Just FYI, the theory behind hate crime laws is that it goes after terrorism against certain segments of the community. That is, she wasn’t picked out at random to rape & rob, but that she was specifically targeted as a message to all lesbians. Had she been heterosexual and raped while being mocked for being black, white, Christian, Wiccan, etc, then technically that would be a hate crime, too. (Not sure how it works out like with those Muslim gang rapists in Australia that specifically targeted teens wearing “too skimpy” clothes to rape as punishment.)
