McCain Slams Obama Over Earmarks: ‘So Much For The Promise Of Change’

“The measure has over 9,000 unnecessarily and wasteful earmarks. So much for the promise of change,. What are we doing here? Not only business as usual; an outrageous insult to the American people.”

“Earmarks” are simply BUDGETING. You earmark part of your paycheck for a car payment, for instance. They are purposely trying to muddy the water when they could have used to term “pork” which is not the same thing.

Of course it is earmarked. ALL spending is. What else are they gonna do, dump money on the street?

Obumbler   March 3rd, 2009 - 3:18 pm

I said no earmerks during my campaign, what do you not understand about that Trent, oh, that I lied

The fact that libs don’t have a problem with “earmarks”, “pork spending” etc. says A LOT about them. Is a company being investigated by the FBI and receiving $9MILLION dollars in PORK not bothersome to you?? You certainly prove the point that no matter what BO does, it’s just fine with you! Shameful!!!

Boycott Black Owned Businesses   March 3rd, 2009 - 3:46 pm

Since Bl@ck America almost unanimously voted for this traitor, it is time they are held accountable.

Boycott all the businesses they own and do not give your patronage to establishments which hire them.

Trent: “Earmarks” are simply BUDGETING. You earmark part of your paycheck for a car payment…

We know that, but you are missing the point Trent. The Question you should be asking is do you need a new car like a Ferrari and who is it for?

Red States Gobble Up Omnibus Earmarks:

McConnell, Shelby, Vitter, the “three Stooges”, where is their “Born-Again” fiscal conservatism now? Hypocrites! Aren’t these men the ring leaders who stood up in the Senate vehemently opposed to spending?

Top 10 Pork States: 7 RED States & 3 BLUE States
Top 20 Pork States: 14 RED States & 6 BLUE States

So, who are the REAL pigs at the trough?

Six of the top ten “Earmakers”;
Shelby (R-AL), Cochran (R-MS), Bond (R-MO), Murkowski (R-AK), McConnell (R-KY), Inhofe (R-OK)

Didn’t McCain promise to make them famous?

If it’s budget time, it’s good to be a red state. And it’s very good to be Mississippi.

According to an analysis by the nonpartisan Taxpayers for Common Sense, Mississippi has won the earmark contest in the omnibus budget package.

Mississippi Republican Sen. Thad Cochran led his colleagues by raking in more than $470 million in 204 earmarks. Mississippi’s junior Republican, Roger Wicker, pulled in more than $390 million. The totals can’t be added together because the figure includes earmarks each received solo and with others, so the same earmark could be in both senators’ column. Cochran, on his own, pulled in roughly $76 million and Wicker brought home $4 million.

Cochran’s $76 million ranks him sixth among solo earmarkers. (Earmarks can be requested individually, with other members of Congress or along with the president.)

Senate Democrats and Republican ate roughly the same amount from the government trough on a solo basis, although Democrats have one and half times as many members. Democratic members secured about $677 million in individual earmarks; Republicans brought home $669 million. Those solo figures, however, don’t tell the entire story, because about six billion more was requested by groups of lawmakers.

For solo earmarks, nobody beat out Sen. Bob Byrd (D-W.Va.), last year’s appropriations committee chairman. The defender of earmarks took home $123 million. Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) came in second, with $114 million. Sen. Kit Bond (R-Mo.) rounded out the top three, bringing home $86 million by himself.

Republican leader Mitch McConnell is bringing $51 million back to Kentucky and Democratic leader Harry Reid earmarked $27 million for Nevada. They ranked tenth and seventeenth, respectively.

Louisiana did well, too. Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu took in the third-most joint and solo earmarks, bringing home $332 million for local projects. Her Republican colleague, Sen. David Vitter, pulled down the fifth-most at $249 million.

The Louisianans straddled Iowa Democrat Tom Harkin, the chairman of the agriculture committee, who brought back $292 million.

Rural and small-state voters were the big winners on an absolute and on a per capita basis, even though it was big states and urban areas that have delivered Congress and the White House to Democrats. Of the top ten earmarking senators, only Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.; $77 million solo; $235 combined), represents a large state and only three of the top ten are blue states. In the top 20, only six blue states are represented.

Bravo Sen. McCain Bravo. But why couldn’t you get this angry when it counted. Your lack of outrage is why we’re here now!

Blue Mule   March 3rd, 2009 - 5:15 pm

Brother I wish you would have been so direct in the fall. Watching my retirement pass gas since the end of Jan. has made me angry. If I needed it now I would be broke. I hope you get more than angry-(real angry) to shed light on the silly mess of things these days.

racerx   March 3rd, 2009 - 5:31 pm

See the problem, John, is that you’ve got to be able to do more than just get mad. You’ve got to have a good head on your shoulders. Unfortunately that was not one of your gifts at birth. Then you’ve also got to be able to win elections. Well you’ve done pretty well in that arena, but not enough to convince the majority of Americans to vote for you. Third, John, you’re a big hypocrite with your eight or ten thousand dollar – 100 percent disability check you receive EVERY MONTH.

Yet, you opposed the new version of the GI Bill. Also you remember those thousands of jobs you sent to Europe last year – rather than just staying out of the way and letting Boeing have it. See John we know the head of your campaign was a big lobbyist for the European company – but didn’t you once think about the thirty thousand jobs you were sending abroad. I’m sure you got a nice kickback in some form or another. Listen, John, we’ve heard what you’ve had to say – and all in all – the American people just aren’t buying what you are saying. Please take your warn-out war stories and your phony self-righteous outrage and hit the road. Let’s not even talk about the MIAS & POWS you left behind!

