Raw: Pentagon Releases Video of Iranian Boats Confronting US Warships

The incident, which President Bush denounced Tuesday as a "provocative act," was videotaped by a crew member on the bridge of the destroyer USS Hopper, one of the three ships that faced down five Iranian boats in a flare-up early Sunday, the AP reports.

Ok, so where are the ‘white boxes’ that the US says the Iranian boats dropped? Where are the explosives on the Iranian boats that the US says were present? Where is the full audio recording of the threat to ‘blow up’ the US ships as the Pentagon says happened? The boats in the above video are a large distance away, they hardly seem to be swarming the destroyer. Is this the full set of video and audio released?? Is there more to come?

Now even if I believe the press release about the Iranian provocation, these videos show nothing at all. Some guy talking on a phone and some dark blobs so far away you can’t make out what they are. Looks more like one of those flying saucer videos than a provocative fake assault of US ships.

Bob   January 8th, 2008 - 5:17 pm

How big was the boat that blew up the USS Cole?

Check out the Navy’s take on it: http://www.navy.mil/search/display.asp?story_id=34207

Three U.S. Navy Ships Approached by Iranian Boats

From Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command/Commander, U.S. 5th Fleet Public Affairs

BAHRAIN (NNS) — Following a routine transit through the Strait of Hormuz, Jan. 6, three U.S. Navy ships operating in international waters in the Persian Gulf were approached by five Iranian small boats that demonstrated irresponsible confrontational behavior near the U.S. ships.

U.S. Navy ships USS Port Royal (CG 73), USS Hopper (DDG 70) and USS Ingraham (FFG 61) were steaming in formation at approximately 8 a.m. as they finished a routine Strait of Hormuz transit when five boats, suspected to be from the Islamic Republic of Iran Revolutionary Guard Navy (IRGCN), maneuvered aggressively in close proximity of the Hopper. Following standard procedure, Hopper issued warnings, attempted to establish communications with the small boats and conducted evasive maneuvering.

Coalition vessels, including U.S. Navy ships, routinely operate in the vicinity of both Islamic Republic of Iran Navy and IRGCN vessels and aircraft. These interactions are always correct on the U.S. part and reflect a commitment to accepted tenets of international law and common practice.

For more news from Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command/Commander, U.S. 5th Fleet, visit http://www.navy.mil/local/cusnc/.

There is something fundamentally wrong with your brain wiring.

I think it’s nearly time to sink the Iranian navy, again.

The time required to close the distance, between the small boats and the naval ships, can be measured in seconds. I served in the Arabian Gulf when oil tankers and other commercial ships were being attacked by the Iranians. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards are playing a foolish game and they stand to lose the most.

Shane…Why does the Strait of Hormuz need our patroling?? Seriously?? One of the jobs of the US Navy is to maintain and allow the flow of international trade in international waters around the world. In that area, the flow of international trade is oil and actually, very little comes to the US (around 17%). The vast majority of oil goes to other countries (Japan, Australia, Europe, etc.) and this flow of oil is vital tward global economic stability. So, we are in the Middle East to help maintain global economic stability and islamic terrorism in general and Iran specificly(sp?) are things which put global economic security at risk. this is not just a fight between U S & radical islam but between the civilised world & radical islam. The only problem is that alot of the civilised world does not want to admit they are at risk from terrorists or they will not be affected by terorists actions *or* if they please the terrorists, the problem will go away (HA!!!). I, personally, don’t want to be a Muslim & I don’t want to have to die just because of that choice so I support the fight against terrorists & everything that involves…and you should to.

My problem is when Bush & Co. now use this in a political context to try to validate their past and present diplomatic behavior towards Iran. For chrissakes open a dialog you dimwit! Affairs, events, happenings and incidents in Southwest Asia might seem slight but given the history of inter-tribal hatreds, Muslim sectarian animosity among Arab Muslims and Persian (Iranian) Muslims even a slight spark can ignite a regional conflagration that carries worldwide implications.

The region’s oil and other critical natural resources — which are vital to all industrialized economies — must travel through the very narrow Straits of Hormuz; which has long been viewed as the most dangerous sea lane choke point on the planet. What happens in that small body of water is important to just about everyone, everywhere in the world.

From an Organization Effectiveness viewpoint, the Imam-led government in Tehran can only be classified as a ‘psychotic organization,’ and those within the power structure are likely individually and collectively deranged to one degree or another. Such derangement, per force, causes the group members to act irrationally…that’s not to say the organization cannot be thorough and organized in its functions, rather it means the organization’s goals are developed from an incorrect start-point based on incorrect assumptions and no matter how effectively they execute their goal-oriented plan, they will naturally end up at the wrong place. Irrational, dangerous behaviors seem ‘normal’ to members of the organization.

The speed boat incident is typical of the dangerously irrational behaviors this psychotic organization. There is no negotiating with such an organization because its leaders are incapable understanding or accommodating viewpoints outside of their deranged frame of reference.

Make no mistake about it, the Imam-led government in Tehran is dangerous, irrational and capable of igniting a regional war that will cause widespread hardship and chaos in nearly every corner of the world.

The US Navy commanders and their very professional crews showed tremendous restraint and maturity in the way they dealt with a volatile and dangerous situation.

I think it’s very ambitious to think of a bunch of Baja’s as a navy fleet. Then I am reminded that the USS Cole was destroyed by a Zodiac. An inflatable the size of a small bass boat. These guys were very close to the ships and if not outright threatening them then they were incredibly foolish.

I can’t understand the posts on this site. Why is our country so divided? It’s pretty black and white to me. We are at war with a group of religious extremists that think that anyone who doesn’t believe in their religion is an infidel and deserves to die in the most horrific ways possible. They on the other hand feel no sense of apprehension about dying and going to paradise. Rational thinking does not work with this midset. It is a war to the end and if we are going to win we have to get tough. Kill em all let Allah sort them out.

My grandparents grew up in the 60’s and really messed this country up. Until we get the flower children in Washington to get tough and stop trying to find another Vietnam we are in trouble. My generation is going to be in serious trouble unless you “adults” grow a set.

Under International Law those US vessels had every right to engage those boats with deadly force. What the Iranians did is the equivalent of painting an aircraft with a SAM tracking radar. It is an act of war. Stupid behavior.

It is no different than a person pointing a loaded gun at you. At that point the right to defend yourself is never denied.

Unfortunately those who have been shot at understand this principle. The restraint showed by ur ships was remarkable, and probably stupid. If it happens again we should blow them away.

The Navy let them get way too close. At a minimum, warning shots should have been fired at that range, since the boats could have been packed with unseen explosives. This is no game.

“One, lol, hahahah, well If I had one boat mounted with a machine gun, I would, I guess approach the US 5th fleet too.”
I know you must be allergic to reality but you’ve been told already that one small rubber boat (with no mounted machine guns) is what they used against the USS Cole. You’re an idiot.

“I wonder if you get paid, for this.”
Again, a serious lack of reality deluded with conspiracy theory. Thank you for proving me right.

“You will receive no more replies clown.”
Cut and run cowards are all the same…

“You are a classic case of an over-drugged idiot”
Another case of projection. :D

Good luck with your inbred delusions…

Matt Royal–what you’re reading isn’t “hatred of America” but peoples’ weariness at certain types in the U.S. seeming to want war with half the world. They justify wars on the shakiest of pretexts. They don’t necessarily tell total lies but half-truths. It’s hard to believe anybody anymore.

SoCal Patriot   January 8th, 2008 - 10:31 pm

“what you’re reading isn’t “hatred of America” but peoples’ weariness at certain types in the U.S. seeming to want war with half the world. They justify wars on the shakiest of pretexts.”

That still says a lot about how you feel about America whether you see it or not. Whatever helps you sleep at night. We’ve already proven that what you think is not based on reality but upon deluded conspiracy theory and anti-war ignorance.

Good luck with that…

Look at the moonbats on here. I cannot believe the US ships did not open fire. That was some gutsy restraint.

jojogunner   January 8th, 2008 - 10:48 pm

Unbelieveable, google operation “Preying Mantis” back when I was sailing the “Straits” we didn’t put up with that kind of BS. My question is why did they let them get so close, back then we would have used the “Fly Swatter”, nothing like a little VT Frag to swat some flies.

The conspiracy theorist just slay me. Oh, everything is a lie, yeah yeah. If so please explain this:
If you are so convinced that GWB is so stupid and incompetent, how to reconcile that idea with your other idea that he somehow orchestrated the largest mass murder in American History w/o ANYBODY coming forward, any leaks or anything. Pretty damn good plan, execution and cover up.
(oh that’s right..it was CHENEY!!!)

