Dem Congresswoman Admits Obama Health Care Plan Will Destroy Private Health Insurance Industry

“I know many of you here today are single payer advocates and so am I … and those of us who are pushing for a public health insurance don’t disagree with this goal. This is not a principled fight. This is a fight about strategy for getting there and I believe we will,” Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) told a group of government-run health care supporters on April 18.

the private insurance industry has failed so dismally i would not be surprised if we get single payer eventually. the first step is going to be subsidization of the larger insurers to cover all the uninsured but when you throw in the ever increasing number of them and the illegals then you end up with financial failure of that system. the end result of the subsidization system’s failure will lead to the public demand for single payer medical care. this will be a government directed pseudo-private industry much like our auto/banks are now.
decades ago the relationship between a doctor and the patient was corrupted by someone else paying the bill instead of the patient. this new system of insurance slowly eroded what should be a sacred relationship. lawyers sure haven’t helped either.
the single payer system will right the injustice of the uninsured but the unintended consequences of this should be obvious but wont be to the policy makers. the quality of care will markedly decrease as will the number of qualified providers. as new less qualified providers step up to do the jobs the system inevitably lowers its standards. and so it goes.

Our government can’t handle our mail system. They will totally f-up our health care system if we let them try to manage it.

Putting the government in charge of the health care system will put the government in charge of all our personal lifestyle choices. Get ready for mandatory tai chi.

Great. Just what we need, the government fowling up another industry. Hooray!

Justmy$0.02   May 1st, 2009 - 1:04 pm

Go ahead and make a single payer plan. But since this power is not granted to the government in the constitution, just be sure to pass the appropriate constitutional ammendment first and have it ratified by the states. Remember Congressman that you swore to uphold the constitution not usurp it.

MT   May 1st, 2009 - 1:07 pm

All one has to do is look at the postal service, the Department of Veterans Affairs and the granddaddy of all Federal Govt foul ups, the IRS to see how the feds will run a govt health insurance program.

No, I mean we really do!

The government taking over more of our lives? Always sounds like a great idea, makes you wonder why the democratics (not communists) want to control every single thing about your life. Makes you wonder why they want to control business. But they are not communists, the wealthy ruling class knows what is best for you! They are the thinkers.

rick   May 1st, 2009 - 1:13 pm

I it a requite that you need to be either a socialist – Obama and this nutjob, or felon – Blago, Ryan etc. to gain office in Chicago?

Greg   May 1st, 2009 - 1:13 pm

The superiority of a government run health care solution??? This party is so out of touch with reality it is unreal. The same gov’t that does what really well besides collect taxes??? Really, what?

This womans job (yes, she is a public servant–) is to ensure the safety, and welfare of her constituents–not put them at risk. If she is not capable (i.e., believe the govt does many things better than the private sector/is not capable of understanding) she needs to resign. Her constituents need to hold her accountable. The idea of one party changing America in the manner this party desires deserves every bit of every American’s anger and vocal response.

HansJurgen   May 1st, 2009 - 1:17 pm

Having spent time in the military and experiencing “government” health care – you don’t want it. The health care insurance industry needs to be overhauled and put into the same competitive mode as car insurance – bought individually rather than offered through corporations or business as a “benefit”. The competition would reduce costs, provide better quality, and be cheaper. And you would get a “raise” since the money a company holds out for your health care would go away and the expense of the same health care would cost you less through a individual policy.

Insurance Companies = Organized Crime   May 1st, 2009 - 1:18 pm

Well, she should save her bragging until it’s actually done but HERE, HERE! I want to see THAT industry go down in FLAMES!

Tony   May 1st, 2009 - 1:19 pm

If you are so convinced about the greatness of governmant run healthcare, do an internet search of “Canadian healthcare delays” or “British healthcare delays” and read their own government reports. Their own reports will tell you about people waiting months just to see a specialist, let alone get needed surgery. A UN report came out a few months ago that survivability of cancer or other deadly illnesses is highest in the US. Not socialized medecine!

myron_monk   May 1st, 2009 - 1:20 pm

That is exactly right, Mike. Average Americans need to remember which party is bringing the disaster that will be NHC.

Mike in Pdx   May 1st, 2009 - 1:23 pm

She’s not a child, she’s not a 7th grader, and she’s not “A DUMB POLLACK” (she happens to be Jewish, but that’s not the point):

She’s a crook. So is her husband. Look it up, he’a a lefty activist recently sentenced to 5 months (a lifetime for a Chicago heavy, they usually don’t do time) for tax evasion and check fraud. His name is Creamer.

She’s a crook just like him, and she wants to shake down the insurance industry. Or just destroy it to grab power.

Remember, she’s the one who said the Tea Parties were “despicable”, just two weeks ago.

She’s mad because Big O and Toes didn’t give her O’s Senate seat, show she’s just going off on her own to steal a bunch of money and power.

And she’s from the North Shore of Chicago, where all the “smart people” live. Looking good, Kenilwrorth!!

Maspeth Sally   May 1st, 2009 - 1:24 pm

Mike   May 1st, 2009 - 1:28 pm

I’m not rich, but Give me a break. National Health Care will be for the poor people and indigents and will be of poor quality. People with money will still pay for private insurance and have private doctors.

Just like they do in England, Norway, etc. I’ve lived in those countries and and I know. We will pay more taxes for the “free” health care and still pay for private insurance. What a scam.

myron_monk   May 1st, 2009 - 1:30 pm

This C|_|NT has no idea what she is working so fervently for. First, she and the rest of the “progressive” leftists can answer to the 2 million+ who will be unemployed by the demise of the healthcare industry. Then, she can attempt to explain the dual “crises” (because that will be the perpetual situation henceforth as described by the mindless media) of skyrocketing costs (yes, they will!) and the diminishing services that will result from a shrinking pool of healthcare professionals. Obviously, they have not seen the results of commu-care in Canada. I only wish we could accelerate the effects of this slow-death to self-rationing of healthcare because the public will be outraged when it happens. I assure you… Americans will be outraged. Oh, by the way, I am from the UK, where no one is happy with NH.

There are so many screwed up countries that have adopted those things that these socialists claim to want. Why do they feel the need to do it here? Why don’t they go to one of these countries and leave the US to those of us who believe in personal responsibility, freedom and equality? We’ve been given the closest thing to Eden that exists on earth, and these idiots can’t stand it….they HAVE to try to screw it up. What is wrong with these people?

“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism,’ they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

Sure just look how well Medicare(fed ran.) and medicaid(state ran, fed financed) are doing.

They wont have that many doctors in the programs unless they reform some of the tort laws. Dr. pay more in mal practice ins. than they pay office staff, even if they have never been sued.

Took my son in law in finland a month to get an appointment for a prostrate problem. Why do you think so many Canadians come to the US for emergency treatments. Then there is the refusal of care to the aged because its not cost benifical. see Britian health care for this one.

Yea mom sorry your too old for the hip replacement. But we did get a bed for you.

Janice   May 1st, 2009 - 1:37 pm

Where is this country going? Calling for the destruction of private companies, taking over private companies and giving controlling interest to unions and the government, promoting an atmosphere of class warfare and wealth re-distribution? What frightens me the most is the people in that video applauding the destruction of insurance companies and the people posting here who seem to happily approve.
Do any of you happy kool-aid drinkers recognize where all of this is going? Obama is getting control of health care, energy, the auto industry…will you be so happy in a few years when a Republican takes over that control? Obama is spending any “political capital” he had with independents…they won’t vote for this type of lunacy again.

KGG   May 1st, 2009 - 1:39 pm

I agree with Mike regarding that National Health Care will be for the poor. You are already paying for this in the US, and that is for the American/Alaska Natives who have free public health care. The quality of care is not up to par and good luck on seeing a specialist because the wait is long. Learn to wait and hopefully you don’t have a life-threatening disease because it may already be too late… Socialism at it’s finest……

Khadijah   May 1st, 2009 - 1:43 pm

“the private insurance industry has failed so dismally…”

At what? Their objective is to enrich their shareholders. I’d say they’ve done pretty well.

“will lead to the public demand for single payer medical care…”

Possibly so. After the government completely finishes screwing it up, the only alternative left will be post office health care. Nearly 100% of Americans who are covered by insurance today will experience worse care they currently have. But, the leftist goal of egalitarian health care will be achieved.

Sam   May 1st, 2009 - 1:43 pm

The people who are saying that all the poor deserve coverage and rich people will just pay for the care they can afford do NOT understand what a single payer system is. Under a single payer system, there is only ONE entity that CAN pay for healthcare. The Government. No matter how much money you have, you will NOT be allowed to pay for the healthcare of your choice. You will be ASSIGNED a doctor.. if it is a good doctor, you’ll be lucky. Carefull what you ask for.. you MIGHT JUST GET IT..

Glen   May 1st, 2009 - 1:45 pm

After we get single payer the next step will be single provider. Then the government will decide that maintaining all those little competing hospitals is inefficient and duplicative. So we will end up with giant regional hospitals employing substandard unionized medical providers that can be fired or sued for providing shotty service. God help the United States.

Random63   May 1st, 2009 - 1:46 pm

Will take the responsibility for all the unnecessary deaths she will cause if her and her ilk get this socialized medicine pushed through and destroy private healthcare?

old_and_wise   May 1st, 2009 - 1:46 pm

Nice! I wonder where all those people will find new jobs – but the big government proponents don’t really care about loss of jobs. To improve the pretty good health care system we have right now we should be increasing competition, not eliminating it. There are ways to reduce health care costs and provide health care for those who want it and don’t have it without destroying what we have. Some Canadian provinces don’t have too bad a health care system but the Federal Gov’t there is running out of money to fund health care and don’t know how to continue funding it.

Jamesb   May 1st, 2009 - 1:48 pm

Single payer = rationing for all. Got a headache, might be a tumor? Need an MRI? We’ll call you in 6 to 9 months for that MRI. If you’re still alive.

danfromatlanta   May 1st, 2009 - 1:49 pm

GOM, fortunatley, at least up until recent times, people could engage in any business they wanted as long as it wasn’t illegal. If the business served enough people well, then it would be successful. Otherwise it would fail, and do as you wish and be put out of business. The point is, market forces should determine success or failure, not some corrupt idiot in government acting on policital calculations. Any intervention in market forces by the overnment is an intrusion into individual freedom. If you want more government regulation, then be ready to give up more freedom. And by freedom, I mean not just freedom of acting in your own personal interests, but also money. Too many idiots such as yourself never seem to understand that money and freedom are one and the same, and the more you give to the government, the less you have to do with as you please. Man up, and take care of yourself, stop expecting me to take up your slack!

Sally   May 1st, 2009 - 1:55 pm

Fix the Social Security System first. Ask Veterans what they think of government run health care? Canadians are running across the border to get MRI’s in the USA. Brits women are dying from breast cancer because they can’t get proper medications.
All the clowns in this country that want socialized medicine should be the first test group of the Obama’s HMO.

I am in the livestock industry, and I heard this morning that ranchers with over 50 head of cattle would have to pay a $87.00 per head carbon tax.If the resolution is passed.Be that the case.Get your self a steak now and enjoy it.Because we don’t make enough money on a steer to pay that penality. No milk either, just get a government tit and suck on that.
We better fight the Marxists that have in 100 days turned into tyrants, and are out to destroy the economy and a free way of life .

From comments, noticed the for private insurance slant. Apparently none have paid into a plan for 20 years, received a “dropped” letter dated a month after the decision was made which occurred following two major surgeries. Now, privately uninsurable. Thanks private insurance. I paid you well. Did you enjoy your cruises on private yachts? Bonuses? I’m doing better on government insurance anyway. You did me a favor. Thanks.

