SAHusker   April 17th, 2009 - 10:40 pm

Dear Greta,

I don’t recall you or your masters at Fox getting so worked up over George W. Bush’s “Free Speech Zones” designed to keep protestors out of his sight, or Dick Cheney’s infamous “Loyalty Oath” demand for a admission to a political rally in New Mexico.

Fair and balanced? HARDLY.

Brandon   April 20th, 2009 - 2:17 pm

As a USC alumnus, he was trespassing since school grounds are private property. When John McCain spoke at the university in 2000, I witnessed several Democrat protesters arrested for the same reason.

The Monster   April 20th, 2009 - 10:24 pm

Brandon, I didn’t know that Ziegler is an alum of USC. But how would that affect whether it was “trespassing”?

Or did you leave something out of that sentence? Maybe you should have spent more time in English class.

BWoody   April 21st, 2009 - 4:21 am

SAHusker,

you cannot be serious? Did you follow ANY of Obama’s speeches and of course the inauguration?

At least there were areas allocated for protestors at Bush speeches, where was the area for this event???

Your blind partisanship is leading you off the cliff. NOBODY should be arrested for what he was doing, regardless of who he was speaking out against.

Danthemason   April 21st, 2009 - 4:25 am

Those who cannot draw a distinction between someone engaging in one to one conversation, and others shouting in unison in order to disrupt an event, are blinded by their partisanship.

Cliff   April 21st, 2009 - 6:23 am

THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS. Look what happens when you give people handcuffs, they immediately begin to exercise petty tyranny. Let’s not give these folks anymore power or we will be subjected to further arbitrary extra-legal whims.

Mia   April 21st, 2009 - 8:02 am

This is definitely the sign of worse things to come. This is a public University that gets federal funds so he is allowed to be there exercising his free speech rights. I hope he sues the hell out of them! This is how the Hitler regime started out. We should all be very afraid no matter what party you belong to. Our Constitution is being trampled every day with this administration. This is not the change, I had hoped for!!!!!!!!

Travis   April 21st, 2009 - 9:14 am

Sorry, I made a mistake. When talking about arguing “their” right to free speech, I forgot to define “their.” I meant to say I would argue any Obama supporter’s right to free speech. Sorry The Monster….

Travis   April 21st, 2009 - 9:19 am

First off, to SAHusker. Does the fact that you don’t like the guy change the way you feel about the subject? I particularly think Obama will do far worse to our Right to Free Speech than the Bush Admin. allegedly did but I would still argue their right to free speech. I think it is very telling when someone is willing to compromise on their beliefs because of how they feel about someone. Cliff I agree. University Police are, I don’t know, 7 times out of 10 not qualified for any other law enforcement jobs. When they are given handcuffs, they are just LOOKING for someone to use them on. But to correct Mia, USC IS NOT a public university. It is private and as such they can kick anyone off of the campus grounds when they want to. And I’m not even an USC Alum.! And don’t argue that they get gov’t money because almost every school private or public gets gov’t money. Take it to court.

J. R.   April 21st, 2009 - 9:40 am

This is clearly a violation of the First Ammendment (free speech and free press) among other Constitutional issues. Ziegler needs to retain a good lawyer and sue the hell out of these gestapos…………..

MarineSurveyorT   April 21st, 2009 - 10:04 am

Pretty appropriate that these toy cops are dressed in BROWN SHIRTS.

Erich   April 21st, 2009 - 10:10 am

J.R., Mia – This is absolutely NOT a First Amendment issue. USC is a PRIVATE school. Zeigler was trespassing on private property. There are actually signs posted at the entrances which say this. Just because they “get federal money” doesn’t mean anyone is allowed on campus. I have a federal student loan. That doesn’t mean anyone can come in to my apartment whenever they want. Sorry, but that argument is just false. I’m a USC alum – class of ‘95.

I have no dog in this fight, I used to listen to Ziegler on LA radio a few years back, and always sort of liked him, but I don’t think he’s going to win this fight.

One other thing… USC security are generally VERY well trained. They do have arrest powers on campus – just like LAPD. It’s an inner-city campus, and as such has some pretty serious security. Zeigler should have done some research before he went there.