You just believe what you WANT to believe. And I’ll just sit back laughing at you, shaking my head.

Tim   January 8th, 2008 - 11:46 pm

A liberal genius spouted his gaping maw with these comments:
“These clowns were unarmed in bright blue boats, with bright orange safe-vests on. LOL hahahah,

The Pentagon says the boats are mounted with machine guns and possibly armed with explosives. They say here we come to blow you up.

They then show a video of men, cruising in bright blue speed /fishing boats with bright orange safe jackets on. LOL, headed towards hree assets of the US 5th fleet.

I can’t do anything but laugh, this is the sorriest story I ever heard.

Only a fool takes this at face value, meanwhile Bush is on his way out of office, and America has declare recently that Iran is not making nukes. …

So, Iran decides to play with the US 5th fleet, yeah right.

Bright orange safejackets, lol wow ,..

This was a false flag. These boats wouldn’t stand a chance against a group of redneck fishermen on fish boats armed with single-shot bolt action rifles.

But instead, the Pentagon, would have you believe here, that a fleet lol, of five clowns heavily ARMED ONLY with bright orange safejackets approached the world most powerful Navy, in bright blue boats screaming we will explode your ships.

Whats worse is in the video, the blue speed boats are allowed to circle all the way around the USS Port Royal within 200, try 140 feet behind the USS Port Royal.”

I guess you forget the Cole and what a little boat did to it. These Iranians were simply provoking our navy while testing it’s response routine. You have got to be pretty stupid to run up on US Navy warships like this, or crazy. Personally speaking if I were the CO on any of these ships then these little guys would be fish food. You risk my life with your provocative actions then you risk yours, Period. It’s attitudes like yours that feed their ambitions, genius! These are military vessels in international waters, moron.

Bryan S.   January 8th, 2008 - 11:48 pm

Tim John….

In case you missed it, IRAN SAID IT HAPPENED… What was your theory again?

SoCal Patriot   January 8th, 2008 - 11:52 pm

From the same AP story:

“The audio and video recordings were made separately, and initially covered much of the more than 20 minute confrontation, but were pulled together and combined by the Navy, the officials said.”

20 minutes, we only saw small part of what happened but mental midgets are already claiming conspiracy theory.

“Senior Revolutionary Guards commander Ali Reza Tangsiri said Iran had the right to ask any ships to identify themselves upon entering or leaving the Persian Gulf.

“It is a basic responsibility of patrolling units of the Revolutionary Guards to take necessary interception measures toward any vessels entering into the waters of the Persian Gulf,” Tangsiri said, according to the Mehr news agency.”

I bet the inbred morons think President Bush personally faked the video and audio. They’re just not rational…

You hear the words and then alarms go off as they approach. The shios sailed straight as the speedboats ran circles. But somehow Iran is telling the truth?? You cant be that stupid…can you?

Tim John   January 9th, 2008 - 12:08 am

These clowns in these blue speed boats would have been defeated by a group of people like SoCal, on a fish boat, armed with single-shot bolt action rifles.

This was so lame, no one in their right mind thinks that this was real event, that the Iranians sent a fleet of clowns on bright blue boats with bright orange safejackets to attack three assets of the US 5th fleet.

Me and my friends could go out and produce a better video then this using CG technology.

Freakscat   January 9th, 2008 - 12:18 am

OK, so the CIA stole 5 Iranian speed boats from the Iranian Navy OR they ferried over 5 similar boats from the US and launched them nearby from the coast of Iran or UAE, with no witnesses, and proceeded to “spread fear” by driving near US warships?

is that about it?

Said Bush: “My message today to the Iranians is they shouldn’t have done what they did.”
“It is a dangerous situation,” he said in a White House news conference. “They should not have done it, pure and simple. . . . I don’t know what their thinking was, but I’m telling you what my thinking was. I think it was a provocative act.”

“The USS Liberty incident was an attack on a U.S. Navy intelligence ship, USS Liberty, in international waters about 12.5 nautical miles (23 km) from the coast of the Sinai Peninsula, north of El Arish, by Israeli fighter planes and torpedo boats on June 8, 1967.
It occurred during the Six-Day War, a conflict between Israel and the Arab states of Egypt, Jordan and Syria. The Israeli attack killed 34 U.S. servicemen and wounded at least 173. The attack was the second deadliest against a U.S. Naval vessel since the end of World War II, surpassed only by the Iraqi Exocet missile attack on the USS Stark on May 17, 1987, and marked the single greatest loss of life by the U.S. Intelligence Community.”

Act of War? Provocative?

“Cosgriff objected to Iranian attempts to downplay the incident.

“I hope from this lesson they realize that we are concerned by small, high-speed vessels,” said Cosgriff. I hope they understand we will take those actions we deem appropriate to defend our ships and our sailors.”

Riad Kahwaji, a Dubai-based analyst with the Institute for Near East and Gulf Military Analysis, said Iran may have been seeking to send a “political message” to Arab Gulf states to highlight the dangers of military confrontation.

“When somebody gets so close to a big ship then he’s very likely asking for trouble or trying to provoke something,” he said. “Opening fire means sparking a war … Does anyone really want to take that risk?”

Good old DOUBLE STANDARD.
Jews can do whatever they want.
Don’t worry…

If TR were president all of those boats would have been blown out of the water real quick. Then possibly a cruise missile or two launched at Tehran just to make sure those bums got the message.
Where’s Lt Stephen Decatur now that we need him?

Tom   January 9th, 2008 - 1:31 am

It’s predictable that the “hate America first” crowd will bash anything remotely provocative as something the President dreamed up.

As a 31-year military veteran, I know a hostile act when I see one and, although I’m not a Navy vet, I understand that an Aegis-Class destroyer is a near to a “Capital Ship” as anything that floats gets. You do it harm and it’s an act of war, plane and simple. You attempt to do it harm and you will likely end up dead.

There are accepted rules of conduct by vessels (air and water) of all Navys and Air Forces. The actions of these boats seemed to me to be reckless and provocative. The occupants of those boats are fortunate that they are not presently in the arms of their promised 72 virgins. If that’s what they want we’ll be glad to accomodate them.

pcfdriver   January 9th, 2008 - 1:31 am

As a former Navy officer and Officer-In-Charge of a smaller patrol craft in combat conditions, I would consider the Iranian actions extremely hostile. As I was responsible for my crew and craft, I would have opened fire as they closed to less than 500 yards. The range of one of the oldest weapons used by modern armies/navies, the venerable .50 calibre machine gun, is 7000 yards. Nuff said?

Ron Paul Sucks   January 9th, 2008 - 1:46 am

To make it simple, anytime a small vessel gets close to a large vessel that is a provocative act. The large vessel cannot make the necessary movements to get away, because why, it cannot, it is too large. So in summary that is why it is a big deal when a vessel that is named as unknown or labeled as the enemy will be destroyed especially if it comes too close, actually the naval showed restraint. Now lets play what if, what if the Iranian vessel gets close enough to detonate a explosive device and kills 100s of sailors? That would be very bad and lead to a war of a very large scale and $200 plus barrel oil. So no more Jew, Bush hate crap and get you head out of the sand.

Is Iran really equiped to threaten our sovereignty? Be serious.

Why does the Strait of Hormuz need our patroling? Our policing? Seriously, this is an excellent example to the vagueness of WHO the enemy is. If all one has to do is speed around the Strait of Hormuz, or make the Navy nervous, or speak some hostile Iranian, we will all be in trouble and suspect. What determines the actions of those in the boats to be acting FOR Iran? The fact that they speak Iranian?

I am not for warfare against anyone or anything who simply dislikes us. “Because Bush said” isnt good enough.

You want to scoff at “truffers” or the like, then present FACTS and EVIDENCE for such claims. Your “side” does nothing but give ammunition to those claims when you present this kind of “proof”.

R.W.   January 9th, 2008 - 2:02 am

Almost the identical incident occurred in the early 80’s when a fast frigate, USS Cook (FF-1083) was transiting the Strait. We fired several “warning shots” over one of the small boats’ bow and they ran. They were also broadcasting on our unsecure frequencies uttering obscenities about our mothers and sisters back in the states. On one level, it was comical, but trust me, this most recent incident was a VERY dangerous situation as it was over 20 years ago.

#1 40 years ago
#2 Isreal apologized – it was a tragic mistake
#3 the USS Liberty was a spy ship with few weapons and it was alone. – something which doesn’t happen so much today.
#4 and no – we didn’t go to war with Isreal because they were our allies – see my next point.
#4a Germany didn’t go to war with us when that US fighter accidentally killed those folks on a ski lift and that was just 5 or so years ago… as it was an accident
#5 Isreal had made no overtures to kill americans – Iran makes such overtures almost daily. Should we ignore the threat of these boats simply because of a 40 year old error?

