Obama Caps Executive Pay: Americans Upset ‘Executives Being Rewarded For Failure’

AP: The executive-pay move comes amid a national outcry over huge bonuses to executives heading companies seeking taxpayer dollars to remain afloat. The demand for limits was reinforced by revelations that Wall Street firms paid more than $18 billion in bonuses in 2008 even amid the economic downturn and the massive infusion of taxpayer dollars.

More hypocrisy from the Messiah:
Cap the execs but the Dems in the House vote for a raise….

Eagle Eye   February 4th, 2009 - 1:01 pm

Yea, the current CEO and managers of once prosperous companies that the government forced to lend bad loans, now will quit and let the companies fail at O’s expense. They will pull their money out of markets because they know taxes are going to go up and only unqualified people will take their positions for $ 5oo,ooo. dollars a year. Watch the landslide begin and watch the government take over every major corporation and bankrupt them in the process

worst_messiah_ever   February 4th, 2009 - 1:02 pm

and the “O” in “WORSE” will be that stupid logo.

Eagle Eye

You have it right on.

Azul Del Fuego   February 4th, 2009 - 1:48 pm

If these execs are pu55y enough to accept a government handout, then their mommy (the government) can set their allowance anyway they want to. Isn’t that the definition of socialism? What I hope the execs do for their failed companies is declare bankruptcy, reorganize, resign (if they or their management style was the problem), downsize, and grow the business correctly. If at all possible, I will not buy from any company that accepts a government bailout.

Will   February 4th, 2009 - 1:59 pm

The CEO of Wells Fargo did refuse the money since they are not in trouble.That is until he was cornered and forced to take it.
Make no mistake.This is like a mafia take over .

I B Down wif It   February 4th, 2009 - 4:50 pm

Hey, a new slogan for our leader:
“Yo, Busta Cap on Executive Pay”.
But hey, just ’cause Michelle be gittin’ some grandious “bling” at that there hospital she be werkin’ at fo $350Gs…well sheeeet, that don’ mean nufin’. We need to Busta Cap on only that wh_te man’s executive pay. Know um sayin’?

Texan 2   February 4th, 2009 - 5:08 pm

Companies that accepted the bailout should man up and give back Barry Hussein the Socialist our money and tell him to wrap it around a sharp stick and sit on it.

Give me a break!   February 4th, 2009 - 5:09 pm

Let’s see if I got this straight. Some dope of a CEO that led his company to near bankruptcy may “quit” because his salary is capped.

HaHaHaHa!

Tell me where is Bozo the CEO going to go and who is going to miss this fool who thinks that he/she is STILL entitled to a large bonus even after he/she led his/her company to near ruin. There is a lot of good talent out there willing to give it a shot if these prima donnas go. Maybe a turnover is just what we need.

Gee, Will, is this CEO of Wells Fargo the same genius who scheduled a four day “mortgage meeting” in Vegas for his cronies? He recently had to cancel because of this “taxpayer” money thing. Maybe the Mafia SHOULD take over some of these banks. At least then there would be accountability (and some of these jackasses would “disappear” in the desert).

By the way, NO ONE forced these clowns to do anything. This mortgage crisis is NOT because some Democrats “forced” the banks into sub prime loans. They gladly went into that mess and compounded it with credit default swaps because they were making nice money doing so. It is only after the whole thing collapsed that they got stuck and tried to find someone else to blame (and bail them out).

ilikefood   February 4th, 2009 - 5:38 pm

I really like Obama and I voted for him, but this is a bad, disappointing move, that simply caters to populist stupidity. What all those people complaining about bonuses don’t understand is that:

1. The bulk of Wall St. bonuses goes to rank-and-file employees, not to big execs. For those people, it’s part of total compensation that people rely on. It’s called a “bonus” but it’s not really an extra because the base salary is typically lower. In any other industry it wouldn’t be a bonus but simply a higher salary.

2. There’s no way that smart, experienced execs will run those banks for $500,000/year. There are other companies and other industries where they can make much more money, or they can start their own investment funds or whatever. So the banks will be run by second-rate execs, and as a result go out of business.

Cognitive Dissident   February 4th, 2009 - 6:26 pm

This is perhaps the BEST thing Obama’s done yet!

1) This is only for banks that voluntarily accept a bail-out.

2) These banks may still give their Execs a bonus of STOCK, that is unlimited in quantity and ONLY limited by this rule: Excecs cannot sell the stock UNTIL the bail-out amount has been paid back!

Now that is DARN GOOD REGULATION!!!! :)

LK   February 4th, 2009 - 7:07 pm

Mr. Obama, know what’s more upsetting than executives being rewarded for failure?

You’re using tax dollars via the stimulus to PAYOFF ACORN, unions and non-taxpaying votes for VOTES DELIVERED AND CAST! You’re not fooling anyone!

