Whatever happened to the concept of “treason”? This video clearly shows Berkeley citizens and “police officers” knowingly and shamefully subverting the laws of the United States and the will of the people. It’s time for us to turn the screws on Berkeley’s self-appointed cultural mullahs.

“U.S. Senator Wants to Revoke Funding From City of Berkeley, Calif., for Vote to Boot Marines”

It’s a start…

Once again showing why Berkeley is the craziest place in the country. These protesters should have been arrested for trespassing an assault for the way they blocked people from entering the building. If this had been an abortion clinic, there would be serious civil rights issues here.

And great job by the City Council and police. Either they ordered the police not to take any action, or else the police side with the protesters.

thedude   February 4th, 2008 - 3:38 pm

You can be damn sure if these ultra-leftys decided to do this to a Starbucks or McDonalds the cops wouldn’t hesitate cracking a few skulls under the order of their corporate masters.

Prodigal Tsun   February 4th, 2008 - 4:14 pm

Pogue, guy, regrettably I must agree with almost everything you said. I some parts I don’t think you were even strong enough. I am proud to have been educated in Berkeley thirty years ago, but I wouldn’t send any living organism into that city today, unless I wanted to gestate something angry, ugly and intolerant. But I think you have your streets wrong. Although most streets there are full of complete wastes of flesh, I think the infamous “filth pile” you refer to is on Telegraph Avenue at Channing Avenue, but generally gravitates anywhere between that intersection and the Center For Brainwashing that was once one of the best Universities in the world.

Paul   February 4th, 2008 - 5:10 pm

April 1, 1933: Nazis block entrances to Jewish-owned businesses; police remain “neutral”.

Barabus   February 4th, 2008 - 5:13 pm

Isn’t the Marine recruiting station federal property? Maybe a platoon of grunts out front may calm these bozo’s down a little. Fix bayonets.

bbinsf   February 4th, 2008 - 5:16 pm

Notice that these are Socialist Oldfarts from the 60’s. I love it when the young recruit pushes his way in and forces the pink guy out the door.

Riccardo Boehm   February 4th, 2008 - 5:17 pm

The Marines should set up skirmish lines to provide protective fire, They should also string razor wire and emplace sand bags around the recruiting office. They should park a Marine humvee nearby and tell potential recruits to go to the vehicle to get a Marine escort through enemy lines to and from the recruiting station. The Marines should wear combat gear just in case and be armed with tasers. They might also choose to park a light tank in the space reserved for code pink whether the traitors’ vehicle is there or not. The Berkeley Police can issue a parking ticket, if they want.

libsukbad   February 4th, 2008 - 5:20 pm

Hey OBL, need a hideout guaranteed to be more secure than the Pakistan, Afghanistan tribal border? Yup, Berkeley, and they will provide you with protection in the luxury you used to be accustomed to before the Saudis kicked you out, you can hang out at Starbucks openly and the pinkos probably won’t even let you pay.

Cyn   February 4th, 2008 - 5:25 pm

Talk about intolerance..these people deny the rest of us our rights. I am glad they are just a nuisance/minority. This kind of stuff really give California a bad name.

TOBetE   February 4th, 2008 - 5:26 pm

Dear Bet E

The Chez Panisse Foundation money is for an organic garden and kitchen program at the public schools.

Jenni Dipstick   February 4th, 2008 - 5:31 pm

Do these idiots think that they are actually accomplishing anything? I mean other than making themselves look like fools. As a police officer there is no I would have allowed them to block that entrance. They should have been at least cited for trespassing. I believe wrongful imprisonment charges could have been filed for not allowed the man to leave.

Paul B   February 4th, 2008 - 5:34 pm

Words evade me on how much these people disgust me.
“Enlightened Tolerance” is their cry but they prove again that they are intolerant, racist, and bigoted. I love their self labeling of “Progressive” and “Educated” because with my two PhDs and 20 publications – I am an idiot because I support the war, the military and put the teachings of my Lord above their lifestyle of indulgence and control of others.
It would be funny if they were not so pathetic.
I do hope they read this… because I’m going to – horror of horrors – pray for them!
;-D

Sparky   February 4th, 2008 - 5:34 pm

The cops didn’t give them the parking spot. The mayor and city council did…. the same people who voted to try to expel the Marines. The cops are probably under standing order not to intervene unless a physical confrontation occurs. THEY SHOULD BE INTERVENING, but my guess is they were ordered not to.

Most cops would be sympathetic towards the Marines than the pig-headed and misguided pinksters.

Mike   February 4th, 2008 - 5:43 pm

Unfortunately, I think we’ve all gotten sort of used to the outrageous antics of these leftist creeps. We’ve come to expect it. What really gets me is the attitude of this so called police officer. What a joke! This clown is an embarrassment to law enforcement everywhere. Do your @#%!ing job you coward! You’d be eaten alive in the ghetto if you ever had to do real police work. Do us all a favor and turn in your disgraced badge. “I’m trying to be neutral.” Get the &$#! out of here!