Don’t worry everyone…once Obama gets elected, he’ll make nice with everyone and all countries will love us again. Barf. We all know that when Clinton made nice with everyone, the WTC was bombed, the USS Cole was bombed, the Khobar towers were bombed in 1996 and three embassies in South Africa were bombed. And that was when everyone “liked” us…..except the terrorists.

People are now using the term ‘Ron ‘cut and run’ Paul’?? WOW! Paul must REALLY be scaring the Republican establishment if he, a fellow Republican, is being labeled as ‘cut and run’. I though that form of labeling was reserved for the Democrats? I suppose you should also label Reagan as ‘cut and run’ too, because he is rolling in his grave right now. Regan would vomit at the way the neo-conservative minority has hijacked the Republican party and nearly destroyed it, and the nation, in the process. The Reagan mantra of Trust but Verify, and carry a big stick but speak softly, has been fully dismantled by the neo-conservative wackos that are unfortunately still in power.

As for my own double standards what does the holocaust have to do with this situation? The same as the USS Liberty. Nothing.

The next question is why are you so keen on the Liberty yet you COMPLETELY IGNORE THE COLE?

n1cholson   January 9th, 2008 - 3:26 am

The Iranian action was a strategic feint. The goal of such a feint was to see how and how soon the US Navy would respond.

The Iranian military has to plan for all sorts of war contingencies, and this sort of mock attack provides them important information on US naval response times.

This kind of cat-and-mouse game happens routinely between friendly and adversarial nations. It’s provocative and dangerous. For proof look no further than the fate of Iran Air flight 655.

Expect such skirmishes to continue until one side is foolish enough to spark full scale conflict.

SKD   January 9th, 2008 - 3:28 am

Never been to a protest in my life, Moses. But, I’ll just say that I am more than capable of defending myself, and let that go. I’ve had to fight for a few things. ;-)

Yes, you do and are supposed to get out and become an ordinary citizen again. Soldiers and the army are supposed to be nothing but weapons/tools to be used only when absolutely necessary and then put away. Militarism was never supposed to be at the core of American society. But, it is now and that’s why we actually have more in COMMON with the countries we invade or disapprove of. I think you would probably love it in some of those countries, Moses.

I’m surprised you didn’t throw pinko-commie in your rhetoric, Moses. Is it a coincidence that there are so many agonized vets. around here all of a sudden??

H.R. 1955 – THOUGHT CRIMES BILL

With this bill, the U.S. government has officially labeled the People of the United States as criminals. It is drawing a line in the sand and stating that from now on, it’s the Government vs. the People. If we don’t stop this bill from becoming law, we are lost. There is no turning back from tyranny once the government turns its own citizens into criminals, enforcing only the thoughts, ideas, words that it approves or tolerates. Everything is at stake here!

This video shows nothing at all? You all obviously don’t remember the USS Cole. They didn’t see their explosives until there was a huge hole in the boat and U.S. service men and women died. In my opinion, these boats should not be floating right now. These sailors showed TREMENDOUS constraint. In a time of war, and yes folks we are at war believe it or not, there is plenty of reasons to shoot those boats out of the water for the way that they were behaving.

Honestly, boys & girls, I don’t understand why so many of you feel it necessary to insult each other; to denigrate our country and its leaders; and I certainly don’t understand the anti-semitism that pervades much of the posts on this board.

I’m not Jewish but I hold in high regard any nation and, or group of people who value human rights, learning, culture and the arts. Comprising only 0.6-percent of the world’s population American, European and Israeli Jews are net-positive for all of human kind.

And, Israel is the only state in Middle East-Southwest Asia region that uses the tools of democracy in governance. The enemies of Israel, dictatorships all, cynically use, abuse and endanger their nationals to advance their twin goals of retaining unfettered power and destroying Israel.

The enemies we face are dangerous, irrational and capable — even eager — to inflict hideous horrors on anyone with whom they disagree. We who have the luxury of communicating with each other without fear of government restraint or reprisal should value this part of our liberties, treat it and treat those with whom correspond with respect and dignity. Name-calling, ethnic-racial-religious insults and general hubris toward each other neither advance understanding the serious situation we face nor do they promote civility and dignified discourse.

When the PENTAGON finds a tape of the 757 that crashed into the building on 9/11 2001, I may believe anything these fools have to offer. When a plane the size of a 757 disappears after crashing LIVE on video tape, I simply can’t believe a thing they show me.

Here we have a Navy recreation of events that were said to have occured in international waters. A few boats, none of which look like they had mounted guns like was told, they don’t seem to be loaded with explosives like was told, they seem to get close as in 200 yards, they don’t swarm anything. You don’t hear any threats from the boats on radio like was told.

Here, all you people need to do, if you want to expose this story as crap. Remember the British sailors that were intercepted by the Iranian Navy

“What color were the Iranian speed boats in that story?” certainly not BLUE.

The Pentagon engages in mind control, because 95% of Americans are easy push overs, the government tells you something and you believe it. The Pentagon has HUNDREDS of cameras, now and on 9/11, it is the MOST protected building in the world. They would have you to believe that they have video evidence of a boat incident in the Strait of Hormus, but no video showing the 757 at ANYTIME, just fire and small parts. No bodies, no wings, no large nine foot engines, nothing. The video that the FBI was holding was finally released from acrossed the street from the Pentagon showed a huge explosion, but NO 757. Ask the CIA what really occured with these BLUE boats. Sounds like NATO boats to me, blue is their color.

“James Kirchick of the New Republic has a devastating piece on Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) online today on the TNR website. Kirchick provides a meticulously detailed history of the “Ron Paul Political Report,” a newsletter Paul had circulated to a network of some 7,000 subscribers from the late 80s and early 90s.

As Kirchick reports—whether describing post-apartheid South Africa as a “destruction of civilization,” alleging that Martin Luther King “seduced underage girls and boys,” warning of “tens of thousands of well-placed friends of Israel in all countries who are willing to wok [sic] for the Mossad in their area of expertise,” or urging white readers to arm themselves after “the first skirmish in the race war of the 1990s,”—virtually every historic trope of racism, anti-Semitism, anti-gay bigotry, or conspiracy theorizing has been featured in the “Ron Paul Political Report” in one way or another. For his part, Paul has alternately acknowledged writing some of the material that went out under his name, only to deny authorship when confronted with the most disturbing details. In any case, Paul has taken “moral responsibility” for the contents of the “Ron Paul Political Report.” What follows is a quick digest of some of his greatest, which is to say most disgraceful, hits.

I might add, on a personal note, that as a libertarian with significant sympathy for Paul’s platform, I initially viewed claims of his past history of racism skeptically. But the evidence is so overwhelming that the defense of Paul is now, itself, indefensible.”

I see the moveon.org moonbats have weighed in on this event.
It’s hard to judge distance from the rough video, but I say if they get within 300 yards of one of our ships they should be engaged.
All the little kiddies complaining about warmongering on behalf of the US were still playing in the sandbox when the USS Cole was attacked.

Tim John   January 9th, 2008 - 5:37 am

Yana, well said, the rule of engagement are clear. These small speed / fishing boats or whatever they are were within 200 yards on their pass behind the USS Port Royal. These small vessels would had been destroyed in truth had this been a real matter.

The US 5th Fleet is not a play toy; therefore, this event was staged. Had this had been a real incident. The fleet would have reacted, we the American citizens, would not even have heard of the story for about a month, until all the reporting and paperwork of the incident was filed. There would be a media backout of the event so as to ascertain if indeed this was the Iranians and not pirates or other terrorists. The fact that the story came out so soon, indicates that it was staged.

Again, if anyone wants to expose this story for crap, all they need to do is look up the story about the British sailors that were intercepted by Iran. In that case, the speed boats were long about 30 – 40 feet and black, they were mounted with machine guns and more then two sailors aboard. If you can remember, the British sailors said they were clearly out gunned. Why, because the speed boats were armed.

In this video, the Pentagon, lol, I love these fools they are so funny, anyway, the Pentagon, would have you to believe that a group of five, you only see two, but five small blue unarmed speed / fishing boats approached assets of the US 5th fleet, the most powerful Navy in the world and claimed that they were going to attack.

Now, go back to the British incident, according to the British, there was no communication, no radio breakage, in fact radio silence, the speed boats were large and quickly surrounded their targets. The had MOUNTED machine guns as you would expect from warships of any Navy of any country. .. not a bunch of blue speed / fishing boats.

Bottom line, these blue boats were not fired on because they were part of a war game, staged to be used by the Pentagon. The Pentagon, an agency that can hide a 757, a 60+ ton plane, I guess in their outter wall.