Bud Laumann   April 21st, 2009 - 10:10 am

Shame on USC. Sadly, this is just a preview of what is coming for our individual rights.

Leanne   April 21st, 2009 - 10:20 am

I am not a fan of the Katie Couric debacle or in the erosion of our personal rights, but c’mon, people…Ziegler was most likely very much aware of the USC policy and simply turned the media on itself by getting coverage for his cause. Bottom line…publicity stunt…viral marketing at its best. And considering where this video is turning up — it worked.

Mustang260ci   April 21st, 2009 - 11:03 am

Zigler reminded me of the “Don’t tase me, bro” student. However, I’ve hated Katie Couric ever since she sandbagged Bob Dole in 1994 over tobacco. But there were no controversial questions for Clinton. Dems get tossed softballs from Katie. She’s no journalist.

BJ   April 21st, 2009 - 11:11 am

It grieves my heart what is happening in our country. The dominant opinion seems to be that unless you are liberal, radical, socialist, and/or communist you have no right to voice your view or to stand against what is happening to our society. I pray the American people wake up before all of our rights have been stolen right out from under us, in the name of “change”. God help us.

Seppo   April 21st, 2009 - 11:32 am

Erich – Leanne…

You are both exactly right. This is not a First Amendment issue. Zigler is standing on private property. He can be asked to leave by the owners of that property, USC, and if he does not comply he is trespassing. If he were asking the same questions a few hundred yards to the north, then he could make his claim of having his rights impeded.

Personally, it disgusts me that Couric was given this award, but facts are facts. Zigler is in the wrong here. Publicity stunt.

Pavlova   April 21st, 2009 - 12:24 pm

Sounds like Nazi Germany to me. Outrageous!

William Boaz   April 21st, 2009 - 12:50 pm

I am 63 yrs. old. The people in power today were the bomb-throwers in the 60’s. They protested whenever and WHEREVER they felt like it. They routinely attacked the police and all established institutions of this nation. Now that they have the power they are abusing just like the other side did back in the 60’s. Ziegler was right to be there and speak up for what he believes in. USC is supposed to be a Liberal institution champion of free speech…sure doesn’t look like it. The shoe is on the other foot and Liberals cannot tolerant Conservatives expressing and exercising their Constitutional Rights. Those hypocrites can all go to hel (sic) !!!

William Boaz   April 21st, 2009 - 12:56 pm

Liberals are in the process of creating a lot of enemies. Apparently they don’t have enough. Or maybe they don’t consider Iran or North Korea or Venezuela enemies. Only American Conservatives are their enemies and it appears they are going to use the power of the Federal government to oppress and suppress their “enemies”. Forget Iran / North Korea nukes – the real “enemy” is the American Middle Class speaking up in the name of the 1st Amendment.
What a joke these Stalinists are……

Dee   April 21st, 2009 - 1:48 pm

As a Dem turned Republican back in 1990 when I was told if I didn’t vote Democrat for Clinton I would loose my job in the Entertainment Industry. (I lost my job!)
I am shocked and appalled that our free speach is being taken away along with many other Constitutional Rights. If this was a liberal going after and Conservative this would not have happened. That is the truth!!

Mr. Ziegler, please, please, please…pursue your legal rights!!

Teri   April 21st, 2009 - 1:51 pm

John Ziegler’s movie PROVES the INCOMPETENCE and UNPROFESSIONALISM of the Katie Courics and Charlie Gibsons, Barbara Walters, etc. of the MSM by showing that the unadulterated, patently biased coverage of the presidential campaigns did NOT provide objective, factual, information upon which the public could make INFORMED, EDUCATED decisions regarding the candidates. In fact, the LACK of just simple common knowledge amongst the Democratic voters was/is astounding!! Another frightening aspect of Ziegler’s poll is that even in light of these people being told they were incorrect, they’d still not have changed their vote – INCREDIBLE! That so many were willing to jeopardize the good of our nation based on INcorrect notions or race or personality is beyond all imaginings!
EVERYONE in our country SHOULD be furious about this now PROVEN bias in the media, regardless of whether your guy won or not … it PROVES FALSE & MISLEADING information being TOUTED as the TRUTH, DEMONSTRATIVE INCOMPETENCE and NO ONE benefits from THAT!!
THIS is what John Ziegler is trying to show everyone. That the media has done us ALL a DISSERVICE by allowing it’s industry to lower standards in favor of slanted, BIASED, emotional reporting. He was doing nothing unlawful. My question to those who wanted him removed or those whining about the property being private or whatever else is: WHY would you or anyone NOT want to know the honest, objective, REAL TRUTH?? Really!

