626 Words Per Minute: Little Time to Read 1,073-Page Stimulus Before Debate

"Democrats made the bill available at 11 p.m. on Thursday night. At 9 a.m. Friday morning, the House begins debate on the bill. If members of Congress actually took the time to read the bill, they would have to read through the night at a rate of 626 words per minute before heading to the House floor. What are the odds of that happening?"

AMERICA…WATCH THE DEBATE ON THE STIMULUS BILL THIS MORNING…FRIDAY…2/13…AT 10:00 AM EST. DON’T DEPEND ON THE MEDIA, THESE BLOGS AND/OR ANYONE ELSE TO TELL YOU WHAT IS GOING ON…HEAR IT FOR YOURSELF!
=======================================================

America…late last night the Democrats finally presented to the Senate and House Members a copy of the 700+ page “stimulus” bill that was agreed to by the House/Senate Conference. Each and every member is expected to read this bill and understand it in it’s entirety in order to VOTE ON IT TODAY!

It is a bill that is complex and written like a legal document. Have you ever tried to read a legal document? How about 700+ pages in just a few hours and then be expected to make an “informed” decision to saddle your children and grandchildren with a debt so high it can never hope to be repaid.

A debt that will come about because we have to “borrow” that money from “another” country…we don’t even have the money we are spending. A debt that, again, puts us at the mercy of another “country”!

Add to that the little we do know about this bill….$300 million for “green” golf like cars, millions for food stamps, the tax credit for buying an auto…scrapped, aid to NASA for climate research, funds for disadvantaged children at Head Start, and electronic tracking of our medical care by the government….America what is any of this doing for business that needs to create the jobs the Democrats promised?

I heard that Harry Reid, dropped in at the last moment, $8 billion to build a railroad from California to Las Vegas (his home state) . Doesn’t that sound like an “earmark” project“…something the President says is not in this bill?

In addition, we won’t see most of any benefit for the rest of the year. If there is some relief, it won’t be felt in the job segment until 2 or 3 years down the road.

America…this bill is being pushed down the throats by a President who should know how things work in the Congress. Should know, but we have to remember that most times while “he” was a Senator he voted “present” not even getting involved in the process or the vote.

Each “one” of the items in this bill (if they could be understood in just a couple of hours), should be read in it’s entirety, understood in it’s entirety, and then discussed in it’s entirety and streamlined and polished before any one of item should come up for a vote. That is the responsible way that Congress should do a bill.

This is an unconscionable and irresponsible act foisted upon the American people and our descendants by the Democrats and the President.

We need to tell each and every one of them in the Senate, in the House and the President that we, the American people, WILL HOLD THEM PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ADDITIONAL FINANCIAL BURDEN THEY ARE PUTTING UPON US….THAT WE WILL NOT FORGET WHAT THEY HAVE DONE AND ARE DOING TO OUR COUNTRY AND OUR ECONOMY.

America….Sec of the Treasury Paulson told us before the bailout…if we didn’t allow them to have over $750 billion dollars…our economy would fail.

The government, and the Congress, gave them the money and it didn’t work…and this one won’t work either.

FOOL ME ONCE…SHAME ON YOU!

FOOL ME TWICE…SHAME ON ME!

America…members of all parties are voting on this bill.

There are members of all parties that are showing complete irresponsibility by voting for this bill against the wishes of the American people who have called/emailed their offices and voiced their opinions on not voting for this bill.

Then there are true American politicians (in all parties) who are listening to the American people and will vote “no” on the passage of this “earmarked – pork” bill because it is bad for America.

AMERICA…CALL/EMAIL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES AND THE WHITE HOUSE AND TELL THEM HOW YOU FEEL AGAIN. WE WANT A “NO” VOTE ON THIS BILL. WE WANT THEM TO FOCUS ON WHAT GOT US INTO THIS MESS IN THE FIRST PLACE…HOUSING AND BANKING.