Manslagt   February 4th, 2008 - 5:53 pm

Loos as if the protestors were using force to prevent people from entering. I wonder if the police would have ignored things if a few Marines used force to knock out the little sissy blocking the door.

Jim   February 4th, 2008 - 5:54 pm

Isnt it funny how most of these people are against the war but will probably STILL vote democrat and not for Ron Paul?… hypocrates ALL OF THEM

2theSOcalpatriot   February 4th, 2008 - 5:56 pm

If one young teen was prevented from losing his life in a meaningless lie than it is worth it.

If one Iraqi or Iranian life gets saved, it’s worth it.

You ignorant fools are going to be the death of us all. See you in hell.

Linda   February 4th, 2008 - 5:56 pm

Federal Police should come in and arrest all the CODE PUKE homosexuals that are blocking ANY business. Their reall beef is not the war but “don’t ask, don’t tell”. I cannot wait until the big quake and all service members say HELL NO WE WON’T GO! when they need assistance. Everyone needs to contact their congressmen to pull any federal funds from the treasonous city of Berkerly!

Bill   February 4th, 2008 - 5:59 pm

So the Berkeley Nazis raise their ugly heads once again. Words cannot express my level of disgust and contempt for these creatures.

Linda   February 4th, 2008 - 6:05 pm

I mean…errr…I’m a clown!!! I’m a clown!!! Don’t listen to what I said earlier…I’m a dumb clown. Would you like a little baloon doggie?!!! Well?? Would you?!!!

James   February 4th, 2008 - 6:06 pm

My god can’t they get the fire Marshall on them or something? They’re blocking a fire exit if nothing else.

I really enjoyed harassing some baptist protesters who were protesting outside a Porno shop… I didn’t really feel like stopping and going into the store but when I saw them out on the sidewalk protesting I had to “thank them for showing me where the good stuff was”… That made them furious. I’d love to do the same to these wacko’s… just tell them thanks I never would have seen this place if you weren’t here and force my way inside.

I was fairly neutral on the issue of them protesting and the city trying to throw them out but that video made me furious. Arrest them all

Mike   February 4th, 2008 - 6:06 pm

If this was an abortion clinic those cops would be busting heads, of all the looniest places on earth Berkley wins hands down. What has this country come to? I see quite a few Asian Americans in the video, how many of our fathers generation of Marines gave their lives to free them from the War Lords of Japan.

GOD BLESS AND HELP THE UNITED STATES!!!!!!!!!!

CCB   February 4th, 2008 - 6:07 pm

Oh…and if you couldn’t tell by my previous comment. I often fight with girls… When I say silly things like, “KNOCKED OUT”, it means that once, I got knocked out by a girl. I’m pretty wussy and sometime I watch Hannah Montana…

SoCal Patriot   February 4th, 2008 - 6:07 pm

“If i were to walk into that recruiting station, i would first announce my intent on going in, and would also declare that the first person that touches me in way of obstructing my entrance to the recruiting center is getting KNOCKED OUT!!!!!!!!!”

Kind of makes me want to go visit the recruiters… :D

Jason   February 4th, 2008 - 6:09 pm

I wonder how “neutral” these police would be if Christian protesters were blocking the door of a business were murder takes place every day – an abortion clinic.

palindrome   February 4th, 2008 - 6:10 pm

Forget about how unpatriotic code pink is and focus on what They are actually doing. Will someone who is there, please, call the Federal Marshalls office and demand that They stop these people from violating Your civil rights. Think!!!! If You were doing the same thing at a public school, what would happen?

kaosktrl   February 4th, 2008 - 6:12 pm

Where is the close air support when you need it? The Marines should have AA12s to clear the rubbish off the sidewalk.

Ck   February 4th, 2008 - 6:17 pm

FIRST OF ALL, THE “NEUTRAL” POLICE ARE IN VIOLATION BY LETTING THE FREAKS DO THEIR PROTEST BLOCKING THE ENTRANCE/EXIT, ANYONE EVER HEARD OF A FIRE HAZARD TO BLOCK DOORS? THAT WOULD BE AN EXCUSE TO MOVE THE TRASH AWAY FROM THE DOOR SO PROUD AMERICANS CAN GET TO WORK OR SIGN UP IN THE USMC SO ORANGE SUIT WEARING VOMIT CAN SLEEP PEACEFUL AT NIGHT KNOWING ISLAMS WONT COME IN AND CUT THEIR THROATS. REMEMBER, THIS IS WHO OUR ARMED FORCES ARE TAKING BULLETS AND GETTING BLOWN UP FOR. THOSE PUKES SHOULD BE ASHAMED TO LIVE IN AMERICA.

Jarhead   February 4th, 2008 - 6:19 pm

HMMM! I would love to share my cure for this idiocy. I think the feds would knock on my door if I posted it. Those people would scatter like the cockroaches they are if I or someone else did it. Pull their funds and deny disaster relief. Let them come crawling to me asking for a handout. Hunting animals for food is starting to become harder than thinking of drawing down on one of these nutbags.