Comrade Obama must be serving some strong Kool-Aid up there on the Hill. Health care is NOT a Right. It is a service that you pay for. The biggest mistake ever made was by Henry Kaiser in WWII when he offered to pay for his workers health care as a hiring incentive during the labor shortages in the war. I’m sorry 40 million Americans don’t have health insurance….whatever happened to just paying for stuff outright? It would be a lot cheaper (fewer paper pushers to process claims). God curse the Democrats!

Anita Colvin   May 1st, 2009 - 2:03 pm

Obviously, any profit motivated business is to be destroyed by those who despise free enterprise. Wonder where all the money is going to come from, (when work is no longer rewarded monitarily,) that will pay for all the entitlements these people think they should have. May be they will have killed the ‘golden goose’ before reality sinks in.

old_and_wise   May 1st, 2009 - 2:03 pm

In addition to what ClearRevelation suggests, limit the amounts that can be collected for malpractice suits so that doctors don’t have to spend such huge amounts for insurance.

Fragapalooza   May 1st, 2009 - 2:06 pm

Is this the kind of government Americans want? A government that tries to kill busniesses and unemploy people? The USA is no longer free. We are oppressed by our government. We are slaves to the government.

You obamabots that voted for this kind of politician may think its ok they destroy one industry now, but wait until it your industry that is on the chopping block and its your job you lose. Whats that? Oh, you dont have a job? Well then you serve no useful purpose to the tyrannical government and you will just be efficiently eliminated now that you have voted for them and youre no longer useful.

Shocked   May 1st, 2009 - 2:08 pm

Wow, so first the government can tell a ceo to step down and now the federal gov’t is saying they will put hard working americans in these insurance feilds out of work? what kind of country is this? certainly not what our forefathers planned for… sounds more like the place they left to start this great country… The feds better stop telling the private sector how to do business before we stand up against it. There are rights and amendments that restrict these actions that this congresswoman is pushing for… does that mean we can pick and choose which part of the constitution we want to use? Or maybe just not read the bill of rights?

How is the feds nationalizing healthcare going to improve anything? Primary care physicians are underpaid for their hard work and many years of school and training… there is currently a shortage of primary care… what is happening to social suecurity? how can the feds say they can do better when they can not even keep socail security afloat now? Why make a national healthcare program…
If your car breaks down do you just leave it and go buy a untested new model Or do you get it fixed the right way… That’s the real issue the current fixes to the health insurance ammendments have more ambiguity in them than the origainal problematic legislation in the beggining.

DavidArizona   May 1st, 2009 - 2:09 pm

I love my private health care company. Sure it costs a lot, but if I get really sick they pay almost %90. A friend of mine just survived a bad bout of cancer. Chemo, operation, radiation. The hospital and Doctor bill came to a MILLION Dollars. He paid a $300 dollar co-pay.

If he had lived in Canada or England, he would be dead.

ClearRevelation   May 1st, 2009 - 2:10 pm

Solve the majority of HealthCare Delivery issue in this country by doing 2 things: First, return 85 cents of every dollar spent on health care insurance back to health care. ie- cap what insurance companies can use for wages and administrative costs at 15% of money taken in. Quit paying stockholders 50% of collected funds, etc.. the Blues did this for years. Second, allow physicians to write-off as a loss a patient who can’t pay. At least he will get 35-40% of his payment as a tax credit to help defray overhead and malpractice. A large chunk of the uninsured will be pulled into the present system overnight. A huge part of the problem is solved with a simple pen stroke.

Shirley   May 1st, 2009 - 2:10 pm

Private Health Insurance companies get 4cents for each $1 spent on medical cost. Is this unreasonable? You think the Federal Government can do better than this? I don’t think so…

Jim_Mc   May 1st, 2009 - 2:11 pm

March to socialism! You think public healthcare is going to be better? Why do the people from the countries that provide public healthcare come to the US for treatment?

Do you like standing in line at the DMV? That is a foreshadowing of public healthcare.

If the US implements public healthcare, that will ultimately end in the govt telling us what we can and can’t eat – ’cause then health problems will be on the taxpayers dime. Say goodbye to all fast food restaurants!

ClearRevelation   May 1st, 2009 - 2:16 pm

OK, I don’t like to be the one who complains about a problem but doesn’t offer a solution…so here goes…
I perceive that we don’t resist the Federal government as we should, after all, it is “We the people”. The Federal government doesn’t respect our natural rights as guaranteed by our Constitution. It now recognizes NO limits on its power to regulate private human behavior.

“We” give the government authority, not the other way around. Conversely, we can take away government’s authority as well.

The 16th Amendment, enacted in 1913, allowed the Federal government to levy an “Income” tax. There is absolutely nothing wrong with voting to rescind the 16th Amendment. A new Constitutional Amendment can overturn and nullify a previous Amendment. For example, the 21st Amendement repealed the 18th Amendment(prohibition).
There are essentially two ways spelled out in the Constitution on how to propose an amendment. One has never been used.
The first method is for a bill to pass both houses of the legislature, by a two-thirds majority in each. This is the route taken by all current amendments.
However,
the second method prescribed is for a Constitutional Convention to be called by two-thirds of the States(and Conservatives Do have this many states), and for that Convention to propose one or more amendments. This route has never been taken but because of the serious disease of the federal political process and its obscene, out-of-control spending this must be used! This was the process put in the Constituion to contain a federal government gone beserk! We would starve their spending out of existence.

I believe that there is only one way to change the massive decadent political system in our country – quit funding it. Money is the blood of these vampires and ‘We, the people” can take away the “right “of the Federal government to tax us. “We” amended the Constitution and “We” can rescind or repeal that Amendment. YES, WE CAN!!

Enough is enough. Rescind the 16th Amendment and start over.
Tell you friends to rescind the 16th Amendment.
Put a sign in your yard stating “Rescind the 16th Amendment”
Put up a similar billboard.
Send emails to your friends to rescind the 16th Amendment.
Etc,etc,..
Congress would take note if they thought all their funding was going to be cut off and maybe, just maybe………..
When you fear your government-that is tyranny, but when your government fears you- that is liberty! Hold onto your liberty and exercise your right to rescind the 16th Amendment.

Remember, all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing

MDB   May 1st, 2009 - 2:16 pm

Health care is not a right. If you cannot afford a service, you do not have a right to it. Idiots who think otherwise just want my money to pay for something they haven’t earned. That’s just plain robbery. The only right you have is to pursue an avenue that might lead to financial success that might allow you to afford the health care you desire. The end result of a single payer gov run system is that it will cost me a lot more money and remove health care options that I can afford today because they won’t even be available tomorrow. Those who believe in the single payer gov system are delusional or criminal or both.

stacy   May 1st, 2009 - 2:17 pm

How can we possibly consider government run healthcare when our public schools are so bad? Unionized and tenured teachers have become albatrosses around every town and cities’ neck.

Also, I don’t even want to talk about healthcare for all until we decide who the “all” is. Does it include everyone who strolls across the boarder? Are we providing healthcare for the whole world?

Let us not create a new monster that is ineffective and out of control.

MDB   May 1st, 2009 - 2:17 pm

old_and_wise – paying a little more to subsidize health insurance/costs for those is need much closer to charity than what is being proposed. The single payer system will devastate any incentives in health care. There will be no incentive for research (because you can’t resoup research costs), no competition to provide services (like MRIs or specialty clinics), no reason to go to medical school or become a nurse). Services will be rationed based on a political comittee looking at actuarial tables. Treatments will be assigned by lookup up your age and condition on a spreadsheet to see if you are worth the “good” treatment or if you should just accept the fact that you only have a probablity of 10 years of life after treatment. Therefore, you’re not worth treating. If I want to spend my life savings for those extra 10 years of life, I should be able to & not have some politician tell me it’s not cost effective.

I cannot believe people actually want the federal gov in their lives…what is wrong with people? I live in IL, and this lady is shameful, do some research on her husband for starters…and she is no better.

old_and_wise   May 1st, 2009 - 2:19 pm

MDB – there are people who are working hard but cannot afford health insurance – it is very expensive for a large family. However, those people can be helped without destroying the parts of the system that is working well. I would much rather pay a little bit more in state taxes to buy insurance for those people than what the Dems are trying to do.

If you think health care is expensive now, wait until it’s free.

conserve 56   May 1st, 2009 - 2:26 pm

I have had my share of personal battles with my private health insurer (provided through my employer), but we always work out an equitable settlement. I still have a fair amount of choice.

With government run single payer, freedom of choice will disappear forever. Rationing will slowly but surely take over as this is the only way any cost control can be implemented. More doctors will quit and even fewer young people will bother to go through the rigorous requirements of medical school. What doctors we do have will be the least competent, willing to settle for the pittances paid by the government.

The problem is many do not foresee this coming. They think they will be getting “free” care. When they realize how lousy it is, they may start to protest. At that point it is too late. Then again many of the sheeple may already be conditioned to just settle for what they can get, no matter how lousy. What a shame America has reached this new low!!

AnnJo   May 1st, 2009 - 2:28 pm

Remember the “confidential” FBI files that made their way into Bill Clinton’s political war room at the White House? Under the Democrat/socialist plan for our health care, ALL of our most private information will be available to the government, and to any corrupt politician who happens to get in charge of it. Even if you like and trust Obama, are you sure there will never be another Nixon or Blago? Pick up the newspaper any day of hte week and read the “highly classified” information leaked by anonymous government sources, and don’t for a minute imagine your health information will be protected any better.

It’s funny how the Democrats were furious that under Bush, the government might listen in on Americans’ phone calls with international terrorists, but they think nothing of arranging to listen in on all American’s doctors’ visits.

If you have private health insurance now and claim to want socialized medicine, be up-front with yourself. Don’t delude yourself that YOUR health care will improve. It will not. Maybe the health care of the poor will improve somewhat, but you will pay the price in the lowering of your own quality of care and, sooner or later, openly or covertly, also in much higher overall health care costs. Are you willing to die months or years before your time, just so that the drug users who visit hospital ERs twice a week seeking a fix will have their care “insured”?

Remember who will be in charge of your health care if Obama succeeds:

The same efficient people who managed Katrina relief and run our immigration services.

The same honest and capable people who run the D.C. public school system, with its $15,000+ per student per year cost, its 75% below-proficient reading scores and its indicted union officials.

The same sensitive, caring souls who run the IRS, EPA, FDA, BATF and brought you Waco.

The same high-integrity people who ran Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac – into the ground along with the U.S. credit and housing markets.

The same kinds of people as those who handle Pentagon procurement or contract negotiations with Halliburton.

The kind of individual this Congresswoman is married to, a convicted crook.

This assault on our liberties, our privacy and our very lives is going to be a disaster for our country and a death sentence or a sentence to months or years of pain and disability for many of the same individuals who are right now cheering to bring it on. Sheep being led to the shearing.

Why do congress people who are for single payer health insurance never talk about the negatives? Do people REALLY want to give up what we now have in America for rationed care?!

Kirk6   May 1st, 2009 - 2:31 pm

I have had private insurance all of my life and adminstrative problems are rare. My experience with government entities, however, have been less than satisfactory as often as not.

The popularity of single payer is not about paying for insurance, it is about having someone else pay for insurance.

Give it a trial run in Chicago and see how it works! That way, Chicago can add another thing to it’s already impressive list of disasters.

1. Highest city tax rate in the US
2. Worst State run Pension plan – 44 BILLION in debt
3. More “murders” last year than the entire Iraq war.

Let’s chalk up #4 for Chicago!

Not good enough that we pay these people’s mortgage . Now , obama , wants to punish the doctors for their hard work. Put insurance companies and employees out of work . Why ? So, some lazy MF can sit on their butt and have responsible hard working middle class pay for it. Reparations? You betcha!Minorities and illegals are in love with obama, as well as some very dubm@ss libs, that are stupid enough to be idotwashed with this.

