"My name is Connie, and while I know you want to focus on me, I think it's appropriate that you focus on the donors family that made it possible that I could have this Christmas present, I guess you could say."

God bless her. The scumbag husband only got seven years? I hope people and the press hound him every single day until he succesfully completes his efforts to end his miserable life!

carrie   May 5th, 2009 - 8:32 pm

She’s truly a beautiful woman. I was touched by her kind heart and sincerity. We need more people with such an attitude today.

Neal E   May 5th, 2009 - 8:36 pm

She is a brave woman

Eric   May 5th, 2009 - 9:06 pm

GOD BLESS YOU CONNIE.

Mark   May 5th, 2009 - 9:15 pm

She is truly a beautiful, kind-hearted woman. God bless her. How many of us get depressed over things so trivial compared to what she’s been through? What an wonderful example of a positive attitude and strength in the face of adversity. This should make us all take a moment and thank God for our blessings. And please try to take Connie’s advice to heart. So many of us are so concerned with appearances.

Paul R Lusk   May 5th, 2009 - 9:19 pm

May God bless you! I wish you all the best, and God Speed! You are an inspiration!

Chris   May 5th, 2009 - 9:19 pm

What kind of person would do that to her? And how brave she is to have gone through all of that and still remain so positive.

arhooley   May 5th, 2009 - 9:23 pm

Her bravery, humility, and gratitude are inspiring and touching.

I cannot begin to imagine the strength, courage and determination it took for you to survive day to day. You are an extraordinary human being. May God bless you with love, peace and happiness in the days ahead.

Peter   May 5th, 2009 - 10:14 pm

Connie–In just moments of listening to you, I found myself seeing the beauty of your heart and soul. It comes through your eyes, words, and very being. Be well, I hope you have continued success.

edk   May 5th, 2009 - 10:28 pm

God bless this woman and her doctors and expically the selfless family that assisted her, in their grief. The triumph of the human spirit over evil, over grief, over pain, over self absorption, should give us hope that our species may yet survive our collective stupidity..

mark m   May 5th, 2009 - 10:55 pm

wow! Connie is truly an inspiration! it makes me emotional to know and believe that good people still exist in our times. the family who donated their passed loved one, the doctors who worked for 22 hours straight. Ops, can’t forget the donor’s family either, my condolences for your tragic loss of a loved one, your selflessness won’t be forgotten.
A very important factor.

a_reader_   May 5th, 2009 - 11:15 pm

I echo what others have said above.
I cannot imagine summoning the courage and strength this woman has to endure. So glad she can enjoy the simple things in life like eating food and smiling, kissing her children and grandchildren.
May you continue to shine Connie.
Thanks for sharing and going public.
Kudos to all the Doc’s and medical personal it took to accomplish this, as well.

CJ   May 5th, 2009 - 11:35 pm

We are so happy for you Connie. May God continue His work in your life and give you peace, stamina and faith for the future. You are a truly beautiful lady!

Charles   May 5th, 2009 - 11:53 pm

Wow, I’m not a very humble person, and am pretty arrogant, but that just humbled me a lot. She has a lot of courage. I hope she improves a lot and may she see much success down the road.

George   May 5th, 2009 - 11:56 pm

Kevin   May 6th, 2009 - 12:41 am

You are a strong woman. Technology has embraced your hopefully your can be a spokeswomen for the future of crimes for crimes which you have experience.

Your courage is very attractive and your public approval of the procedure is very welcome!

Joseph   May 6th, 2009 - 3:06 am

Wow . . . that was touching.

It is so easy to take everything for granted. I have never even thought about not having a nose. I wish her well and many years.

Alexander Kaida   May 6th, 2009 - 3:55 am

The next Sarah Palin.

Robert   May 6th, 2009 - 7:41 am

We ought to be thankful for the blessings of the rational human mind and its ability to achieve such brilliance and benevolence in science and technology and the heroism exhibited by the healthcare professionals and the strength, patience and courage of the patient, Connie in this experiment.

Far Reich Wing Wacko   May 6th, 2009 - 9:35 am

@Alexander Kaida

Your remarks are indicative of your idiotic self. I would NEVER wish this horrendous act on anyone, but for you, I may be willing to make an exception. This tragedy and success story has NOTHING to do with politics, period! This is an AMERICAN story that has inspirational value for all! The right and the left!

This wonderful human being should be an inspiration to the rest of us who so often take our health and what material items we may have for granted. God bless her, her family, the donor’s family, and the whole staff at the Cleveland Clinic!

God’s speed Connie!

[...] Recipient of First-Ever Full Face Transplant Speaks CLEVELAND (AP) – Five years ago, a shotgun blast left a ghastly hole where the middle of her face had been. Five months ago, she received a new face from a dead woman. Connie Culp stepped forward Tuesday to show off the results of the nation’s first face transplant, and her new look was a far cry from the puckered, noseless sight that made children run away in horror.Culp’s expressions are still a bit wooden, but she can talk, smile, smell and taste her food again. Her speech is at times a little tough to understand. Her face is bloated and squarish, and her skin droops in big folds that doctors plan to pare away as her circulation improves and her nerves grow, animating her new muscles. [...]

It is absolutely amazing what modern medicine can achieve. This woman is truly remarkable! The improvement is dramatic and will get better as she heals. It’s great to have an inspirational story to comment on for a change.

I agree with a previous poster. This guy got seven years for this? The very least we can do for this woman is give her a sense of security. He should not be allowed on the street while this woman is alive OR until such time as SHE decides that he should be released.

Dr.M.L.Kingfish   May 6th, 2009 - 2:28 pm

May GOD bless this woman.
Seven years,the second crime!
Does anyone think this would be possible with government controlled health care?

Airwick   May 6th, 2009 - 4:23 pm

Kingfish,
Actually the French did it first. Do they have controlled health care over there?

DoomsDays   September 10th, 2009 - 5:29 am