Mark   February 4th, 2008 - 6:20 pm

Berkeley is a disgrace, I will never spend so much as a penney in that city. Keep drinking the cool-aid Patriot. The only lies are the ones you’ve been reading on the daily KOmmunista and media matters. The marines should keep a big Humvee parked out in front.

Michael   February 4th, 2008 - 6:30 pm

Boycott ALL Berkeley businesses. Don’t go to Chez Panisse. Don’t buy from websites that have Berkeley mailing addresses. Sooner or later the few sane citizens of Berkeley will take notice and rein these vermin in. I also wonder if the police officer in the video couldn’t be charged with dereliction of duty. Sigh…

James   February 4th, 2008 - 6:48 pm

I get it now: If several people have to die here to make certain that one less solider dies in a war, it’s OK. But if several sodiers die in a War to keep US citizens from being killed, that’s not OK. But they are using the freedom the military is upholding to bad mouth the military. Just like the police are there to protect them, so they can act out knowing they have protection.

I have a headache. Being a Liberal is truly a mental illness.

Major Woody   February 4th, 2008 - 6:59 pm

What sort of Marine would be so cowardly, as to not proudly list his name, rank, and service dates? Joe Dirt is a lying filthy lib be-smirching the good name of the United States Marine Corps.
It’s time my brothers! Let the skull crackings begin!!
joe dirt…please give us your address. I’d like you to be first!

SKD   February 4th, 2008 - 7:01 pm

Another news story where there is really no clear-cut side to come down on. I’m neutral on this one myself because nobody in this entire incident holds the moral high-ground.

Bill   February 4th, 2008 - 7:14 pm

Last week, I was cited for JAYWALKING about a block from the recruitment center. It seems the Berkeley PD is cracking down on jaywalkers, but is powerless to enforce the law when a particular building is illegally blocked.

The Berkeley PD is staffed with excellent professionals. It’s a shame they have to serve the fools in the city council.

JaJa   February 4th, 2008 - 7:20 pm

“Try reading the Koran as well so you can learn what the “religion of peace” is really all about.”

Ever read the bible? Sheez, talk about violent and angry.

SKD   February 4th, 2008 - 7:34 pm

Nah, James, I’m more than wide awake enough to see BS from each side.

Geogib   February 4th, 2008 - 7:49 pm

So they stand there blocking the entrance, mute force is still force. There right to protest infringes upon the rights of others to pursue their own choices, whether to serve their country in uniform or simply to enter that building. The police department in remaining neutral should have at least maintained fair access to the building. I respect anyone’s right to protest, however, if someone had been assaulted as a result of their attempt to enter the building, how neutral would the police be then? I firmly believe the Marine Recruiting Center should stay there, and moreover, since the police choose not to enforce civil rights, the Marines should at least post their own guard at the door to uphold the Constitution and the freedoms of those choosing to enter the building.
HOO RAH!

kip   February 4th, 2008 - 7:51 pm

The Police in Berkeley are totally useless and a joke. All Berkeley Police officers should resign in protest! There are communities all over the S.F. area that support the rule of law and are hiring Police officers with experience.

Former Marine   February 4th, 2008 - 8:04 pm

This is a joke! I’m a former Marine and I don’t exactly agree with the war, but our country operates on an ALL VOLUNTEER SERVICE.

Does Berkley want us to return to the draft?

I think it’s ridiculous that these clowns were blocking access to the recruiting station. I’m quite surprised that the recruiter didn’t go outside and set these fools straight.

It’s one thing to protest, it’s another thing to block access to the recruiting station.

Zach Foreman   February 4th, 2008 - 8:41 pm

I wouldn’t be surprised if recruitment goes up rather than down. This is free publicity. I almost want to sign up after watching this. Do you really think that someone who wants to be a MARINE will not come back the next day? Or won’t try to force themselves through? This reminds me of the scene in Fight Club where new recruits had to stand outside for three days before they could be accepted.
Anyone who wants to be a Marine but is turned away by the likes of Code Pink wouldn’t have made a good Marine anyway.

R_not   February 4th, 2008 - 9:09 pm

These morons, code pink, don’t even have a clue. Clueless idots, clueless sheep – and they are the ones who call others who disagree with them ’sheep’.

Dave   February 4th, 2008 - 9:49 pm

What a bunch of losers. Would be funny to see these dorks in a country that does not recognize freedom the way we do. The GTMO style jumpsuits are a nice touch.

joe   February 4th, 2008 - 11:23 pm

Only congress can declare war by the constitution. So being a person who believes in the constitution yes I feel the Iraq war is illegal.

But with that being said, those protesters have no right to bar anyone from entering that place.

Nifty   February 4th, 2008 - 11:24 pm

Where would these protesters be in any other country trying to keep the military from from performing its function? It is so hypocritical that they really do not understand that without the military establishment they would truly not have the right to be such jackasses. Keeping people from voluntarily serving and protecting their country is so much different from protesting a draft. Funny how the same left leaning people cry for the military to do their bidding when they have people they ‘trust’ in the office of the president where it is okay to bomb trains full of innocent people in Kosovo…but if the current administration dare to imprison a terrorist or extract information to save lives through harmless measures such as water boarding (yeah folks- more people have died in Kennedy’s car than from water boarding!) they wont have anything to do with it!

