The USA never “exploited” Latin America.

Latin America exploited it’s self via corruption, greed, caste systems and ignorance.

Stop blamming the USA for all the ills of the world you third world marxists and go look in the mirror.

Maximus   April 18th, 2009 - 12:26 pm

What a bunch of crap..what do you expect from a muslim socialist presidente`?

Gandhi's Fist   April 18th, 2009 - 1:03 pm

This was a photo opportunity to avoid! At least he didn’t bow to Chavez. That must count for something right?

Reminded me of the photo of Neville Chamberlain with Hitler. All good stuff for the next election cycle.

Daisy   April 18th, 2009 - 1:22 pm

Gee, one more thing Chavez and Obama have in common – apart from their Marxism and contempt for themselves and the USA – they both have a talent for giving seriously inappropriate presents.

Observantminority   April 18th, 2009 - 1:35 pm

Chavez walked over and dropped it on him. What was Obama to do, throw it at him?

Nonstory. Desperate rethugs.

America can’t wait for another election to beat the petty right-wing whackos senseless again.

“Anybody in the room who is surprised by this please raise your hand.”

“That’s what I thought.”

Bill   April 18th, 2009 - 2:10 pm

What he should do is give Chavez a book detailing all the great things the U.S. has done in the world including latin america over the years.

What is absolutely going on here is Chavez using the opportunity to play Obama like a fool.He is using him for properganda(the handshake photo taken by his photagrapher)as well as the book.No coincidence that all of a sudden Chavez, castro and Ahmadinijad want to embrace Obama at the same time after all these years and let bygones be bygones.Obviously the con game is going on and we will all suffer unless Obama gets his head out of his you know what.

AtlasOjectivist   April 18th, 2009 - 2:54 pm

This whole conversation is utter BS.

It’s obvious we need an individual on the caliber of Newt Gingrich.

Kevin   April 18th, 2009 - 3:28 pm

Interesting, the descendants of the Spanish Empire criticize the United States for the “rape” of Latin America. Maybe these selective amnesiacs should read some history.

Oh I get it, anything supposedly bad could only be down by a white person. The tyranny and oppression of Latin America is not caused by corrupt Latin American politicians is it.

America…one “wanna be” dictator of America…greeting warmly another dictator of America! Old pals with lots in common!

Saul…are you asking him how he got rid of term limits?

How about squashing the free speech of his people?

How about nationalizing their banks and private industries.

They both have so much in common it is pathetic!

How foolish we must look to our enemies! Getting in bed with them in the hopes they will like us and work with us!

IDIOTS ALL   April 18th, 2009 - 6:03 pm

Guess Chavez (the Clown) has taken a cue from Obama (also a clown?) in what gifts to present to other heads of state… (Didn’t Obama also gift England’s Queen & her hubby with a bunch of self-aggrandizing political hooey on his recent visit?)

By the way, hope that book does not fail to mention the CATHOLIC CHURCH as a primary EXPLOITER OF LATIN AMERICA–if the author thinks FAMILY PLANNING is for the purpose of “destroying future guerilla fighters in the womb” maybe he ought to ask himself how every female in Latin America having ten, twelve, fourteen or twenty hungry mouths to feed HELPS his poverty-stricken region?

Eileen for Freedom/Liberty   April 18th, 2009 - 6:25 pm

Oh…one more thing…Hugo…Saul Alinsky Obama already had that book in his library.

It was one of his reading requirements while studying Saul Alinsky!

He took it all to heart…everything negative he could learn about America…and now he is applying all of it as he disses the United States of America overseas…and within the gates of our enemies.

All Hail Our New Ayatollah of America…All Hail…the Messiah of the Nation of Islam…All Hail the new Muslim leader of the United States of America…thank you America for making it happen!

Now…don’t ever…ever…let it happen again!

Gee– Barack didn’t give Hugo an Ipod with his speeches on it?
Does this guy hate our country or what? I am sick of his apologies to other countries and prostituting himself for oil. I hope all you fools who voted for him are welcoming the Change. Great photo of two demagogues schmoozing it up for the carmera. It makes me sick. 100+ days of this administration is already like an eternity. Talk about torture! Gitmo was nothing compared to having this administration in power. OUCH!!!!!

AW   April 18th, 2009 - 7:12 pm

A headline from the Huffington Post:

Chavez Gives Obama A History Book

It’s all in your interpretation.

Dr. Strangelove   April 18th, 2009 - 8:40 pm

If this book is on the “Blame America First” top ten list, then rest assured that Obama already owns a copy. But perhaps not in Spanish, which is what the Evil Clown gave him.

Just like Obama’s mentor Jimmy Carter, Obama gives great legitimacy to Chavez. I’m sure Slick Barry couldn’t be troubled to ask Hugo about all the journalists and dissidents he had locked up, or all the FARC terror attacks in neighboring Colombia which Chavez funds.