The most amazing thing about all of this is that the Navy Ships didn’t open fire and send these knuckleheads to thier death. They would have been well within their rights to do so.

Then we have the folks that insist this is just some propaganda to inflame the American people against Iran.

If the Navy had blown them out of the water, these same folks would be screaming their heads off saying that we attacked some poor defenseless boaters. However, since the Navy didn’t even open fire they are screaming that it didn’t really happen. I’ll assume that if small boats had been successful in blasting a hole in one of the Navy ships, these same folks would be screaming the it was G.W.’s fault or perhaps it was really the Israelis the struck…

When will you open your minds to the possibility that America is really not that bad? When will you people let go of your hate for America?

For those of you that “think” this was staged… The Iranian Military acknowledged that this confrontation took place but denied that the boats were taking a hostile stance.

Thinking for real once, you might come to the conclusion that they weren’t trying to actually sink a ship (even the USS Cole didn’t sink after sustaining significant damage) but the plan may have been to become martyrs for Islam.

If you get beyond your hate for America, you might also realize that had the same boats that surrounded and siezed the British gun boat made similar manuevers with these American Navy ships, they would have been blown out of the water well before they came into any effective range. Let’s assume that the Iranians aren’t stupid (crazy but not stupid) and they assume that this type of action is caught on video tape. Boats with deck mounted machince guns get blown out of water by US Navy ships in self defense. VERY few people have a problem. Outcry is small(with the possible exception of those of you defending them on this blog). Small speed boats without gun mounted machine guns get blown out of the water and, once again, we look like the bad guys…

It’s a war of positioning and propaganda and you seem to be so willing to accept their story over ours. Ask yourself why? Open your minds.

Tim John   January 9th, 2008 - 6:25 am

Anyway, people with sense know what time it is. Here, we have another false flag, we have all heard of false flag operations, in fact, in old cases the government admits it. Just like the Gulf of Tonkin incident. Certain presidents have been involved in staged events through out history. Leave it to the clowns of this board nothing is staged by our goverment, even the events they admit to.

This event is so close to the Gulf of Tonkin’s event that it was a sorry choice for a false flag. Contact the NSA’s website, go to their area labeled archives. They admit that the Gulf of Tonkin was a false flag.

This event, where Iran has been cleared of having nukes, and Bush and company are almost out of office. Simply doesn’t make any sense.

A group of unarmed bright blue speed /fishing boats approach the US 5th fleet, three assets of the fleet heavily armed, and these bright blue boats break rodio silence, saying I’m coming you’re going to explode! Meanwhile, the three $600+ dollar US vessels ’stand down’ and do NOT fire. LOL.

In the British sailor incident, the boats were larger, they were black, they ALL were armed heavily with mounted machine guns and the sailors on board were armed. They broke no radio silence as you would expect from a fleet targeting their foes. What fools, lol come floating in to a group of US Navy vessels armed with Nothing, screaming we will explode your ships?

Please people, this was a false flag operation, designed by the Pentagon on orders, to create a fake matter, to give some food to a possible attack on Iran before Bush leaves office.

Iran ‘did not harass US warships’
Mon, 07 Jan 2008 21:09:36

An Iranian official has dismissed Washington’s claims that IRGC speedboats harassed three US navy warships in the Strait of Hormuz.

The US vessels approached the Iranian boats in the Persian Gulf on Sunday, warning they were in the red zone, the official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Press TV on Monday.

He added that the Iranians had asked the warships to identify themselves, as such radio communications are usual between vessels in the Persian Gulf.

Although the Pentagon claimed that US sailors were given orders to open fire on the Iranian boats, the official confirmed no hostile encounter took place.

Ah that’s right SoCal, the Iranians did admit the incident occurred.

I guess it’s possible that the CIA stole the Iranian boats, forcing the Iranians to admit to the encounter so as to save the embarrassment of admitting the loss/theft of their own boats.

NY Times lead story Wednesday : US, Bush Cheating to Win War

jColes   January 9th, 2008 - 9:03 am

OK…here’s one more attempt to inject facts into this discussion:

A number of correspondents in the thread have commented on the Iranian navy and asked if speed boats are that nation’s main naval force…While these fast-attack craft are dangerous and capable of laying surface mines, firing anti-shipping missiles, firing the 12.7 mm Russian-built machine guns they carry the main threat they pose is direct suicide attack. Each of the 20-foot type is capable of carrying more than 1,000 pounds of high explosives; which would do serious harm to frigate or even destroyer-size US naval vessels. The larger ‘cigarette boats’ can carry enough high explosive to temporarily disable even a Nimitz Class carrier…or fire the French-made Exocet anti-shipping missile, which is a very serious and dangerous capability.

But the Iranian navy also owns at least five littoral waters diesel-electric submarines. Among these so-called ‘brown water’ submarines are at least two German-made 503-class advanced technology boats, each armed with four 16-inch bow tubes and some versions also include two similar stern tubes…the torpedoes they fire can literally blow a frigate out of the water or crack the keel and sink any ship up to cruiser tonnage. These submarines constitute a serious threat to shipping in the Persian Gulf at large and can bottle-up the Strait of Hormuz; effectively cutting off more than one-third of maritime oil shipping capacity.

Other submarines and surface combatant capital ships in the Iranian navy include Russian, German and French-made ships and boats up to destroyer tonnage; and each is equipped with modern navigation and targeting systems.

Of the five major maritime sea lane choke points (Hormuz, Suez Canal, Panama Canal, Straits of Bosporus and the Malacca Straits) Hormuz is the most vulnerable…and presents the greatest potential to damage to the total world economy. The consequences of allowing Iran to dominate this choke point could be disastrous, more so to Europe and Asia than to the US, but would certainly be harmful to our economy.

As the sole remaining super power, our nation has responsibilities under a number of international agreements, treaties and conventions…our presence as the sea lane guarantor is not ‘US unilateralism,’ but an accepted and expected duty of the world’s foremost maritime power.

And, for those who view this and other incidents as part of some sort of warmongering conspiracy consider this: a conspiracy requires the cooperation and guarantee of secrecy by several-to-many participants and history proves that keeping such secrets is impossible — someone will talk. Thus far, there is zero evidence that any sort of ‘War For Profit’ conspiracy exists…Conspiratorial fears expressed by a certain political orientation segment of society are little more than irrational and paranoid.

Tim John   January 9th, 2008 - 9:08 am

In the end, everyone with sense knows what really occured here. These bright blue speed boats with men wearing bright orange safejackets, during the bright of day were not armed, their vessels were not low in the water so as to indicate they were heavy with explosives. Certainly, some small boats are used by the Iranians for peace time missions and wartime mission, we don’t know, that’s not the point, the point is of course that in the original story, it said that these boats approached barking that they would blow up vessesls of the US 5th fleet. Vessels that cost more then some states yearly budget that they recieve from the goverment. The stories claimed that these speed boats were armed with mounted machine guns; however, you do not see any weapons in the video. The US Coast Guard has bright orange small ships and all white ships; however, these small boats are NEVER used for an attack on anything, let alone an attack on vessels the size nd strengh of the US 5th fleet. Only a foolish person thinks that with Bush time in office extremely limited, and after America’s Intelligence Community has declared that Iran does not have a nuclear weapons program, that Iran would then create some sort of ‘childish-like prank’ in open waters for absolutely no reason. But that is of course what you have here, and people who may be being paid to look foolish. It is a wild affair, I see two speed boats race around the USS Port Royal as if the ship was a good ole friend to be played with. These men knew nothing would occur. In truth, these small boats wouldn’t have been allowed to get that close to these vessel, because the rules for cease-fire are trumped when you are talking about the lose of vessels costing over $600 million a piece. These men orders are clear, in events like the following would have occured, as the speed boats approached they would have been warned by loud horn and radio communications to leave the area, then they would have been hit with non-lethal ’sound’ deterrent systems, just like huge luxury ships use to as a deterrent against pirates. These speed boats would have been treated like pirates. If somehow, the speed boat’s crews were armed with sound deterrent blocking device, warning shots would have come from the US 5th fleet vessels, followed by deadly force. The rules for engagement are not ambiguous to each situation differently, they remain the same for all hostile situations. There is NO WAY in hell these boats gentlely cruised around alone side of these US 5th fleet vessels, without the ending being their death, other then the simple fact that this was indeed a staged event.

The most important factor in this case, is the original story, where the Pentagon was clear, they said that the ships had mounted guns and were behaving in such a manner so as to believe they were loaded with explosive.

The story gets better, then the Iranians break radio silence, and tell the US 5th vessels, “I’m coming for you, you will explode” – or to that effect.

