If approved by the senate, this–so called–justice will be a RBG clone, with the goal of legislating from the bench. She’s said as much. An awful choice but not unexpected from a radical leftist like Obama.

I cannot wait to see the Republicans go after her and they will.
She represent two groups that the Republicans are losing ground with.Women and Hispanics.

Two things that will make this really interesting.
1.She was first was appointed to the federal district court for the Southern District of New York by a Republican — then-President George H.W. Bush — in 1991.

2.On the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, Sotomayor is part of a panel that declined to rule on the merits of a major reverse discrimination case involving firefighters in New Haven, Conn, that is now before the Supreme Court.

Now we will just see what happens.

so if the panel declined to rule on the reverse discrimination case does that mean that she also felt that way or was the odd person out. that reverse discrimination case is HUGE. either it will validate the blacks are inferior act(affirmative action) or end it.
i doubt there is any major dirt on this woman and expect she’ll be put through irrespective of her beliefs

That probably means she saw nothing wrong with anti-white discrimination as most liberal latino activists would not. If she saw a problem with that in the constitution she would have voted to bring it to trial. That is the definition of a liberal judge – if it feels good then do it regardless whether it is constitutional or not. Contrary to the Big O’s opinion that judges should bring “empathy” to the court, empathy has no place in determining whether the something is constitutional. It either is or is not.

This gal will be good for us. She ruled against white firefighters because the City throw out test results on a promotion because people of brown and black color did not score as good as White people. I say good for her. It doesn’t matter how smart you are what matters is the color of your skin. I hope she keeps up the good work when she gets on the Court. Smarter people should not be promoted over dumber people. Skin color should count.

Let me get this straight . . .American Liberal. are you joking??? Let’s say you are in a burning building. You have a white-green purple-black (color does not matter here) person (gender does not matter either) who excelled at proper techniques of rescue because he /she worked hard and studied several hours and aced the firefighter rescue test. On the other hand you have a white-green-purple-black) person who did not work hard, study and barely passed the firefighter rescue test. Which would you want to rescue you? The person who is dedicated and knows their stuff, or someone who just gets by and barely knows their stuff? Remember, color should not matter . . . Me thinks anyone with an IQ greater than their shoe size would want the smarter, better equipped firefighter to rescue them. This judge ruled that the person who excelled could not be promoted because he was not black. NOT RIGHT. But then, Obama is of the same thinking. Sad state of affairs. Hard work is punished and mediocre work is rewarded. Not logical.

What should concern every citizen ( liberal, conservative etc.) is that Judge Sotomayor has publicly stated that she can legislate from the bench ( more or less) it is public record. I admire her ambition to get where she is today but— I fear her interpretation of what it means to be a Supreme Court Justice– I think if you dig into her 10 yrs on the appellate court you will get a good idea of how she does business. I hope her appointment will be defeated. I am a female, of immigrants who had to start all over when they came here. No one has it easy– but we don’t want someone to do social engineering for Obama from the bench. Another fine day in Obamaland– by the way — I hope he has some concrete plan for North Korea other than running and whining to the UN.

peter c, you misread my comments. i actually looked up her opinion on the new haven issue and she was for discrimination (pro affirmative action). she was chastised for her lack of constitutional thought on the matter by a colleague.

i was just stating at the end that unless she has engaged in criminal behavior she’ll get in. obama would never pick anything less than a leftist. i am 100% positive that all her major opinions about life are 180 degrees from mine. i hope she gets pancreatic cancer too.

60% of Sotomayor’s rulings have been reversed by the Supreme Court. That means she is not good material for a Supreme Court judge in itself.

Aside from the self stated fact she thinks courts should determine policy instead of interpret the law, all the talk of the “empathy” and “life experience” she will bring to the court shows that she and those who are pushing this appointment have not a clue what the Supreme Court does in the first place. Of course this is typical of the liberal Democrat who will put “feels good” above “Constitutional” any day.

None of this has any bearing on whether a lower court decision is in compliance with the plain and unambiguous language of the Constitution. That is the only thing that is to be decided – any other factor is outside the purpose of the court. Her “empathy” or “life experience” has absolutely no bearing on a case that is before the Supreme Court.
If that is her highest recommendation then she has no qualifications at all.