KFIfan   April 21st, 2009 - 2:00 pm

Wow unbelievable, JZ arrested, yet another sign that free speech is on the decline. Not liberal but patriotic and conservative speech. It’s just the beginning of the totalitarian regime that is put in place under Hussein Obama. China is coming my firends. This land will become the land of the Obama sheeps where any opposition will be silenced

PS: Ziegler i miss you! you were great on KFI AM640 after John and Ken, i hope you return there soon!

Denise   April 21st, 2009 - 3:24 pm

I’m pretty sure John Ziegler needs to marry me. Or I need to at least bear his children. ha ha.. I love him!!

mlcrn415   April 21st, 2009 - 3:51 pm

HELLOOOO, the biggest joke here is katie couric receivig ANY award for journalism. Did anyone actually see that interview. Katie needs to retire and just go away, somewhere far, far away. John Ziegler is AWESOME. Thank you for standing up and doing something about the injustice called the media. Don’t give up JZ.

Ana   April 21st, 2009 - 7:18 pm

Concerning the private property argument, Ziegler notes that “While USC is indeed a “private” school, this does not in any way legally make their property like that of a private residence. First, they take federal tax money, and second it has a very “open” campus and the area I was in has direct access from a public street without even a gate blocking the way. At any given moment there are many people walking on the sidewalks where I was arrested who are neither students, faculty nor invited guests of the University. I had every right to be there (outside the building where the award ceremony took place) and I did nothing to provoke or warrant being handcuffed, arrested or removed from the property. It is very clear the only reason that happened was because of my previously expressed political opinion on what was going on that day. In short, I was targeted for different treatment because of my beliefs.”

Ana   April 21st, 2009 - 7:31 pm

And concerning conjectures that this was a publicity stunt: “Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, while obviously I welcome anything that raises awareness of my film and its truth, THIS WAS NOT A PUBLICITY STUNT and I had absolutely zero intention or expectation of anything like this happening. I honestly thought that I would go, ask a few embarrassing questions of the authorities, give away my film, and hopefully be able to speak to some of those who were going to the event so that I could share with them the real truth of the matter.

For those cynics out there (I am one, by the way) who still don’t believe me, I ask you to answer the following questions.

If this was a publicity stunt, why didn’t I force the authorities to book me so that I would get a mug shot and face formal charges which would exponentially increase the media coverage of the event?

If I anticipated anything like what occurred, why did I park my car in a metered parking space where if I was gone for more than an hour the chances of my car being towed would be extremely high?

If I wanted this to occur, why did I not have any scripted lines ready to go or any sort of publicity machine mobilized to take advantage of the news potential of the incident? Why did I have to call my lawyer after I got kicked off the property to see what the law said about what one could do at a “private” university.

While I completely understand the skepticism, any objective look at the facts or at who I am as a person will force you to conclude that my motives were actually rather pure here.

These both seem like reasonable responses to me.

Lanerd   April 21st, 2009 - 10:55 pm

So much for the illusion of a free and open media in the states . Its OK to say anything you want as long as it what they want to hear . So do you feel like a subject yet?

Historytruth   April 22nd, 2009 - 12:05 pm

So basically, if you break windows, throw things, and shout obscenities, you get to protest -you might get held back a little–but you get your time and your face is all over the news for days. But if you dress nicely, commit no acts of vandalism, and talk intelligently, you get hauled away immediately. Hmmmm.

craig   April 22nd, 2009 - 1:33 pm

How in the heck to these Code Pink lunatics get into Congressional hearings but this guy is kicked off the SC campus?

jan   April 22nd, 2009 - 1:51 pm

This is an outrage! Campus Police using handcuffs on a sober person..LOL..this is a first. These wannabee cops should be brought in front of a judge NOW. What has happened to the America I knew?