I think insurance companies suck. But, I am tired of paying for “Tyrones” needs. He needs to get a job.

This is one of the most arrogant and stupid women I have ever heard speak and it is hard to beat Pelosi. Does Chicago elect anyone but marxists, socialists or fascists? A lot of good it has done Chicago, eh? What a bastion of hope for the rest of the nation – or should I say the armpit of the midwest?

I guess I will just keep working hard for my own family and wait for the brownshirts to show up at my door and steal from me to give to the losers and the unions.

I had the unfortunate experience to work for a company owned by a Chicago retailer (the only company that could not make money in the 90’s, if that is possible) and the “Chicago way” was evident everywhere. The “Chicago way” was so ineffective, it sent three previously profitable companies into Chapter 11 – ideology was more important than solid business practice, overcontrol more important than leadership. Now I watch as the “Chicago way” gets shoved down the throats of hard-working Americans and I see America also headed to bankruptcy.

RE: “The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism,’ they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”
- Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

Problem with that is we already are. Here are some programs that would be considered socialist programs and that have been this way for years:
Post Office
Fire/Police Departments
Library
Oh, and I forgot – the US Military along with the Defense Department.

It all comes out of the same slosh fund that we pay for. I’m not totally for government-run health care but the system in place now needs to be revamped.

People in England pay a 17% national value added tax to get healtcare. That is all it takes here if you are willing to give up that much of your income in sales taxes. It is called the VAT. Value Added Tax in England.

amerbkr   May 1st, 2009 - 2:52 pm

There is too much negative, slanted press coming from the mainstream media (ABC, NBC, CBS) as well as GE’s MSNBC, so lets do something about it. Consumers have the power to sway the news organizations by threatening to boycott the products of the companies that sponsor these networks. If the sponsors fear a decrease in sales (especially now), they will put pressure on the networks. The networks are in very poor financial shape, so this economic weapon is a viable and strong one. The tea parties garnered attention, now our actions are required to get results. Spread this concept around, and lets see what it produces.

Why do people keep electing these brainless idiots to represent them. Surely they do not truly represent the populus of their area???
The government can not run itself effectively. They are ruining (or paying off the unions and others) the car industry, the banking and financial industries. Now going after medical and other insurance. AND THEY WANT TO PROSECUTE BUSH AND COMPANY!!! We need to stop them now!!!

It seems that putting the private health insurance industry out of business would conflict with Obama’s platform of job creation. So which will it be because he can’t have both?

Miguel   May 1st, 2009 - 3:01 pm

As a Kennedy democrat who’s seen people like this woman destroy our California economy, I say out loud that this woman is insane! Our family friend from England came back for her last visit to us before she died and told me in no uncertain terms, “Miguel, Never grow old in England!” Brit “universal healthcare” had refused her, her life-giving drugs which in America she would have received. She was “TOO OLD” they told her. She was an absolutely beautiful 55 years of age! They relented at the end, as she was in local government over there, and finally gave her the drugs one week before she died. This Illinois democrat is a full-scale idiot working hard to gain her lemming following among the troglidytes we can hear cheering on the burning of witches.

Over there it’s free care but it’s not enough and too late and the old get to die and the docs, I’m told are under-paid and want to leave. This makes Brit healthcare and ugle mess for all. Plato warned us about people like these democrats.

Todd   May 1st, 2009 - 3:02 pm

This is all planned

By 2010 the Gov will have at a minimum 25% of the nations industry in their pockets.

They will start passing laws to make it very hard, if not impossible for anyone to use any free market service and instead out right demand or make it financially untenable not to use thiers.

Want a car? Better buy a Italiochryslerobamamockerclowncar, if you do you get a tax deduction, if you dont you pay a penalty, get audited. I also suspect that Toyota etc. will suddenly become “Unsafe” to drive etc.

Free Market Health care? Sure you can pay double, but you will be forced to get clearance from the health care czar MsLikesToKillPeople

Open a bank account? Of course, note that the First Bank of Obama pays 1% on savings and charges 20% for a credit card, any other bank, well your going to get audited and you must pay a un-distributed profit tax every quarter.

This is so out in the open and brazen with the banks and the car companies, next is health care, and I suspect the oil companies will follow after that.

By the times the Dem’s are done people who cant run a popcicle stand will be running out economy and that’s it folks, revolution 2.0, comming to a country near you real soon…

drzarkov   May 1st, 2009 - 3:06 pm

To get a sobering view of what’s in store under a Government-run health care system, just read Tom Daschle’s book. He says the solution to reducing health care costs is to do away with lifesaving and life extending medical measures. He flatly states that the elderly will have to stop expecting to receive extraordinary (read expensive) treatment and accept the finality of some medical pronouncements. Of course that could be extended to any gravely ill or injured people of any age – triage on a truly grand scale!

Organic & sustainable   May 1st, 2009 - 3:07 pm

As a small business owner (sole proprietor) I can only afford catastrophic health care. Therefore, IF I ever go to the doctor, I end up paying for everything. This last doctor I went to (for stress) “had to follow the rules of the insurance companies” and then proceeded to order bloodwork, scaring me into thinking I was either going to have a heart attack or brain tumor (he also ordered and MRI and x-rays, which I didn’t do. After paying for the past 15 years a premium that I had NEVER made a claim on, not drinking, not smoking, exercising, perfect weight, blood work came back perfectly normal and I got a $1200 bill. $400 for a doctor who took my pulse and looked down my throat and then $800 for bloodwork. I’m not rich. This is unpayable for me (on top of the $300 a month donation I make to Big Business every month) and so now I’m in collections. This is wrong. All I wanted was a renewal script for my Zoloft. I didn’t get it. The doctor said until I ran all these tests “his hands were tied.”

For those of you that want to be Europeeing, know this. I lived in Germany for a number of years. They pay 50% income tax plus a value added 28% tax added to everything they buy. When our gas is $2 a gallon, theirs is $7 (all taxes), they spend $2000 to get a drivers license and a coke will cost you $4 because it is bad for you. Their country is overrun by Muslims on welfare and everything is free for them. Guns are practically banned, but crime is high, especially muggings. The only thing they stand up against is the right to smoke cigaretes. The other countries are about the same way; you dont want to mimmick socialist europe.

Linda S   May 1st, 2009 - 3:10 pm

Here is what is going to happen to me if this shrill, unrelenting, my-way-or-the-highway Congresswoman is successful in instituting federal government health care:
1. Private health insurance companies will go out of business.
2. My husband and I will no longer have the excellent health insurance we have now.
3. Instead, some medically untrained bureaucrat in D.C. will deny senior citizens – like my husband and me – the health care we need because another D.C. bureaucrat will be setting new guidelines for who gets health care.
4. Federal health care will be rationed health care – and all of us will be paying for it whether we are the recipients or now.

JustTheFacts   May 1st, 2009 - 3:12 pm

If anyone believes that Government run Health Care is the answer you are critically stupid. Many things can be fixed (though not by the government)… BUT NO ONE CAN FIX STUPID!

Jason   May 1st, 2009 - 3:16 pm

There is one simple dynamic that will always prevent government run institutions from succeeding in the private industry….politics are #1 priority.

Whether its in the auto industry or the insurance industry…anytime there is a situation where an important business decision needs to be made that conflicts with political favor….the politics will take precident and bad business decisions will be made as a result.

Bad business decisions lead to a failing organization….which will require MORE tax money to make up for its inability to be profitable. The end result is a bleeding organization, that couldn’t otherwise stay afloat in the private market, is kept on life support through our tax dollars.

If there is a problem with upper management hoarding profits….then we need to put some tools in place to increase transparency of spending and some regulations to close accounting loopholes and magic….not take over the entire private sector.

Say what you want about profiteering…..business decisions will be made based on the preservation of the business….not the preservation of someone’s political position.

IraqWarVet   May 1st, 2009 - 3:16 pm

My question for Jan and all her erstwhile Champagne Socialist in CON-gress is, are you and your fellow misrepresentatives of the people going to have the same kind of insurance you are going to cram down our collective throats? Paul   May 1st, 2009 - 3:17 pm

Sat next to a woman from Canada on a plane ride to Las Vegas. She first thanked me for saving her husbands life (actually went back to coach to get him to introduce me and thank me). The drug company I worked for invented the drug that put his once terminal cancer into remission in 3 months. She also went on to tell me the horror stories just about her Canadian health experience and that of her sister. Starting with her, she tore her rotator cuff falling in the shower. She could not get a $250 ultrasound for 6 months. She finally paid out of pocket to get the imaging and then was put into the cue for surgery (another 3.5 month wait!). Her sister, diagnosed and Tx’ed for breast cancer, got another mamogram that showed spots on her only remaining breast about two years later. They refused to do a biopsy (despite her History) until she paid out of pocket some months later and after considerable worry. Yup, it was breast cancer. Think she can sue? Not on your life..it’s Canada!

So, next time a congresswoman talks like this don’t ask for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee! Good luck single payer lovers.

The other night at the press conference, Obama told his usual lies, including that “he did not want big government.” Oh yeah? Well, then, why does he want control over our health care, education, and energy. He is a communist.

And just wait till he gives amnesty to all the illegals and their families. We will all be sitting in clinics, taking numbers for our turns, like when we want something at the deli.

I also predict that senior citizens and those with chronic conditions will be considered not useful and not worth spending government money on their health care, so they will be given the choice of no treatment or assisted suicide.

Wow.

Stacy Phillips   May 1st, 2009 - 3:21 pm

This is shameful. My 4-year old son got a Kidney Transplant, and under Medicare ONE of his 4 medications, the only one Medicare will cover, costs me $125 as opposed to $40.00 if I run it through our PRIVATE insurance, Blue Cross Blue Shield. Medicare is SUPPOSED to cover all my son’s anti-rejection meds, but get this, the second medicine, prograf, they won’t cover. Do you know why? Because it has to be compounded. The dosage tablets come in 0.5 mg and 1.0 mg, and my son’s dose is 0.75 mg, twice a day. He is four, and the dose of this medication is so sensetive that 0.5 mg would put him into organ rejection, and 1.0 mg would cause kidney damage! But will Medicare cover it, even though they state they are supposed to cover his two anti-rejection drugs? NO. Let me tell you, people, we are swimming into dangerous waters. And I fully anticipate that things will only get worse when we allow the government to run healthcare like we allowed them to run the (now) bankrupt social security system. Greedy powerhungry votemongers.

We are back to British Royalty running this country – they’re just not British this time.

kmichaels   May 1st, 2009 - 3:31 pm

Seriously, and it is sad to say, but I see the need of another civil war fast approaching. It seems that the stupidity of man (usually some idiot leftists with too much power) always leads to the righteous having to beat their plows into swords in order to do a little house cleaning.

Leftists, marxists, socialists, communists, fascists, nazis, are all different labels applied to pretty much one type of person. That type that decides that they need to control more people in more aspects of their lives.

Obama, regardless of what label the slobbering left wishes to place upon him, is indeed and in action that sort of evil person.

Again, civil war is fast approaching. Mark my word.

Sick of It   May 1st, 2009 - 3:32 pm

I write this as I’m on the phone trying to work a plan to pay for my “excellent” health care. I found out that if I had not had insurance, my bill would be 30% cheaper, but because I had health insurance (which was $5000 deductible) I have to pay full price out of pocket. Don’t you think a FEW rules ought to be in place? I’m getting rooked on both sides.