Drano   February 4th, 2009 - 7:14 pm

Good idea but since he is not a legitimate president does it carry the weight of law? They should sue on those grounds.
Until he demonstrates he meets the constitutional requirements for citizenship he is not legally the president of the United States.

jbh50   February 4th, 2009 - 9:21 pm

Lets put a cap on Congress salaries and perks. Their pension alone will be way into the 6 figures.

Oh yea, I forgot. We are now living under the “good for you, but not for me” regime imposed by Obamination.

Duncan   February 4th, 2009 - 11:06 pm

Its Not Enough
When will these shysters be taken away in shackles ?
Why CANT they account for the $ in the first baleout?
WHERE DID IT GO?

THE REPUBLICANS FINALLY ACTING LIKE LEADERS!
========================

Just saw Senator Lindsay Graham being interviewed and he came down strong on the Democrats and the President for lack of leadership.

That the Democrats are crafting this bill on their own and not listening to the rest of the Congress.

Just a little overview on how the government spent our first $750 billion taxpayer dollars.
===================================

REPORTED ON BREITBART TODAY…2/5/09

WASHINGTON (AP) – A government watchdog group says the federal government overpaid for stocks and other assets from financial institutions under its $700 billion rescue program.

The chairwoman of the Congressional Oversight Panel for the bailout funds told the Senate Banking committee Thursday that Treasury in 2008 paid $254 billion and received assets worth about $176 billion.

================
NOW DO YOU WANT THEM TO SPEND MORE OF OUR MONIES?…PLEASE CALL/EMAIL YOUR SENATORS AND THEM THEM ‘NO’!

Islam Islam Islam Schmidt   February 5th, 2009 - 2:39 pm

That looks like another Communist idea from B-HO to me. It was Barney and Todd who caused most of this mess. Why not cap them?

Eileen for Freedom/Liberty   February 5th, 2009 - 6:15 pm

Harry Reid says (2/5 – 6:15 pm est) they are going to work through the night to get a bill to vote on….AMERICA….THIS PACKAGE SHOULD NOT BE PASSED IN ANY FORM!

IT IS GARBAGE…GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION…GARBAGE!

THE SOCIALIST DEMOCRATS ARE TRYING TO RAM THIS DOWN THE THROATS OF AMERICANS AND I FOR ONE AM NOT GOING TO STAND BY IDLY AND LET IT HAPPEN.

CALL/EMAIL YOUR SENATORS NOW…RIGHT NOW…AND LOAD UP THEIR OFFICES WITH “YOUR” VOTE…THEY ARE FEAR MONGERING AND THREATENING AMERICAN CITIZENS TO LIE DOWN AND LET THE FREEDOM OF YOUR VOICE DIE…DON’T LET IT HAPPEN…DO IT NOW!

Eileen for Freedom/Liberty   February 5th, 2009 - 10:00 pm

Apparently, Ole Harry Reid doesn’t know what it means to “burn the midnight oil”!

He misled us…said they’d work through the night…not!

He went home! Hope he reads his emails and gets the number of calls that came into his office today!

KEEP IT UP AMERICA…KEEP CALLING…KEEP EMAILING…IT ISN’T OVER YET! LET’S SHOW THEM WHOSE BOSS AND WHAT WE WANT…NO STIMULUS NOW OR IN THE FUTURE!

Eileen for Freedom/Liberty   February 6th, 2009 - 10:13 am

Eileen for Freedom/Liberty   February 6th, 2009 - 3:12 pm

The debate on the stimulus goes on right now 2/6(3:10 pm est) on CSPAN 2 – it is very, very interesting…right now a dialogue between Dodd, Schumer and Graham about housing…please tune in and hear it for yourself!

Eileen for Freedom/Liberty   February 6th, 2009 - 8:18 pm

CSPAN-2 ON NOW (8:00 pm est 2/6) watch the politicians speak…on the stimulus…watch it and be informed!
================================

America they need 60 votes to pass this monster of a bill.

Two Republicans are voting with the Democrats. They are Arlen Spector of PA and Collins of ME…call…email them and tell them they must stand united with the rest of their party.

This bill must not pass…it will not help our economy…it will destroy it!

In addition, to calling/emailing Collins and Spector…and if you haven’t done so already…call/email your Senators to say “no”!

They will not vote tonight, but it may be Sunday. You still have the weekend to get your voices heard.

The bailout did not help like they said…and this one won’t either.

These politicians are crazy…there is no way…no way…they can police this kind of money.

They lost millions of our taxpayer dollars in the bailout…don’t even know where it went…and we are to trust them again?

Let them give us a “tax holiday” where we pay no taxes out of our salaries…let US decide where it goes…we can keep track of that amount in our own pay.

Call/email…America…we need everyone to do it…I heard that the phones in Washington were inundated with calls…if the lines are busy keep calling til you get through.

AMERICA WE ARE THE NECK THAT TURNS THE HEAD…IT IS TIME WE TURNED THE HEAD TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE NOT TOWARDS A GOVERNMENT HANDOUT!