Lonewolf   February 4th, 2008 - 11:28 pm

I grew up near Berkeley Ca. and believe me I am not being sarcastic here, the robots in that town are so naive, gullible, and stupid they would elect Saddam Hussein as mayor if he was still alive. These brainwashed pathetic “Useful Idiots” blame every problem in the world on USA. Funny though if the Socialist mecca of Berkeley were to be invaded say by Islamic radicals these same “Useful Idiots” would be crying like the little b***hes they are for help from the same Marines they now despise.

John Baker   February 4th, 2008 - 11:34 pm

The United States of America’s fabric of freedom allows public dissent but Code Pink blocking the door to this recruiting station should not be allowed. The police standing netural? Tell them there is no pay for netural behavior. The abortion clinics are protected and their doors kept clear by laws and enforced by police, but not the front doors to our miliary which insures and protects the freedom used by Code Pink and others to protest. Code Pink go try your protest in Burma, China, Iran, pick any zero freedom country. Take the federal money from Berkeley and remove their right to fly the FLAG outside their buildings until our recruiting station doors are not blocked. Let them protest across the street but do not allow them to block the doors.

SoCal Patriot   February 4th, 2008 - 11:40 pm

“Only congress can declare war by the constitution. So being a person who believes in the constitution yes I feel the Iraq war is illegal.”
Congress has to authorize war but it doesn’t have to have the words “declaration of war” at the top. Congress DID authorize the wars and they are legal…

Dennis   February 4th, 2008 - 11:41 pm

The reason the “cops” are not doing anything is probably because the protestors are the same people that the cops get high with and go to bed with every night, a different one every night. Why else did they give the Code Pink lunatics a free parking space directly outside the recruiting office? And at the same time Congress is going to grant hundreds of thousands of your tax money in a pork grant to Berkeley’s super-upscale Chez Panisse for “educational purposes”? We lie down and take what our government gives us! They are laughing their well-worn derrieres off at the rest of us up in Berkeley!

Bet E. Crockered   February 5th, 2008 - 12:24 am

So. Cal Patriot, your link includes the following item:

“$243,000 for the Chez Panisse Foundation, for a school lunch initiative to integrate lessons about wellness, sustainability and nutrition into the academic curriculum.”

I guess, translated, that surely means that a free sampler is to be limousined daily over to the front door of UC Berkeley Professors’ National Front, to help them survey the wares using our tax dollars, as a teaching aid on how to keep their students’ delicate Bay Area palates free of any of that dirty cheap food that the rest of the country has to make do with? After all, we wouldn’t want to be indoctrinating yet another generation of impressionable malleable young minds into the ways of carefully taught intellectual bigotry and intolerance solely on the kind of food that, you know, “Red Staters”, rubes, Okies, or the other non-enlightened would accept! Power to the…..people? Yeah, right! Keep those tax gifts coming, yum yum!

libsukbad   February 5th, 2008 - 12:37 am

Since the “neutral” cops are just going to stay across the street and do nothing, I suggest taking these tense moments and having some fun. First, to ensure the neutrality of the cops, a couple of machine gun toting patriots are to stand outside to guard from interference. Then, approach the chained code pinkos and proceed to start up a chainsaw, this , if carried out by someone with a liberal-like distant and crazed look in their eyes is sure to provide hilariously fast movement on the part of the pinkos.

E390   February 5th, 2008 - 1:01 am

Try this at an abortion clinic and see how neutral the cops will behave. Cut off all federal funding. I wish these America hating freaks would leave my country.

Patriot   February 5th, 2008 - 1:01 am

I’m proud of my hometown. Go Bears! Think of all the dead on both sides and for what? For lies?

Bill   February 5th, 2008 - 1:02 am

Those pinkos are a disgrace. The cops should lose their badges. Thank God I don’t live there. These are the same people who would scream for the Marines to save them. Total hypocrites. I guess there’s always hope an earthquake will drop the whole place into the ocean.

CDJ   February 5th, 2008 - 1:11 am

That’s why it’s called Berserkley. And I think the term “useful idiots” also applies here.

SoCal Patriot   February 5th, 2008 - 1:11 am

“For lies?”
Then tell you and your kind to quit lying…

Maya Benjascam   February 5th, 2008 - 1:33 am

All you have to do is mace them and squirt vinegar in their foul mouths. What also works is putting them under citizens arrest if the cops won’t do their jobs.

CCB   February 5th, 2008 - 1:41 am

First of all, the police should be totally ashamed of themselves. I do not care what orders they are under.
Secondly, If i were to walk into that recruiting station, i would first announce my intent on going in, and would also declare that the first person that touches me in way of obstructing my entrance to the recruiting center is getting KNOCKED OUT!!!!!!!!!
FISTS would be flying!!!!!!!!!!

