Without his Liberal buddies passing legislation Big Al’s not going to make the big $$$$ he’s been counting on. The Liberals are on board because they’re hoping to cash in too! They have to act fast because weather is doing what it always does — it’s changing!

The Global Warming hysteria reminds me of the AIDS panic about 20 years ago.

At first it was termed a “gay disease” and most people didn’t care. So a plot was hatched — not intentionally perhaps, but one which developed innocently over time — to create wide-spread fear in the heterosexual community so each of us would think that we were next.

Surgeon General C. Everett Koop called it the “Black Plague” — his exact words — predicting that it would wipe out 25 percent or more of the U.S. population. We were doomed, the government pretended.

If you don’t remember the panic then, the onslaught of newspaper stories, the covers of Newsweek and Time predicting the “end of sex” and morgues overflowing with the bodies of stricken heterosexuals, then you weren’t alive then, or possess a memory that goes back no further than what you had for breakfast.

As an habitual evil “denier” — whenever Washington sounds the alarm for any emergency which lines untold pockets with tax dollars — I looked around and doubted the “official” figures touted as evidence.

Where were the heterosexual cases among non-drug users? Where were the stories about the high-school quarterbacks on life-support, the repentant Don Juan’s languishing in hospices?

When there is a flu epidemic you hear people coughing, so why was there no evidence of “plague” in the heterosexual community?

STD cases were not down, so behaviors hadn’t changed. Magic Johnson seemed to the only publicly-reported case in the non-gay community (which constitutes most of us). The affliction didn’t seem to be sweeping Hollywood’s bed-hopping leading straight men, so the dire warning didn’t make sense.

And, in the same fashion, Global Warming doesn’t make sense now.

After the big AIDS scare began to subside due to lack of evidence (few if any heterosexual cases involving non-drug users were reported, despite the fervor to uncover them), we suddenly were hit with a new line of propaganda: “You probably have HIV, you just don’t know because it can take 20 years to show up!”

The disease didn’t wait 20 years for gay men, nor needle-sharing heroin addicts, but supposedly it was going to play out differently in heterosexuals, who would have to wait out the 20-year incubation period to learn of their death sentence.

Soon we’ll see the same type of excuses to explain away persisting cold weather, record freezes and ice-cap build-up. Like HIV, we’ll hear that “warming” is in remission. It’s present, but won’t show up for 20 years. And when it does, we’ll all die at once.

Questioning “evidence” by any public-funded entity claiming to save us with tax dollars is prudent. It’s not unpatriotic, or unsympathetic to the environment. I have positive proof that I — and millions like me — live greener than Al Gore in our everyday lives simply because we want to. We walk the talk. But we also remain skeptical of the so-called proof bandied about by grant-seekers, or a government which claims cap-and-trade will provide billions or trillions in tax revenue, when the concept defies logic in the real world.

(Note: This is not an indictment against AIDS research, which I support 100 percent. The disease is horrible beyond words, and claimed a good friend of mine. That said, it wasn’t the Black Plague for the general population, but rather a government-induced panic fed by false information that was “closed to debate,” to quote a recent Nobel Prize-winner.)