That’s yer President…
He’s real popular in New York…

Far Right Wing Wacko   April 18th, 2009 - 10:02 pm

Ahhh,… Once again, this redneck hate filled website spinning the facts in order to suit you ideological neanderthals continues to belittle you all even more. It’s no damned wonder you, your party, and all you stand for, have become the laughing stock of this country and the world!

Hell, even this website has become so desperate over the past 6 months it’s amazingly mind boggling! It used to be you could come on this site and have an actual intellectual debate. But not any longer! All the intellects have left (not that there were that many here anyway) and now there’s nothing more than a couple of bitter old know nothings that rant and rave because the rest of this country saw right through your ideological bull sh*t!

You morons lost period! You lost in 2000 and had to have the heavily far right bloated (but soon to change) Supreme Court side with you (even though you lost the pop vote) And you BARELY won in 2004 by paying off a bunch of college kids in Ohio with free beer & pizza! This time you all got so thoroughly thrashed it was flat out embarrassing for you. And by a fairly obscure African American at that to boot! Too funny! I actually saw all of the FOX Noise wannabe reporters crying and wiping away their tears along with that piece of dirt Karl Rove while Obama was being announced the overwhelming victor! I can assure you another overwhelming thrashing the next go around as well. The voters are becoming much younger, more politically involved, more educated, more tolerant, far less ideological, and not at all associated with the far right what so ever! Looks pretty gloomy for you all again. And Gingrich? GIVE ME A FREAK’N BREAK! Now THAT’S a real laugher!

I’ll say it again, it’s really laughable watching all you redneck toothless Rethugs twist and turn in the wind. You all have absolutely no direction and no center. It’s like watching rats swimming away from the Titanic. You just can’t accept that your party lost the election and apparently the concept of majority rule means nothing to you. Some Republicans are starting to get the fact that they’ve become completely irrelevant and that they must do something to try to get some cohesion back but then they come up against the likes of Palin, Limbaugh, Coulter and the teabaggers (grin). These people are all are making a laughing stock of the Republican party, they’re just too arrogant and ignorant (and always have been) to realize it.

And the Far Right Rethuglican’t Comedy Parade Continues……..

Nice to see our SPM-POTUS living up to expectations.

[...] According to ABC: At President Obama’s meeting with the heads of South American countries this morning, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez stood, walked over to him, and presented him with a copy of “Open Veins of Latin America: Five Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent” by Uruguayan author Eduardo Galeano. The book, first published in Spanish in 1971, offers a critique of the consequences of 500 years of… [...]

MR APOLOGY - ACADEMIC POS!   April 19th, 2009 - 1:17 am

OBAMA IS FINE EXAMPLE OF WHAT AN EDUCATION FROM AN AMERICAN ACADEMIC INSTITUTION AND CRIME FROM CHICAGO CAN DO.

Woody   April 19th, 2009 - 2:24 am

Dr. Strangelove, you’re right. Obama already owns a copy of this vitriolic book. It’s sitting on his book shelf in the Oval Office, along with the rest of his archive of anti-American books.

Nate   April 19th, 2009 - 5:08 am

Are you people unaware of the US overthrowing presidents in Venezuela and Chile to install dictators? Or Teddy Roosevelt’s instigating conflict in Panama in order to achieve his canal?

Oi vey! Get over your patriotism for one second and wake up to some history.

Kenny C   April 19th, 2009 - 7:46 am

Screw that azz hole….we should stop buying their crappy oil….no one else can refine it but us…..ungrateful third world azz holes

What a non story
Chavez hands Obama a gift, (of a book)….and water is wet…so what?
Chavez is president of an important sovergn Nation, and will likely remain that country’s leader for decades. The world has to deal with him, for good or ill. Publicly snubbing Chavez or turning down some gift would be childish, and stupid. If Obama doesn’t want the gift, he can toss it in a dumpster off camera.

mark   April 19th, 2009 - 2:29 pm

Anyone who doesn’t think America has intervened in South and Central American leader’s careers, and formented some overthrows, and placed some pretty loathsome military leaders in power. Hasn’t lived very long. South America is relitively as peaceful as I’ve ever seen it in over 50 years. With the exception of Mexican border violence,”If it ain’t broke DON’T FIX IT.”

Check out “Far Right Wing Wacko,” aka “FRWW” and read what he says; if you can remain alive long enough to finish.

He starts up and never stops. His mouth runs like a whippoorwill’s rear end.

A full load of it, defending the biggest buffoon to have ever been elected to anything.

Military coups were as regular as clockwork for DECADES of my life, over half of them Americans had trained the G*D D*MN military doing the coup.
These coups would fluctuate from communist to fascist…and it wasn’t consistantly clear which side we backed.