JD   May 1st, 2009 - 3:35 pm

black fury: if you think that’s ironic, put some thought into the logical impossibility of your so-called ‘private sector monopoly’. In a truly free market no such thing can exist. When there’s a powerful government around though, companies lobby for special benefits and arrangements (hint: take a look into how most government regulation gets started), and the free market goes out the window. In fact, the legal use of arbitrary force is the only true source of monopoly power, and we know who holds the monopoly on that.

sandy w   May 1st, 2009 - 3:36 pm

I’m tired of trying to convince people this is the wrong path we are taking, they will not listen, they think this is the cure all, to let the government run the health industry and all the other industries out there.
So I hope they get what they want,EVERYTHING, lets go to a socialist country,I will survive it I’m used to living on little to nothing but I’m happy and healthy.
This country and the idiots that voted for this administration needs to learn a hard lesson its called tough love! and believe me they won’t like it once they get what they asked for, but by then it will be to late to turn it back.

So can someone explain to me what we will do with the unemployment that will come about due to the government takeover of the healthcare industry? How many insurance companies will go bankrupt? how many jobs will be lost?

Another effort by dems to increase the voting base by eliminating private sector and increasing the government workers that are beholden to them.

Freedom From Government   May 1st, 2009 - 3:38 pm

Freedom from government made this country great? Freedom from government created the corporate greed and jobs sent overseas. Tax breaks for companies that didn’t expand here in the U.S. and sent jobs over seas. Great. Government. For the people — the rich ones.

Randy   May 1st, 2009 - 3:40 pm

I have a friend I talked with last night who recently got a job working for the Dept of Commerce working on the 2010 census. She told me she sits around the entire day waiting for assignments and when she finally gets one it takes about 20 minutes. She also mentioned no one, including her supervisor and their supervisor’s know what they should be doing. And we want these people determining who gets care, how much care, and where you get it.

I hope all you fool’s who voted for these people get sick and those who didn’t stay healthy. Of course this B$%#@h doesn’t have to worry because you can bet her health care won’t be the same as the rest of ours.

RightStuff   May 1st, 2009 - 3:40 pm

This lady Smackowski is an idiot. Our elected officials in Washington DC NEVER consider stage 2 or stage 3 of any garbage they pass. Of course not. They will never be held accountable. Look at Barny Frank and Chris Dodd. They should be in prison. This lady should be tried for treason, and place in there with Barney and Chris!

Mhu Cao   May 1st, 2009 - 3:41 pm

Another socialist beast following the Pelosi-Reid-Obama blueprint for a health care pogrom. Those of you who rant that private health care has failed are delusional. Do you think any fewer people will fall through the cracks with nationalization? Do you really believe that you will get a second shot at treating your cancer? Or receive optimal therapy instead of what some committee deems cost-effective? How about the wait for doctors? There will be far fewer of them. Trust me.

Chaz   May 1st, 2009 - 3:41 pm

They have done such a wonderful job with the Housing Crisis,The Bail outs.Lets just look at the Goverment fat Bloated out of control spending. How in the heck our they going to do in the health system ,give me a break….We have a Nursing shortage now I know of pre-med students that will drop out if we go this way.Let alone the Doctors that will go into other fields.I guess the left is just hell bent,on taking over everything and you know they know better on running everything.Excuse me but this politition makes me want to vomit.Keep the change Please

TrickyDick   May 1st, 2009 - 3:43 pm

Isn’t socialism supposed to destroy private industry?

Ralph   May 1st, 2009 - 3:45 pm

Write your representatives, instead of writing it here.

If your rep is against the reforms, they will be happy to hear your support. If they are for the reforms, you’ll need to let them know that not all of their consituents are for Gov. Health Care.

Been in the Army, if that’s an indication of the level of care, , well. Write your reps.

kmichaels   May 1st, 2009 - 3:46 pm

What social medicine does is pretty straightforward, instead of having great health care for most people you end up with crappy health care for most people. Others still end up falling through the cracks and end up with little or no health care. We have seen this very thing in other countries. Those social health care countries do not provide health care for all, as is the intended goal. What they do is put people on waiting lists or simple deny the treatment. The end result is the treatment ends up not happening and or more people end up with sub par treatment. Social healthcare fails time and time again.

Why can’t liberals understand that freedom from government is what made this country great?

Donald   May 1st, 2009 - 3:51 pm

Some people understand the terrible economic implications. Fewer people realize how horrendous the quality of a government-run health care system becomes. We see this in the deterioriation of quality under Medicare already. We see this in Canada, England and Sweden. Innovation and creativity on the part of doctors and other health care providers is stifled in a government system.

I laugh and cry at this idiot woman. I’m soooo sure that the govy will make their NEW RAW DEAL HEALTH CARE PLAN work as well as they did the Post Office, Social Security and ANYTHING else they’ve touched.

I’m just glad my hubby and I have money so we can pay to get taken care of–MONEY STILL TALKS AND IT WILL WHEN THIS BS PLAN COMES INTO EFFECT! I ALMOST feel sorry for the fools in this country WHO voted for Huggie Bear the Pimp President to the American TAX PAYER ; who think HE’S going to give them ‘FREE HEALTH CARE” or a better plan than they have now-LOL You’ll drop dead IF the govy gets ahold of YOUR health care plan–BANK ON THAT FACT!

I never thought this thought before but I am looking to leave the USA for a better place. My family have fought in every war since the French and Indian wars to have our freedom and in just 3 or 4 administrations all and I mean all my liberties will be striped away. I receintly found out while flying to visit a dieing friend that I am on a government black list and was detained until I missed my flight. The loonies are taking over and it will not be pretty.

steve   May 1st, 2009 - 3:59 pm

the honorable congresswoman is all in favor of eliminating private health insurance, but of course she will not have to be treated like her constituents, she will have private coverage as a member of congress. if people think we have a two tier system now wait to see what it will be like when we have a nationalized program. the wealthy can pay cash for routine care and will get preferred treatment for specialized care, the poor will wait, until death. i’m sure the congresswoman is wealthy enough not to have to worry about getting her hands dirty at a public health center. think of the service you get at state and municiple offices now, national health care will be worse.

Dr B   May 1st, 2009 - 4:02 pm

As a physician I am at “ground zero” for this advance into socialism. The models the socialists favor like in Canada and the UK have miserable quality. One overlooked problem is that people may believe that it is ok to go this route becausue those with money will still be able to “buy” quality care and insurance on their own. These people do not realize that this may not be “allowed”under a US NHS.

I have been told by a UK doc that in the UK you could not find a private pay physician for many years. It is only until fairly recently private pay has been available. And in Canada you can go outside the system, but there are still caps and regs on the entire healthcare field making it less competitive and therefore lower in quality.

The answer needs to be private health care to individuals not by employers. This will make the field more competitive and maintain high levels of quality.

The system needs reform and tweaking, but don’t kill the world’s best and most innovative system.

The socialists say they are for a better system, but in reality their cause is strictly control of 1/7 of our economy. They already own education, banking, auto and health care is next.

Principled Americans need to stand up and “Just Say No” to socialism.

Rampant Corruption   May 1st, 2009 - 4:05 pm

The AMA, which positively owns both political parties, has implemented truly extraordinary and absurd barriers to entry into the medical field. The AMA is the most successful monopolist in the history of the United States, and has forced us to import thousands of doctors every year from around the world. Why aren’t we building and expanding medical schools? Oh, of course: An artificial shortage guarantees excessive profitability! That’s what monopoly power is all about! Good luck finding a single Congressman who has the courage to admit this.

ironpoor   May 1st, 2009 - 4:06 pm

I Already have a single payer For health insurance. And so far it has been working just fine. Why should I switch?
The same old reason. Somebody else needs something so that means I now have to do something. Like subsidize their needs, fill out more paperwork, pay more taxes, switch insurers.
Once again the “pro choice” people are making sure you have one less choice to make.
I say government out of out wombs, lungs stomachs, prostate and above all else : colons.

Health care industry took a hit with the advent of medicare thank you lyndon johnson. We have the best healthcare system on Earth, is it perfect no, but better then others.

When has anything ran by the government succeeded except for the military (the libs want to destroy)

for the 3 million american Citizens without healthcare not by their choice we can not change our entire system.

Look at swin e flu, Mexico has deaths because they have socialized medicine. A 5 year old had to wait for care.

Now all those that said the government failed in Katrina well it will be the same government deciding what care you get.

Obama already stated old people should not get the same care they get now, it needs to be rationed.

Also it is UN-Constitutional!

Chris   May 1st, 2009 - 4:22 pm

It is truly a sad day in America when our bloated and intrusive govt. sets out to destroy private industry! I agree that the insurance companies have been screwing us for awhile; however our govt. has been screwing us for much longer with no form of recourse other than our vote. You can always change from one insurer for another. More govt. involvement is never the solution. Usually it’s the root of the problem.

Osamas Pajamas   May 1st, 2009 - 4:22 pm

“DEM CONGRESSWOMAN ADMITS OBAMA HEALTH CARE PLAN WILL DESTROY PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE INDUSTRY”

Democrat Rep Jan Schakowsky is a stupid, evil, mean-spriited woman. It would be better to destroy her and OhBummer’s gang of predatory humanitarians than to let them destroy the American healthcare system and insurance companies —- while they are pretending that they are “making a gift to the American people” with their socialized medicine scheme touted as “single-payer” and “universal.” Cheap liars. Frauds. Swindlers.

So how to “destroy” Schakowsky and the OhBummer gang? Nothing for the Secret Service to get their nose into — nor Fat Janet’s fat nose at Homeland Security.

I’m talking about an incessant barrage of dissent —- aimed at these creeps —- and also media like ABC, who yesterday tried to arrange the assassination of advisors to the DOD on the subject of waterboarding, by publishing their names and photos and contact info. Is it time to waterboard the folks at ABC? And when can I start doing that?

The Demos have an easy racket. You do the work, and they lie to you and they steal your money — in taxes and in government-planned inflation of the supply of currency. It’s time to complicate things for these bloody hijackers.

Hypocrite!

Craig   May 1st, 2009 - 4:30 pm

I hope she is right. These health insurance companies are the biggest part of the health care problem. My rates have more than doubled in the last 2 years. Why? Because I switched from a group employer plan to an individual policy and I recently turned 50. No change in health or anything (which is very good for my age), I simply changed plans and had a birthday. These insurance companies are all like AIG – vicious, greedy pigs.

Towdog   May 1st, 2009 - 4:35 pm

Anyone ever hear of AMTRACK? Washington can’t even run a passenger rail service, let alone universal health care. God help us if they succeed.

cclezel   May 1st, 2009 - 4:36 pm

So let me get this straight. This government which has borrowed from Social Security and has ran it into the ground now thinks they can do the work of our own prvivate system? So anyone who thinks they can run this tell me why because as it stands today in 30 years we will be liable for over 110 trillion dollars in unfunded liablity called Social Security and Medicare. Does this sound like an efficiently ran government program to anyone? How can we trust them with our lives to run a health care system?

America…Saul Alinsky Obama’s definition of change is…DESTROY!

We have the best healthcare in the world! In the world, America! People from all over the world come here to America to get healthcare they cannot get in their own countries…because it is not available in their countries!

We need a “tweeking” of our system…there are blindspots and holes in our system…but it does not have to be destroyed and overhauled with the socialist universal healthcare that Saul Alinsky Obama and his Democratzi want.

DocGO   May 1st, 2009 - 4:41 pm

Having practiced for 45 yrs., I can tell you that we already have socialized medicine. Our fees are regulated, we are limited as to what medications we are allowed to prescribe, what diagnostic tests, procedures, therapeutic modalities we can use etc. by government and private insurers. Regrettably, there is no solution to this dilemma, certainly not government control! As long as advances in technology, medications etc. continue to outpace our ability to pay for them, we are left with having to make economic decisions that require someone to play G_d and decide who lives, and for how long, and who dies or suffers. None of these decisions are necessarily based on logical parameters. Many elderly or terminally ill people spend most of their medical expenses in the last days of their lives in a sometimes futile effort to stay alive, despite total lack of quality of life remaining, or whether they still contribute anything to society. On the other hand, I am 71 and still working full time, and just recently had bilateral hip replacements. I would guess that if the government were making medical decisions, I would be in a wheelchair and not still paying taxes!

