judgmentalism is also to be found among the nonbelievers, but the bitterest of bile is found among those who are atheists who find religion and its moral code(s) to be antithetical to their own version of socialism, which is the most judgmental of all “isms”.

When the republicans are all gone, we will be able to worry about details. But Iraq, and all the other giant messes this administration has started are far too destructive to America to play with the kid gloves the Democrats used to be so famous for. The republicans have just “used” terrorism, Iraq, immigration… For purely political and criminal gain. And Carl Rove is the dog right there in the middle of it. The Russians are flying planes again… Heckofa job Condi… I assume the republicans see this as an opportunity to by war plane stock and will instruct their conservative “followers” to pressure congress into buying aircraft now… Just like republicans persecute immigrants and say they are taking jobs while spending $1,000,000,000,000 dollars in tax money in Iraq to help them politically.

Nuclear war will take care of the republicans along with everyone else, but it seems a terrible price to pay so a few political criminals can live it up till then. It is sad that about 25% of Americans are so incredibly ignorant that they think Bill Moyers is the enemy…

Shark, I really doubt that Bill Moyers would join a party of consensus, because he is about name calling and dividing. He would not be welcome in such a party. You have self-identified as an “arch liberal” and that, and it’s just a guess, would take you to the left extreme, unless you are a “classical liberal” of the Adalai Stevenson model, whose “progressivism” was tempered not by ideology but by an eye to what was affordable and possible.
I would not want to put labels on anyone joining such a consensus party, because doing so only divides – yet again – and that is antithetical to the purposes of such a party. There can be a middle way, founded (as I would see it) on conservative fiscal policy (and I have yet to see any administration so based) and yet providing help to those who truly need it, while supporting Social Security and offering the younger generation (I think you might qualify) a choice of routes to retirement that would give you the choice of financial plans, instead of the “one size fits all” model we now have.

I listen to a variety of talking heads while driving to and from work (total of 180 minutes a day – way too much, but it pays the mortgage. In the morning, I listen to NPR for an hour and Rush Limbaugh for 30 minutes (how’s that for balance?). O’Reilly and Coulter – they’re not for me, but I would never be for taking anyone off the air just because they say things I don’t want to listen to.

Oh, you mean Louisiana – sorry, I live in LA = Los Angeles, so that was my first impression, and I do have a FEMA story to tell you since I lived right on top of the Northridge earthquake ground zero, but it’s too long to tell it all. Suffice it to say that the “official” version of how strong that earthquake was (6.7) was chosen by our federal government back then because the fact was, that sucker was a 7.4. Now why would the government push the lower number on us? Because they would have to have paid compensation to owners and renters twice the amount they did give out! (By the way, that was in 1992 and you know who was president then, right?) The USGS was commanded to accept the 6.7 level so we who lost our houses wouldn’t know any difference, but the funny thing is, the people will eventually find out the truth!

When arrested in Vermont a few years ago for driving under the influence, his irate wail was along the lines of “Don’t you know who I am?!!!!” He later copped a plea, contritely, no doubt based on his lawyer’s advice. But on his own, drunk or sober, he is an arrogant buffoon.

Bill Moyers is contemptible. He is a typical liberal/socialist – hypocritical, lying, self-righteous and preachy. Liberalism truly is a mental disorder.
