And the point would be…?

He should try this in Pakistan with the beheading routine. Just for perspective.

Playboy owners are pure leftists providing porn in order to make money off of people’s weaknesses. I doubt they will be the source of a correct logical truthful view on anything.

Since it’s not torture can we try it on DICK Cheney?

Voice of Reason   April 22nd, 2009 - 12:46 am

As one can see he was NO danger of any physical harm. Let it also be known that when waterboarding is conducted against a suspect, a medical doctor is present at all times. Let it also be known that waterboarding, for all the media attention its gotten, was only done THREE TIMES – once each on 3 people.

Just for additional perspective – 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammad lasted almost through 20min of this before he broke. He was one tough mutha’ If it was such blatant torture he wouldn’t have lasted anywhere near that long. It is a psychological technique designed to invoke the very basic fear of drowning.

Voice of Reason,
Why don’t you try 168 times over a one month period instead? That is the number that was just released. Get your facts correct before you weigh in on the argument. And after KSM “broke” what did he reveal, was it of any real value, and why did they continue to subject him to waterboarding? The urban legend perpetuated by flawed individuals like that Dick, Cheney, is that this procedure works. It does not and is nothing other than torture for vengeance.

A recent Senate Armed Services Report just released describes how legal and interrogation experts warned that coercive techniques could “backfire and might violate US and international law”. One Lt. Colonel said that these techniques “usually decreases the reliability of the information because the person will say whatever he believes will stop the pain.” If you are truly interested in obtaining actionable information, then these methods must be condemned and stopped.

Once you open the door to using this garbage you run the risk of it becoming standard operating procedures with the inevitable further abuse by subordinates (Abu Ghraib, anyone?).

What made this country truly great are our standards and ethics. When we surrender our morals to a combination of fear and hate, we all lose.

Hrmmm...   April 22nd, 2009 - 1:29 pm

I would rather be waterboarded than gee I dunno have my head cut off while alive and bound listening to religious fanatics rant on and on. Oh and have my death filmed for the internet.

A recent Senate Armed Services Report just released describes how legal and interrogation experts warned that coercive techniques could “backfire and might violate US and international law”.”
A Congressional report. Yeah. Thats objective. Also note the lack of absolutes. It was generated for press fodder.

“One Lt. Colonel said that these techniques “usually decreases the reliability of the information because the person will say whatever he believes will stop the pain.” ”

What pain? Read the memos. Its almost all psychological with some physical discomfort. The subject may say what ever will stop the pain but that requires a leading question being posed first. What interrogator is stupid enough to do that? That only happens in movies.

“If you are truly interested in obtaining actionable information, then these methods must be condemned and stopped.”

The proof is in the pudding. Read the memos and hope Cheney gets his wish that the documents that clearly refute this hype are released. Somehow I doubt Obama would do that as it would prove he released the first batch for propaganda purposes.

Airwick   April 22nd, 2009 - 2:40 pm

Other,
I don’t understand your logic. Pain can be either psychological or physical. “Some physical” discomfort IS pain! What else can you call it? The fact is that international law AND our laws do not allow it.

If Cheney thought that this type of questioning was proper and revealed important information, then why didn’t HE release these memos when he had the chance?

TxTeaParty   April 22nd, 2009 - 11:58 pm

Obama and his lapdog followers are simply delusional. They refuse to face facts.Regardless of the circumstances because it might, and it does, show that the Bush Admin and the CIA were HEROES and saved thousands of AMERICAN lives.

If, God forbid, another attack happens during this Administration, it WILL be OBAMA to blame.

Connect the Dots. The Bush Admin did and now corrupt Democrats want to hold show trials. This will backfire.

Bill Airs   April 26th, 2009 - 12:14 pm

This is a quote from Ali Soufan,a FBI interrogater.

” One of the most striking parts of the memos is the false premises on which they are based. The first, dated August 2002, grants authorization to use harsh interrogation techniques on a high-ranking terrorist, Abu Zubaydah, on the grounds that previous methods hadn’t been working. The next three memos cite the successes of those methods as a justification for their continued use.

It is inaccurate, however, to say that Abu Zubaydah had been uncooperative. Along with another F.B.I. agent, and with several C.I.A. officers present, I questioned him from March to June 2002, before the harsh techniques were introduced later in August. Under traditional interrogation methods, he provided us with important actionable intelligence.

We discovered, for example, that Khalid Shaikh Mohammed was the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks. Abu Zubaydah also told us about Jose Padilla, the so-called dirty bomber. This experience fit what I had found throughout my counterterrorism career: traditional interrogation techniques are successful in identifying operatives, uncovering plots and saving lives.”

The ACLU,filed a lawsuit under the FOIA for the torture memos.
Barack Hussein Obama said they felt that they could not win the lawsuit,so he released the memos.
Now we will see what will happen.
Its always better to deal in facts instead of a bunch of partisan rhetoric.