WE WANT THEM TO GO BACK TO THE TABLE AND START OVER. PREPARE A BILL THAT WILL DEAL WITH OUR HOUSING AND BANKING.CRISIS.

CONGRESS PASSED LEGISLATION TO PROVIDE LOW INTEREST LOANS —- “BECAUSE EVERYONE IN AMERICA SHOULD HAVE A HOUSE EVEN THOUGH THEY DID NOT HAVE THE MEANS TO PAY FOR IT“! THEY DID NOT HAVE TO HAVE A “DOWN PAYMENT” – IT WAS FREE FOR NOTHING!

THAT “NOTHING” AMERICA HAS COST US ALL DEARLY AND THE POLITICIANS NEED TO KNOW WE KNOW WHO IS TO BLAME HERE AND WE KNOW WHO NEEDS TO FIX IT AND HOW.

WE WANT THEM TO FOCUS ON CORRECTING THE MISTAKES THEY MADE IN THE PAST ON THE HOUSING AND BANKING.

THAT IS SOMETHING THEY CAN WORK ON. THAT IS SOMETHING THEY CAN FOCUS ON…DEBATE…POLISH AND THEN VOTE ON A HOUSING/BANKING BILL….NOT THIS GARBAGE!

THE POSSIBLE BENEFITS OF THIS “STIMULUS” BILL WILL NOT EVEN BE SEEN FOR AT LEAST A YEAR, IF THEN.

SO WHY THE HURRY? WHY NOT SCRAP IT AND START NEXT WEEK ON A “BI-PARTISAN” HOUSING/BANKING BILL THAT WE CAN LIVE WITH?

=========================

AMERICA WE ARE THE BOSS OF THE GOVERNMENT. WE ELECTED THEM TO REPRESENT US AND OUR VIEWS ON WHAT SHOULD BE DONE.

WE KNOW WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE ,AND IT DOES NOT AGREE WITH WHAT THEY ARE DOING.

TELL THEM AGAIN…DON’T GIVE UP…DON’T STOP…THEY NEED TO HEAR IT UNTIL THEY GET IT!

=================================================

WE ARE THE NECK THAT TURNS THAT HEAD AND WE NEED THAT HEAD TURNED IN OUR DIRECTION NOT TOWARDS BIGGER GOVERNMENT AND INTERVENTION IN OUR LIVES!

Just hell in the world are these voters who voted for these clowns going to be able to face their children and grandchildren when it comes time for them to pay for this madness?

This is the biggest scam ever be perpetrated upon the American people. Where is the outrage? The democrats are corrupt, sleezy politicians who have made sure that no one is fully away of everything in this bill. The worst tragedy will be the health care scam. When your elderly loved ones are denied treatment, thank Obama and his democratic congress for taking away your right to health care. I have called and e-mailed my senators numerous times but they’re both democrats, so it does no good. This is an abomination. Not even any valid criticism from the mainstream media. I am sickened by all of it. Eileen, keep up the good fight, your sentiments reflect those of conservatives who love their country and don’t want it destroyed.

Why bother giving the Republicans more time? They have no say anymore! It does not matter if they agree with it or not, the Democrats have the votes needed for it to pass.

You dug this grave yourselves Republicans. Blame yourselves, rebuild what once was a respectable party, and try again in eight years.

Eileen need not apply!   February 13th, 2009 - 12:37 pm

Don,
Most of these Repubtards can only read their Bible anyway so why give them more time? If they don’t know what’s in it by now, what have they been doing for the last month?

This is also why you have a “staff” and hire people who graduate from colleges where reading skills are important (NOT Liberty College) so that they can screen the bills for you.