So_Cal_Mark   May 1st, 2009 - 4:42 pm

Not to be paranoid but if this mistake of socialized healthcare becomes reality, we conservatives should be on the lookout to make sure that a disproportionate amount of us aren’t being killed by government doctors…

Gov caused it   May 1st, 2009 - 4:42 pm

About 50% of money spent on health care is used for medicare/medicaid which doesn’t pay the full cost of the care the patients receive. The shortfall is charged by hospitals and physicians to the private insurance. So now what???

DA BEARRRS   May 1st, 2009 - 4:43 pm

The socialists in congress and White House should proudly stand up and be forthright about their love of socialism. I do not say that to demean, but let the American people decide what they want.

Dan   May 1st, 2009 - 5:03 pm

Are you all retarded ?

Look at this typical Comment..

“I love my private health care company. Sure it costs a lot, but if I get really sick they pay almost %90. A friend of mine just survived a bad bout of cancer. Chemo, operation, radiation. The hospital and Doctor bill came to a MILLION Dollars. He paid a $300 dollar co-pay.

If he had lived in Canada or England, he would be dead.”

Who the H do you think paid that other $999,700

our Health Care is already subsidized..our Health Care is alreadt socialize.. are you all stupid..

Not 1 Middle Class American Family could pay their health care costs if they had to REALLY pay for it
Any of you rednecks that dont want socialism drop your health care today then..I am tired of contributing to your health care cost when you are so stupid to realize I (we) are paying “your” way as well

Oregon Health Plan   May 1st, 2009 - 5:03 pm

In Oregon we have a state run health plan and I will share a story that will be the norm when we have ObamaCare. There was a man in Oregon on the Oregon health plan who had a type of cancer that only gave him a 5% chance of survival with treatment. This man wanted to fight for his life but received a letter (he shared with the media) from the Oregon health plan that said he could not have the treatment because of the cost vs. the potential outcome of only 5% survival. But here comes the good news. They informed him that although he could not get the treatment he did qualify for state paid doctor assisted suicide.

Jared   May 1st, 2009 - 5:07 pm

Funny how the public health care ‘option’ can only ’succeed’ if the other options are eliminated!

JC   May 1st, 2009 - 5:09 pm

Amazing that people cheer this speech. It is difficult to fathom. Anyone familiar with the difficulties of Canadians or Brits attempting to utilize their socialized medical systems cannot possibly look forward to that catastrophe being forced upon us here.

And of course, the politicians who vote this garbage in and impose it upon us will have their own separate and superior care. They have truly (d)evolved into Soviet-style party nomenklatura.

Here’s to your Socialist revolution, Marxists.

Shawn   May 1st, 2009 - 5:11 pm

I’m quite certain that the “elites” won’t have to use the same system that they want to impose on the rest of us. They will still get the very best care and the greatest “retirement” package ever conceived by man.

Kevin   May 1st, 2009 - 5:12 pm

At last, one of those socialist dems finally admits what conservatives have known for years: The Left wants government to control your life, and will stop at nothing and use any means necessary to get it.

David   May 1st, 2009 - 5:14 pm

Ofcourse a public health care option will be great…after all just look at how good the government runs all of its programs into the ground….LOL public health care will be the biggest joke on the American people ever. Just ask Liam Neison if he thinks that the Canadian public health care system was great when his wife needed an mri that the public system denied. In the USA that procedure is standard on head injuries. I wonder how many more people will die in the USA when it switches.

billbrady   May 1st, 2009 - 5:16 pm

If this doesn’t chill you to the core, nothing will. Here’s another socialist absolutely euphoric about the Nationalization of another private sector industry. These people have already Nationalized the finance industry and the automobile industry. I think the next thing we need to do is Nationalize both print and broadcast news. Why not. Most print and broadcast media is already in the bag for Obama’s socialism. We might as well take the last step and tell them what they can print and broadcast ! ! ! ! ! Terrifying folks, simply terrifying. And………..where are the conservatives ? ? ? Under a rock sucking their thumbs ! ! !

ClearRevelation, your first idea about writing off lost funds would have saved me 9 years ago. I ran a primary care office that initially did well in the 90’s but as time wore on my income dropped to a school teachers level(less than a principal) and i was working 80-100 hrs a week while not really seeing my family. the amount of money in non-paid insurance claims, charity for the poor, and non-paid bills in general exceeded the amount collected. i quit and became a specialist, now i work 40 hours a week and make more than i ever did. had i been able to write off the bad debt i could have made it all work. when i left 2500-3000 patients there were at least 1000 letters of thanks for the years of hard work and sacrifice but i also know that many lives were hurt since 25% of my practice was pro bono. in the end though, i know the work was killing me slowly and i feel very blessed to be where i am now.

Mike D   May 1st, 2009 - 5:25 pm

PLEASE PEOPLE….
Sho me ONE government program that is run efficiently (military doesn’t count…they are the last resort)…. and I will back the government taking over another area of our lives!!!

You can bet the congress, senate, Federal Judges, and the Executive Branch will not be a part of the “National Health Care System”, just like they are not part of any other governmental program except the ones thay have created for themselves that exclude all other citizens!!!!

miker   May 1st, 2009 - 5:28 pm

So much misinformation out there… Health insurers finance health care, they don’t cause it! The escalating costs are driven by several factors but it is not greed on the insurers part.

sam   May 1st, 2009 - 5:28 pm

What a pathetic whiney loser!

rAT   May 1st, 2009 - 5:33 pm

I own and operate a single practitioner primary care medical clinic that serves about 1800 patients. The moment I can no longer privately provide care for patients is the last day I will practice medicine. Single payer amounts to “indentured servitude” under the constitution. I will never be a government slave.

Maybe I will become a marijuana farmer. I would rather do that or set up an internet porn site than work for the government. At least that won’t offend the libterds like free enterprise seems to.

Time for every concerned person who values their freedoms to send a small piece of rope to their congressterds with a reminder that the rest of that rope, along with your horse and oak tree are waiting at home for them to return.

Happy trails……giddyup! (slap on horse rump) Enjoy the dance, libturd!

RadicalCitizen   May 1st, 2009 - 5:36 pm

And these mental midgets said that the Bush Administration was “taking away our freedoms”!

I would like for this broad to socialize the legal profession in the exact same image, with the exact same words, as they want for health care! But the various lawyers associations back Demokrats, so it won’t happen.

Don’t we all have the “right” to legal representation?

Michelle   May 1st, 2009 - 5:38 pm

I have lived in England, and believe me you don’t want single-payer healthcare. I saw people die who would have been saved in this country. The waiting list was unbelievable, and the care of the elderly was strictly rationed. Britain now has a two-tiered system because even with rationing, the single-payer system was unworkable.

Flyoverman   May 1st, 2009 - 5:40 pm

Brett said “BTW, America has the biggest, best and cheapest postal system in the usa.”

Brett, Since there is only one postal system in the USA, you got that one right. The rest…nope.

Actually, France is re-privatizing their health care system, going back to what they had, because socialized medicine is a disaster.

BB   May 1st, 2009 - 5:42 pm

Do you think for one New York minute the Democratic politicians are going to be at the mercy of a federal health care system? Nooo, they will have their own, special private doctors taking special private care of them just like they send their kids to special private schools. So think hard the next time you vote for a Democrat (if you have anything left to think with that is).

Tim   May 1st, 2009 - 5:44 pm

Nothing is free. No country has free health care. It is paid for through taxes. Why does everyone think that if it is run by the government, then all the costs suddenly disappear? What will happen is rationed care, and reduced benefits. Here is an example. In England a rule was passed that you could not get treatment for macular degeneration until you went blind in one eye first. Enough complaining ended this rule, but you get what you pay for. Here is a thought to fix the health insurance problem overnight: Let anyone that wants to acquire the same insurance plan that is available to those up in Congress and pay the same premium that they pay. Voila, problem solved overnight. What will happen with socialized medicine is the well off will have elite private hospitals that they go to while the peon folk get stuck County General type service.

dr jay   May 1st, 2009 - 5:44 pm

REPEAL THE 16TH AMENDMENT.

miker, the spiraling costs of healthcare are indeed multi-factorial. lawyers(lawsuit fear), technology advancements, big pharma, government regulations, greedy healthcare providers of all types, and unrealistic patient expectations have all driven up the costs. i can unequivocally tell you that large insurance companies are also a part of the problem. i understand they are just shooting for profits also but i have seen and been subject to criminal behavior on their part. i have seen lives ruined by their decisions too.

Randy   May 1st, 2009 - 5:46 pm

To Rick asking if every Chicago politician is a Socialist, felon etc etc, She is not but her husband has spent time in jail for fraud, I believe it was. She is an idiot. But as our state usually votes democrat without knowing anything about the candidate she will most likely be our next Senator (taking over for that awesome Obama replacement Roland Burris)

Katy   May 1st, 2009 - 5:58 pm

I bet that if she and all the other congressmen had to use the Health Care Plan they are trying to force on us, the plan would be very, very different!

Why is it that this plan is good for us and not for them?

kmichaels   May 1st, 2009 - 5:58 pm

If dr jay is worried about corruption in private health care does he really expect corruption to be remotely less if the retards in congress decide to run it? Congress is substantially more corrupt and more self-centered than the average private company. You see, dr jay, companies cant be as corrupt as congress and get away with it for very long before losing money. But congress does not have those same concerns. Their concern is based on buying votes with somebody elses money. And they are not measured on how much money their company makes. A congress person can be the worst leader on earth (and often is) but does not get fired or removed like a private company would do for poor performance. If you dislike private company corruption then get ready for hell to be released if the idiots in congress decide to run it.

Jennifer   May 1st, 2009 - 6:05 pm

The banks, the auto industry and all its suppliers…and now the insurance industry. Hmmm, what can we destroy next…..education?
The government has failed miserably at every “business” they’ve tried to run. The post office, the IRS, Fannie/Freddie, etc., why would we possibly think they would be capable of running healthcare? I’m currently in healthcare. Ask a physician if they would enter the field today? When you have physicians who are asked to work inordinate hours, and nowadays, for ordinary pay, everything suffers. The service, the office staff, the record keeping, etc., it ALL suffers. Think you’re waiting long for an appointment now?

dr jay   May 1st, 2009 - 6:06 pm

BTW, there is no real answer to healthcare. the first law of economics is that there is a finite amount of resources and choices/sacrifices need to be made(witness the oregon health plans death letter to the cancer patient). the first law of politics is to forget the first law of economics.

The crisis will boil down to what we do about the elderly and those in poor health. there is not enough money to adequately provide everything to everyone forever. if we do everything to prolong lives for a few years then we are going to mortgage our grandchildrens financial future to the chinese and even then the money will run out. tom daschle put some items in his healthcare bill that were controversial to say the least. now i hate tom daschle but the issue is quite real. does our government(therefore we the people) pay for a 90 year old to get dialysis or total cardiac work on a 95 year old. do we pay for years of nursing homes for the baby boomers.
i have no real answers to these dilemmas but i can tell you all for certain that rationing elder care in the future will be a reality. rationing of all healthcare as well under a national system is unfortunately mandatory and it is going to stink.

Good Luck   May 1st, 2009 - 6:13 pm

Good luck on continuing to have a healthcare system in America if we go to a one-payer system. I will provide healthcare services in my practice on a “cash only” basis before I will become a drone working for the government. I can live on very little income. My personal liberty is more important to me than my prosperity. I have no intention of becoming a slave to the State.