Linda   February 5th, 2008 - 1:41 am

Pull all federal funding from this school. Don’t use my hard earned dollars to support a subversive institution. If I had my way the school would close. It’s scary to think they would do this to the people who make it possible to for us to be free. Totally UNAMERICAN!!!!!

joe dirt   February 5th, 2008 - 2:11 am

You all are crazy! “Pinko’s?” Are you kidding? I was a marine, but I knew better than to go to Berkeley! Maybe they are not protesting the Marines? Maybe they are tired of five years terror we have inflicted upon innocent people?

Chris Beck   February 5th, 2008 - 2:11 am

Somebody in Berkeley needs to find the names of these people. I’m sure USA would love to have phone numbers, addresses, you name it.

Gunny   February 5th, 2008 - 2:12 am

I hope that young enlistee or potential recruit that fell down sues that group for violating his civil rights! What a bunch of clowns that sit there and physically prevent these Marines from conducting business and then say that “they are trained to kill, so they would do anything,” where is the freedom of speech for the people interested in joining the Corps, I guess that is not protected in Berkely..

Dan L   February 5th, 2008 - 2:12 am

My God! I live 10 miles form this hell hole. And every year more and more of these losers move to my town for our top rated schools. Unfortunately, they also bring the same Commie crap that ruined the schools along with everyting else in Berkeley. It wont be long before I’ll be looking for a new town.
Also. Technically the Marines office is Federal property and under the jurisdiction of Federal Agents. But alas, Bush has no balls and will not send in the G-men to lock these losers up. Unlike California, Fed time is hard time, no early release.

Kelly O   February 5th, 2008 - 2:13 am

These people truly are idiots. If we want to have an all-volunteer service and not a draft, then these recruiting centers are necessary. If these fools succeed in shutting down too many recruiting centers, a draft will be necessary and then everybody loses.

Idiots. I agree that no public funds should support anything at Berkeley.

MDWhite   February 5th, 2008 - 2:17 am

joe dirt writes…”You all are crazy! “Pinko’s?” Are you kidding? I was a marine, but I knew better than to go to Berkeley! Maybe they are not protesting the Marines? Maybe you could find a girlfriend in the Code Pink herd…or maybe even a boyfriend ! After all, it is Berkeley we’re talking about isn’t it ?

I suppose you’d rather allow countless millions of folks in the Middle East to lose their lives under the meaningless lie of Islamic radicalism, and ultimately threaten the lives of those of us in the West for the sake of that same meaningless lie?

> If one Iraqi or Iranian life gets saved, it’s

“Patriot,” do yourself a favor and educate yourself about Islamic radicalism so you can start to wrap your head around the true magnitude of the threat we face. Try reading the Koran as well so you can learn what the “religion of peace” is really all about.

Yes, the war is all about lies — in particular, the lies that emanate continuously from the Middle East, and many of which are parroted directly by the Democrats.

It is time to obtain a permit from the mayor of brokely to counter-protest. http://www.mercurynews.com/breakingnews/ci_8143578?nclick_check=1

HA Ha! You wieners I mean whiners cant take it! HAHA in the real world there are people who actually stand up for what they believe in! Berkeley rules. Sheep stay out, you can have the rest of the country.

Geogib   February 5th, 2008 - 3:53 am

Little do these protesters realize that the very country that allows them to protest is being served by members of the Armed Forces around the world to uphold these freedoms of expression. What they fail to understand is simply that a nation must be vigilant to protect these freedoms. I am more sickened by the local politicians who have chosen to make this issue a rally call to protest our presence in Iraq. Although I would like to agree with those who voice the removal of federal funding from this town, I feel the best approach is simply to let the Marines stay and keep a presence in this community. First abortion clinics, and now armed services recruiting offices, what’s next?

david   February 5th, 2008 - 4:06 am

So is it okay for pro-life advocates to block the entrance of abortion clinic in Berkley and not allow women into the clinic i nthe same manner? Will the police remain “neutral” if that happens?

D Jones   February 5th, 2008 - 5:07 am

OK. I believe that Berkley is populated by wackos. We should cut all funding to their universities, etc. I am a red, white, and blue American.

But… why do we have a recruiting office in Berkley, CA anyway? Does that make sense to anyone? Is there ANYONE within a 500 mile radius of that stupid town who thinks that a military career is the way to go? I doubt it.

Come on San Andreas. Do your thing. Drop those wackos into the Pacific.

United States Code 18 U.S.C. § 2381 “Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.”

’nuff said.

Heather Jacobsen   February 5th, 2008 - 10:21 am

The Berkeley Police had already been hogtied by the City Council by this point. They did eventually arrest the boneheaded “World Can’t Waterboarders”, but its clear that they had been told to stand down. The City Council must not have understand that if you give a Code Pinker an inch she’ll chain an RCP/WCW to your Recruiting office.

In the same way that Marine recruiters shouldn’t be despised for policy decisions, the BPD needs our sympathy. Most of them have strong anti-Pink leanings, and are too professional to display them.

Tolerance, all.

Fascinating that so many people here cite THE LAW and are outraged that the police and Codepink are breaking it. Our president and vice-president have undermined the greatest law of the land, the U. S. Constitution, by lying to the public to start a war, by authorizing warrantless wiretapping of U. S. citizens, abandoning the rule of habeus corpus, ignoring the Geneva Convention, etc.