Congressional Offices Don’t Have the Stimulus Bill, Lobbyists Do
February 12, 2009 04:14 PM ET

By Paul Bedard, Washington Whispers

We’re receiving E-mails from Capitol Hill staffers expressing frustration that they can’t get a copy of the stimulus bill agreed to last night at a price of $789 billion. What’s more, staffers are complaining about who does have a copy: K Street lobbyists. E-mails one key Democratic staffer: “K Street has the bill, or chunks of it, already, and the congressional offices don’t. So, the Hill is getting calls from the press (because it’s leaking out) asking us to confirm or talk about what we know—but we can’t do that because we haven’t seen the bill. Anyway, peeps up here are sort of a combo of confused and like, ‘Is this really happening?’” Reporters pressing for details, meanwhile, are getting different numbers from different offices, especially when seeking the details of specific programs.

Worse, there seem to be several different versions of what was agreed upon, with some officials circulating older versions of the package that seems to still be developing. Leadership aides said that it will work out later today and promised that lawmakers will get time to review the bill before Friday’s vote.

—————————–

HURRY, FELLAS, LET’S VOTE, I AM OFF TO ROME!
Fri Feb 13 2009 09:18:52 ET

Rep. John Culberson, TX claims the “stimulus” bill must be urgently voted on today — because Speaker Nancy Pelosi is leaving at 6:00 PM for an 8 day trip to Europe!

Culberson made the charge on Houston’s KSEV radio.

Pelosi is hoping to lead a delegation to Europe; there’s a meeting with the Pope and an award from an Italian legislative group.

Calls to Pelosi’s spokesman went unreturned.

In the rushing, Democrats have now broken their promise to have the public see the $790 billion bill for 48 hours before any vote.

Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) predicted that none of his Senate colleagues would ‘have the chance’ to read the entire final version of the 1,071-page bill before it comes up for a final vote.

anti gun stimulis bill   February 13th, 2009 - 2:58 pm

From Magic City Morning Star

Editor’s Desk
Under Cover of a “Stimulus” Bill, Congress Seeks to Overturn the Second Amendment
By Ken Anderson
Feb 12, 2009 – 10:41:20 AM

In a Bill introduced on the first day of the present session of Congress, with no coverage from the mainstream media, H.R. 45 (Blair Holt’s Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009) targets gun owners in the United States. While everyone’s attention was on the bogus “stimulus” plan to print and spend trillions of tax dollars, this legislation is worming its way through the House and Senate.

This Bill will strip us of the rights granted by the 2nd Amendment of our Constitution. It requires the registration of all new guns during the first two years after enactment. After two years, the new law goes retroactive, mandating that all firearms in a citizen’s possession be registered, not just those purchased after the enactment of the law. This apparently applies to antique firearms as well.

Under the provisions of the Bill, gun owners will be required to go through a complete renewal process every five years, any failure to comply carrying stiff penalties which would include the confiscation of the firearms and jail time, with penalties as high as ten years in some cases. The Bill also authorizes government searches without a warrant, creating a new federal bureaucracy to monitor the possession of firearms by citizens of the United States.

Blair Holt’s Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009 was introduced on January 6, 2009, amending the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act to prohibit a person from owning a firearm unless that person has been issued a firearm license under this Act, or by a state system certified under the Act. It also prescribes the application, issuance, and renewal requirements.

The new law will also prohibit the transfer of a firearm unless the recipient possesses a valid firearms license, the license is verified, and the dealer (or private citizen) records a tracking authorization number.

Under the new law, the following would be a crime:

The transfer of a firearm to any person other than a licensee unless that transfer is processed through a licensed dealer in accordance with national instant criminal background check system requirements, with exceptions;
Licensed manufacturers or dealers failing to comply with reporting and record keeping requirements of this Act;
Failing to report the loss or theft of a firearm to the Attorney General within 72 hours; and
Keeping a loaded firearm, or an unloaded firearm with ammunition, knowingly or recklessly disregarding the risk that a child is capable of gaining access, if a child should use the firearm and cause death or serious bodily injury;
The law prescribes criminal penalties for violations of the firearms provisions covered by this Act, directing the Attorney General to:

Establish and maintain a firearm injury information clearinghouse;
Conduct continuing studies and investigations of firearm-related deaths and injuries; and
Collect and maintain current production and sales figures of each licensed manufacturer, authorizing the Attorney General to certify state firearm licensing or record of sale systems.
We should also keep in mind that, as with any other law; once enacted, the restrictions can be expected to be made more rigid at every pretense. Whenever anyone in the nation is harmed by a firearm, we can anticipate that additional restrictions will be placed into the law.