Yes, they will be converting postal vans to ambulances (or hearses)and there will be two lines at the post office one for stamps the other for healthcare. Single payer simple means you will be taxed for your share of healthcare, the uninsured or underinsured share of healthcare, Congresses’ share of healhcare, etc. The government will than contract it all out to the insurance companies, HMOs, and probably Haliburton and Senator Feinsteins’ husband. I understand what Dr. Jay is saying as I manage medical practices, however, the fact is if you think getting paid by insurance companies is tough wait until you have to deal with a government contractor. Medicare reently switched it’s payment contractor and they were so slow in processing and paying claims their were doctors that actually went out of business as they exhausted all their financial resource trying to stay open.

The irony of all this is Congress will continue to get their top-shelf healthcare at taxpayer expense regardless of what they give to the American people for taking their tax money.

I DO NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH MEDICARE OR MY SUPPLEMENT INS. I PAY SOME AND THEY PAY SOME. NOW IF WE GER THE “PROPHETS’ SOCIALIZED MEDICINE I WILL BE TOLD IT IS MY TIME TO DIE AND THERE WILL BE NO MEDICAL TREATMENT OF ANY KIND OTHER THAN COMFORT MAYBE. THIS TREATMENT IS RECOMMENDED BY TOM DASHLE FOR THE ELDERLY .I HAVE TRAVELED THE WORLD AND SEEN SOCIALIZED MEDICINE FIRST HAND IN OTHER COUNTRIES WHERE PEOPLE DIE BEFORE THEY CAN GET A DRS. OR DENTIST. APPT, THEY COME TO THE U.S.FOR TREATMENT IF THEY HAVE THE MONEY,BUT THEY MUST PAY FOR TREATMENT THEMSELVES. SOCIALIZED MEDICINE IS GOOD FOR THOSE ON THE DOLE AND THE ILLEGAL ALIEN . THE GOVT. COULD PROVIDE INS. FOR PEOPLE FOR A SMALL PREMIUM NOT JUST GIVE IT AWAY TO BE ABUSED LIKE WELARE AND FOODSTAMPS.

Jay   May 1st, 2009 - 6:28 pm

I happen to like my private health insurance very much.
Why do you want to take that option and the great service I recieve away by dictating government run “health care”?

The government is increasingly taking options for citizens away and replacing them with their own dictated “options”. That is not liberty.

K   May 1st, 2009 - 6:29 pm

I have paid for my own insurance for years. I’m grateful to have the privilege to make quality medical care my 3rd priority – behind food and shelter.
Agree – wouldn’t an asteroid strike within the beltway not only take care of the problem at hand – but prove divine providence as well.
Now – I’ll be paying for 40M deadbeats that put everything they WANT in front of PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY – and having to pay more to get prompt treatment for hangnail, much less the rupture Achilles that rang up a $10,000 bill – but because I’ve paid in for years, only cost me $1500….
But I don’t have time to worry – too busy trying to make a living as a self employed person in a bad economy with WASHINGTON wanting to take more and more and more….and piss off those that create jobs for those that just pass through life from one sitcom to the next; 22 minutes of content and 8 minutes for beer/potty breaks…
God have mercy on us all…

Jeff   May 1st, 2009 - 6:31 pm

The problem isn’t that health insurance is unaffordable, it’s that health care in unaffordable. I challenge anyone to name one government-run program that is not a cesspool of waste and mismanagement. When the government is in charge of your healthcare, they will dictate whether you can drink alcohol, smoke, eat trans-fats, eat red meat, eats sweets, drink soda or anything else they deem unhealthy.

(1) Tort reform will bring health care costs down. (2) Hospitals should not be forced to treat illegal aliens who rarely pay anything for their healthcare.

We’re heading down a slippery slope.

Sylvia   May 1st, 2009 - 6:32 pm

Where’s that asteroid when we need it ??

This hemorrhoid with hair is typical of Congress…whose members have their own private Health Care.

Come on asteroid! Washington, DC is calling.

Truly LUCKY   May 1st, 2009 - 6:36 pm

I am so happy I was able to have my bypass surgery before the government takes this over and does to healthcare what it has done to every other program under the sun. I was never really lucky on most things in my life, but I guess I was lucky on the one that really counted.

Brandi   May 1st, 2009 - 6:38 pm

She is confident in government health care because she knows that even though it will be far inferior to the health care that American has now, she will be exempt from the system. Congressmen and Senators are exempt from Social Security. Does anyone think that they will put their health in the hands of a system run by them? Right! They know it will be awful, but it won’t hurt them as they will have private insurance, and it will buy them votes. They are getting close to having bought enough votes that America is finished.

I DO NOT want the government running healthcare. They will then have the right to tell you how to manage your health like how much to weigh. I can tell you if you are overweight, I don’t want to pay for your obesity problems. We will all lose personal rights over this. Then they will ration who gets what care based on age and history. Do you want to be rationed out because you’re too risky? How about your parents, grandparents? Wake up to the realities! We will all suffer over this.

Mitchell F.   May 1st, 2009 - 6:41 pm

Who do these people think is going to pay for this “universal healthcare”? They must think it is going to be another Obama handout. They could not be more wrong. They are going to pay for it with outrageous taxes. The only ones who will not pay are congressman and Obama administration appointess since they do not even pay their taxes now.

This sounds just like a democrat though, destroy, destroy, destroy without even considering the consequences. What a bunch of uninformed idiots. Clapping at the destruction of out health care system. They will be missing it when it is gone and they have to wait 9 months for a Dr.’s appointment.

I’m all for capitalism… but since when does profit come before every Americans’ right to affordable care? I can’t wait to see the insurance companies die. And no one is forcing them out of business. They just won’t be able to compete any longer.

the corruption and incompetence of the feds is incontrovertible and as their slimy tendrils advance to all areas of private enterprise you see the end of America’s greatness.

Democrats have a solid majority of both Houses. The deal is done.

British folks are pulling their own teeth because of lack of dental care. There was an account in a British newspaper about a woman who has to wait 2 years for treatment of breast cancer… She has teenage children.

Some kind a revolt must be near, or we go like sheep to the slaughter.

Paul   May 1st, 2009 - 7:00 pm

Communist? Socialist? Obama was elected by an overwhelming majority. So by your rationale the American people themselves are Socialists.

Dave   May 1st, 2009 - 7:11 pm

No one has a “right” to health insurance, health care, etc. Check the Constitution, you don’t have a right to “stuff”. The fact is, 80-85% of the US population have health insurance and excellent health care. The rest have access to health care, and whether or not they choose to pay for it is up to them (backruptcy is an option of last resort, which lets people start over). We can all forget about further innovations in health care with any kind of government-run or tinkered with system, and we can forget about choice. These types of systems, like in the UK, tell you what you can and can’t have in terms of procedures, and often are overwhelmed to the point that people wait years for procedures. The only thing that we could do here to make the system better is for the AMA to allow more people to enter medical school. Many highly-intelligent, well-qualified people are turned away because the AMA wants to keep doctor numbers low, and thus, their incomes high. If there were more doctors, then health care prices would have to come down because people would have more choices in terms of where to go to get health care.

Getting the the government involved will not fix health care!!!!!! Attacking insurance companies will not fix health care!!!!!!!

Smilinjack   May 1st, 2009 - 7:15 pm

He’s trying to make us all socialists Paul but, it wont happen. The middle ground folks will bury him in the next election. Him and the real president George Soros the puppetmaster.

After these fools have fouled things up possibly to the point of no return and the sane finally recover their country, will the military have to step in to forcibly remove them from office? I fear they will refuse to leave willingly. Perhaps we should behave as they do and start discussing the reeducation camps they will need to attend at that time and whether military firing squads would be to harsh for the worst of them.

Laurel   May 1st, 2009 - 7:26 pm

Wonder if those advocating for the Health Care Industry to go the way of the Dodo bird, are ready for the massive unemployment it will cause? Health Care needs to be removed from the hands of employers. Health Care also needs to be removed from government period. yes that’s right..say buh bye to Medicare, MedicAid, etc that sets the prices for the entire medical industry. Doctors also need to get competitive in their pricing and start posting them!!! Medicine is a science, but it is also a business. Compete!

Paul   May 1st, 2009 - 7:28 pm

Independents (middle ground folks)? They are moving toward Obama and the Democrats! People are fleeing the Republican party like it’s a sinking ship. I’m not sure the GOP will ever recover. Reality check anyone? The health care issue is a non-issue now. They have the votes and the support. Pick your battles. Republicans should be concentrating on growing their party instead of alienating every demographic imaginable apart from uneducated, white evangelicals in the south.

scott   May 1st, 2009 - 7:28 pm

This old hack needs to get sick in Canada and she how well she is taken care of. Anyone who believes we will have anything remotely close to the type of health care our beloved congresspeople get is a out and out idiot. Has anyone ever noticed how our Government runs anything? Is it ever efficient? How many committees and special sessions of congress will it take to even develop a plan. If you insist on paying for Plasma TV’s,Cell Phones, SUV’s, outlandish sized houses and then not buy insurance made available to you then its your issue. Nothing is free in this world, no one owes us anything. Since when do we just sit back and expect to be taken care of. Pitt-full land of the “its owed to me”.

Our country has been put in the hands of the democrats who will have no check and balance and will pass anything they want. Soon we will have another liberal Supreme Court justice who will knock down anything that is good for the citizens of this country. And no one should dare question anything this president says or does. We get what we vote for.

Joe Schmoe   May 1st, 2009 - 7:33 pm

Those of us from Chicago know Jan ‘Le Douche’ Schakowsky well. She’s another Chi-town socialist. When I was in college I attended a meeting that was supposed to be a presentation about Police Brutality that was hosted at my college one night. We signed a list upon arriving and were told the info would be used to notify us of future presentations at the school. We ended up going for drinks with one of the presenters afterward and it turned out the event was really being hosted by what he called the “International Socialist Organization”. I got spooked when he told us that ‘there will be blood in the streets’ and I have always remembered this as This man was a Hispanic professor from University of Chicago. Which is where of course our President was working along with the likes of Bill Ayers etc. So if there are any reasonable Democrats left out there I really do hope you can put aside your feelings to be intellectually honest with yourselves about who you’ve put in office. If you think that there is some grand conspiracy to paint Obama as a socialist you really should start by looking at the much clearer evidence along with his actions. It’s not about Bill Ayers and what he did 30 years ago. It’s about Obama and the polluted political environment here in Chicago. Is there anyone that currently attends U of Chi that is willing to share their own observations?

jen   May 1st, 2009 - 7:35 pm

I believe this is the clueless women who made disparaging remarks about the Tea Parties, which the liberals are still distorting. My brother-in-law and his family (wife originally from British Isles) moved back to the States BECAUSE the health care was terrible in England. They had to wait for days and sometimes a couple of weeks to see a doctor. Family Stateside had to mail them sinus medication because they could not just walk into a pharmacy and buy it without a prescription. Can you say CANADA and NATASHA RICHARDSON? Again, you want to make health care available to those without it at a VERY VERY HIGH PRICE to the rest of the country. That high price would be sacrificing the best health care anywhere in the world.

truspeek   May 1st, 2009 - 7:39 pm

This dimwitted congresswoman(?) is just another example of the lack of level headed thinking coming from the Obama/Congress dictatorship. If you make medical care government paid, EVERYONE will use it thinking it is free (Most probably won’t have to pay taxes cause they are Obama’s poor, so it will be) and there won’t be enough doctors and clinics to go around so what you get will be hasty and pasty. No cures in that except that it will empty your wallets through taxes.

There will be no quality and the youngest will get the most medical care because the older you are the more expendable you will be.

I DIDN’T VOTE FOR THIS MESS. GOOD LUCK ALL!