This means war, an act of war, or war has been declared, because the threat has voiced clearly it intent.

You couldn’t just cruise by US warships in peace times, they order you back from them so many yards, BUT HERE, according to the story the Iranians had already declared their intent, which was an act of war upon a US vessels in international waters.

The fact that they didn’t fire on these small bright blue boats with orange jacket wearing crews was because, this was a staged event. There can be no other reason.

YOU OR I CAN’T EVEN go to let’s say, just any local police station, armed with snowballs, and say your department is about to blow up, we then continue to approach the police after they say stand down and attempt circle around them.

We are American citizen, in America, a would be shot down dead like a pack of rabbit dogs in the streets for something that simple.

Here, the Pentagon, would you believe, that clowns cruising around in bright blue boats, armed with orange safejackets had declared war on American vessels worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and were allowed to circle around them, and toy with our vessels like this was a ski-trip off of the US 5th Fleet’s vessels wake waves. The answer here is please.

This was a false flag event, staged by orders

Unfortunately, this is a big win for Iran. Between their massive support here (i.e. the democrat party) and the blind support of their ignorant populous, they’ve shown yet again, that they can be the aggressor and the U.S. will do nothing about it. Just like the kidnapping of the British soldiers last year, what did the U.K. do? Wring their hands like a bunch of sillynannies (to take from Family Guy), no aggressive action at all. Same with the USS Cole, and what did we do? Let Iran get away with blaming it on “radicals.” Hmmm, where are all the Iranian weapons coming from that are killing our friends and family serving in Iraq? That’s right, from terrorist Iran.

Bush really f’d up on Iraq, Hussein (a distant cousin of Barrack) was a paper tiger, he didn’t have the money to project world-wide terror, and didn’t have the infrastructure to do anything more than try to take over nearby countrys. Not to mention those people have been satisfied living under oppression for 3000 years and have shown no aptitude towards any type of change towards freedom.

So what about the Iranian people? One on one, they probably wouldn’t have a problem with their social equivalent in the western world. However, as they support, encourage and aid their governments terrorist actions, does that not make them our enemy? We need to get off this high horse mentality that people want our way of life, they don’t. However, if they try and destroy or harm our way of life, they are the enemy. Its called massive collateral damage.

If a suspicious person starts running towards a police officer and acting as though he’s going to attack, the officer has authority to shoot that person.

I applaud our Navy for the steely bawls to not react to this provocation. These ba$tard$ strap explosives to children and blow up innocent civilians. The comment about “no apparent weapons” is ridiculous. The boat itself is a weapon, not to mention the hundreds of pounds of explosives that could be hidden in the hull of the boat. Any one of those boats could have rammed into the side of one of our ships before we even had a chance to respond.

These idiots like to do dry runs of their attacks — kind of “feel out” our response. Don’t be surprised if this is just a prelude. We should have blown those a$$holes out of the water and sent a message to Iran to back the f__k down.

It’s a good thing that the people in the Military have more self controle than the “extreme bloggers” bashing them. Considering how many GenXers have experienced combat themselves, and still believe that they are fighting for continued freedom for all of us, including Iraqis and Afghans, I think this acrid 60’s mentality will eventually just die out. The folks manning the bridges of the Navy ships did an absolutely outstanding job, in exposing the Iranians’ intentions. Just watch and listen to some of the dialogue on the new tape. No rude blogger acting out online will ever change the respect I have for people, young or old, who have/had the guts and self-discipline to put the well-being of others before their own, and resist ill-intentioned provocations. The most amazing part is that most people serving currently are between 20 and 30 and they have the discernment only gaine through experience, usually reserved to 40 or 50 year olds. Go Navy!

I read though all the posts here and I just can’t believe some of the people on this board. Commanders in the region have to weigh every situation and threat. This happens every day on the DMZ in Korea and all over the world. Threats and provocative actions are dealt with all the time. They have to be weighed against the possibility of creating a national incident that could start another war.

This was close but nothing happened! The Navy held back from giving these idiots a way to raise more hatred against the US. This has turned into a non-story (except on this board). Close call, and the Iranian military has idiots that can drive boats. These people were seconds away from being fish food. They try it again and that’s how they will end up.

What good does it do Bush? How does it affect the election? Not at all in my book. McCain won in NH tonight but he was predicated to win there for weeks. Not a chance a Republican will get elected no matter what happens.

Chalk this up to man that was close and go back on Patrol. Like it or not we ARE a target. Like it or not there are quite a few people in the world that don’t like the US and are trying to take us out or embarrass us anyway they can.

Does the government lie to us? Sure.

Are things messed up right now? Yes!

Is the FDA full of it and getting paid by the drug companies? Of course!

Are lobbyist and special interest groups running the country? I would bet my last dollar on it.

There is way too much going on to debate if this was real or not. Get off your A#@ and do something about it. I have an idea, find a candidate that might have a shot at getting elected and volunteer to help with the campaign. Get involved in the process that could change the way things are going. I know it sounds a little bit like work but that is what this country is suppose to be about. Freedom of choice, freedom of speech and all that…

If someone threatens us like this we should blow them out of the water the same way most of us would protect our family if anyone came into our house and tried to hurt our family. From some of the comments on this board I think some of you people would just buy them a beer and try to bond.

Get a grip on reality. If you really think that everyone in the government is lying to you ALL the time then I know a guy that wears a towel on his head, tore up his US Passport and told the other lunatics to kill as many Americans as they can. I am sure he can introduce you to some of his friends and you can all get together and share stories about how messed up the US is.

If you don’t want to respect the veterans on this board that’s your choice. Me thinking your an ungrateful piece of garbage is my choice. Just because these people gave up years of their lives at a pay rate that is under the governments definition of poverty. Just so you would not have to deal with people invading the country you live in or bombs going off while your attending a wedding or going to buy groceries for your family. “I am amazed at the control shown by the Navy.”

I’m disturbed by it. If this weren’t just a probe we would be discussing three severely damaged ships and heavy casualties.

I don’t know what was going through the captains’ minds at the time. However with the persecution of the military in the press and by the JAG Corps I wouldn’t be surprised if the thought of the skewering they’d get in the media at least crossed their mind. That and the thought of being hung out to dry by the administration during a publicity provoked court martial could cause lethal hesitation.

RetiredChief   January 9th, 2008 - 12:09 pm

The actions of the boats in this video was sufficient provocation for the individual Commanding Officer’s of each of the respective vessels to order them sunk. It was very close to being sufficient for the individual weapon mount commanders to open fire without order from their respective Commanding Officers. The restraint shown by the US Navy in this encounter is the only reason this encounter did not end with dead people.

The real question is why would anyone be this provocative toward armed warships? The answer is buried not in the verbal diarrhea spewing out on this board but in the internal politics of Iran.

The ongoing struggle for a more secular state is a constant source of internal tension. The forces that provoked the US Navy appear to be associated with the “Guards” which is a politicized military that supports the religious hard-line government forces.

Why would they provoke the “Great Satan”? It was a win-win for them. If fired on, they could claim the US attacked them and use this for internal political gain against those who are pushing for talks with the Western World. If not fired on, they have demonstrated their strength and ability to push around the “Great Satan”, also something to be used for internal political gain.

Now why would the US publicize this event?

Not to start a war. The Gulf of Tonkin references aside, if the US wanted to start a war with the Iranians, this video would have ended with gunfire.

Go back to the original reason for the provocation, internal political gain. By publishing this incident, the US has given the moderates in Iran the information needed to call the hard-liners on their reckless behaviour. Publicizing this incident is part of how we (the US and Western World) work toward helping the moderates in Iran gain better control over the reckless hard-liners.

If you have a better explanation, I’m willing to listen.

Kelly from Texas   January 9th, 2008 - 12:32 pm

Well…we ARE in THEIR part of the world. All the people on this post who are claiming that this was an attack on our national sovereignty are total idiots. If they had ships close to the States, don’t you think that the USCG or the Navy would blow them out of the water?!!! Can’t wait ’till next year when we don’t have a retard in office stirring up trouble around the world, unless we get Rudy (then we’re in even more trouble), but it looks like he’s losing badly in the primaries as he should. He can go back to making millions off of 911. Anyways, the video looks like a bunch of boats haulin’ but and probably joking around with the ships. I didn’t see any gun fire from the boats, so what’s the big deal? What? They appeared to have explosives like Saddam appeared to have WMDs? Ha Ha Ha!

tellahoohooo   January 9th, 2008 - 12:36 pm

The video was obviously edited…

Yes and 9/11 was a GW’s fault and I hear he knew all about it.

Damm us here in the USA we cause all the worlds problems.

What are we thinking.

