I’m glad to see Sanchez give to this jerk. Freedom means nothing to me and the rest of us. We need government help to get us out of this mess. We need to tax the rich at least 95% and give it to people that need it more than then these fat cats need. If we would cut the military in half we have all the money we needed more social programs. “Freedom” means freedom from taxation; freedom to deny equal marriage rights; freedom to access all forms of firearms, freedom to deny a woman the right to make her own reproductive decisions; freedom to promote a worldview based upon myths, superstitions, historical inaccuracies, and other lies (i.e. The Biblical view of the world). This is the mother of all credit card debts and the biggest tent IS freedom, and it’s going to become the size of a paper Hawaiian drink umbrella if we’re not careful. Doesn’t matter if you’re left or right… you’d better start worrying about the kind of world our kids will have with no freedoms and no dreams because there are no more jobs, nobody can afford their flat-screen TV’s or even the internet bill and there’s not enough money left over after taxes except to feed ourselves… maybe. That’s how much money we are spending. That’s why the tent of freedom is so important. The more the gov’t spends, the less we will have. It’s not rocket science.

The Facts on Spending: This talk of Mexicans, children, and welfare queens being largely responsible for draining our national resources is a joke. The same holds true for the much discussed “earmarks” as it represents about 1% of the budget. This is where our money goes: 42% to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security; 21% to defense; 12% to other mandated spending; 9% to the national debt, and 16% to domestic discretionary spending. I railed against the waste under Bush, and am very concerned with our present fiscal position. Understand that we presently have to spend a ton of dough to get out this mess, BUT, when we do emerge we must make hard choices. These choices should hurt everyone to some extent, but the most vulnerable must be spared as much as possible. There must be cuts and changes to existing programs, and yes, higher taxes. The pain will have to be spread around. Annual health care costs total over $2 trillion and represent 17% of GDP. I cannot see anything working to halt these exploding costs other than a single-payer system. We do it with medicare and we can replicate that with the rest of the population. We need a serious debate about the role of government; end-of-life health care costs; personal responsibility including out-of-wedlock births/diet; working longer and waiting for social security. There is far too much heat and too little light generated on these message boards and in similar forums. We have become a childish, silly, distracted people.