Tom   May 1st, 2009 - 7:40 pm

There is a much bigger issue here people..the Government has ZERO authority…repeat ZERO authority to go into the Healthcare business. The constitution defines their jobs very clearly and they are sworn to preserve, protect and defend the constitution, not to subvert ignore and destroy it. They take a LEGAL oath to do so, if they break it, they can be charged by you and me…no need for republicans or democrats to raise the case. there is a financial burden placed upon the hard working taxpayer, so legally it becomes a FELONY for them to take money from us to go into business they have no authority to be in. Folks this is that simple, let them know what their job descriptions are, let them know if they do this they are subverting the US Constitution by overreaching their authority and extorting money from hard working peoples so that others who screwed up can have healthcare..the vast majority of people who dont have healthcare are those people who screwed around at school when they should have been planning their lives and being productive members of society..we are to the point where 40% of the people DONT PAY any taxes, and they expect the 60% of us to pay for the lazy slubs who have screwed around their whole lives…BS….I’ll see them all in jail before i give them one damn cewnt. By the way if you take a legal oath of office and then break it, thats TREASON…that is why you take the oath to swear your allegiance to the country..when youbreak it you have subverted the country…you are then a traitor. Im tired of looking the other way while these crooks steal from us…its over…get the damn pitchforks sharpened!

This could very well be the tipping point a lot of people have been looking for. Employees and employers will have manditory withholdings to pay for this debacle.

We just need a little more of this kind of stuff, just a little……………more.

Careful what you wish for.

We have been infikltrated by Marxists and Socialists who subverted our political system, are playing on the ignorance of the masses and feeding that frenzy by creating more unemployed defeated people who will have no choice but seek a taxpayer handout from BIG Government. What they have DONE is utter Treason..they took a legal oath to preserve protect and defend the US Constitution and they have taken authority to do things they are NOT authorized to do..they have broken that oath and they are GUILTY …guilty of treason…thats why they have to take that oath…doesnt anything mena anything to you people anymore…have you all become defeated drones…you have the legal paperwork of our founders ON YOUR SIDE and your going to pick your battles???? What…ya you sit there and watch as we lose this nation for our kids, that brilliant,…the time for talk is OVER!

Folks look at Paul he is the stupidest person in the room, he drank the politicians coolaid and now has gone and turned on Big Health Insurance. Paul you obviously havent thought any of this through. Health Insurance companies provide a service, EMPLOY millions of people, have no authority over your personal life, and those people who work at these insurance companies spend their money on goods and services that other companies make and seel , employing millions of other people. Thats evil? How about this geniuis…a Government run healthcare system that now has your most private personal information, information that can control the type of job your qualified for, the loans you can get, where you can live etc…and they have the POWER to use it against you…moron…you think Government control is better than private industry control…what are you smoking your as brite as a blown bulb.

I have the misfortune of having Ms Shakowsky (AKA Mrs Creamer) as my congress person, She is the wife of a convicted felon who was stealing from a non profit for which she sat on the board. The adoring Chicago press of course made no mention of this. She is basically nothing but a stooge of Mrs Pelosi and the reverend Jackson. Basicaloly she is just on a monumetal ego trip. Anything to get her face some publicity.

Joe Mama   May 1st, 2009 - 8:20 pm

She is an unmitigated idiot. Folks like her in Government seem to forget that the “Law of Unintended Consequences” can occur when you try to do things in a vacuum or too quickly. If she would shut her mouth … and open her eyes and ears and SEE how her “beloved” socialized medicine works in other countries, she would MAYBE understand that her position is flawed.

BUT … WAIT? SHE won’t HAVE to deal with the system! She is part of the “ruling class” that have their own benefit programs in Congress so she would NEVER have to deal with getting sub par care with the unwashed masses she represents.

She’s the epitome of how the “party of the people” are nothing more than egotistical megalomaniacs who dream of being the ruling class!

Dennis K   May 1st, 2009 - 8:21 pm

Paul move to this congreswoman’s district. Politician’s over principle is what you are advocating. That is what has this country in a mess right now.

You are obviously naive and ignorant to political history. The GOP or the DEMs have been left for dead every 8 years so.

jbh50   May 1st, 2009 - 8:22 pm

The issue isn’t people without access to medical care, the issue is people without access to preventive care. Access to prevention has always been the issue….even way back before Hillary care. You don’t fix this by destroying a functioning system and running it like the govt runs the school system or runs SS administration. The expirement is available for us to study (in Canada and Europe) and it is a FAILURE.

More rantings like this and there won’t be a democrat left in Congress….

Animal Farm : We are all equal, but some are more equal than others.
Single payer system with different benefits for different groups paid by the same payer= congress/ White House folks will have different cover c/w rest of us.
The SENSIBLE solution is : HAVE A BASIC FAIRLY COMPREHENSIVE GOVT RUN/ PAID FOR PLAN (no Viagra on this) THAT COVERS ALL; THOSE WHO WNAT TO, OR WHOSE EMPLOYERS WISH TO CAN GET ADDITIONAL “PRIVATE INSURANCE” BY PAYING THE PREMIUM TO AN INSURANCE PLAN. This is what happens in the U.K.
The government cannot stop allowing private insurance carriers operating; they can regulate them. Human nature is such that in matters of health and wealth government rules can only go so far.

This is crazy…no way can the government get good healthcare to all Americans let along the 30 million illegals…doctors will quit, students will not go into the medical field and we are only going to get sicker…we lived in Canada and Europe..thats scarry healthcare, over 50 kiss healthcare goodbye, they want you to die. This will completely entrench not only the Federal government but the bloated unelected bureaucracy that cannot be voted out of office – ever. They can then do whatever the heck the want to us and we can’t do anything about it. Congratulations ya bunch of morons for voting these Marxists into power!

That’s the change, so much for hope.

Good luck with all of that.

The poorest illegal alien can get medical coverage in the US today that the richest American couldn’t get 20 years ago. The quality of care has increased exponentially because of innovation. Blocked artery? No problem quick cath find it drug stent and out the next morning and to work the next day. 20 years ago if you found it, OHS packed in ice, in for 3 weeks and back to work in 4 months, but you couldn’t drive. What sounds better? The problem is simple people expect coverage they haven’t earned, but thank goodness for rich people because they pay for innovative procedures that become inexpensive outpatient procedures in a few years time. Single payer would absolutely destroy the innovation curve and destroy medical coverage for all. Rich and poor. I understand you liberals have no conceptual clue of how free markets work and how to create wealth. So let me give you an easy example. Who had a cell phone in 1985? How good were they and how expensive were they? How many people have cell phones today? Just about every idiot can talk forever across the country for $99. That is wealth creation. The average life expectancy for a male in Russia is 54 years. That is what socialized medicine has done to a society? Move to Russia and die of TB if you want single pay. The Russians had technology and resources, their failure stems from Obmamaism aka Socialism. How many examples of the failure of Socialism for all (rich and poor) do you need? I’m sorry, the politicians live very well under Socialism. Hey Michelle how much are those shoes? Umm

I am an ex Army doctor. I have seen the inept fumbling of socialist medicine. It is poison.
Don’t do it America. It will be generations before good medical care can be restored. Just imagine power hungry Nazi types countermanding your doctors’ decision about the proper medical care for your wife or daughter. It WILL happen. It is the nature of “power corrupts” “absolute power corrupts absolutely”
Humans are like that. Keep the medical decisions in the control of your physician or suffer the consequence of frustration, delay, increased mortality or even untimely death based on bureaucracy. We know the post office is bad. The govt. can’t do anything else efficiently so why would the US govt do a better job than Europe, the Brits or the Canucks?

Jan is a symptom of a diseased society. She was democratically elected by her constituents but when your population is full of morons and idiots this is what you get. When you look at Jan you’re really looking at the makeup of society around you. I realized that I, as an educated white man from a middle-lower class background who worked his butt off to earn what I have, I am the minority. The people I see on the street, and on the el, they’re not like me. They don’t want to compete. They just want to steal what I have. They don’t want to stay past 5pm but they want my salary; they don’t want to work saturdays but they want lots of perks and benefits. They want a good job but they don’t want to borrow money and study hard to go to a good college. They want free health care to cure them of diabetes from eating fried chicken and mcdonalds hamburgers their whole life.

When a significant portion of the population is slime and scum trying to live off the government teet, they’re going to elect slime and scum like Jan.

Paula S   May 1st, 2009 - 9:31 pm

Here’s an idea… if Congress thinks “universal medicine” and the Federal government running medical care in the country is the solution, let’s demand that THEY lead the way and completely GIVE UP their current medical benefits. I want them to experience the wonder of “universal healthcare” up close and personal. While we are at it let’s DEMNAD they give up all their enefits. Why should the get the incredible pension and benefit deal after serving a term. After all is this pubic service, and don;t they serve for the love of their country. There is only one solution America LEAVE NO INCUMBENT STANDING!! Out they ALL go…

Dennis Sinclair   May 1st, 2009 - 9:50 pm

I continue to be amazed and in awe at the level of ignorance about how health insurance works. It is basically a contract between a health insurance company and an individual, family or group. Health insurance is among the MOST REGULATED industry in the country. Not evey insurance policy, i.e. contract covers everything (Including state mandates ((1,100 and counting)) a lot of them affecting a small number of people that all policyholders pay for. I have an individual policy a health Savings Account for myself and my fmaily. My deductible is $10,000.00 I pay for all doctor visits, routine exams, etc. and I )(Me, myself and I) negotiate and look for bargains (They’re out there) For instanc my last physical was a year or so ago. I called one medical group and was quoted $1625.00 for the exaM. I called another and they said they’d do it for me for $125.00 the same exam. I asked what both groups would do. They both agreed they’s do the same exam.

My daughter needed an exam for hockey. One doctor wanted $185.00 a nurse practitioner wnated $25.00 Both to fill out the smae form.

In one month I avoioded spending $650.00 which stayed in the savings part of the Health Savings Account.

I wish people would learn what they are ranting about before they rant. By the wya my policy provides 8 million in coverage per lifetime for each memebr of my family. Our state plan provides one million. Deninor

Yeah, we totally want that here in the United States. GROW A FREAKING BRAIN, PEOPLE!!!!

Vorenious   May 1st, 2009 - 10:50 pm

Until universal health is ran by the government, the elderly, the sick and the handicapped will be denied medical services as is done in other socialized medicine countries.

When the ill are considered to be “Not Cost Effective”, they will be offered two alternatives. The first is to have a government Doctor of Death come to the home to administer a lethal dosage of meds to terminate the lives of the ill, elderly and disabled.

Second option, will be for the ill, elderly and handicap to live with their medical difficulties until they die of their illness. That is how socialized medicine is practice overseas, nickels and dimes will only matter to the government if they run the program, no different than all the other countries!

dr jay   May 1st, 2009 - 10:56 pm

This is my answer to the question posed by anthony1964: ” Who is John Galt?”

We all hear about the need to protect patients’ so-called “right” to health care. But we don’t hear about protecting the rights of the doctors or the doctor-patient relationship. This issue is eloquently summarized by Dr. Thomas Hendricks, one of the characters in Ayn Rand’s novel, Atlas Shrugged:

‘Do you know what it takes to perform a brain operation? Do you know the kind of skill it demands, and the years of passionate, merciless, excruciating devotion that go to acquire that skill? That was what I would not place at the disposal of men whose sole qualification to rule me was their capacity to spout the fraudulent generalities that got them elected to the privilege of enforcing their wishes at the point of a gun. I would not let them dictate the purpose for which my years of study had been spent, or the conditions of my work, or my choice of patients, or the amount of my reward. I observed that in all the discussions that preceded the enslavement of medicine, men discussed everything–except the desires of the doctors. Men considered only the “welfare” of the patients, with no thought for those who were to provide it. That a doctor should have any right, desire or choice in the matter, was regarded as irrelevant selfishness; his is not to choose, they said, only “to serve.” . . . I have often wondered at the smugness with which people assert their right to enslave me, to control my work, to force my will, to violate my conscience, to stifle my mind–yet what is it that they expect to depend on, when they lie on an operating table under my hands?’