Zog-Slayer you ass, when the Cole blew up there were no weapons on that ship either, they were packed in the hull. Where do ya live Zog in the US? I tell you what since you hate the jewninted states so much, I will buy you a one way ticket to Iran and you can live and speek your mind over there. How about it.

God help us if most of you people that posted here really act the way and belive the way that you do.

Would you have rather waited until the speedboats became so close that they could have done damage, there is a protocall for this type of thing and it was being followed. Of course most of you would have been cheering if a ship was blown up.

I guess I’ve haphazardly statred my own Iranian terrorist navy in Lake Conroe, Texas. All you need is a small boat. Now Bush’s useless EXPANSION OF GOVERNMENT, the DHS will have something to do. I think we have some left-over (yellow) bunt cake in the fridge that my girlfriend made, some Michael More dvds, we’re registered Democrats, and we appreciate Arabic culture. Holy $h!t, why is everyone so concerned about a few boats when there are freedom-hating non-patriotic liberal ‘terrorists’ like me in ‘thu homeland?’ This story is a total farse just like the questionability of the Gulf of Tonkin incident. I can’t WAIT for the right-wing insecure ba$tards (who are the REAL Pu$$ies in our country) to finally get out of office so that the REAL PATRIOTS can fix this mess! Come on OBAMA!!!! Come on CLINTON!!! You can’t win soon enough!!!

But he said that probably the “most historically significant feature” of the declassified report was the retelling of the 1964 Gulf of Tonkin incident.

That was a reported North Vietnamese attack on American destroyers that helped lead to president Lyndon Johnson’s sharp escalation of American forces in Vietnam.

The author of the report “demonstrates that not only is it not true, as (then US) secretary of defense Robert McNamara told Congress, that the evidence of an attack was ‘unimpeachable,’ but that to the contrary, a review of the classified signals intelligence proves that ‘no attack happened that night,’” FAS said in a statement.

“What this study demonstrated is that the available intelligence shows that there was no attack. It’s a dramatic reversal of the historical record,” Aftergood said.

Tim   January 9th, 2008 - 2:32 pm

Looks like fun! They should be wake-boarding. BYW the hull of each of those vessels is much larger than the missiles and torpedoes capable of sinking any ship. The Iranians were obviously testing boundaries and US Naval response. By showing thier presence just as President Bush is in Israel for Talks (much of which are about Iran), they are also making a statement that they are not afraid of the US. I also believe that they were secretly hoping for a shooting response from the ship group. (guided missile crusiers, destroyers and frigates are not the group to attack if you hope to win) If the Navy did not show restraint, the talks would have been overshadowed by what the Iranias would have spun.

EyesWideOpen, FYI (and you obviously need info)There are dozens of people shipboard whose job it is to be ready at a moments notice to take pictures and video of any incident that may develop. In fact if a low flying airplane approaching on radar is photographed dozens of time by several people.

This is done to identify the craft and provide proof of any encounter.

The Iranians staged this event to bring about exactly what has happened…you America hating leftists openly condemning the US and blaming the US when all the sailors did was show incredible restraint.

This is really sad… I was gripped by the video, having grown up around the sea and lived on a boat, and married to a SWO Navy guy for 16 years. Some people here understand the heart of military people, some are obviously combat vets, a few are obviously Navy, but mostly, instead of this being a civilized forum discussing ideas and the current events (which are MUCH MORE SIGNIFICANT than most posters here realize!) this whole thread has turned into a collective trash fest. Sounds like the people that spat on my friends and their children when Moveon.org started their first “peaceful” demonstration in San Diego in 2001. Thank you to those of you who have spoken up in favor of the integrity and honor of the men and women in uniform. Thank you to you Vets who have dared enter the fray of this thread. For those of you who do not approve of the military’s actions and those of our Commander-In-Chief, but have remained civil, thank you also for attempting to keep this thread constructive. For those people who have hijacked this whole event to posts diatribes that defy any common sense or logic : how disgusting !!! To think that it is for this kind of repugnant venom (right to free speech guaranteed under the Constitution, in case you need a reminder) that my friends risk their lives for ?!! I don’t believe for one minute that your very own mothers would ever have taught you to be THAT RUDE AND DISGUSTINGLY CRUDE!!! I hope you learn to tame your tongue/fingers in the future. May I recommend some counselling for you, so you can identify the true source of your anger, rather than misdirecting it towards a faceless group or organization. I hope you find healing from your relentless need to project your own issues unto anyone who does not coddle you or “fear your wrath”. If you act/post like angry children, you deserve to hear the truth about your childish behavior. Any good mother would tell you that you can do better than these ridiculous on-line temper tantrums. Now hopefully, we can all get back to the real topic, which is the behavior of these “little blue boats”.

I am amazed at the control shown by the Navy. Any one of those boats could have closed in less than a minute and any one of those boats could have carried enough explosives to cause severe damage and death; irregardless of what they put in the water. If the Navy would have reacted as one would expect a warship to react, it would have been W’s fault and there would have been international investigations and tribunals set up to vilify the U.S.and it’s pesident. Clearly this was a set up; they knew precisely what they were doing. Iran can do this at will as they know whatever reaction they initiate from the U.S., they win. A win because Iran knows that they have close to half of the U.S. public (clearly obvious in this blog) and most of the western media on their side; always a mystery to me. The only thing that will wake the whole of the U.S. and the western world up is a massive, and devastating set back to our narcissistic comfort. I am older, but I fully expect that to happen in my lifetime.

Boghammar fast attack boats zipping in at any naval vessel is a provocation that should bring a deadly response. That the US crews held back, despite the many violations by the Iranians in the last few years, testifies to their professionalism.

That so many on this blog blither about their conspiracy/Halliburtonesque/”it was nothing” mindset shows that willful ignorance, blinding hatred and chosen lack of awareness runs rampant among far too many people who should be adults and know better.

Mike   January 9th, 2008 - 7:17 pm

Anyone saying this is not provocative is either so liberal they refuse to accept anything threating from the Middle East or just dumb. That is real effing close to the US ships and they don’t exactly just drive by and keep going…they circle around and taunt the ships. Come on people it’s not Lake Havasu during spring break, those are Iranian Guards (Terrorists)approaching a WARSHIP. And if you’ve been paying any attention to Iranian politics, there is a threat of internal discontent for their so called President. This seems like a planned attempt to get the US to attack Iran so that the country unites against the US. You might say that is quite a stretch, but the Iranian president would like nothing more than to lead a war against the US being that is his only chance to save his reputation after he sank his country into such great inflation. I would ignore the most recent intellegence report…There is a mad man in Iran that is starting to have less and less to loose by doing something crazy.

GenB   January 9th, 2008 - 7:39 pm

I proudly consider myself to be a liberal/progressive. I understand the chain of command in the military, but it seems strange to me that 30+ minutes were required for these ships to start defending themselves when they apparently were in imminent danger of attack.

Call me Admiral Farragut, but If I’d been in the CIC of one of those ships, there would have been five little oil slicks in the Strait of Hormuz.

Seems that the IRG naval forces were testing the USN and that their dry run was unfortunately successful.

Santa   January 9th, 2008 - 8:00 pm

Cooler heads must prevail here. Let’s look at the facts:

1. The Gulf of Tonkin was a faked attack on a US ship in international waters. It had no film footage available.
2. GWB threatened Iran with WWIII if they did not stop pursuing a nuclear weapons programme.
3. The NIE report comes out and says that Iran suspended Nuclear Weapons development in 2003.
4. A concerted effort goes out to defame one of the authors of the NIE estimate as being biased against GWB which is unsuccessful in the court of public opinion, considering how many people in high places have to sign off on the NIE bfore it is released.
5. The complete video did not come out the same day the incident was reported.
6. With real-time editing on a laptop, there is still no reason for the delay in seeing the video with accompanying synchronised audio if it was authentic.
7. CGI is used every day in Hollywood to fake life-like events for big budget movies, but it takes time to render such video.

Considering the small amount of footage released that did not even cover all the events described in the report and with no audio, this may be a high tech Gulf of Tonkin-type faked incident. IF this was such a threat as the USS Cole, why did the Navy not defend itself against “impending doom” and destroy the boats? Why do the boats in the video not match the description of Iranian Revolutionary Guard patrol boats? Why were none of the deployed boxes retrieved by the US Navy to use as evidence of the incident?

Something seems very fishy with this incident and the US Government has squandered the post 9/11 good will of the people in believing everything it says.

tellahoohoo   January 9th, 2008 - 8:28 pm

I see no “mounted machine guns” or “bearing Iranian flags” on any of those boats.

And five?

Luke   January 9th, 2008 - 8:34 pm

This event has an eerie resemblance to the Gulf of Tonkin incident. Later on we found that we were duped into a war in Vietnam based on similar “tauntings” and BS reports that we were attacked, which later proved to be false.