Many thousands of people die every day because of our law-breaking administration yet you folks reserve your outrage for a street protest in Berkeley. And this administration has destroyed evidence requested by the commission on 9/11 and the families of those who died that day, people who are looking for answers and deserve them from our president. Yet you spend your time complaining about . . . Berkeley kooks? Where are your priorities, people?

Enuff Senuff   February 5th, 2008 - 11:41 am

Berkeley is the destination for the dysfunctional rabble form all over the country. Most people who live there abandoned their families because “my mother called me a bad name” or “my daddy hurt my feelings”, most of them criticized for drug use or sexual escapades at a young age. So off they went to the hedonistic utopia of Berkeley, where it was and is all about “me” and only “me”. And no Jesus gonna tell me what to do – my professors and my peers would ridicule me if I dared to believe in one anyway, and I wouldn’t be called an intellectual! Most of these voluntary subhumans couldn’t care a jot when their parents are sick or dying, because “my past is all just a bad trip, man” and because “these are my new family, man”. They car about only themselves and their super-shallow little existence out in Berkeley. Quite the polar opposite of what that town once represented at the cutting edge of social and cultural issues. It’s a human and cultural wasteland today and, as many other posters who know it have hinted, it really is little more the armpit of the western world. The best medicine for those clowns is to TOTALLY ignore them, impress upon all your legislators to not put up with the abuse of your tax dollars to support this kind of place when they show repeated and utter contempt for the rest of civilization. Enough is enough.

When law enforcement refuses to uphold the letter of the law, it is time for vigilante justice to rise. I will be very surprised if this doesn’t occur.

One more thing, I gotta quote it;

so where was the fire department – blocking that entrance constituted a fire hazard. They obviously don’t understand the concept of free enterprise nor do they seem to care about those kill U.S. citizens. Guess it is okay to kill us; we have no right to protect or fight back. Sounds a lot like what is told to Israel – they have no right to fight back to being bombed mutiple times day in and day out by their ‘neighbors’. Why are we not allowed to fight back – we put up with over 10 years of attacks leading up to 9 – 11.

Mental midgets shouldn’t confuse berkley or SF with all of California. There are a few of us Republicans here, Reagan was a Californian too. :D

Vicky   February 6th, 2008 - 12:27 am

I believe California should offically be declared what it is, a Rogue State. We should seize it with military force and overthrow it’s subversive governments. We should clean house. Rename it The New Republic and redirect it toward becoming a military state with the most sophisticated weaponry and intelligence depts in the world. It should also be home to the world’s leading space travel and scientific research facitlitys. It should be a bastion for Constitutional displays and studies. It should be home to religious expression and freedom. Lastly it should have the largest number of museums for American History in our country, with one entire Center devoted to the study of our Constitution and Declaration of Independence. NO wacky ‘living’ constitution crap or international law business. That would be a most excellent adventure indeed.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., says the City of Berkeley, Calif., no longer deserves federal money.

DeMint was angered after learning that the Berkeley City Council voted this week to tell the U.S. Marine Corps to remove its recruiting station from the city’s downtown. The Berkely City Council also gave the red light to Code Pink offering accomdation for easy access to protest outside the Marine Recruiter’s office and probably telling law enforncement officers to stand down.

“This is a slap in the face to all brave service men and women and their families,” DeMint said in a prepared statement. “The First Amendment gives the City of Berkeley the right to be idiotic, but from now on they should do it with their own money.” 5 other Republican senators have joined DeMint in introducing Semper Fi Act 2008

SACRAMENTO – Republican Assemblyman Guy Houston of San Ramon announced plans today to punish Berkeley’s stance against Marine recruiting by withholding $3.3 million in state road funds, atop a $2.3 million federal allocation that’s now been challenged.

Is there a logical reason why only the right side of the aisle finds insulting the Marine Corps (past and present) wrong? Even if Mayor Tom Bates issues an empty apology ,I say let there be no Federal Funds until everyone on Berkeley’s City Council who voted for the two propositions is out of office. They don’t deserve the public’s trust.

I DON’T subscribe to the ” I support our Troops but not their mission ” propaganda, but I DO subscribe to boycotting anything made or sold in Berkeley. I Will be checking where my produce is grown from now on.

My poly sci prof taught me” You get the government you deserve”, and if the business comunity has relinquished its government to the granola-eating,macrame-weaving wackos so be it. Like I stated before, you get the government you deserve!

I wanted to address two posts in particular: Pogue Mahone’s and D Jones’s.

To Pogue Mahone: I’ll start off by saying I am a UC Berkeley student. It’s unfair for you to generalize and associate UC Berkeley students with the (typical) citizens of Berkeley. I’m not going to lie, there’s 32,000+ students at UCB and some of them are the type of riff-raff who protest the slightest gust of wind. But to calland belittle UC Berkeley and UC Berkeley academics based on the actions of its host city is foolish.