Eileen for Freedom/Liberty   February 7th, 2009 - 8:08 am

If you watched any of the Congressional discussions on CSPAN last night you heard the following:
==========================================
A GOOD AMENDMENT THAT DID “NOT” PASS…

Last night around midnight 2/6…an amendment was introduced that would have taken the “entire” stimulus package of over $800 billion and given it to American taxpayers who file taxes. It amounted to about $10,000 per couple and about $5,000 per individual .

Ten Thousand dollars could be used to buy a needed car, a down payment on a small house, pay off on a credit card… thereby getting directly into the system to stimulate our economy.

However, the amendment was defeated for good reason….because it was money that would have to be “borrowed”.

That wasn’t why it was defeated…it was really defeated because the Democrats would rather use the money for golf courses and water parks, etc.

ANOTHER AMENDMENT THAT DID PASS…

Another Amendment that was introduced was to “NOT” pay any monies (that amounts to millions of dollars) whatsoever to ACORN.

ACORN you remember was being investigated for illegal voting procedures that eventually put the new President over the top in the election.

The Democratic members resoundingly defeated that proposal.
===========================================

America…you need to watch this debates to know exactly what this bill is all about and how it will impact you.

Today, Saturday 2/7, they will begin on CSPAN 2 again at 11:00 a.m. est.

They will debate until about 3:00 pm est.

They don’t know whether or not they will meet again on Sunday, but on Monday they will begin again around 11:00 am est. to debate and then, perhaps, do the “VOTE” on Monday night.

Once they have a vote on a bill….they will conference with the House to debate.
=============================================

AMERICA……YOU MUST GET INVOLVED….THIS IS YOUR MONEY….THIS WILL BE YOUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN’S DEBT.

THE PHONES AND EMAILS ARE GOING OFF THE HOOK IN WASHINGTON BECAUSE “YOU” ARE CALLING/EMAILING…BUT WE NEED THE REST OF YOU TO DO YOUR PART FOR YOUR FAMILY…CONTINUE TO CALL AND EMAIL AND TELL THEM NO>>>NO>>>NO STIMULUS PACKAGE WHATSOEVER.

IF THE SKY IS FALLING EITHER WAY, WHAT DOES IT MATTER?

WE BORROW TRILLIONS AND PUT OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN IN DEBT AND TAKE A SHOT THAT IT WILL WORK – EVEN THOUGH THE BAILOUT DIDN’T

OR

WE CAN HANG TIGHT, TIGHTEN OUR BELTS AND WORK JUST ON HELPING THE HOUSING CRISIS THAT GOT US INTO THIS MESS IN THE FIRST PLACE AND TRUST THAT OUR SYSTEM WILL WEATHER THE STORM BUT WITHOUT ANY FURTHER DEBT!

==============================

AMERICA…WE ARE THE NECK THAT TURNS THE HEAD…IT IS HIGH TIME WE TURNED IT TOWARD THE AMERICAN TAXPAYER AND NOT A GOVERNMENT HANDOUT!

Eileen for Freedom/Liberty   February 7th, 2009 - 9:28 am

1. If you are a Republican

2. If you agree that this stimulus package, is garbage and needs to go the way of the dinosaur

3. If you think the Congress should concentrate on a stimulus bill that concentrates solely on the “housing” crisis that got us into this mess

4. If you are disgusted that (3) Republican Senators are voting with the Democrats to get this bill passed

Then call/email:

Collins of Maine
Snowe of Maine
Spector of Pennsylvania

And tell them to stop playing politics with our children and grandchildren’s future.

Tell them how you feel about possibly being the (3) votes that may give the Democrats the 60 votes they need to pass this garbage!

America…I for one…have had enough. I agree with bi-partisanshhip, but not in this case.

This bill is too big and too burdensome for the American taxpayer to take on.

I have already emailed them, and I also emailed the leader of the Republican National Committee (RNC.com) to express my displeasure…please do the same.

The Republicans have continually expressed in these debates that they feel the only stimulus we should have is for the “housing” industry…I agree.

The “housing” industry started this mess and that is what needs to be fixed….not water parks, ACORN and golf courses.

America…we need to get real in Washington…there is no change…there is only status quo.

THE PHONES AND EMAILS ARE GOING OFF THE HOOK IN WASHINGTON BECAUSE ‘YOU’ ARE CALLING/EMAILIN

BUT WE NEED THE REST OF YOU TO DO YOUR PART FOR YOUR FAMILY…CONTINUE TO CALL AND EMAIL AND TELL THEM NO>>>NO>>>NO STIMULUS PACKAGE WHATSOEVER.

IF THE SKY IS FALLING EITHER WAY, WHAT DOES IT MATTER?

WE BORROW TRILLIONS AND PUT OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN IN DEBT AND TAKE A SHOT THAT IT WILL WORK – EVEN THOUGH THE BAILOUT DIDN’T
