If you don’t talk to them you will never get anywhere. Most of the Iranians are young and many do not like the present ruling group. We can work with these people to change the situation in Iran to everyone’s benefit. The economy in Iran is terrible and they DO have elections (one is coming up this year). We can influence the outcome of these elections if we are smart.

Talking makes more sense than bombing. This was a very good move by the administration and has a very low down side.

He should go back on the Jay Leno Show, that is more his expertise.

Lawrence O’Donnell Reduces Eric Cantor to Babbling:
Why isn’t THIS news story on this site?? O’Donnell will probably get a Pulitzer for it. Especially since Cantor voted for the tax! A HUGE NO, NO for the Rethuglican’ts! And then of course could not give a straight forward yes or no to the question on national TV! He looked precisely like the “deer in the headlights” all the Rethugs look like lately. This is FAR more of a deserving story of hypocricy than what junk is on this hate site! You should see the video, it’s so comical you almost feel sorry for Cantor. NOT!
Brian Cohoon drew our attention to a clip( http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036677/vp/29783264#29783264 ) from MSNBC’s Morning Joe, where Lawrence O’Donnell subjects Eric Cantor to some sort of reporting-like substance, effortlessly reducing Cantor to nonsense.

Basically, O’Donnell asks Cantor a straight question: “Are you going to vote for the ‘tax seizure bill’?” That’s the bill introduced by Charles Rangel that would recover these AIG bonuses that threaten to bring civilization to its knees. Cantor’s basic answer is no, but the roundabout evasions are a heaven-sent melange of tongue-tripping malarkey: “LISTEN,” Cantor purrs, “I am for whatever we can do right now to get that money back into the Treasury.” Except that “whatever we can do right now” isn’t, as it turns out, a PLAN. What follows, roughly paraphrased from the original Cantorese, is this: “But uhm, WHY ARE WE HERE TO BEGIN WITH … and the Rangel bill is terrible tax policy … but I will get those bonus payments back, with NECROMANCY, or I’ll pass a bill that requires Tim Geithner to figure all of this out, on pain of death or something.”
O’Donnell summarizes: “What you’re telling us today is that you have no idea how to get the money back, we’d like to ask the Treasury Secretary to do it. We will not vote for Charlie Rangel’s tax proposal.” Then they argue some more. Finally, out of nowhere, you hear Joe Scarborough say, “He’s going to vote FOR it!” But Scarborough has nothing in all the world upon which to base this conclusion.
Anyway, Eric Cantor, the guy just oozes leadership. Probably from a weepy pustule.

Commit yourself to spending a few minutes of quiet time each day THINKING about rational approaches to problem solving, rather than swallowing someone else’s opinion whole, then regurgitating it. If common sense doesn’t grace your door, go back to school and get educated. You may have missed something during that 4 year nap you took. Talking is not coddling and we have NOT been talking with them since 1983. In fact, the previous administration made it a point NOT to talk to them. Judging from the results that tactic has not worked very well.

If the premise is right diplomacy should be considered as part of the approach. Some one will need to demonstrate that those in Charge “share a common dream of peace.” History indicates otherwise.

Let’s tackle some of the commentaries I’m seeing in this thread.

This video displays Obama’s naivitae: First off, I’ve seen no one who’s leveled this charge explain exactly what’s so naive about offering to engage in diplomacy. And in fact, I would argue that it actually benefits us greatly to do this. Iran has come back today with statements that they’ll only talk if the US stops accusing them of developing nuclear weapons and supporting terrorism. Thanks to Obama’s video message, it has now been clearly illustrated to the world that the US is open to diplomacy while Iran, based on it’s response, is not. This will be extremely useful if relations between our nations continue to deteriorate, and we need more cooperation from the rest of the world.

Another charge is that this gesture from Obama means he’s “backing down” and showing “weakness”: Frankly, I’ve never viewed being open to dialogue and showing respect to be examples of “weakness”. In fact, I tend to believe that taking the high road generally requires far more strength and integrity than immediately resorting to threats and violence does. Especially when you consider that we’ve tried extreme sabre-rattling for the past 8 years, and it’s gotten us nowhere.

Aside from these charges, there have been others claiming Obama is a Muslim plant in our government. My only response to this is that anyone who makes this claim is dangerously stupid.

I knew what Zero was all about just 3 days into his rule. What kind of person goes out of his way to start the butcher shop on babies going full tilt just 3 days after he has the power. He is evil. He is spending BILLIONS all around the world to kill the most innocent among us. He has the morals of an animal. Maybe he is showing the musilms he can be as cold about killing as they can. His heart is as black as coal.God forgive the people who gave him that power.

I watched all two hours….It was great and totally reinforces my idea of what I call the “MediaOCRACY…now I have real info, not just street sense from the 50’s watching as a child the media program all, err,….most of us…

Wall Street’s financial woes, and the MediaOcracy’s coverage thereof, offers more proof that my theory that America is governed by the media is still true. Just as the word “democracy” means rule by the people, MediaOcracy means rule by the media, and I see this time and time again in almost every aspect of our daily lives.

What does it take to rule America? Well, first off, you’ve got to have money. So who is behind the MediaOcracy?

Well, the FOX TV network and FOX News are owned by billionaire Rupert Murdoch’s Newscorp. NBC and MSNBC are owned by General Electric, one of the nation’s largest companies. ABC is owned by Disney, and CBS is owned by communications giant Viacom. CNN is a part of Time Warner, also an industry leader.

Their fortunes lend them an undeserved air of legitimacy, when in actuality they’re a legitimacy is more aligned with all to many I met in prison. As a matter of fact…at least we KNOW those whose guilt has been proclaimed DO sit in prison. I think there is room for many who are more discerning than us mere mortals.

So much for the media representing the views of the common man or woman.

In fact, these billion-dollar corporations have a vested interest in making the political process as contentious and controversial as they can. They make tens of millions of dollars each year from selling ads to political candidates.

Even the most incompetent political candidate can win an election by spreading his wealth, in the form of paid advertising, with the sleaze purveyors in television, a close election makes the $ stretch even more.

So what does this have to do with our current economic crisis?

Simply put, the media benefits from things staying the way they are. If there’s no bailout and America’s economy is badly shaken then these giant corporations, concerned with profits over decency, stood to lose billions.

The status quo, with two warring political parties, benefits large financiall the MediaCrats and their boob tube cash cow. Scurrilous reporters ready-made stories of often-manufactured conflict.

These privately held companies are held accountable to no one. Talk about Beyond Puke!

The Machine that makes this all go is a vehicle whose wheels are the first amendment, or the abuse thereof, ..

The Engine is the culdture of Celebrity and Victims celebrated,

The Gas…that makes this MediaOcracy GO….simole, it’s the media….

I’m simply embarrassed.

I value words, without a higher education…just a higher mindset.