To D Jones: Do you really think every single citizen in Berkeley is a galvanized communist? Who’s crazy enough to join the military in Berkeley?– I don’t know, but they have a pretty decent ROTC program. If my understanding of the Marine Recruitment Center is correct, they’re looking for college graduates, not high school (enlisted) recruits.

Now, as a UC Berkeley ROTC student, I’d like to say that I found the protest utterly despicable, and the actions of the city council condoning such behavior even worse. I was on Shattuck that particular day (although I apparently just missed the chaining, they were arrested shortly before I got there) and you can be sure that no UC Berkeley educated student was there with the “Code Pink” and whatever those mock-Guantanamo Bay prisoners call themselves (I can’t recall right now).

Yes, I completely agree with Berkeley’s 1st Amendment right to free speech and freedom of assembly and such. However, it’s a federal crime to block entrance to a recruitment center. I could care less if they protest outside the Marine Recruitment Center 24/7, but to actually interfere with the flow of business is not a protected Constitutional right.

Furthermore, I thought the City Council’s say on the matter was buffoonish as well. Councilwoman Olds seems to believe that “free speech was born in Berkeley”. No– free speech was born on the American battlefield and paid for with the blood of American soldiers. American soldiers like the Marines that the city council is so eager to evict.

If there was a feasible way to exclude Berkeley from “National Security” or “National Defense”, I’d be all for it. Perhaps Berkeleyans would be a little less eager to remove those soldiers who place their lives on the line every day so that those Berkeleyans CAN have the protests that they do.

I’d like to close with a quote from Code Pink, simply because it’s so utterly ridiculous:

“We are the defenders of democracy, the upholders of the Constitution. If it weren’t for people like the people in Berkeley, standing up for what they believe, we’d be living under Hitler.”

Code Pink has enlightened me, because I did not realize the pivotal role these Anti-Americans played in winning World War II for us.

Berkeley, “The Most UNAmerican City in America”. The lack of action by the Berkely Police makes me sad to say I’m a retired policeman.

The City of Berkeley has forgotten all the Marines that gave their lives for our Freedom.
Shame on you Berkeley and Mr. Bates, you were a bum
in the 60’s when you gave a speech to Local 444 and you have’nt changed.
Shame to the Berkeley Police Department for lack of not letting people enter without a hassel.
Guodos for Guy Houston for stepping forward,
where are the democrats.

I can honestly say the Marine Corp has been good to me. It taught me so many good things to help me through my life. It is said if you stay in the Marines 4 years it will take you 8 years to resume life as a civilian. That’s wrong. You never get our of the Marine Corp. I love the Marine Corp. I will always be a Marine. I would gladly join today and go to Iraq if I wasn’t to old. If only I could be in uniform with my fellow Marines again. It was the greatest time of my life. When I am buried there will be a Marine Corp flag on the inside of my casket cover. Little ole’ me and our Marine colors above my body is all I ask. My having the honor of serving my country as a US Marine is the highest honor I have attained in my life. God Bless America and God Bless the Marine Corp. I still serve God and I still serve our Marine Corp. Remember Chesty.

The City Council of Berkeley once again shows its true colors. That’s so much for freedom of speech and choice, theirs and Code Pink’s only. The rest of the world can go to hell, according to them. Perhaps the City Council should officially declare its independence from the USA and adopt “The People’s Republic of Berkeley” or better yet Berserkeley!!!

DJ   February 9th, 2008 - 8:39 pm

How ironic. They’re bashing the same marines that maintain the right for them to make such a protest. I hope someday one of those pink folks are traveling in another country and are kidnapped by terrorist. I wonder if they would want those aweful marines to come rescue them. They should be followed and on a day when they are going about their usual business, kept from entering an establishment. I’d like to see how they would react.

Michael E. Kerr   February 10th, 2008 - 3:59 pm

Berkeley has a right to protect their children from military recruitment!

I am a Vietnam area Army veteran who served in Korea for nearly two years until I was illegally removed from Korea by the U.S. Army at the request of the Korean Dictator Park Chung Hee back in 1975. I had written numerous letters to congress & President Ford about our use of the military to support a vicious dictatorship.

I agree that our military soldiers are not the problem.

The problem is our politicians like the 6 Republicans who want to punish Berkeley, the entire pro-life Republican party whose motto should be “We support the sanctity of life from conception until birth”, like Rep George Miller, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Senator Hillary Clinton Senator Diane Fienstein who all pretend to be against the War & President Bush’s war crimes & police state policies but really do nothing about it!

The problem is our politicians who use our tax money to force our young people in the military to risk their lives in order to support dictatorships and to fight in illegal wars of aggression and occupation in violation of all International treaties just so corporations and the super rich can make obscene profits!

The community of Berkeley has a right to state opposition to these crimes against the people of America and the world as plainly as possible.

The community of Berkeley has a right to act to protect their children from the military recruitment pimps who are spending 100’s of millions of our scarce tax money to falsely promote and lure our children into the military.

The community of Berkeley has a right to oppose the pro-military zealots who are using political blackmail to force our schools to turn over our young innocent children to the military recruiters under the program “No Child Left Behind” a truly educational & moral disaster.