Read history. This is just like it. They’re trying to do everything they can to get us into a war with Iran.

I know you all won’t agree, because you all feel that this is either a verbal slugfest, or an after hours Rush Limbaugh forum, but that’s the truth.

No one can deny that our government has lied to us to move forward with their agenda. This is the next step. Before you know it, we’ll have 80 unresolved conflicts around the world, and America will resort to calling it’s own people terrorists and launching “citizen check” campaigns.

Respect the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and all the amendments. Enjoy the constitution, instead of putting it in a paper shredder.

Eric   January 9th, 2008 - 9:26 pm

The part of the event that may have been faked is the supposed voice-over radio transmission that says “you will explode in a few minutes”. The Pentagon is now saying the radio transmission may have come from the shore, and not one of the boats. There are a number of intelligence agencies that want to see the US attack Iran. Israel and Saudia Arabia are among the countries. Parts of the US intelligence apparatus wants the attack to happen to (the neoconservatives are quite out of control). Signal intelligence operatives from any of those agencies could have broadcast the message just as Iranian boats were passing the US vessels. That is a very logical explanation, and it accounts for the fact that the Pentagon now admits the voice may have been transmitted from the shore, and it also accounts for the fact that there is no background boat engine noise behind the ‘voice’.

Tim   January 9th, 2008 - 9:35 pm

Look out guys, all of the Iranian Navy is coming after you! Blow your horn!

But seriously, these guys could be just a couple of speed boaters looking for trouble.
Did they catch them? Mounted Machine guns like the liberal media first said? Please think about it folks, if they wanted to ram those speed boats into those warships those boaters would have. Instead it looks like they were just pestering them.

Yes it’s a dangerous place and I commend the Navy for not causing WWIII by not blowing those ships out of the water. I despise, however, the politicians at home and the media that try to benefit from our brave heroes overseas.

If we DO end up going into Iran to invade them in retaliation at least let’s hope our congress follows the constitution and put it up to a vote unlike what was done in Iraq.

You cannot win a war without a goal, just retalliation, and the people’s voice. Let’s keep this in perspective, if Iranians did in fact attack our ships I as a Ron Paul supporter will be full in support of attacking Iran because it would be just retalliation.

However, Iraq did nothing to us but buy our weapons. The real criminals we should be going after are the Saudi Arabians.

Thomas — would you be calling us Lyndon B. I can just see idiots like you circa mid-1960’s throwing around the words “Johnson haters, and ‘conspiracy theorists’”, when in fact the government did indeed fake the event. You would be saying, “the sailors on that ship wouldn’t lie, so the attack must be true!!!” You’d scream that at the top of your lungs. And then, 40 YEARS later, you get to find out that you were WRONG! The US government DID FAKE THE Gulf of Tonkin EVENT!!!

We as merely another of Mother Earth’s species of animals are helpless without our brave and hard-taxing democRats working on our behalf to save us from ourselves. When it’s your turn to vote, don’t vote for America – vote for the Global Community, vote democRat and vote often!

I’m Hillary Hussein Obama bin Klinton and I approve this message.

Sick of It   January 9th, 2008 - 11:04 pm

I am contradicting my own thoughts as I write on this again, but the ignorant rants of what I can only assume are leftist liberals are infurriating. I agree that these comments should be taken with a grain of salt since we are all amateurs at best, but the lack of insight from some of these anti-Bush writters needs to be adressed. What about international waters don’t you understand, if anything its Iran that wants the war not the US, and most importantly neither Obama, Hillary or any othe democrat has what it takes to lead this country.

Rocky Mountain Man   January 9th, 2008 - 11:29 pm

1. How do they know they were Iranians? Did they identify themselves as Iranians?

How do they know they weren’t some drunk kids out for a joy ride in their oil sheik daddy’s boats?

2. Did they moon the ships? Now that would be funny. Reminded me of French castle scene in Monty Python And The Holy Grail (”I faht in your jjeneral directioooonnn!”) :-D

Daniel   January 9th, 2008 - 11:37 pm

You want to defend Iran? Move there. Then again, they’ll probably take over soon since most people seem to hate the country they live in because they have been miseducated / misinformed. You lefty’s are complete idiots.

Luke   January 9th, 2008 - 11:56 pm

I’m glad that the people that are supporting this war, bush, and think that we have the right to invade whoever we want – resort (in their infinite class and wisdom) to calling people that don’t agree with their view:

retards
inbred
idiots
morons
etc.

If you’re that close minded, you should really take a look at your position, the fact that you will defend Bush to your grave, and realize he doesn’t give a crap about you. Under Bush, anyone in the middle class has had to work harder for less money (thanks to the looting of our treasury to finance an illegal war), I’ve had personal friends come back from a war saying “why are we there?” – and worse yet, coming home missing limbs.

Let’s not repeat the same mistake, and spread ourselves out even thinner, by invading Iran. We have more loose ends on a strategic front than a Nevada brothel, and we don’t need to commit anymore for corporate interests. This isn’t about freedom in the middle east, because we’re breaking laws over there faster than American consultants can write them.

Knowing this administration, the invading force for this Iran conflict will be Mercenaries, financed by the taxpayer, that are above the law, and can kill anyone they please. Don’t say they don’t, because I know soldiers that have told me they have seen it happen, all while the jerks are making huge sums of money to do so.

I guess this comment means that I’m sole handedly responsible for the downfall of the USA. No, I guess we don’t need a reality check at all. Just keep shopping and listening to morons on the radio…

Deredeo   January 10th, 2008 - 12:07 am

to Santa (seriously??):
are you really that dc comics character ‘the question’ in disguise, ’cause your theories are just silly. there is perfect reason for the delay – as it was shot by a sworn sailor in the us navy, he is not just gonna run and post on you tube. second, there is plenty of chatter in the back round – i am sure he was seen recording and was ordered to turn over the ‘footage’ to be sure no secure information was inadvertently recorded.

the ease at which people say this was faked amazes me to no end. iran is a nation whose president has used violent, genocidal language in his speeches about his neighbors. why is it so easy to believe the iranian navy would not do something like this.

honestly, i bet it was just some knuckle heads acting silly for fun.
for those who think this was no big deal remember the uss cole – 17 lost their lives to that suicide attack. the ship used then was probably the same class seen in this incident. also, it does’nt take much to line up a shoulder fired missile, or rpg type weapon. no it would not sink a vessel of this size, but it could due damage and cause deaths. yes the ’speedboats’ would have been on the receiving end of 40mm high velocity cannon rounds and then some had such activity been spotted.

luckyinnc   January 10th, 2008 - 12:24 am

If it was my decision, I would have fired a few rounds over their heads just to get their attention. If they made any further move toward the ship, they would be toast. In that situation in that part of the country you can never assume anything. Toast em…end of story.

Thom   January 10th, 2008 - 12:36 am

A few facts for the fools on this Blog. As a former crewman of a US Navy warship 30 years ago the following is true and inescapable.

1) There are established navigation rules for passing through the Strait of Hormuz that all parties have agreed to. The US Navy ships complied with those rules, the unknown speed boats did not. There are also established Rules of Engagement for our side, those were followed to the letter. Next time, the rules will be different.
2) To the Captain and crew of those ships who is in control of those boats, where they came from and what they may be carrying are all irrelevant. The safety of the ship and crew is what matters. The Iranians did not say the incident did not happen BTW. This isn’t the first time the Iranians have violated international law in this area or committed aggression against Allied naval forces in the Gulf. How many times in the last year have Iranians committed such acts against British and American forces? Three that have been reported. The Iranian Navy would be gone in an hour if we wanted it. This not a game.
3) Contrary to the comments of some, those blobs were not far away and were shown just off the prop wash of the trailing Frigate several times. From that distance to the side of the ship is a few seconds. A 50+ knot speed boat loaded with a 1000 lb warhead (4 over fed liberal college students in weight) will have the same impact as a Tomahawk cruise missile. The warhead in the Cole attack was half or less that size.
4) If you conduct similar maneuvers in US waters in your private speedboat against same warships you will be arrested, fined and probably locked away for some time. If you close on said warship at high speed and ignore all warnings (visual, audio, etc) you will be fired upon at some point. Don’t believe me? Try it.
5) The Captain of this US force showed exceptional restraint. That comes from a disciplined mind not one filled with a void between the ears as many of the fools on this Blog have. The next such act by such unknown blobs or alike will result in debris in the water and loss of life. There are a thousand people on those three ships who say it happened. They don’t pay them enough to lie about something this dangerous.
6) Name calling doesn’t win wars. Fools resort to name calling when they can’t win with rational thought. The people serving on those ships would respectfully beat you to within an inch of your life for the shear idiots you represent. You need to back off the “dope” and go live in one of these fun filled places you have so much admiration for. The first thing the Iranians would do with most of you is strap a bomb to your chest, put you in a nice speed boat and tell you to go out and mess with the US Navy or they would kill you after having you watch them kill every person you ever cared about. This stuff is for real and it does happen little boys and girls every day.
7) One Gulf of Tonkin does not make the rest of the world’s events one large US conspiracy theory from then on.