We need to protect the rights of doctors and patients to trade on a free market to mutual benefit, Otherwise we will see more and more doctors silently shrugging off the burdens of being controlled by collectivists.

Rizz   May 1st, 2009 - 10:56 pm

Well, Axshulllly, if you have your own dough, then you will be able to afford decent health care if this passes. It is only those who can’t that will be subjected to subpar treatment. Nice, huh? The two rules for government controlled medicine are easy. 1) Don’t get sick, 2) Don’t get old.

And always remember the motto of the new regime:

my favorite quote from that willowtown site. thought crimes are here and gun ownership crimes are coming too.

“There is no way to rule innocent men. The only power government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws.” — Ayn Rand in her must-read novel, Atlas Shrugged

dr jay   May 2nd, 2009 - 1:44 pm

“As I have stood in the crosshairs of those who target Second Amendment freedoms, I’ve realized that firearms are not the only issue. No, it’s much, much bigger than that. I’ve come to understand that a cultural war is raging across our land, in which, with Orwellian fervor, certain acceptable thoughts and speech are mandated.” — Charlton Heston (1924- ) American actor, former president of National Rifle Association

“Some of the worst abuses of government force in recent years were precipitated by technical and victimless gun-law violations. For example, the BATF claimed that the Branch Davidians possessed machine guns without paying the required federal tax and filling in the proper registration forms. So a tax case worth less than $10,000 led to a 76-man helicopter, machine gun, and grenade assault on a home in which 2/3 of the occupants were women and children.” — Dave Kopel and Dr. Michael S. Brown, Prohibition Fever, NationalReview.com

GROW UP, STOP WHINING, & GET A GOOD PRIVATE INSURER   May 2nd, 2009 - 5:15 pm

People who are *itching about their unsatisfactory PRIVATE health insurance should be looking to FIND A BETTER PRIVATE MED INSURANCE CARRIER, instead of whining that they want GOVERNMENT TO TAKE OVER OUR HEALTH CARE NATIONALLY!!!

IF YOU HAVE A LOUSY INSURANCE COMPANY, GO FIND A BETTER ONE. If you buy a lousy refrigerator, are you going to WHINE THAT YOU WANT THE GOVT. TO TAKE OVER APPLIANCE SALES & SERVICE IN AMERICA? Or go and BUY YOURSELF A BETTER MACHINE?!

GET A GRIP!
Some med insurance sucks, some med insurance is great. Usually the ones that SUCK are VERY VERY CHEAP, as far as premiums you pay and the minimal benefits you receive. You KNEW THIS going into the plan. We have EXCELLENT health insurance, paid in part by employer & in part by employee. Having a current catastrophic illness, we have literally been SAVED by the insurance, which has paid probably close to quarter of a million on medical & hospitalization costs so far. We have probably paid around $2000/year for this outstanding coverage. The biggest problem we have encountered is the mountain of paperwork, which YOU *ALWAYS* HAVE WITH ANY INSURANCE COVERAGE. The ins company staff is always courteous and they have online webpages that provide much help.

You are NOT going to get this quality of health insurance coverage under any GOVERNMENT PROGRAM. Stop acting silly, and go find a better insurance company and start paying YOUR SHARE of your dues. If you whine you cannot afford your dues, then adjust your budget. The dues are MINISCULE, compared to the BENEFITS you receive.

And P.S.: Clean up your lifestyle, so you will be healthier and NOT NEED to run to doctors & E.R. so often!

To Organic & Sustainable   May 2nd, 2009 - 5:35 pm

You wrote: “All I wanted was a renewal script for my Zoloft. I didn’t get it. The doctor said until I ran all these tests “his hands were tied.” ”

SOMETHING IS VERY WRONG WITH YOUR SITUATION. *WHY* do you need Zoloft? WHY would you need $1200 worth of B.S. doctoring/tests to renew your prescription? WHY are you referring to your Rx as a “script”? WHY are you WHINING that you are a sole proprietor who cannot afford health insurance? WHY don’t you get a better job that provides health insurance coverage?

You sound like a CAREER WHINER (a/k/a LIBTARD who voted for Obama). Get a grip. Get OFF the Zoloft. Take a serious look at your life & where you are headed. Sounds like you don’t even have any health problems, but instead are in serious need of some psychotherapy… which would probably be cheaper in the long run and more beneficial than the path you are currently on.

Good luck… and by the way, in WHAT WAY is taking ZOLOFT either organic OR sustainable???? Your entire philosophy needs serious re-examination and revision.

Dems, do you approve of all this? Honestly? Are they trying to force all of us to go to a Community Health Center run by the government? I hear the one in our city is getting a humongous increase. I work for a large hospital. We are doing everything we can to run lean and mean (so to speak), and still maintain appropriate care. Perhaps it will one day be run like the military hospital where my son was born. Each morning, they brought a load of sheets into your room, and YOU changed your bedsheets. That could save money?!!!!!

There are real solutions to satisfy needs, proven and successful and funded by citizens for citizens.
visit http://www.myspace.com/thesolutionguy and view the free video and PBS interview.
I fear this kind of ambition by the individuals who are elected to protect our interests. Every program that government touch’s expands the government, costs more exponentially and denies intended beneficiaries any real benefits, history is filled with that reality and these people persist in their delusion that they can do the same thing and it will be better.

JT   May 3rd, 2009 - 9:10 am

I have seen public health care in action in Europe. I do not want to put down any individual country. I saw an man die right in front of me in a hotel lobby. He was having a heart attach and the ambulance was called. They simply showed up and carried him away. No assistance at the hotel. I found out later he died and the hotel staff and the staff at the business I was visiting just accepted it as the way it is. The value of life is reduced under this type of plan. No one cares. You better eat right, exercise and hope there are no inherited defects in your DNA. Otherwise you are not going to live as long. By the way, private insurance will likely be outlawed. So you will not have a choice, no matter how much money you have, unless you leave the country. Welcome to the CHANGE the country voted for.

longun45   May 3rd, 2009 - 8:36 pm

Your dog or cat will get better health care than you do! Lets all go on welfare and crash this system good.

Sean   May 3rd, 2009 - 8:38 pm

I would just like to know, the flaws on both sides of healthcare notwithstanding, why should I be forced to give up MY Blue Cross HMO, which I am very satisfied with, and be stuck on a lesser, medicaid-like plan? What on earth did I ever do that I deserve to be punished in this manner, besides work hard, pay my bills, try to eat right, and take exercise? Doesn’t seem very fair. Everyone being on an “equal” footing is not a good thing if “equal” is considerably less than what the majority of people are enjoying.

Sue   May 4th, 2009 - 12:56 pm

I don’t know why people are complaining. In a few years we can all be sitting in our favorite bar or cafe having a good time. We will have our government check (most of us will be on a government program by then).

We can go see our government doctor after we go to our government food store and be happy as we head back to our government housing to watch our government TV on our government provided television set.

And for those silly enough to actually still have a job start practising an old Soviet saying, “They pretend to pay us and we pretend to work.”

Life is going to be so good in the new United Socialist States of America.

Miguel   May 4th, 2009 - 1:38 pm

Earlier comment never posted for some un-accountable reason. I’d said that as a former democrat art teacher in now dis-credited Cal Ed, I have to say that this woman is clinically insane! Her type of my former party comrades have destroyed California’s once great and powerful economy. We’re bankrupt at their hands! The peoples’ prosperity is not remotely part of their agenda. They only want power over the rest of us to exert their school-marming pc social controls! They hate freedom. They love the peoples’ weakness and fear!

Other posters here have educated us out here about the built-in criminality of this democrat huckster and the parasites who flock around such monsters as she is. She is part and parcel of the destruction of America which Ayn Rand wrote about so many decades ago.

You Go, Sue!   May 4th, 2009 - 3:03 pm

Sue sure got it right:
“start practising an old Soviet saying, “They pretend to pay us and we pretend to work.” ” !!

Grace   May 4th, 2009 - 3:09 pm

Sue, I love that “They pretend to pay us and we pretend to work!” That is perfect, and soooo true! How fun will that be? Oh, and I’m sure it’s public health care for us but private for the US House members and their family!!! Do they go to public clinics now? I am thinking they need to start supporting what they are advocating?

steve   May 4th, 2009 - 4:52 pm

The thing she is NOT saying is she , Obama, & the rest of these who are trying to push so called free or public health care have no intention of using it themselves. They will still have private doctors & hospitals, so they won’t have to be at the mercy of a Government helath care program. Long waits, Government workers deciding who will get what test, medicines, surgerys, & when . They will decide who lives & dies waiting. If they will use it & also use only social security for their retirement then I might believe it is good, but I don’t see that happening.

Ann   May 4th, 2009 - 5:01 pm

In order to finance NHC, the private option will be eliminated. The folks proposing it are all about “spreading the wealth”, and they do not want two different standards available. By the time we’re taxed to provide NHC, we won’t be able to afford private insurance. Those who don’t or won’t work will benefit from those who do.

Everyone is equal, “but some are more equal than others”

Bryan   May 4th, 2009 - 6:28 pm

Uh….have I missed something here? If this is all about getting people health care, why does the government have to be the ONLY solution? I really would like to know how to stop this madness of turning the country into a socialist state. One political party has control and it will be their will that is acted upon. I fear there will be no going back from this. I regret that my country lost it’s republic to become a socialist/marxist country during my lifetime.

Bob   May 6th, 2009 - 10:18 am

Those of you in favor of Government run healthcare should be careful of what you wish for. Expect at least 20 to 30% of your income to be eventually taken from you for “Canadian” style healthcare. I’m talking to those of you who pay hardly any federal tax now. There will be a limit on what the government can take from the “rich” to subsidize all these handouts and it is pretty close right now to it.

You'reNuts   May 6th, 2009 - 3:36 pm

All you fools who think socialized medicine is ‘unconstitutional’– cite to the constitution! There’s nothing there that says the government can’t do this. Morons. That’s what’s great about you imbecilic conservative fascists– you’re illiterate and completely ignorant but that doesn’t stop you from invoking our sacred texts. You keep telling people to get jobs– go get a degree!

Michael   May 7th, 2009 - 11:28 am

@You’reNuts
your degree is obviously worthless, you feckless liberal nazi. The reason it’s unconstitutional is because the federal government does not have the power to force the states to do it’s bidding. If you had actually read the Constitution instead of Saul Alinsky, you might know this. The 10th amendment gives the states sovereignty. If a state government wants to try to socialize their medical program, that’s fine…but you can’t mandate it from King Obama’s castle.

You'reNuts   May 8th, 2009 - 6:50 pm

The 10th Amendment has not been invoked to strike down legislation in a very long time– certainly not something as comprehensive as a universal health care statute. Why hasn’t the Court struck down social security, mandatory unemployment insurance, medicare, etc.? Because it’s perfectly constitutional to condition federal funding on a state’s compliance with a congressional mandate. GO TO SCHOOL– AND NOT HOME SCHOOL: YOUR MOTHER WASN’T SMART ENOUGH TO ABORT YOU, SO SHE OBVIOUSLY ISN’T QUALIFIED TO TEACH.

You'reNuts   May 8th, 2009 - 6:57 pm

There is no way the Court will strike down a universal health care law under the 10th Amendment– dumb fuck. Why hasn’t Medicare, Social Security, mandatory unemployment insurance, been struck down? Because it’s perfectly constitutional for the Feds to condition funding on state compliance with Congress’ mandate. GO TO SCHOOL MORONS! (HOME SCHOOL DOESN’T COUNT– YOU’RE MOTHER WASN’T SMART ENOUGH TO ABORT YOU SO SHE’S OBVIOUSLY NOT QUALIFIED TO TEACH!)

trish   May 11th, 2009 - 1:22 pm