Katie Couric is no journalist. She did not deserve any award except for being a mean girl. She gushed over Obama from the beginning and was so disrespectful to the Edwards and Gov. Palin. Walter would call this journalism?

Pat   April 22nd, 2009 - 8:34 pm

Who is this Katie Couric? Our couselor? Our government? Do we really need her????? I think not. We need to get rid of such trash.

David B.   April 23rd, 2009 - 12:09 am

David B.   April 23rd, 2009 - 12:25 am

It’s apparent that Zeigler has a lawsuit. If he was violating any law, then he would not have been released by the police who were called after he was handcuffed. Check out his website, How Obama Got Elected.com and you’ll be able to understand why he was arrested. It’s because he isn’t a ‘liberal’.

Vera K.   April 24th, 2009 - 4:19 pm

I’d LOVE to see Zeigler sue the 2 cops, their department, & USC.

Sadly & ironically, one of the cops is black.

TEHelms   April 28th, 2009 - 7:58 am

I never have a problem with a protest, being a child of the 60s..but, being arrested just gives him a bigger platform, does it not? Likely he knew he was on private property and chosed to proceed.

As to his point, you don’t have to be a pointy headed liberal like I am to see his prejudice for Palin. He is defending her what? Her right to give interviews and look as incompetent as she is? She was clearly not ready for prime time and perhaps she will do better next time. But she lives in a glass house and she threw many stones and some came back at her not out of malise but merely because she earned them. Weep not for Palin.

John Doe   May 8th, 2009 - 2:36 am

Katie Couric and all other MSM anchors (Brokaw, Rather and Walters, etc.) are members of the Council on Foreign Relations, a thinktank of international industrialists, financiers and media types who are intent on instituting the One World Government AKA Total Global Slavery.

Ziegler is a Clown!   May 20th, 2009 - 12:57 pm

If anyone wants to see the whole event not shamelessly edited to present Mr. Ziegler as a hero, when in fact he was a total douche bag, and quite frankly should have been arrested, THEN click on the link above and be taken to the website of the film crew that filmed and edited it, I guess, because they thought they were in the right. (or maybe tey just thought Ziegler was a clown and it would get THEM some free publicity too. – Isn’t that how it works Mr. Ziegler?)

Fair and Balanced – HA!

WHAT PROVOKED THIS? – umm impersonating a journalist -when in fact you were a protestor disguised as a journalist. “JOURNALISTS” don’t hand out copies of their movies while “covering” an event.

I TAKE IT YOU WEREN’T TRYING TO FORCE YOUR WAY IN… um… yeah, he was – see the link.

“REFUSING TO MOVE” – But not resisting – resisting has different letters than “refusing to move”.

I expressed my TRUE opinions that are probably too long to post here. See the bottom of the page at the link above.

FredF   August 15th, 2009 - 11:12 am

Interesting, here we have two cops acting very “stupidly”. Why no remarks from the President?
Put handcuffs in the hands of a couple of idiots and look what happens. Better hold on to your guns America.

elvann   August 18th, 2009 - 10:47 am

Couric sucks! Literally.

Ellen   August 23rd, 2009 - 10:08 pm

For those of you who think this was warranted you better WAKE UP!!! Obama is gonna do this to everyone…Hitler did it too!

Matt   September 1st, 2009 - 12:09 pm

The sidewalk which Mr. Zeigler was standing on is not private, school property. It is, in fact, public property

LMAO   October 20th, 2009 - 1:25 pm

You right wingnuts are funny. You all better watch out for the boogeyman. Zeigler is a idiot who is trying to gain attention so fools like you will make him money.

Patriot   October 21st, 2009 - 3:43 am

“Zeigler is a idiot who is trying to gain attention so fools like you will make him money.”
-LMAO

Make light of this all you want.. wait until it happens to you. But then again, it probably won’t because your mother still wipes your nose and feeds you the bottle. With all the yellow bellied kool aid drinking Obama drones out there it is sure nice to see a patriot like Zeigler.