Bob   January 10th, 2008 - 12:54 am

You can’t be serious? Do you think this is faked? First off this is an amateur video taken by a sailor on the bridge, second off this happened in the Strait of Hormuz, if you bothered to pay attention in geogrpahy class and knew anything you’d realize you have to follow strict guidlines while transiting in and out, that is why you saw the second US ship behind the first US ship (the one taking the video) There is hardly any maneurvering (spell) ability because you have really really big tankers also transiting, look at a map and you can see we are talking about a narrow body of water. You saw a snippet of what occurred. To be honest the crews showed great restraint in NOT firing, no skipper wants to have a USS Cole happen to them. So wake up and pick a side and stop complaining this is real and your “perfect” little world won’t last until you take a stand.

Newseditor   January 10th, 2008 - 12:55 am

Very good comments Thom and right on the nose. Personally, I have to blame our Navy for one little thing: They should have blown those speed boats out of the water. Did they forget what happened to the USS Cole? As my Uncle used to say, who was on the USS Nelson during WWII: Sometimes shooting first and asking questions later is a good policy if you want to stay alive.

Newseditor   January 10th, 2008 - 1:05 am

I own the U.S. Navy an apology. I just read from another news source that the reason why the Iranian speed boats retreated was because the Navy was about to open fire. The article that I read early did not mention this important note. To the men and women of the U.S. Navy, I apologize for my earlier statements about not blowing up the speed boats or forgetting what happened to the USS Cole.

Tonkin was at night and our radar was not what it is today. Perhaps they shot at ghosts that night. My father-in-law flew missions in laos (we were not fighting in that neutral country)spotting NVC (not there either) supply lines. Since it was a secret CIA mission, they were never given the credit due to them. They lost more pilots than any other branch. (bat21 with gene hackman) Talk alot about things we are not 100% sure of yet the conspiracy lives on.

Iran was smart enough to stay outside the wake but dumb enough to joyride that close. We should have taken them out since it was international waters. What is not being said and that Iran denied the claims makes it all more real and true. Wonder what the boxes were and what was in them. I am sure they just threw empty boxes to freak out the captain. Anyone who really thinks this was a set up is a Moron

SoCal Patriot   January 10th, 2008 - 1:52 pm

“Wow, what menacing little speedboats in international waters, where anyone can pretty much do what they like, since it’S international waters, not american.”
You think that because boats are in international waters that they can get a s close to Navy ships as they want without repercussions? Thank you for proving that you’re an idiot.

t.e.demalet”
“And some sailor just happened to be on deck with a video camera? And distributing footage of an international incident is OK without approval from superior officers? Hey, thanks for the laugh!”
Look at the title of this thread, idiot. The Pentagon released the footage, not some sailor, on his own. You must be related to that inbred retard G00ns.

“So my man SoCal Patriot, and what were you doing in “Nam during the Carter administration?”

You’re not even smart for a retard. *I* didn’t make that post, it was made by another retard, trying to fool other retards, like you. He even admitted it, later, moron: “I actually didn’t watch the entire video, but I saw multiple posts (not yours, technically) calling people inbreds. I assumed these were all yours, but as of current, I have realized they are not. My apologies.

By the way, I actually am a kid. I just needed something to occupy me.”

Ron “the racist” Paul Exposed:

http://pajamasmedia.com/2008/01/ron_paul.php
“A damning New Republic expose on Ron Paul shows the “libertarian” Republican candidate to be a racist, a homophobe and an anti-Semite. Will his diehard supporters continue to defend a man who called Martin Luther King a gay pedophile? Daniel Koffler, a former Paul sympathizer, has a compendium of the Texas congressman’s creepiest hits, pulled straight from his decades-old newsletter.

[Read “Ron Paul Statement on The New Republic Article Regarding Old Newsletters” @ Ron Paul campaign’s website]

by Daniel Koffler

James Kirchick of the New Republic has a devastating piece on Rep.

It makes him unelectable and the polls agree:

Daily National Republican Presidential Nomination Poll:
Huckabee 22%
John McCain 19%
Mitt Romney 19%
Fred Thompson 12%
Rudy Giuliani at 9%
Ron Paul attracts 3% support

3%, for good reasons…

Newseditor   January 10th, 2008 - 5:17 pm

Nemo, do you really honestly believe you? Do you know what happened to the USS Cole back in 2000? The Destroyer class ship was attacked and damaged by suicide bombers using a small inflatable boat. The attack killed 17 sailors.

A small inflatable boat. Certainly nothing compared to the three speedboats and look at the damage that inflatable boat did.

Andrew   January 10th, 2008 - 7:15 pm

Eric, I think i saw you post on another website denying this story and saying that a video would never actually come to light. Well, it did, and you still doubt it. MAYBE THE BOXES SANK.

Rocky Mountain Man   January 10th, 2008 - 7:20 pm

Next time, try not to believe everything you read.

Those comments written in Ron Paul’s newsletter – 30 years ago – were not written by him, but by an employee who was promptly fired.

Here is what Kirchick has to say about himself, from an e-mail he sent:

“I don’t think Ron Paul is a homophobe; I’m just cynical and enjoy getting supporters of political candidates riled up. If you were a Giuliani guy I’d have called him a fascist.”

Ron Paul’s position (from here: http://www.reason.com/blog/show/124281.html )

reason: Do you have any response to The New Republic’s article about your newsletters?

Ron Paul: All it is–it’s old stuff. It’s all been rehashed. It’s all political stuff.

reason: Why don’t you release all the old letters?

Paul: I don’t even have copies of them, because it’s ancient history.

reason: Do you stand by what appears in the letters? Did you write these…?

Paul: No. I’ve discussed all of that in the past. It’s just old news.

reason: Did the New Republic talk to you before they ran it?

Paul: No, I never talked to them.

reason: What do you think of Martin Luther King?

Paul: Martin Luther King is one of my heroes because he believed in nonviolence and that’s a libertarian principle. Rosa Parks is the same way. Gandhi, I admire. Because they’re willing to take on the government, they were willing to take on bad laws. So I believe in civil disobedience if you understand the consequences. Martin Luther King was a great person because he did that and he changed America for the better because of that.

reason: You didn’t write the derogatory things about him in the letter?

Paul: No.

This new evidence from the spokeperson of the US 5th Fleet is striking, and extremely important. Now we are told that the US 5th Fleet vessels can not even tell were the voices came from that said, “We are coming to you, you will explode in a few minutes….

http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=4115702&page=1

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a ‘False Flag’ event. If the Navy doesn’t know where the voices are coming from, then something truly strange occured. Also, it is important to note, that the voices were spoken in English, so to say this had to be Iranians, instead of anyone group of terrorists to include pirates or any nation state from just looking at bright blue boats is amazing.

The Navy said, maybe the voices came from shore, if so then the three US vessels were in Iranian controlled waters, if they were that close to shore, where audio can be projected out that far.

The Navy say it may have come from another ship nearby, what ship? another odd question. At first they detail five speed boats, and now maybe a sixth unidentified ship, what?

Something very strange occured, and even the Navy can’t explain it, it seems to me that a false flag was designed, but now the question is, where did the voices come from, a rogue sub, a UAV, what?
heres the story

“This new evidence…”

You are still an idiot. That’s not new news and it doesn’t matter either way, they’ve said that from the beginning. I even posted a link to it, retard.

However, U.S. military officials, including Cosgriff, said they have not been able to definitively connect the radio call with one of the Revolutionary Guards boats.

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20080108/D8U1UNM80.html

(dated 2 days ago…)
“The ships were close enough to shore that the call could have come from a shore station, it could have come from another boat,” said Cdr. Lydia Robertson, the 5th Fleet spokeswoman. “But the call did happen while the small boats were there.”

Pull your head out, you POS…

Tim John   January 12th, 2008 - 6:46 am

The Navy said that in December they fired warning shots at Iranian vessels. That sounds more like it.

SoCal Patriot   January 12th, 2008 - 9:45 am

“The Navy said that in December they fired warning shots at Iranian vessels.”

What does December have to do with this incident other than showing a patter of Iranian instigation and provocative behavior? If they try it again, they should be destroyed.