While our legislators generally spend their time representing someone other than their constituents, this might be a good time to contact them.

LK   February 13th, 2009 - 3:01 pm

Maybe Pelosi is rushing to Rome to educate the Pope on her abortion views! Wouldn’t it be lovely and fitting, if when she bent over to kiss his ring he whispered in her ear she was going straight to hell?

The stimulus debacle is going to haunt you Nancy! Since Obama thinks there is no more war on terror I’ll really don’t see the need for you to have a private plane! (Everyone should complain about the waste of taxpayers money for this UNNEEDED perk!)

Don: Last night at around midnight I was FINALLY able to download over 100M of poorly-scanned, hand-marked pages (which, because they were images, could not be text-scanned). It was absolutely impossible to ascertain even the highest summary level of information by the time I was exhausted. Even with a caffeine-pumped young staff working ’til dawn, you would not be able to assemble a useful evaluation of this package. And you and your party have the AUDACITY to support this and call it a victory?

It’s not a question of “giving Republicans more time” — it’s a question of all the members being able to do ANY homework at all to understand how the entire spending power of the U.S. Treasury will be exhausted over the coming year.

“The Democrats have the votes needed for it to pass.” That’s it? That’s the mark of statesmanship by the ruling party? Do you even have the slightest clue what’s in this? Worse yet, does the President have the slightest clue? Actually, I seriously doubt it — regardless of his intentions or desires, he has NO IDEA what this package will implement. Where, for example, does it address the mortgage crisis? Since I read the housing provisions, AND NEITHER YOU NOR YOUR SAVIOR DID, I’ll tell you and your “victorious” Dem partners: IT DOESN’T!! Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) said it best: “We all cast our votes with one hand and crossed our fingers with the other.” God help us.

Americans of ALL POLITICAL STRIPES: we need to make it clear that you do NOT “cross your fingers” and spend my money that way.

All Americans should go to Pelosi’s website and download and read the portions of this PORKULUS Document that pertains to them, *especially* the “HEALTH RECOVERY BILL” (pdf file). Do a few word searches to help you find the parts that will cause your BLOOD TO BOIL!!

Suggested word searches:
health records
security breach
personally identifiable information
sale of electronic health records

etc. etc.
Use your imagination and wend your way thru this document of deception!

P.S. Don’t be surprised if you soon have to start PAYING THE FEDS A FEE TO OBTAIN YOUR OWN HEALTH RECORDS–IF, THAT IS, THEY WILL EVEN ALLOW YOU TO ACCESS YOUR OWN RECORDS! Sounds like this whole thing is just to ENABLE THE DATAMINERS TO GET RICHER THAN EVER ON OUR PRIVATE INFO, and ENABLE THE GOVERNMENT TO SPY ON & CONTROL EVERY DETAIL OF OUR PRIVATE LIVES..

By the way, those colorful computerized health records will be USELESS to anyone who asks them to be FAXED or PHOTOCOPIED, because they are in nice primary colors like red, yellow and blue, and they do NOT fax/photocopy worth a damn! GOOD LUCK!

THEY WENT AHEAD WITH IT ANYHOW AND WENT AGAINST THE WISHES OF THE AMERICAN TAXPAYERS AND THEY WILL PAY DEARLY IN THE NEXT ELECTION.

THEY WILL REMEMBER EACH DAY UNTIL THEN BECAUSE EACH DAY WE WILL SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES OF THIS LEGISLATION.
