$100M in Cuts Obama Seeks is 1/4 of 1% of Federal Spending for FY 2009

Washington Post: Much of the announced cuts seem like no-brainers -- mostly savings on travel, office equipment and redundancy. The Agriculture Department will move 1,500 employees from seven leased spaces into one facility by 2011, saving $62 million over a 15-year lease. The Education Department will trim $2 million by issuing most employees only one laptop computer, instead of also assigning them a desktop for their office. In a blow to the newspaper industry, the U.S. Attorneys and the U.S. Marshals Offices’ Asset Forfeiture program will stop publishing judicial forfeiture notices in print and will do so online only, saving $6.7 million over the first five years of the move.

A nod to the tea parties for sure. Ellen is right, not enough, but a tiny step in the right direction.

Unlike Eileen, a 50 percent cut is not the number I’d be looking for. Perhaps 20 percent, starting with complete cuts to the Soros funded ACORN (5 Billion) and related pork in the stimulus package. This should be followed by successive cuts to government. You should not expand the government when the economy is contracting. A genuine recipe for disaster.

This may satiate some of the protesters out there, but it may spur more to join the parties with the hope that Obama will have his cabinet cut more–as they should. After all, it is not their money to begin with.

100 million roughly equals the DAILY loan cost of the february stimulus package over the next 10 years.

I am so glad he is looking at waste at all levels.

The Right Wing can buzz all it wants because it has not had any credibility on this issue for many years. Republicans are the spend thrift kings.

And those Tea Baggers don’t fool anyone. If the people who’s taxes got increased under the Obama plan ever showed up to those rallies, the parking lot would be full of limos and their butlers would be marching around with thier signs.

I understand that grik and Mark are going to put their money where their mouths are and go to Iran to become human shields. I didn’t know most Liberals had enough intestinal fortitude to do something like this. I think you two deserve a pat on the back.

By way that spending cut is a joke. B-HO thought it was April 1st.

good thing i am libertarian then. you fat obnoxious troll.

Let's put things into some sort of perspective.   April 21st, 2009 - 1:52 pm

The “wildly successful” (according to Talk Radio) Tea Parties TOTALED LESS than six one hundredths of one percent of the US population. Using that criterion, Obama’s cuts are statistically over four times as effective.