We need children to learn to think for themselves and not waste their time in school trying to memorize the government’s approved correct answers as mandated by the “No Child Left Behind” education program of teaching to the test. Rep. George Miller’s “sick baby” which he continues to be proud of despite 7 years of serious underfunding and failure.

With programs like “No Child Left Behind” we will only raise more and more brain dead sheep like the people who will follow the evil hate-filled Melanie Morgan and “Move America Forward” in their invasion of Berkeley this Tuesday.

Alarm Man   February 11th, 2008 - 5:26 pm

Our “community” of Berkeley has exercised it’s right to be idiotic and commit atrocious behavior. The “community” must now be closed down under Federal Eminent Domain for also committing Treason, and moved to the santuary of the middle east. The “community” can work hard there using traditional Berkeley methods to influence world peace and love. Best place to start is with the radical muslim extremists. Have fun.
Peace.

I am a Marine MOM and damn proud of it! My son is currently deployed to Iraq now and I know if his battalion could just have a few minutes in this waste of land they call Berkely – the problems would cease.

For Michael E. Kerr, you really need to get your insanity medicine filled!

my heart bleeds when i see what the great university city of berkeley, home to some of the greatest of american scientists, is indulging in now. had i lived there i would have personally beaten up some of those pinkies. even the women, those @#$@#% deserve it.

Maria Gacel   February 14th, 2008 - 6:35 pm

Just another day in Berkeley.
Disagreeing with the war is one thing but attacking US troop recruiters is ridiculous. People who join the military do so of their own free will, and many do so to serve their country. My father was in the USMC, and he was fuming.
As for the cops, don’t get too mad at them. The reason they do nothing is because city police chiefs have to do what the city council wants or be fired. The council appoints them. If the police broke up the protest, some of the officers would be fired.

Young   February 14th, 2008 - 7:50 pm

Pogue Mahone…your comments are exactly the reason people from Berkeley and other areas of the country rise up and try to get their voices heard. I am a Christian from Berkeley and am insulted by your very anti-Christian language. Hypocrisy lies in your heart as evidenced by your comment. The war is illegal and unwarranted. I believe that it is a war not justified by law of men and of God. Jesus was a man of peace yet Christians continue to impose their beliefs forcefully on other nations and even our own citizens. We all have the right to stand up for what we believe in. I was at the protests to see first hand what was going on. Most of the foul and berrating language, aggressive confrontations, and mindless ridicule and hate were the products of the pro-military groups. I have never seen such abhorrent behavior. I guess the love of war and strife and inexcusable behavior go hand in hand. All of you should be ashamed of yourselves. I am solely for the fact that you should be Christians promoting your faith through your example and words. There are much larger issues that need to be addressed in this country. Stop wasting this country’s time and money on this illegal war. I am ashamed for all of you.

Army Mom   February 16th, 2008 - 9:57 am

These protesters are showing their ignorance. They are exercising their rights, but preventing others to exercise their rights. They are the ones making it a police state, using their own words. They have every right to disagree with the war, but have NO right to prevent others wanting to serve in the military. The police were wrong in not doing anything. If, for example, anti-abortion protesters did the same actions that these protesters did, the police would have made many arrests. I’m not happy with the war and would rather have my son home, but I am proud of him serving his country and I would never do to the Marines what these people have done. It is totally uncalled for.

Nikolet   March 18th, 2008 - 1:01 am

Nice site!

dtm   April 13th, 2008 - 4:46 am

I think these protestors violated the free will of all the people who wanted to access the building and they should have been arrested for refusing to allow access to the building. I think the cops are spineless assholes who are working for the Berkeley City Council, which should have all of their state and federal funds immediatley terminated until they comply with the laws of our contry.
Further, I think the Marine Corp should show up with the same amount of force needed to give them access to their property, and if access is not given, that the people denying them access should be charged with federal crimes and dealt with in federal court. I can’t even begin to say how disgusted I am with the “neutral” law enforcement of the City of Berkeley. They should be arrested by the Feds as aiders and abbeters to the trespass situation. Further, I think if those spineless people attempted to restric my legal access to my place of work, I would use whatever amount of force that was necessary to remove the impedement to my legal access — much to the dismay of the protestors — afterall, in civil disobedeance there are consequences — some of those could be dire.
As for this Christian bullshit espoused by the idiot from Berkeley — the first things Christians don’t do is impose their will on others, huh? You have your right to differ with othres, but you have NO right to impede their right to enter a building — or you pay a price.
And if you don’t like the price of doing business as a protestor — that’s fine, but the price of civil disobedence may be that you receive what you give — physical resistance met with enough force to insure that access by the people who have a legal reason to be there. This is not about war, it’s about disobedence — disobey, go to where you belong — confinement. You spineless folks — get a grip — this world has needs. You want to think everything is okay because you want peace? Okay, so why do you behave like you do and impose your will on others?

Anarchy is not governess it’s lawlessness — and that’s what the City Council of Bereley is fostering by their conduct.

The conduct displayed is outrageous.