America…Senator McCain should not be the only politician standing up and saying this…they all should be.

And for those of you in America who are happy because you are getting a “piece of the pie”…wake up…their is no pie…we had to borrow that pie…our children and our grandchildren will be paying for that little “piece of the pie” for generations to come. Is that what you want?

Stand up and sacrifice…tell your representatives that you don’t want them to bring home any more earmarks…you want the entire country to be well off not just your state.

America…we can’t be selfish…we have to think about the good for the whole of our nation not just our state.

Senator McCain tried to pass legislation to get rid of these earmarks today…it was defeated in the Senate…only the Republicans voted for it.

Call and email your represenatives and tell them to stop it and stop it now!

Forgive me, GML, going to butt in here hehe

racerx is a typical liberal. Had I posted a Fox news item, etc… they would have just dismissed it out of hand. Instead some tard posts a HuffPo piece and insists if those facts are wrong, prove it to them. lol Can’t get any more brain damaged than that.

Since it was a HuffPo piece the person writing the article can frame that in whatever context he wished to use racerx you twit. Shall we go into the floods of last year all over the midwest? Want to discuss the national rural water system being put in? Want to discuss the size of the landmass covered relative to the population on said lands in as far as transportation and rails are considered?

Remove the head from your arse and try getting your own facts for yourself rather than letting the DNC spoonfeed you this crapola. If my posts sounds like I don’t respect liberals, well why would I after having listened to posts like yours for the last 8 years +.

Holy f*** racerx, you can’t really be that stupid are you?? Let’s say for argument’s sake that site is really non-partisan as you claim. The person WRITING the article is the one messing with that fragile goo of a mind you have. I can’t believe you really are this backward and retarded but then you’d fit right into the box I toss most liberal idealogues because you have zero freaking common sense.

A famous for instance for ya. George Bush on the aircraft carrier, big banner stretched out behind him saying Mission Accomplished. Well rather than listen to the words Bush spoke, i.e., the end of major hostilities, you nutjobs go out off the deep end accusing him of stating the war has ended. *shakes head* Now maybe you see how your fragile, empty minds only fill up with ideas you want to absorb…to hell with common sense and logic. lol

racerx   March 4th, 2009 - 10:49 am

Sundowner, I think it’s a mistake to completely avoid publications, programs, and people that one tends to disagree with. Yeah, maybe I’m not generally a big fan of say of Fox News, but if I won’t even give Fox a second look because of who they are on a particular issue or article – that means I’ve closed my mind to the possibility of a different way of thinking. Yes, I might approach a known conservative program with more bias – than another – but I will at least try to see beyond my bias and weigh what is being said. Most of the time, sure I disagree, but occasionally I realize I was really wrong on something, maybe very wrong on something. But as hippy-dippy as it sounds: How else does one learn but by making a few mistakes? And just because I disagree with you most of the time, it doesn’t mean I can’t learn anything from you, f*cker!

Eileen for Freedom/Liberty   March 4th, 2009 - 1:42 pm

America, the only change we want to see…is a change in the White House. We can legally remove this man from office by forcing him to reveal his original birth certificate!

America, rejoice, today is the day of new beginnings!

There are (15) Republican members of the Missouri General Assembly that are pushing a state constitutional amendment like a “voter’s bill of rights”.

It states: For candidates who are required by the Constitution of the United States to be natural born citizens, the secretary of state shall request an official copy of the candidate’s birth certificate. Other certifications, such as a certificate of live birth, shall not be accepted. Should any candidate fail to provide an official birth certificate within thirty days of the request by the secretary of state, his or her name shall not be placed on the ballot.

They are aiming at the State of Hawaii which has refused to release Saul Alinsky Obama’s ORIGINAL birth certificate not an official copy like was posted on the web.

Hooray for the “show me” State of Missouri.

America, it will take an official group and/or person to officially “request” this certificate as outlined in the Constitution. The Constitution calls for it…but if no one requests it…it doesn’t do any good.

America…put the pressure on your representatives and tell them to stand up and ask for it!
=======================
AMERICA…PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION!

America…this is our “ace in the hole” the birth certificate…this might be the official way to legally remove Saul Alinsky Obama from office.

Remember the (2) active duty soldiers that have come forward to fight to see it and confirm their loyalty to an “official” President…that is all they are asking. Prove that he “is” officially their Commander n’ Chief.

Here is the article posted on World Net Daily on 2/26/09.

http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=89941

And pass this site on to friends and family so that they can get involved also!

=======================

Here is the post from the “active duty” soldier!
Serving You

Eileen for Freedom/Liberty

As a person that can’t speak out at the time due to my oath. I’m sure you will understand. I thank you for what you are doing. We are watching that petition every day. Keep it up and you will see true defenders of our Constitution take action. Stop now and we will be crucified before we get moving. We need your help to get the momentum rolling on this issue or we will not see resolution until its to late. When there is enough momentum to succeed you will have your resolution. Stop short and you’ll be squashed.

Article II Section one:

No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty five years, and been fourteen Years a resident within the United States.

Good luck and God bless America.
